Basseys Nigerian so don't think he'll have his eyes on an England callup

Neil

Next two games will be a draw.

Irrespective of the Old Firm result I had some fear going into this CL group that the level would too high to compete in a meaningful way. Let's see how it goes... With some good luck a 3rd place is surely an achievable goal. I know Alex wasn't on the preview this week but I'm sure people with a similar mindset would say things along these lines (not intending to put words in his mouth here). 1. Celtic are a good team in good form, 2. It's normal to drop points in a title race. 3. Each team, in a stable era, should be hitting around 5 titles per decade. The points about the players not taking the managers input on board are valid and concerning, but I think commitment to the process under Gio needs to be persevered with. The reality is a better manager might still lose, because they're in a good rhythm at the moment. They're beatable, of course they are, but too many people still think that it was a case of 55, they'd be back in their place and we'd be entitled to dominance. Who knows? Maybe they're in their Advocaat era (post 9iar) and next season it goes haywire.

Whats going on with Ben Davvis? Also need to get Morelos fit

Big Shirley is a Nigerian international.

Spot on Kevin the league is the be all and end all nothing else matters but unfortunately I can't see it . The players don't seem to have it in them and they seem to be back to where we were when they see Celtic line up against them .

That's the big problem Steven there are players in our team who need dropped but we've not got people in their positions ala Kent

Scott Watson

"The old prawn cracker wrist" "Seeing Elvis in the toast" Nobody summarizes quite like Steven 😂 Kev, quite right to point out that you called it. You absolutely did. Just a tiny wee nit-pick, the points total since Gio took over would put us 13 behind - not 19. Still brutal. 9 of those are from old firm losses. There's been lots of chat about our problem being not putting the bins away - but on that reading, it's the old firms we need to sort out ASAP if we're going to mount a serious title challenge Maybe the most troubling aspect of all of this is what Steven said about the message not getting through. Many of us will have seen the clip on social media where Gio is pointing at O'Riley before he takes the quick free kick and then raging when nobody does anything about it. It seems obvious from that and his post-match comments that Gio was alive to the danger and the players weren't. That really is a massive alarm bell - it's hard to avoid concluding that either Gio isn't able to communicate his message, or the players can't get themselves into a mentality to receive and implement instructions or both. Huge questions to answer all round and the pressure will grow with every game This team do tend to come up with a big reaction to setbacks, I think we might come back from the Dam with a 1-1 but it wouldn't surprise me if we lose a late goal and we're still all in a bit of a sour mood even on the back of what would be a great result

Last preview - ranting that club is trying to bring in more money. This preview - ranting that the team isn’t good enough. Can’t have cake and eat it….

John Smith

In terms of a replacement for Gio, what about Neil Warnock ?

James Curran

The FFP rules do have a huge bearing on how we operate in the transfer market. I agree it’s important that we remove high earners that aren’t contributing to the first team. This would give us more scope to spend and recycle the wages for higher level players. Motondo though is being well and truly written off. I think he still needs time before we consign him to the bin. We’ve seen flashes of what he can be in some not all matches.

QB_72

Wouldn't say you were being negative lads as the truth is sometimes a bitter pill to swallow. The FFP is a major part of the problem with recruitment right now and we are being held back by it due to high earning players still on the books who are injured or injury prone and we can't shift on. There is light at the end of the tunnel but very dimly lit for now. Get a draw away and win at home was always the way forward in the UCL. Achieving that in this group isn't an impossibility but it's gonna be tough. Need to get the European spirit back tomorrow and hopefully kick on from there. We've been in worse situations and came through it. Ajax 1-2 Rangers Aberdeen 0-3 Rangers We keep Jon in goals or we will kill the goalkeeping situation Shagger was given his time and made errors which cost us, big Jon's problem is it was at the piggery but he wasn't solely to blame for that Deja vu performance 🇬🇧

John Smith

I know it sounds a bit mental but he’s a massive Rangers fan and he would have that warrior mentality

Kev Armstrong

It’s how you spend money. We can’t have £100k per week worth of talent not playing.

John Davidson

Wow, that was utterly miserable. No wonder Strider faked a hammy 🤣

Bradley johnson

No sorry i agree, I meant more in terms of players weve got injured currently on good money

Spoon

Have to say the hot take on Colak from Kev is about as far off the mark as you can be. Blaming a guy who scores goals when he gets service for a game he got absolutely none and even less support from another team mate is mind boggling. The guy has almost a goal a game record currently and some of them are in Europe. Giving the big man jip when your praising Alfie who can’t be arsed getting fit or growing up is a bit off. I will however agree 100% on his comment around getting younger players involved, we always leave it far far too late to get kids involved and we continue to call Scottish 20 year olds kids who needs protected while we happily go and sign 19 year old foreign players for the first team. Play them early or it’s a waste of time. Great pod and though I never thought I would say it….I missed some positivity from Alex!

David Innes

Sadly I agree with Kev and Steven’s predictions. I keep hearing people say they’re confident we’ll get a result because we’re a different team in Europe but Saturday was the type of result that leaves mental scarring. We’re overdue a cuffing in Europe and I think it will come tomorrow night.

Graeme Price

I think what he means by Colak is we can't have a guy waiting up top for the ball in these games, effectively we're ten men. Need an Alfie or even Roofe to come into midfield and hold up the ball while Kent and Barisic work the left by line. It's too easy to press this kind of midfield back without it. Before the game I made a comment on chat that this is two champions league teams battling it out and was roundly (and fairly) mocked but it speaks to mentality. They're the same kind of opposition we dominate home and away in Europe, but the team sees them as the best of the dross that is Scottish football. Just something to get past and collect points. Don't know how to change that but if we looked at them as an upper level European team albeit on the back of our league fortune, maybe we can raise our game. I think they've got it in their heads about Scottish refs, so it becomes almost schoolboy or amateur complaints which you can't allow for a second at this level. Noone's applying the dark arts, getting them riled up and slowing play enough. I think Ange has made that by design, no battling just skill and pace. He's also showing the rest of Scotland how to beat us. Am terrified about the next month and I'd rather we just sit in and get scrappy wins until November to get confidence and injured players back. I don't think our manager will agree.

Chris Lamont

I'm getting a 5:45 kick-off, is it 7:45?

David Carslaw

Just to chip in on the goalkeeper chat. We've had McGlaughlin throughout what is the traditional prime for a goalkeeper. In all that time he's been happy to play second fiddle. That tells you he doesn't have the character or attitude to be a number 1 for Rangers. I wouldn't blame him entirely for the weekend's disaster, but I was saying all last season that we should have been trying to find a quality number 1 and that should have been our priority signing in the summer. For the sake of McGregor's legendary status he should not have been re-signed either. He's only going to tarnish that reputation from now on.

Frank

1945 kick off against Nigerian international Bassey who hopes get a cap for England? Mon you

Tamus

5.45pm ko? Or 7.45pm?

Angus Mackay

I agree with a lot of what Steven says on this episode (as I often do). Three other things have frustrated me with the hail of criticism since the weekend: 1. We need to recognise that while we may be competing with Celtic again and back in the CL, we're still punching up and rebuilding. They started off from a position of massive financial advantage; we're catching up, but we're not there yet. 2. We need to also recognise (especially in the light of the above) that the player trading model at our present stage will create dips when well developed assets are moved out and raw replacements are brought in. As we - hopefully - make our way back up again and increase the quality of our buys, the dips should hopefully be less obvious. 3. As much as I want to win the league too, our whole model is now predicated on a measure of European success. That is the only way for us to succeed as a club in the current climate, therefore ditching a manager who is massively overachieving in Europe is shooting ourselves in the foot. We need to try and exercise some patience. Thanks for a great show, guys, always appreciated.

Angus Mackay

I also believe that the guys that we've brought in (especially Yilmaz and and Tillman have a higher ceiling that the players that Celtic have invested in. Most of their buys seem very much jam today as far as I can see.
