Totally agree but don’t want the players to get away with this either. Players have let us down just as much as Gio

Rona Bluebell

I started to write a pithy insight, but fuck it. PJs on, chippy ordered and settling down to a night with Tony Adams and Strictly.

Brett

In an ideal world you would have Gio, Tav, Kent, Morelos, Barasic, Helander, Arfield, Wright, Matondo, Sakala etc all away and replaced. Load of fan favourites in there and players who have served us well but I think we need to cut ties with as many as possible and start again. Finances dictate that can’t happen though so the manager will be the only 1 to go and his successor will find himself at the mercy of these players when they decide to stop playing for him.

Stuart Currie

Completely agree. Normally I would be going off my head, but I'm past the angry stage. I now know every time we play under Gio it will be a tough watch. Today's result has been coming and we all know it.

Laura McCrimmon

A change is potentially needed and I actually hate to say that as I so wanted it to work for gio especially after last season. For me the players are so much at fault I think they have let gio down badly and they have previous for this. You even said it David we have seen performances like this under Gerrard...he got time so why can't gio be given it????

stephen

We are told that Wilson purchases the players with input from Gio, Gio then doesn't appear to play them. Somebody somewhere is feeding us bullshit.

Gary Shaw

Matondos appearance has got to be up there with the worst individual performance I’ve seen from a Rangers player….I’m not sure if that’s anger talking coz it’s so soon after the game but I don’t think it is

Gary Shaw

Every single person who suffered through that pathetic performance on Wednesday night could see the only two slightly positive aspects were Ridvan and Wrights performances yet none of them start or even get on…I’m honestly at a loss with Gio

Thanks David. An accurate, balanced summary, can’t be easy to do after watching that. Sadly Gio has lost the fans, not the knee jerk noisy minority, he has lost the quite sensible majority, the people who know when it’s over, it’s over. That squad minus Bassey and Aribo took him and his staff to a Euro final. The manager and his chosen staff have since had a closed season training camp and made a number of signings. The team has regressed significantly, the drive has gone and it’s abundantly clear this team, who were among the fittest team In Europe last season, have lost that base fitness level. It’s over for Gio and every week from here on in, it’s only delaying the inevitable, the board has to react now to save our season but I don’t think they will.

Graham Ross

Rangers never twigged this.....wow

John Mclevy

I think Gio will last until the World Cup thereafter I think the board will act but it will probably be too late, the players have let the manager down this season but ultimately the manager has to take responsibility don’t see any way back unless (a) the players start busting a gut for him or (b) he makes it to January and the board allow him to buy his own players - don’t see either happening therefore it’s just a matter of when just hoping we can win games domestically until the World cup and hope the board act and we see a change and also they spend in January on some quality midfielders

Heart and Hand

Because, for whatever reason, fans believed Gerrard would turn it round. We don’t in the main believe Gio will. That creates an atmosphere and our players wilt.

Russell McGhee

It's telling that with a Dutch manager and a Dutch backroom team (including the former head of the Ajax Academy) we don't have a single Dutch player.

Russell McGhee

There's obviously a disconnected between Wilson and the management team.

Graham Jones

I think Martindale is being cute here, because he could never have thought his side would survive 75 crosses. That’s him doin man management for HIS players. If the feeling is he has to go then fine, but then the dwarf has to go as well. He was the one that bought all the players for him. If some one is responsible here, then it has to be a shared responsibility. Th player are lacking any real belief. This goes back to the game at the piggery. It all stemmed from there. I saw someone on twitter mention we have a really tight budget. What I would ask is why is that the case? What have they spent all the extra revenue they’ve raised on? If they don’t have it, then it has to have went somewhere. We know that this board are not spivs, so they need to explain a few things. Unless they didn’t fancy GvB in the summer, and have decided to hold back a war chest for a new manager, but that would be out of character for the current board. The biggest error that GvB made was not playing the political side of being Rangers manager at all. He has simply accepted what the board have told him. He had to push back much earlier, and now he is powerless at the club from that perspective.

Looking back the Tom Laurence injury was clearly a hammer blow but we have enough other good players to be a lot better than this. Gio out!

Leslie White

I agree totally with David, although I can’t keep my benign anger to whole team, I’m selecting it at one player, Ryan Kent, before leaving, up to that stage he ventured into the penalty box, ONCE! the rest of the time he shirked it by pass after pass to Barasic. If he signs a pre contract in January, he should play his time out with the B Team, which wouldn’t be fare to them!

Gary Shaw

Gerrard took over a team that had Russell Martin,Jason Cummings and Jason Holt in it which had just lost 5 to Hibs and 5 to Celtic and Celtic were bulldozing their way to treble after treble….Gio came in to a team that was just off the back of an invincible title winning season and had a six point gap at Christmas against a Celtic team that were in transition and had their worst start to a league season in 25 years and still managed to lose the title by 4 points….add to that 2 tankings at Parkhead in 7 months and on track to have the worst record in Champions League history and that’s the reason why he should go….Gerrard gave us the most consistent run in Europe in my lifetime, along with stopping them doing 10IAR…most importantly he put the fire in the fans’ belly again after years of nothing

David Kiltie

Up to today we had experienced poor level of performance yet reasonable results. Today was a case of performance levels catching up with us. Eventually sub par displays are reflected in results.

Spoon

Input can be significant and executive or minor and ignored, I know what I suspect.

Spoon

Great post snd excellent points, you hit the nail on the head his personality was too nice for too long he should have called out the players and board far sooner.

Spoon

Totally agree but add to that sub par players will also eventually bottom out to their level, we have clung to guys who haven’t performed near consistently at the level required for far far too long.

Ally Mair

We ended up last season with a europa league final and a Scottish cup win , we had a whole summer to recruit new players and get them together for weeks on the training ground to integrate them with the rest of the team and be fit and ready to take on all challenges this season , we have failed in my opinion to add serious quality to the starting 11 and with the money we brought in from theeuropa league along with sales of aribo , bassey and Patterson not to mention the 30-40 mil from champions league we should have . I’m afraid we are rapidly regressing and are we any better now than we were a year ago when gio started , the players don’t look motivated anymore, I can see us staying with gio until World Cup but fear that by then we will already be to far behind in the league to pull it back . It’s sickening to see that shower of shite from across the city lord it over us when we have allowed them to do it

Jim Lamb

Fed up with these players who are serial losers. This isn’t helping Gio, but he’s also not showing any adaptability. No way can dropping points to the team with the smallest budget and support be acceptable, especially on the run we’re on. Loads wrong at the club, and changing the manager, albeit looks inevitable, won’t sort the ills at our club.
