Cant wait for Wed night to see some different faces. Tav, offers us nothing right now.Clearly injured. Lundstrum with so many passes without looking recently that put us under pressure. Kent, cant be arsed with him anymore to be honest. Scunnered. Just drop him. Play Sakala. At least he has something about him.

Gary Shaw

Another “papering of the cracks performance”….apart from Davies I’m not sure if there was anymore than a 5/10 performance from anyone

Leslie White

For the first half we were out in the car, so we only had radio commentary. Thomson and Craigen both repeatedly said they couldn’t believe Rangers were so meek in response to the Liverpool result. They both expected a Team to come out showing a full attacking attitude!

Gary Shaw

100% Tav is playing with an injury…..reluctant to go in for basic tackles and getting outmuscled more often than not which you never see happening to him

Stewart Thomson

Can see why Liverpool signed Davies in the first place. Looks a class act. Now please for the love of god, don't get injured!

Andrew Hillis

Massive 3 points today despite another expected flat performance! When you are so far out of confidence and form you have to be grateful for the result! However it was a good game for us to get - Motherwell now haven’t beaten us in the league in 53 games! 🤣🤣🤣

Christopher Donnelly

You can give pass marks to the centre halves, Leon King had a really solid game up against a handful of a player in Van Veen. Davies looks like the defender we've been needing alongside Goldson, just a shame of Goldsons injury. Solid 3 points but there's no getting past the fact that the 11 need a refresh and quickly.

Colin Carstairs

Manager after 11 months in charge still does no what his best formation is nor his way of playing. Seems to be one so called bad game & you are dropped. That said Davies,King,Tilman performed decent but to many struggling for confidence.Asking SA to play 3 games on the bounce is criminal & that’s on the manager for me. Domestically we aren’t far away just a struggle watching & hoping we don’t mess things up.

Spoon

Great Pod gents and not negative at all thought it was all very measured and realistic. I get there isn’t a lot of love out there for positivity from the wider support and I fully understand why. The question is who is really to blame for the way the team is playing and what are the realistic options? I think it would be easy to focus on Gio, his manner, his ‘tactics’ and his selections but for me that’s not the full story. For those that are annoyed by the negative passing (which I am also at my wits end with) do we honestly think he tells them to just pass it aimlessly until they get caught out? We heard midweek how he stated he made the team aware that if we short pass and invite the Liverpool press it would go wrong, and we know how that ended. I don’t believe for a second he is coaching the team to just sit in and not get forward, I don’t believe that he is telling Borna to turn back, or Arfield to slack pass constantly, or Kent to trip over the ball are we really suggesting he wants to play this way or is it his Dutch stubborn belief in the tactics and shape that just requires the players to actually do their bit ? I get the counter to that is he should play a shape that suits our players but that takes us onto the squad and what we have in terms of quality. This squad is past it, in some cases due to age and physicality, in some cases due to staleness and mental fatigue and in others due to form or injury but we are currently the sum of a lot of broken parts. What isn’t so obvious is how to sort that, investment would have been the obvious answer, but I suspect if that was going to be forthcoming, we might still have had SG here at the helm. Regardless of the manager the squad has not been naturally upgraded or refreshed the way most squads are. We have been unimaginative in terms of retaining guys who played a bit a few years ago and now seem to be in with the bricks. We have kept talents beyond their sweet spot in Kent, Kamara (remember him) and Morelos who due to either a mental block or mercurial madness are no longer making anything like the contributions they have in the past. It's sad, it happens but you move on…except we don’t. As a club we have always romanticised our players as if they are all here for the crest, the reality is they aren’t, they aren’t fans like us and while we can absolutely make connections with people who buy into Rangers, we should have no qualms about cutting them loose when they aren’t performing regardless of what they did last season, or the season before, or in flashes once in every few games. How depressing must it be to be young talent at the club and watch the same guys who aren’t performing week in week out not only get picked but get contract extensions when we are apparently still invested in youth development. Probably as annoying as to be considered a kid because you’re a 20-year-old Scot while the 20-year-old foreign lad comes into the team as he’s a bit exotic from another league. Yes, we are in a bit of a mess right now. Yes, it can be a hard watch where you wonder what the plan is but for me a lot of that is simply down to players not being of the required quality, not being in good form or not taking ownership of what they are required to do in the system. I listen to loads of the pods where people offer up team selections and there is not a lot of difference between what people think we should play and what Gio puts out. The difference is he expects the players to commit to their role and I’m not sure enough of them are doing their best work currently for the reason I mentioned earlier. Finally, a genuine question and please don’t come back at me with ‘that’s not up to me to decide it's on the board’ IF we part ways with Gio and his team who comes in and what realistically happens for this season / next season? Do we still expect with a whole staff binned and the same player issues to continue to compete for the league this year? What about the inevitable rebuild season, do we write off next year too? Do we believe we can turn this squad around in one winter / summer window? Will the board back that financially? It's not a valid reason to retain a guy who is failing and can only continue to fail just because it's difficult or will cost money, but wouldn’t it be better to improve the squad and make the team better rather than spend what money we have on severance? I get all the unrest and concern, I don’t quite get the fans who seem to be gleefully insulting Gio but that’s another story, but what is the answer? When do the players and board take ownership of their own part in this? What has really changed since last season, other than another year on a few players who should be gone / retired. I tend to think this is about attitude from bottom to the top, but I can't quite get on board with some of the vitriol against Gio or believe he is coaching the players to be negative, slack pass, constantly back pass, short pass, not mark, don’t jump for headers etc. Enjoyed the pod and as I say agree with a lot of what was said, perhaps I am just not sold on the reasons some people give for where we are as many now seem quick to point the finger at Gio as though it's an accepted fact it's on him, I just think there are more elements at play.

Paul

Typical Gio performance. We all know how this is ending...

David

Another manager won't do any better until the recruitment team is replaced.

John Davidson

My wife, who is not a football fan, watched 2 minutes of today's match and said it looked like a bunch of hungover blokes having a kick about on the public park on a Sunday morning. Spot on I'm afraid.

Andrew

That was our first goal from a corner since Balogan against Dortmund.

Paul

I agree with the recruitment needing changed. Disagree on the manager, we've seen it countless times when a new manager comes in and gets a tune out of the same players. I refuse to believe there isn't a manager out there that couldn't do better

Billy Forrester

A send glass eye to sleep typical Gio performance, sadly this will continue until he is removed. God help us when we meet Celtic again, we are not gonna win this league, not a hope

David

You don't go from getting a team to a European final and winning a SC to being a shite manager. He has lost 2 quality players and the players RW presented him with are just not good enough. Gio has been hung out to dry. I don't believe this pish football is how he wants to play, he just doesn't have the personnel to play the way he wants.

George Harrison

Excellent post ! Mr Edgar, how about giving Spoon a slot on a Pod, perhaps a debate with Stryder ? 👍

Gary Shaw

Yep,can’t disagree with that…I think whatever the injury is,it’s just affecting his whole game

Paul

Really? Ask the Feyenoord fans how he played football. "Horseshoe" He is doing the exact same thing here. If he didn't want those players then he should have said so. He also lost the league last year.... look we can agree to disagree. Results will determine everything 👍

Spoon

Mate appreciate the comment but I’m just a fan with an opinion that’s no more or less relevant than anyone else’s. I actually tend to agree with Alex so it would be a short show and not in line with the wider fan base it seems these days! Happy to take the easy route of sitting at the back and throwing the proverbial at those in front 👍🏻

Gary Shaw

I would say I’m one of the most pessimistic posters on this site and I’ve not had the buy in with Gio from day 1 but call me crazy,I still feel this league title is a real possibility

Andrew Finlayson

I don’t think we can win this league with Mcgregor in goals. He lost a poor goal against Dundee Utd that fans glossed over because of his European performances and maybe that’s far and today was poor alongside his abysmal display against Liverpool. Great to see Tillman get that goal, hopefully does his confidence the world of good.

Gary Brown

Well said Spoon. I always enjoy your bigger picture thinking, well considered analysis and calm, eloquent posts.

Gary Brown

Thanks for the post match pod guys 👍😊

Douglas Hannah

Need just keep winning up to WC, get that break get players back hopefully see an upturn in performances, don’t make it easy for that mob, 2 points in it. Hoping Roofe maybe Hagi young Lowry in the team by then. And if Morelos and Kent are looking to go ask them you going out like a damp squib or blaze of glory. In our hearts we all knew type of performance we would get today after midweek, hopefully Tillmans goal gives him a boost and sees him go on a good run, got 3 points and that’s all that mattered.

Gary Shaw

That’s not like you David 😂…I think I’m more hanging my hat on that mob going through a bad patch shortly rather than us going on a 20 game winning streak

Gary Shaw

Reminds me of 04/05,in that I think they’re slightly better than us but if we can keep plugging away then there might be an opportunity for us to go and capitalise 🤞

Heart and Hand

Yeah that’s fair. I like our fixtures up to WC. I just worry about daft draws away at the tougher venues.

Gary Shaw

Yeah, that’s always in the back of my mind as these players, under Gio haven’t really gave us reason to trust them in away games domestically…

William

If 19 year old Tillman is able to play, why can't Charlie McCann

Spoon

So much of what gets Tav pass marks is his dynamism, without that or his runs and assist it leaves him with the weakest element of his game highlighted. Sadly due to the current mood the fans don’t appreciate a guy putting himself out there for the team week in week out most likely in pain but see it as him just being gash, shame really but I get why in the current rage climate.

Jim Milne

Am I being cynical in thinking we will see Gio play Alfie and Colak together soon mainly to appease the fans? Last season he wouldn't make substitutes until fans and fan media were so vocal, then the same with players like Steve Davis & Arfield. They weren't getting a look in, many questioned it then suddenly they're in the team. I just don't see how Gio turns this around. Irrespective of who we blame; the board, Wilson, Gio, the players, all of them or a mixture the reality is we've reached a point where we are one game away from fans turning more towards a managerial change. The AGM is gonna be a doozy this year.

Lee

Please for the love of God spare me anymore borna back passes

Alex Hood

Any Podders suggesting that the young players are somehow the answer to our problems during a mini-crisis need to have a re-think. I’m all for giving lads a chance, but based on what I saw from King today this is not the time unless we have no other options.

Scott Watson

This "Gio wouldn't make subs" thing is a total myth Go back and look at his first 9 games in charge before the break and there was 3-4 subs every game He went one game without making any (which remember, we won) and we got collective amnesia about anything that happened before it

Jim Milne

It ain't a myth. Check the stats after the break. Davis sat on the bench for weeks, Gio said he wasn't fit while he was playing for NI. It culminated in media including H&H asking him to explain his lack of subs for several games after he left the team dying in their arse against St. Johnstone hanging on 1-0 win after Kamara scored early doors. Next game he brought on Davis and a few others just after half-time and several players including Davis started getting a game. Its not the first time Gio has reacted to media pressure.

Craig

Couldn’t sleep tonight so I put on the pod. If only I had the ability to watch the match back I would’ve been out like a light! The team is definitely drinking decaffeinated coffee now and taking day trips to Ibiza in between games going by their enthusiasm. I love my team - but it is an entertainment industry!!! Like most I have off days at work where the cap gets lowered and head down - but I don’t have the pressure of a) Hundreds of thousands of supporters watching me. b) getting paid an obscene amount of money for kicking a ball. c) If I’d cocked up in work a few days earlier - I wouldn’t have the brass neck to try and hide again from my duties a few days later. I know they are human - but can someone please grab them by the throat and tell them you get one chance. You’ve ruined all the progress in Europe- don’t give the haters, press and fans any more signs that you aren’t playing for the jersey. Rant over, birds tweeting now. Probably just one magpie no doubt.

Gary Shaw

I agree mate and just for the record,I am one of the fans that appreciates him in the here and now but I think for a lot of others it will take a major injury or when he leaves for them to realise how important he is to us.

Keiren hastie

I agree about tav but Devine looks spooked whenever I’ve seen him. Not like when Patterson came in
