£39 a ticket in the europa league whilst bringing in less money than the champions league pays. Going by that logic the tickets in CL should be cheaper (i know it wouldn’t happen) as it pays the club way more than the europa……..or is it just me?

Grant Hoskin

I think that's a very fair point Ian - similar to how many German clubs will charge a relatively small amount for their season ticket because they get so much from TV. I suppose the club's argument will be that the standard is higher so if we want to compete, we have to spend the money we earn.

Christina Herriot

Whether I go or not. Rangers are going to take £180 from my account as I'm on the CCS. So to say 'Well you don't have to go' makes no difference. There is an element of trust being on the CCS that the club won't shaft us with ticket prices

Ross Whitehead

The pricing strategy is odd. It seems to be punishing loyal fans who travel in their thousands all over Scotland and further afield in Europe (folk will be paying off that trip to Seville for ages). The club know that it's the first season back in UCL so everyone will be dying to get a ticket, so if some fans to pay others will be desperate to, but that can't go on forever, the novelty will wear off soon enough. One thing that crossed my mind is this: are the prices so high because the club hierarchy reckon we will probably finish 4th in this group so they have to make money while they can?

Martin Davies

David, Colin - great show. The big advantage of professional referees is that you remove significant external pressures from these guys. They are trying to hold down a day job and get stress from constantly having to ask for time off, finish early, etc. as well as having those day job thoughts still running through your head when trying to focus on the game. A decent full time salary might also encourage youngsters who aren't going to make the grade at playing football and maybe dont have a lot of qualifications to fall back on to take up refereeing, stay in the game and use their experience of playing to make better decisions. BTW, I hate the "Tony" stuff. It's like a nickname the other lot would use for a foreign player 🤬

Stephen

This is true about the referees. I can’t imagine if you are working full time as a lawyer, or a policeman etc you have too much time even to think about the match you are refereeing at the weekend. I watch my son playing football on a Sunday and there are plenty of referees in their late teens/early 20’s. I don’t get the argument that the current referees would probably earn more in their real job than to be a professional official. Just employ people who want to be full time referees. Part time clearly hasn’t worked properly for decades.

Stuart Melvin

I think the idea you said about cutting the prices for this is a brilliant one, although wont hold my breath for it in the future. Seems modern football has adopted the American "Customers not fans" model now intent on raising as much capital as possible.

Martin Davies

Stephen, its not even just focusing on the weekend game. It's leaving work early for a Wed night game in Aberdeen, looking at your watch as an afternoon meeting runs on longer than planned or taking work calls on the way up. Or asking for unpaid time off to referee European games or take mandatory training. It takes a very flexible employer.

Heart and Hand

Also, it’s a hobby for them. No matter how much they put into it, it’s not their full-time priority. So we have our flagship football refereed by guys doing it in their spare time. That can’t be right.

Inflation also effects the club - it will effect all aspects of our lifes - can the club afford to go cheaper ? High Inflation should put a shiver down our spines..football ticket prices will be the least of our worries I fear ! It's not just household bills are going up..business as well .. we are a business I've said this in previous comments - it's no surprise we are paying this amount at this time of year - we knew we would be playing 6 x El/ CL games .we've being paying for this the past 4 years. . I'd suggest to all Rangers fans - expect to be paying around £150 for a 3 match package around this time every year for the foreseeable. .. long may it continue. This should not come as a surprise to anyone . I do think this is the absolute max we should be paying - I think the teams we got in our group allowed this ... I don't think they could have charged this for Celtcs group for example.

David Harrison

As a Scotsman living in America, I don’t see what the fuss is over 50 quid for a ticket. That’ll get you a seat up where you need binoculars to see any action at a US sporting event, especially one which would be as appealing as the champions league.

Gregg Wood

David, it would be good if you could get someone from the Club on to talk about it and explain their reasoning behind it. You were able to get James Bisgrove on when they were under fire for the Sydney friendly debacle. Can you not reach out to him and ask him to come on?

CRAIG CASSELLS

I think the prices are way over the top but you make a good point that it may be with a view that we will have no Euro football post Christmas as even finishing 3rd is no guarantee. Those 4 wonderful knockout Ibrox ties of last season might not be repeated this season so the thinking is get as much as we can in the 3 games we do have.

CRAIG CASSELLS

I get your point but take away Rangers and Celtic is there enough money in Scottish football to have 10 or 12 full time referees. Not sure if still the case but in the past our refs were all professional types; lawyers, doctors, etc where the fee paid to ref a game was probably not an issue to them. What salary do we pay our refs to entice them to make it a full time career? Referees earning more than many players is not a particularly good look - £2000 per week is probably more than a good number of players in our top division earn.

CRAIG CASSELLS

I have never ever attended a Rangers game to see the opposition. I genuinely don't give a damn who we are playing, I go too watch my team Rangers whether it be Queen of the South or Liverpool.

Heart and Hand

Bit pointless unfortunately Gregg. The explanation is 'we want to make as much money as possible'. It's really that simple.

G Calder

Not sure I'd expect to pay the same to see us play QOTS as I would Liverpool in the champions league ..

Martin Davies

Craig, the refs won't be far off £2k per week but it's based on a per game basis. Make it salaried with bonuses and the cost isn't hugely different but it's guaranteed income which is surely more attractive to people.

George Harrison

Any idea how much Liverpool, Ajax and Napoli are charging ?

Fergie

Totally agree with you on the pricing David. Many will reluctantly pay it but if we can replicate those big nights of last season then it will temper any anger. If we struggle badly in the group, which is a real possibility, the ill feeling could become toxic.
