Top Tune lads. Just wish some of our players would believe in themselves at this level. Its one thing being overun but to not to be able to pass it 10 yards is just a nonsense. Tav and Lundstrum were shocking tonight. Werent positive enough. Even though Davies and King gave away the fouls for their set piece goals I thought they were very good. Goldson was good. McGregor was, well McGregor. Which is outstanding. We need to go all out for the win next week, nothing else for it.

Scott Tolmie

Formation is brutal, midf does not work, far too much respect given, standing 5 yards off players at the level is madness

JM

Awful display , poor tactics, no fight and the team never believed we could compete. A glorified training game - poor entertainment.

KAD87

Loads of positives… King was good Davies didn’t look uncomfortable Goldsons form has improved McGregor is still class Matondo may be an option on the left…

Gordon Millar

Gerrard built a team that restored our place and beyond in Europe, this was achieved through aggression, great organisation, hunting in packs and the ability to transition into attack at speed.....this team lacks these qualities and any belief in the process in my opinion. Investment is part of it, but belief and work rate has dropped off a cliff.

William

I agree with Hoggy on us being rabbits in the headlights however, Why should a team which only a few months ago reached a European final be rabbits in headlights For me Gio is morphing into Pedro. Kent for me should not wear a Rangers jersey again, he doesn't want to be here. That said, I do feel we can win next week, if we play to our strengths, with the strength of the fans behind the team

Pedro

Away to Celtic and two in the CL and only utter embarrassment from our players and management. I can't focus on any positive tbh. We'll continue to embarrass ourselves with this set up.

Stephen A

Malik Tillman isn't a RW Matondo isn't a RW Stop ruining players by playing them out of position.

William Hughes

Hard work no matter the quality of the opposition is a must. Our work rate in comparison to last seasons European displays is very noticeable.

james whyte

Exactly this. Play Kent on the Right, Matondo on the Left, Tillman behind the striker as a ten. Kent might feel refreshed on the other side of the pitch and crack on.

David Simpson

Liverpool off to Highbury at the weekend Hoggy? Let's hope they turn up at Hampden on Wednesday 😀

Alan Weir

If Tillman could add pace, application and hard work to his undoubted natural talent he’d be a terrific player. He also wouldn’t be playing for Rangers. Big teams like Bayern and Liverpool can afford to buy the “full package” players. We have to accept flawed talents, I’m afraid.

T5

Good pod and a great help on the journey back down South after the game!

Stephen Grant

Tillman isn’t good enough , not fight in the boy

Graeme Price

This was a run out with focus on defence and damage limitation so that if results come together we can still be in a goal difference situation with Ajax. I called Sakala being a sub about ten minutes before because he needed someone to occupy them to give our backs a rest. Plus they wouldn't have planned on it. As far as energy, what do you expect with the run of games? The discussion is still about Ajax and we can enjoy next week at Ibrox giving it a shot against a Liverpool team that might be a little more depleted. A draw in the next two gives us hope while playing Ajax at home. Literally could end up being a cup final type game.

Doug Young

Hard work put in from CBs and Borna didn't do bad considering he had Salah at him all game. Other than that. Tav was awful, Kent a waste, Davis and Lundstram full rabbits. Tilman just doesn't look like he's bothered- I agree with Hoggy. Alfie ran his socks off- no support. Liverpool are levels above us, it's clear and were a side with fire in their bellies after criticism. We just look pedestrian. Again. Oh for a KT or a BF in that side.

Stewart Thomson

If we're gonna play 5 at the back and be pinned in then we need pace around Alfie to support him...unfortunately Tillman has none of that and Kent for whatever reason is just not up to it at the minute. Sakala and Matondo did reasonably well when they came on, caused a little bit of trouble by their directness and pace. I hope another lesson learned. But if anyone was expecting to go to anfield and go toe to toe with them, they haven't been paying attention

KAD87

He’s a young lad who hasn’t faced this before - we can’t be saying he’s not good enough….

Ross Whitehead

Well said Cammy. We are at the start of a UCL journey. We will improve and grow, but I think the change in UCL format to the swiss model (or whatever it is called) is going to make things harder again for us smaller clubs in the competition.

William

A team that went to Dortmund and won convincingly, is now a team scared and devoid of ideas. We have regressed so much under this manager

Nikky Cairney

Can’t agree with Hoggy saying Morelos has a pretty good game. He held the ball up once all night. If Colak had played like he had tonight his hold up play would’ve been scrutinised. And I understand it’s tough against two quality centre halves with no support. That’s fine. But he never had a pretty good game. And I heard a most players criticised bar one. Golden boy Steven Davis. He cannot play in games this size anymore. He doesn’t have the legs. Not all his fault. He shouldn’t be here in all honesty but we are where we are. Thought king and Davies done fine. Goldson was very good. 3 centre halves that had players running at them from everywhere because Lundstram and Davies were hopeless. Caught between pressing and sitting deep.

Simon Botterill

We are simply not aggressive/intense/up for it. We can't compete technically with the likes Liverpool but the lack of application on the basics of the wider game is depressing the fans.

Barry Kerr

Couldn't agree more with Cammy and Hoggy at the end both them are absolutely spot on

Gary Brown

Thanks for post match analysis Colin, Cammy & Hoggy.

Dingus

Find it bizarre when discussing slack passing and poor performances on the night, that Steven Davis is overlooked. For me Lundstram at least put himself about but SD contributed nothing.

Mark

Other than score a header off a GK error, Tillman has done nothing to show he has the chops to play for Ranger. Lazy and stupid are two 9f the worst attributes for a footballer.

David Scott

Gio needs to stop playing Tillman in big games he bottles it and does not have the required work rate to keep another player out the team, We are too passive lacking confidence and look out of our depth at this level. We have regressed massivley since last season and have a weaker sqaud.

Donald Mackay

We are a Europa League level club. There is no shame in that. The squad cost £15 million. That’s Salah’s left calf muscle. We are also new to this level. It is a quantum leap from last season. That takes adjustment.

William Purdie

I honestly don’t know why we keep measuring our team against teams like Liverpool. We all know the financial disparity between the clubs. We should look at the opponents that have taken points from Anfield. Crystal Palace and Brighton have Premiere League income but don’t have Champions League income. Both were unlucky not to take full points. Are we not better than CP or BHA?

Spoon

We convinced ourselves based on 55 and a decent Euro run we had a far better squad than we had. I personally think we have become emotionally invested in guys who have repeatedly underperformed and take up large salaries and ‘star man’ status in players like Kent and Morelos. It’s not that they are bad players they just need a number of factors to align to give their best and this doesn’t happen often enough. We need to accept some of these guys are done for us, not done as players but they are burnt out or no longer have the fire they had that made them stars in our team. To me the unacceptable element of last night is the lack of desire and willingness to take it to them. I get that we weren’t going to pass around them or cut them open but we should have had a platform with that formation to be solid in the back and middle while occasionally getting there full backs up in support at times. Week in week out in football underdogs can make a game of it against top teams or at least compete against their own man during the game. For me the myth Morelo brings something different is a fallacy, he caused the defence (a 2 man defence) zero problems. He didn’t hold it up, he kept coming out the box so that we couldn’t even go long. We would have been far better with Colak who would have at least kept them honest. Morelos is clearly still out of shape and the quicker we can move him on the better. All that being said it didn’t have to go this way, what I do agree with is that if we had worked hard we could have acquitted ourselves far better or at least fashioned the odd chance. That game was a best case scenario for Liverpool in how we sat off. Disappointed mostly as I feel our euro confidence was what helped us in league last few years.

Gary Morris

Premier league income absolutely dwarfs champions league money at this stage

KAD87

Agreed with this. I completely understand peoples points of view when it comes to lack of belief and lack of fight…but we need to be realistic here. We’ve been beaten by Liverpool, Ajax and Napoli. What planet are people on if they are raging about this?

KAD87

I don’t disagree that we have regressed in terms of style of play. But Gio has achieved a cup win (Gerrard didn’t) and he got us to a European Final. His away form has been shocking but just because he has been beaten by Serie A leaders, Eredivise winners and a team that has been to 3 CL finals out of 5 does not make him like Pedro. Perspective required imo.
