I can remember listening to the radio on New Year's Day while playing something on the Atari waiting on the family coming over. What a magical day.

Remember falling a sleep during this Dundee Utd game and missing a goal. Was only 11 at the time and season ticket was in the back row of the Govan Stand. No1 fanzine had some entertaining mockery of Golač. NYD OF was magic though, really putting those cretins in their place

Interesting to hear the guys talking about the Celtic Minded journalists 30 years ago. A stark reminder it's been going on that long. And even longer .. ....

Me too. I was at my granny’s in Bishopbriggs for the family New Year’s Day get together and listened upstairs out the way. Nobody would believe me when I ran downstairs for the third time before half an hour had been played. Great day indeed!

I remember that Motherwell match, where they could have gotten within a point. And I still remember not worrying that even if they did they wouldn’t last the pace. Strange times to be so, well, complacent really I guess. But I do always remember, and agree about the difference made being well overlooked, Durie’s signing and that match at Fir Park. He was almost the archetypal Ranger being largely energy, guile and probably still one of the most direct players I remember playing for us. He got the ball, looked up and headed for goal regardless of where he was on the pitch, either with the ball or sending it out wide before charging straight through the middle anticipating a return pass or cross. And as much as he was the “Christmas present” he was exceptional value over his time at Ibrox.

I think it was around now that Jim Kerr came out at a press conference slagging Kelly and asking why his consortium wasn’t being entertained by saying “what are we, the Great Unwashed?” Yes, Jim, yes you are!

The new year game was the last ever in front of the traditional Rangers end.Was a great day all round and seeing them fighting each other all over the ground was a joy!

Martin Davies

My first match at Parkhead that 4-2 game. What a day!

Paul Dunnachie

Hungover and with no ticket, I opted for my bed rather than Parkhead 🤦🏻‍♂️ It was glorious listening to the commentary though and I think I had the phone-in recorded.. seems to has disappeared over the years though. That McGlone quote about Masons infiltrating Celtic via a sure issue 🤣🤣 If a single statement can sum up their outlook on life that is it.

Just catching up on this podcast. Literally know that commentary on the New Year game word for word. Sensational.
