By the time of the Rangers AGM in November 1994, the Week from Hell appeared to be a distant memory for most. Rangers were top of the league, Celtic were still a comedy act and the manager and board could point to a genius. Any lingering doubt about the younger Laudrup brother had disappeared. He was now firmly a Rangers god.

Stevens was never properly replaced until Porrini.

Gary Shaw

Talking about Laudrup got me all warm inside 😂….for me the greatest ever Ranger is Super Ally,my own personal favourite ever player is Albertz but Laudrup has to be,ability wise the best player I’ve ever seen in a blue jersey….The first time I remember the “We’re not worthy” was against them at Hampden in that 3-1 game when he was being subbed off….

I wanted Smith gone the previous season hated the only focus being best of Scotland , didn’t see why we couldn’t have been best and done something in Europe. I perhaps put the focus solely on Smith when it was the club itself which needed modernisation.

Martyn Ramsay

As much as I liked Porrini, I’m not sure even he replaced what Stevens gave us. He was a converted centre half at Juve. A fine job he did but in terms of consistent output, it’s probably a gap between Stevens and Tav.

Martyn Ramsay

Perhaps common for any organisation having gone through a process of modernisation to think that it’s now complete, ignoring that pace of further change around it. Complacency hits us all eventually

Lee Colvin

A fantastic day at Hampden which was rounded off with our section singing super Lou Macari.

John Johnston

It was great travelling back home on the ferry back to Belfast that night on a boat full of tims.

Willie Duncan

When you watch the 9 in a row boxset, the jump in quality that came with Laudrup is jaw dropping. We went from a solid strong unit that ground teams down to having an absolute flying machine that had skill and ability. He was miles above anything else in our game at the time

Am I right in saying that Motherwell offered Rangers fans season tickets for there new stand for the 2 league games

Another great episode Martyn, along with Alan & David. Just adoring this series. Thank you lads. 🤔 I recall something about the lilac kit being introduced as a 'European' kit because our away kit did not comply with rules due to the huge crest on the front. As always I'm really looking forward to the next episode (and another listen to this one until then 🙂👍)

Alan Bradley

I remember this John. not sure if it was just for 2 years They offered debentures to Old Firm fans for that stand, think it was £20 and several hundred Rangers fans bought them. My Bad - at the lilac defeat. I was in the main stand with my brother in law and several Motherwell fans. That’ll teach me. 😞

It's been a strange position for us, left back too. We seem to convert players to play full back a lot rather than buying specialists. Glad we seem to be bucking that trend now.

It was the first kit I was allowed as a kid! My Mum seemed to think I would get murdered in Johnstone for being a Rangers fan owning the home top. Wasn't until the NTL sponsored Nike top in wee Dick's second year that I had a home top, until then it was always away.

Callum Dinnen

Yeah right back has been a problem position throughout my time supporting Rangers. I started going to games in 1993/94 and right back was always the problem position in my all time XI as up to Tav nobody really nailed down the position for any real length of time. Hutton's 2007 was probably the peak in terms of performance up until Tav's last couple of seasons, but the position was also filled for years with dross like Cleland, Ricksen (who was an awful right back) and Broadfoot. I actually quite liked Whittaker but he never fully nailed down the position under Smith for whatever reason.

I often wonder what type of player Laudrup would have been in the modern "low block" days. He'd still have been top drawer but maybe not in the way he was. Often remember him waltzing through teams in 1 on 1's and laying it on a plate for someone. Teams would never have allowed that level of space these days...

Well, a lot to unpack again! I’ll caveat by saying a lot of what’s gone before on this show has disabused me that I have an excellent memory for all things Rangers… However, I do have a recollection of Ferguson and Durrant heading to Goodison coming as a huge shock perhaps on the morning of the game? The chat was definitely (refer to caveat) talk of indiscipline by the two players and Smith having enough. I think there was also chat of this being a show of power that ok Goram didn’t go in the end but any of you can and at any time. I was sad about Durrant but not so much Ferguson; in fact I only really warmed to Duncan a few years later (terrorising the Man Utd defence at Old Trafford helped!), but even then I didn’t look at his leaving as a missed opportunity for us. I guess just down to that lack of fit. In terms of the 9, I was firmly in the bigger picture camp. I was born a few months after their 9th so it had no meaning to me from that perspective. The history I looked back at in books and magazines was Rangers’ successes in the 70s, back to back titles, 2 trebles in 3 years, ECWC, et al. Laudrup. Well, I don’t think anyone will change my mind that he’s the best player to ever wear the shirt. Not the “Greatest”, but without doubt the best. His technical ability and agility allied with pace and power really was something I hadn’t previously seen and I hadn’t thought about that goal v Dundee Utd being new, different (small, yellow; to continue the theme!!), an excellent observation. Agreed about the deflection by O’Neil spoiling that goal, though I always look at it and think it close to a full clearance & maybe a bit lucky it ended up in the goal- there’s a sliding door, though I think Laudrup would have the cojones to get over missing a chance like that. I was pleased we started winning any games though; I’d been offered and accepted a season ticket just after the season started. First 3 games were the Week From Hell 😳😳

Gary Shaw

Good point Campbell…I think about that aswell…take yourself back to the first game of that season when we are playing Motherwell at Ibrox,it’s 1-1 with 2 minutes to go and Motherwell are down to 10 men…they get a corner and actually cross it,looking for a winner rather than hold it in the corner and from our clearance Laudrup races away to set up Ferguson for the winning goal

Billy Boyce

The AGM that year that was mentioned. Was that the year a guy stood up and stated he was worried about our financial position? I remember cos I was sitting next to him. If it was, I remember Finlay pretty much laughing him out the door, and Murray poo pooing him as well. Yet we all know who was right in the long term

Nick Cowling

Niche trivia… Rangers played Hibs 4 times in season 1994/95. Rangers had a different goalkeeper for each of the four matches. Name the four goalkeepers. (For a bonus point, get them in the right order, from the first match to the last)

Martyn Ramsay

I’m slightly guessing at the order of the middle two here but Andy Goram, Colin Scott, Ally Maxwell and Billy Thompson

Nick Cowling

The team line up in the 1-1 game was, shall we say, not the most brimming with creative invention… Maxwell Moore Bollan Gough McLaren Boil Steven Murray Durie McCall Brown
