This is without doubt the most sensible place for Rangers opinions. With that in mind, let’s have your thoughts and comments on the manager’s future.

Comments

Graeme McG

Should be gone tomorrow. But the board will flat out refuse to do it.

Reece

Why delay the inevitable?

Jonny Wilson

Should've gone after Liverpool at home.

Iain Mitchell

For weeks now we’ve watched us get away with matches and scrape to wins, finally caught up with us domestically today. Seen Celtic go behind earlier and knew they’d come back - half time at Ibrox nobody thought we’d get that win and that speaks volumes.

David Skelton

It's coming sooner rather than later surely so why risk getting further behind in the league by delaying it

David Kerr

Amputate now, stop the inevitable spread.

Alan Stewart

I want him gone now. Wilson can go with him.

Alan Hendry

Won't let me vote for some reason. Answer is he should go now. We are a turgid, negative, soul sapping husk of a team who do everything in slow motion and winge like weans instead of doing something about it.

Jordan McKay

I was hard Gio Out after the final whistle but having calmed down a bit I’m deluding myself again that he can turn it around.

Declan Cairns

Has to go now. But he’s by now means the only one. Several players, Wilson, Robertson etc need the boot. Gross misconduct to be in the position we were after 55 to be where things are now.

Dougie

Can we afford to sack him and his back room staff? Can we afford not to right now?

Douglas McIntosh

He can't get the team motivated. It's the end for any manager. Already had too long

Jamie Gartley

With a month off for the World Cup to reset, and the January window to improve the squad, there is still time to change course this season. Although I’m not sure who we could replace him with, Gio’s time is up.

Walter

I don’t have faith things will change under his management. Nor do I see the squad that’s fit being able to lift it under someone new 😔

Chris

Has to go in my opinion but question is who do we bring in? Is there anyone readily available that could do a better job at the monent?

Craig Mullen

Far bigger issues in the club than the manager and no faith in Ross Wilson to find a good replacement but something needs to change.

Samuel Campbell

It's hard to see how he turns it around to be honest

Coplandbear

He has to go immediately

Robert

It’s only a matter of when… the longer we leave it the further we will fall further behind them!

Ton Fleck

There should be an option for get rid of Wilson and Gio as without getting shot of the man who recruited Gio and then recruited so poorly in umpteen transfer windows it’s pointless.

Ben mackinnon

Has to go now with im afraid. Use the WC break to have a new management team in place to work with players.

Scott

-3 points and +3 goals scored after 10 matches from the 55 season with an injury crisis. Be careful what you wish for.

Charlie Nicolson

He's probably toast, but we're less than flush, so my vote is world cup, with presumption that he leaves. I don't think it would be fair to bring a new management team in while we still have Napoli and Ajax to play.

Jonathan McLeish

Should go now but it's all in vain if Wilson remains.

William Black

I’m a quiet guy generally but he needs to go. Fucking sick of looking at him depressing the shit out of our dugout and I refuse to listen to him during any presser. Should never have been there, it’s a Wilson special “he’s free so sign him”.

Nico

Has to go. But there is a complacency about our board which means that they are so late to read the room. Would be surprised if they’ve even thought to ask Ross Wilson (also part of the problem) to draw up a shortlist of replacements

Lee

I'm saying review at the end of the season. The manager/performances right now feel like a symptom more than the problem for me.

Jamiedinho

If the team were showing something I'd give him till the World Cup but our tactics today we're a disgrace. Literally give the ball to Barasic to whip in aimless crosses all day.

stephen

If he goes Wilson and the entire football department must follow him.

Rod

No matter what, its going to be the same players on the pitch even after he is gone.

Gary Robertson

Our director of football should, in theory, have the next manager lined up. But who has the next director of football lined up? And should we wait for the next director of football to appoint a new manager? And do we trust the board to get the next appointments right? Or does only one of them carry the can? It’s a mess. An absolute mess.

Steven Watt

With the exception of Hearts a couple of weeks ago, we’ve been terrible domestically all season & don’t get me started on Europe. He HAS to go. The question is, who comes in?

Tommy

No point in delaying. Just don’t give the interim job to Murty!! In all seriousness, if the Board don’t have a successor lined up it’s serious ineptitude.

Gregg

It’s not just on today - the three performances this week have been abject and there seems no real ability to change it. Like Gio and feel sorry for him but it’s simply not working and don’t see it turning, hoped we could get to World Cup and reset but that’s not happening. The worry is do we have a shortlist - do we trust Wilson to appoint someone. Who do we get - Beale has KB’d wolves so seems unlikely he’d come to us? The bodo glimt boy is left field option but no sure he’d get the time. I fear we’ll be linked with the likes of Sean Dyche which fills me with despair. Even the dugs in a shite mood the day

james whyte

Has to go. Take Wilson with him. Pack Kent and Morelos in his suitcase as he goes. Neither players can be arsed imo. Morelos cant get fit amd needed dropped, Kent, well, I dont need to explain. His output for a winger at us in the SPL is dreadful

Tom

I love you gio, but I'm sorry you don't have what it takes to lead our team to glory!

Stuart Sheils

We’re all saying- as soon as he drops points he needs to go, why wait. If we’re going to drop points I’d rather do it enjoying the football, Ibrox was dead on Wednesday and not full today either, people are voting with their feet.

Steven Speirs

Results are catching up with performances and Gio doesn't turn the tide on that. Unfortunately as many have said, the rot goes deeper than Gio. Gio is the only realistic change that we can hope for right now though.

James Curran

He has to go now. His style of play combined with the regression or general unwillingness of our star players to follow his tactics/instructions is frightening. The season can still be saved if we hire the correct manager

Jamie Townend

Forgetting the champions league games there are 4 league games up to the world cup. Leave him in post until then and remove at a time which gives us a chance at getting a new manager in the door and gives the new manager a chance to work with the team before we're back to meaningful competition.

Michael Elliott

Too long now it's been heading down the slippery slope. For Gio's POV his tactics are so one dimensional and simple to defend against - is this dragging the players motivation and mentality down...? Other aspects to this, which steer to Ross Wilson's direction in the contract positions and transfer strategy, but on the park the pts gap will on increase as the weeks pass.

Spoon

None of the options work for me (not to be contrary) Yes he has to go as he has lost the majority of the fan base hearts and minds Yes it would be better to just go now BUT he has been sold badly short by his players and the board

Darren Todd

The most telling thing for me is I’m not hurting the same way I normally do tonight. I’m not excited to watch games. I’m not even celebrating goals as much. Seen others say likewise. It shouldn’t be like this. He has to go to get the spark back.

craig drummond

He has to go but not the only one, Ross Wilson and whoever else is involved in recruitment also must be giving there jotters as the last 3 years is been nothing short of negligence!

Jamie

We are embarrassing under Gio. We can’t seem to defend set pieces. He waits too long to make subs, then makes the wrong subs. He’s too negative and it feels like we don’t have a style of play under him. Can’t wait till he is gone. I wish we would replace him with someone who doesn’t have any link to us and wasn’t necessarily a footballer, but I don’t hold out much hope. Ross Wilson is also a major issue and needs to go. But we are dealing with a board who are reactive rather than proactive. I think we need a Warburton esque appointment where the whole culture of the club changes and brings back exciting football.

M

I only suggest until the world cup as the thought of McCallum going to Naples and running with the other games until we get a replacement is actually worse than the current situation. If they have a replacement in mind, he can leave yesterday.

Alan Cumming

The correct time was weeks ago It has to be now

Gary campbell

Should already be gone and I take no pleasure saying that about a rangers manager but his position is untenable he started davis as a box to box midfielder and arfield on the right of a front 3 against livi at home still don’t know what mcann and ridvan need to do to get a chance

Daniel Ward

GVB isn’t going to leave on his own so needs to be sacked as does ross Wilson. The bar only rises remember, and if that’s the case they should be relieved of there duties immediately

David Findlay

Some of the displays this season have been quite frankly embarrassing. Rangers should never be beaten 4-0 never mind twice in a row. Don’t even get me started on the Liverpool debacles. The way we play is so predictable I honestly think everyone has us sussed.

Callum Dinnen

I've gone for review at the World Cup - he has too much credit in the bank from the Europa run for me to want him gone now. I might look back on this in 4 weeks and think I was too conservative but unless there's an unemployed manager who'd be chomping at the bit to come here I don't see what we gain by binning him now. The playing squad is the bigger issue. We've seen this shite under two different managers; sacking Gio might mean that the new guy gets a bounce effect (as, ironically, Gio managed for his first 2 months) but any new manager will face the same issues unless he bins a good 5 or 6 players from the current squad who have been here too long and have gone badly stale. I reserve the right to change my mind if Bielsa is available. A few Murderball sessions should sort those shysters out good and proper.

Douglas Innes

Said it in the car pod he started with 2 attackers of which only 1 is a regular goal scorer which should be enough for any manager to get the sack at Rangers , 2 sitting midfielders at home ?? ..... its livingston not Liverpool, get rid

Ewan McQueen

Has to go now but must be with Wilson in tow. Sad that it has to be like this after a year in which he gave us those memorable European nights at Ibrox, but I see a team in a complete rut with a manager at a loss as to how to change it. Wouldn't trust Wilson if told me today was Saturday, he can't be involved in the next manager process.

Chris Urie

The scot Cup and the europa final was most likely papering over the cracks as our league form was bipolar last yr. This year it feels as if its falling of a cliff with the team playing with no idea what to do or looking as if they care. Team and recruitment board has come to the end of its cycle

Jamie Currie

Unfortunately, it’s not been great over the summer, and that’s before you factor in the league campaign last season and this season as a whole. We have no style, no shape, no fight.. nothing. We are very bland. However, when Gio does eventually go, Ross Wilson should be in no way shape or form choosing another manager. They both have to go and we need some new direction in the football department.

Graeme Edwards

I think we need change now. My only worry is sacking him and his back room staff probably bursts our January transfer budget then having to replace them with a new manager and coaching team leaves us in the shit in terms of much needed recruitment.

Neil Fox

I think Gios been done by injuries do far I seen an 11 that were out injured on FF and it possibly looked stronger than our current 11. Still there looks no plan. Today, Livi defend their box well We put on more players to flood the box and continue to swing in crosses

Steven Harvey

He needs to go now. No messing about, get him out tonight! He’s been a shambles in the league since the minute he was appointed. Europe was great last year but at the end of the day we are not Tims and don’t celebrate losing the final the same as we don’t celebrate Man ‘08. Overseen horrendous results and I can see another disaster mid-week and a strong possibility of dropping points to Aberdeen!

Connell Forbes

Nah he has to go and go now, we're not improving and he's no realising that the dross in this league need treated as such, fresh ideas needed in now

Leslie Hibbert

Definitely doesn't feel knee jerk to say leave immediately. You know it when you see it, and what's the point in dragging it out any longer? The only thing making me hesitant to get rid, is I have zero trust in Ross Wilson etc to bring in and support a new manager. That's the most depressing thing, it will feel like sacking him solves nothing when the problems run much deeper.

Brian Cairney

He needs to go now and he can take Ross Wilson with him.

Alan Weir

It won’t happen as the wolves are now baying for blood, but I would like to have seen what Gio could do with the likes of Davies, Lawrence, Colak, Morelos, Lowry and one or two others fit and integrated into the team. Today’s team selection and the chaotic chasing of the game towards the end suggests that the plot has been well and truly lost. With Napoli on the horizon, the end seems inevitable.

Callum Gordon

Voted go now but injuries do have a huge impact but so do badly awarded contracts , it has been shown there is a pathway from the B team/reserves but that pathway isn’t clear , there are old brambles and nettles overhanging it that snag the folk trying to get through . But aye go now it’s not working .

Shona

Gio needs to go. Wilson needs to go. Most of the squad needs to go. Football board needs to go. Absolutely scunnered.

drgriffen

On paper I can understand the rationale for giving him time, but we know this is just kicking the can down the road. Be it today or some time in the future he is done so better to be sooner rather than later. I will add that he shouldn't be the only one to take the blame. The players, Ross Wilson (his position needs to be seriously considered, as well) and the Board need to look at how they are performing.

Harry Padda

I think it’s time to go. But not just the management team, Ross Wilson needs to go too. He should be judge in the same manner as the manager. But as for the manager who do we bring? No names jump out to me.

John stewart

Like Gio as a person but performances only point to him (and his backroom staff) not being up to the job. There’s a small chance he can turn things around but don’t see any evidence. He’s had his chance and it’s time to move on.

Ross Hauser

Should be gone tomorrow but I think the board will give him till world cup

Chris Urie

True but even with Gerrards team we never feared a roasting from celtic on the league

Robert Cameron Murray

I’m losing faith quickly but still behind him, for 7 minutes 90-97 Kent looked a player today, this squad is capable of so much more but it has lost all belief and confidence. Injuries have hit us hard but I’m not sure he knows his best 11 anyway. It’s so frustrating as we have no identity or pattern of play, I’m the most easy going fan around and support to the bitter end but I can’t see how he turns this around as the players don’t look up for it

David Clapperton

So sad it’s came to this coz I like him as a guy n think he’s a good manager. He’s just not a Rangers manager. When he goes he should be taking Wilson with him tho. No way should that man get off Scott free. He’s been a fuckn disaster.

Kevin Blyth

Been talking about this in our chat group. The Board is ultimately to blame here as they haven’t invested (even when they said they would). Robertson said very clearly that all funds from players would be reinvested. That hasn’t been the case. Much of this team needed disbanding post 55, yet here we are with a bunch of 30+ year olds making up our core. That said, we should be MORE than good enough to comfortably beat the likes of Livingston. The Board have been fast asleep at the wheel since 55. And I’m genuinely not sure what value the likes of Wilson beings. Hard to believe we find ourselves here to be honest.

Graham Leggate

EL final and Scottish cup. Mental injury list. Recruitment utter garbage. All that said we are regressing and uninspired. Want him gone. And Wilson

Jim Milne

He's definitely an enigma. I've never been so torn over a Manager. He was 1 kick away from immortality, yet we look terrible all in the same calendar year. Even if we change I don't think any manager coming in can turn this season around with the injuries, fitness, form, etc .....but then I think of Chelsea sacking DeMatteo after winning a European Cup. I want him to turn it around but I don't think he can, and I think he knows it too.

Andrew

We’ve done this dance before - heavy McLeish 05/06 energy to the past few weeks. It’s obviously not going to turn around so why prolong the pain?

Jamie W

Don’t see him turning it around. So that would suggest that the board cut him loose now, these no reason for this to continue. Then in the January window and the summer some of these players need to pay the price too. They shat the bed under Gerrard and have done so under Gio. That can’t happen to a 3rd manager. Ross Wilson’s position has to be seriously considered too. It seems like him and Gio don’t work well together, for whatever reason. The Yilmaz signing being the biggest concern. Who wanted him and if it wasn’t Gio why was he signed.

Scott Hamilton

Immediate change required. Evidently zero belief within the players although it shouldnt be a surprise after he said publicly we cant compete in the Champions League, regardless of how true or not that may be. Time to go

Spoon

Very fair and was there myself but at game today crowd is toxic towards him (not all without foundation incidentally) I heard people slating him for sitting in dug out, coming out dug out, making subs, not making subs and even blame him for bad crosses. Not sure you turn that around.

Richy Ballantyne

I’ll drive that donkey back to Rotterdam. Problems run far deeper than him however. Our board are completely out of touch & have taken us as far as they can. Ross Wilson has been a disaster for the duration of his stay & that squad is full of cowards who just aren’t good enough. Apart from that though we’re in good shape.

Ewan Christie

Needs to go but I don’t trust Wilson to make the right choice to replace him. Also don’t trust Wilson with the level of investment that the squad clearly requires.

Gordon Millar

Not knee-jerk and still have respect for GVB...but the players don't buy into this and the fans have left the room......its just not working, time to go.....obvious statement but the next appointment is critical!

Chris Macfarlane

Don’t like to say he should go, his record on paper is in some ways utterly incredible. But the plaster needs ripped off.

Amanda stewart

We have been shafted by this board by not strengthening. Humiliated in Europe and we will suffer a similar hell in this domestic drudgery. The injuries are not an excuse!! We are back to being scared of being gubbed. We have been taken for mugs.

Miguel Sanchez

The problem I have with sacking Gio is do we trust Wilson to properly replace him with the right manager? And will target the players to best suit said manager or will he appoint a poor choice and get more square pegs for round holes in January and be in a mess come the end of the season and the new manager is already on a shoogly peg?

Doug

I think the reality sits in between the second & third options. I feel like unless something significant happens between now and the WC he won’t be removed. That then gives him the WC to work with the majority of the squad to refresh and rework things. The breathing space will also hopefully benefit the players as well. I think following that we then need to see the team come out with purpose and refreshed motivation. It’s the first three games after the break that are then key and for me the decision potentially comes. I see no point in giving him to the WC to potentially review and then sack him during. If you’re going to sack him earlier, do it now so the new manager has all the WC break to work with the team. If you keep him to the WC, then you have to give him that natural break to save things, then you react quickly afterwards if it seems clear nothing has changed. The remainder of the season then gives the new manager time to assess the squad, as they’ll need to get time to decide what they want to do with all the players at the ends of their contracts. In particular Kent & Morelos.

Steve23

Sad to say he needs to go now. The team’s performance is trending ever downwards and he won’t stop it now. This is now time critical, the league is slipping away but still salvageable if they act quickly.

TamGer4

Up to World Cup , no improvement no leader of the gers

Craig Montgomery

Unlike most I think we have the players, wrong system and not able to utilise what he has. Time to go

Andrew Meldrum

On one hand - on the way to the game today it felt possible we could end the day top of the league, with Hearts winning in Edinburgh. On the other - we aren't blind. Things aren't right. It is partly due to injuries Lawrence, Goldson in particular. But it's also down to recruitment and the decision to give Arfield and Davis another year rather than finding replacements leads the list of mistakes, with signing Matondo as Brandon Barker's replacement following behind. We don't look as fit as last season, we lack confidence, and the team selections look like throwing random names together in the hope it works. It feels like a death spiral. Get rid now? Only if we know the next steps. I don't want 3 weeks with McCallum as caretaker.

Spoon

Is Neil McCann available ?

Andrew Hunter

Start looking for candidates now, sack him when we've agreed a deal with the right person.

Lee

Aye today was chronic, terrible stuff. But I just don't think a change now does anything for us in all likelihood. Then factoring in the costs to dispatch that entire staff 🤯. It feels like root & branch reform needed, the last thing I want is Gio gone & we just move on to another Wilson masterclass. The amount of people I have seen suggesting Scott Parker gives me the absolute fear.

James Mcgill

Give him till the world Cup.Few injured players be back. Then hopefully strengthen in the window.

Leslie Hibbert

FWIW, I think the board will give him until the WC and the last two CL group games. Knutsen or Dyche would be my shortlist and be looking to have one of them in once CL 6 is over.

David Hanlon

He should have gone after the Liverpool game. We are getting worse. He is playing unfit player's, never a good sign.

TamGer4

I feel if we don’t let him prove his worth through this down turn then we will never know if he could have went on to bigger and better things

Gavin Wood

Can only see it getting worse, with no faith for improvement so my thinking is why prolong it.

John Clarkson

This doesn’t start or end with Gio. The same players more or less have had us feeling like this under Gerrard. They’ve gave us more failure than they have success. Sacking Gio solves nothing.

Gregg

What’s your view David?

Spoon

I’m personally really uncomfortable with the whole player power thing, I like Colaks outlook where you find positives and look after yourself first and foremost but I do accept we aren’t keeping 1 guy and sacking 25 it will always be the other way around, the players need to grow the fuck up quickly though as any underperformed after 55 and have now done it again under Gio so they need to do a bit of soul searching themselves

Chris Devoy

He's got to go. Suffered to many embarrassing results under gio. Wilson should be out as well. Recruitment has been shocking recently. We need a change in direction whilst we still have a chance in the league and direct entry into next seasons cl.

Gary Shaw

Never wanted him to start with tbh and we’re just kicking the can down the road with him…get him out just now,get to the World Cup with 4 points being worse case scenario and give a new manager like a mini pre season type thing with the players during the break

colin peters

Get gio and willson out now . Get a manager like kjetil knutsen in

Spoon

Strangely of all the signs I get annoyed at the most our lack of fitness is the biggest red flag for me. That fitness was a major factor in how we bossed teams during 55 and to throw it away is criminal. I do wonder though if it’s a bit of the Dutch mentality where they treat players like adult pros and expect them to take responsibility for their fitness more than the UK method of ‘babying’ them a bit through it

William Cunningham

I think the players need to have a long hard look at themselves...... that said Gio should leave now. He doesn't seem to have the players backing. He will not walk away so interesting to see what the board do now.

Rob Whiteford

I was one of the 3% voting to give him to the end of the season . For no other reason than I think same will happen to a successor. It can’t be easy when millions are spent on players you didn’t want. If we are replacing him let’s think it through. David you said recently that the “we must do something and this is something, therefore we must do this “ is flawed logic. Panicking now has long term consequences. If we are still mince in April then sack him. We aren’t winning the league with that lot whoever is manager. Appreciate this won’t be popular, but as you say this is great community where differing view are respected.

Gary Q

We all know he can’t stay on, realistically. His (questionable) tactics and/or squad motivation will remove him from the job… but it’s still the same core of players who have continually let us down domestically, in three of the last four years. I struggle to get past that. But it’s obvious the players don’t buy into Gio and his staff.

Paul Kerr

We need changes. He has to go. We have all raised an eyebrow more than once with this manager. Happy with the squad. Can't compete. Etc etc. We have reached the point where we don't trust him and there's no coming back from that in a short timeframe. He'd need months of performances and results at this stage. Time to cut our losses.

Spoon

Rather we went for a Neil McCann or similar this time, at least he would bring a bit of fire…. McCann / Kev Thomson dream team ?!

Iain Wells

I voted for him to go because I’m raging . I would add that we need a replacement first.

Chris Wight

I think the gaffer has been shat on in terms of the signings which have been made by those in senior positions within the club. However, his own man management has been a massive cause for concern in recent weeks. Which doesn’t do his case any good. But when you consider who is missing he has no choice but to play guys like Sakala and Sands who aren’t Rangers quality, is he really to blame for that? He is unable to drop/rest guys who need it due to the lack of depth & the injury list. Not his fault. If the board take action now and sack the manager you’ll still have Ross Wilson picking his replacement, a scary thought considering his track record. Therefore, the DOF should be the first to go and that time is now. Allowing a replacement time to review the current assets and strengthen appropriately in the January window. I would then give the manager until new year to show that he is capable of pulling the team in the right direction with a full squad to select from. Ultimately ending in the old firm game on Jan 2nd. Win that and it’s all go to the end of the season, another performance like previous ones and he’ll be gone and the season will be over. Sorry for the length, just wanted to cover all the factors.

Peter Baird

If we had the composition he'd have been away on Thursday morning

KAD87

We should be calling for Wilson’s head. If Gio goes and we get someone else in, it won’t make fuck all difference if we don’t invest in the team.

Brodie Wilkinson-Slaven

Our domestic form is 'fine'. But fine isn't Rangers. There comes a point where expectations meet reality, and the reality is that things are not good enough right now. He has to go

Ritchie Lamond

Too many times of late he’s come out and said (or at least implied) the players aren’t following instruction - he’s lost the dressing room. They either don’t believe in him and his message or are incapable of executing it. Fundamentally there are bigger issues - Ross Wilson has not supplied the correct standard of player, Stewart Robertson and the board have not supplied the correct budgeting to build and improve the squad.

Jim Milne

The new Dr Ceri first team coach seems a terrible appointment too. Makes you wonder what they do with the fitness data from games. Half the team looks knackered by 5 mins in.

Harry Padda

Is getting an ex-player in the best idea? I’m not sure it is. It’s a shout but I feel that we’ve been down that road with Gio

Iain

He doesn’t turn this around. Needs to go. Problems run deeper than him though.

Colin Kennedy

He’s lost too much of the current squad. At best he’ll get a couple of players at Christmas. That’s not enough when the remaining squad have downed tools and as pointed out above, he’s lost the bulk of the fan base now. It’s tipped against him.

Neil

Agree with most others the problems run deeper, but he’s lost the fans and the players. Frankly need some kind of miracle cash infusion to dig out of the hole we are in with the playing squad.

Martin Davies

Don't waste time - be decisive and hopefully we can salvage the title

Spoon

I’m mostly in this camp, although today at game you can tell the crowd have parted company with him so he will have more and more ire poured on every mistake or slip up. The issue is without changing the squad how does anyone else work with a load of tools that are the wrong type, too old or just not working anymore. A shocking indictment of the boards management of the football operations regardless of the off field stability they delivered

Rona Bluebell

It’s still stunning it’s come to this when you think where we were this time last year. 55 still glorious and top of the league with a good gap. It wasn’t perfect but it’s been a hell of a collapse

Spoon

Your right bud but should the players be getting away with that ? Some of them are displaying little in the way of professionalism. I hate their petulance just now and it’s costing a man his job.

jason hart

Gios only the start of the problem .. the current squad is simply not good enough and have a terrible work ethic .. zero onfield leadership .. so many problems on and off the field ... but a start would be replacing gio

Michael Scott

Can’t see us winning anything under Gio this season would like to see him leave now but Ross Wilson needs to leave aswell

Tamus

Just get to fuck you uninspiring stuttering lisping c**t - too harsh?

Gregg

Agreed. Worst case new manager builds towards next season, god that sounds awful to even say. Did we get the boy parks in or was that just pish?

Stuart Frew

Been feeling it since parkhead, that gio wasn't going to take us any further, we can find reasons to support him & blame the board/Wilson, blame the players & him & they are all fair. But for me, no rangers manager survives 2 doings at parkhead in the way they happened, champ league results, amongst 3-3vs County & 2-2vs motherwell from last season, there no identity about this team, most of all I don't think the players believe in him

Graham Jones

Sorry, but I’m not voting. I love the shows and the fact that the channel exists, but I find this embarrassing.

David Smart

Unfortunately I don’t see any way back for him, there’s no glimmer of hope to hold on to and I’ve personally waited till today to be in the gio out camp.

David Harrison

Yeah this is as pathetic as the groups on Facebook that post similar pish. Like something a teenager would post.

Neil McWhirter

Not looking good for Gio that was a must win today and we didn't win.

Gary Oliphant

The disconnect between Gio, the fans and the players tells me he needs to go and now

Gary Shaw

Im not going to pretend to know the ins and outs of boardroom level but I find it a bit embarrassing that the board,Ross Wilson,Stewart Robertson etc are all getting it in the neck for this…it reminds me of the way the tims acted when we won 55….if we can’t beat a team at home, that’s full of free transfers, who go down to 10 men with 20mins remaining and a gaffer that’s no long out the nick then that’s nothing to do with the board

Ritchie Lamond

I agree but unfortunately it’s the way of the world when things are going wrong (and not just in football), it’s always the middle manager who takes the rap and has to walk. Ultimately Gio is responsible for discipline and morale - he clearly can’t handle that either. His only public spat has been with Alfie and can we honestly say his approach has made any difference other than him looking like he doesn’t give a shit anymore? The issues run deeper and our team’s leadership group should look themselves in the mirror too - for example where is the John Lundstram who was snarling and having a go at Calvin Bassey for apologising to them for a tackle? That’s indicative to me of a systemic issue through the team.

Nicky Dock

I loved Gio as a player and was desperate for this to work out but its been a disaster this season and time for a change

Allan

I doubt the board will act quickly. I'm not sure who would replace him but Wilson should have someone identified. Then again that's a whole other question. He's a dead man walking after that result.

Kris Hendry

He’s had about a year now and in that time I genuinely can’t see what he’s done to the squad in terms of putting his stamp and style of play across. We have regressed badly (Europa run aside). We need someone in who is going to stamp their authority on the squad and get them playing football the way we expect

Stephen Gale

It is just a simple poll of the listeners that begins a good discussion on a very topical issue.

Jon McNeill

I like Gio and he clearly has some good qualities as a manager. I don't trust his team's not to capitulate in big matches (UEFA cup run a significant exception) and the style is too defensive and slow. I actually feel slightly bad for selecting "leave now", however, I don't see things getting better.

Graeme clunie

Absolutely hate calling for managers head but as David said there's a clear disconnect on the pitch, the team is playing within themselves, the team has become predictable, the manager rotates the squad and kills any momentum of players trying to find form, tav needs rested as he's clearly injured, recruitment has been poor again (barring colak) the board needs to listen to the fans and put gio out if his misery.

Nick Reilly

Issue is board won’t act & if they did would you trust them/ Wilson to get right man? Give him funds. Didn’t back Gio or Gerrard fully. Absolute shit show. FWIW I don’t think we should sack him now but majority of social media & H&H want him out. So doesn’t matter minority think. Football is terrible but he has been getting results this season despite 1–1 today & few hammerings

Callum Dinnen

That's what angered me so much about today. In 7 minutes of stoppage time we played with tempo and urgency and created enough chances to arguably win the game. Minutes 1-90 was utter crap and I don't believe the game plan was 'alright lads, remember what we practiced, plenty of slow, turgid, negative possession today.' Gio will eventually pay for this with his job but the players should carry a lot of the flak for today. If they'd played the first 90 minutes the way we played the last 7 we'd have won that game about 6-1.

Ash

Shit show and dreading games. Feels like pre Gerrard

Fraser Doonan

I think we need to accept the fact that unless things get really really bad the board won’t pull the trigger. The cost of terminating Gio and his backroom staffs contracts combined with the money required to replace them is too great. I fear we’re going to have to perceiver until either his contract ends or he leaves of his own accord

bluedan1873

After watching the presser leading into the game i thought GVB looked relaxed and in good spirits which gave me hope we were going to see a turn in performance from the team. Unfortunately it wasn't the case. It's clear it's just not working and GVB will pay the price but bigger questions need answered. The bottom line i think for me is despite our long term injuries to big players, we still have enough to get wins and turn in good football and now both are not happening. The bigger issue is of course the squad. We saw a bounce when GVB came in and then a drop after Christmas. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this happened again. Let's face it, these players have more of a track record of that than winning trophies.

John Smith

If I could hijack this for a minute, please reply yes or no if you want Steven Gerrard back

BlueJay

If he stays I am of the opinion we're officially out of Europe on Wednesday. Therefore, sadly, I think we should bag him now. I'll always appreciate the Europa League run; especially the turnover of Leipzig at Ibrox - it's the greatest game I've ever been to, but enough is enough. He has proven he can no longer set us up to compete in Europe with our current squad. Also, there's been too much regression domestically. He has criticised the players in public 3 times in a week who have then subsequently not responded. So they either cant deliver what he is asking for, or they wont. Either way it looks unsalvageable. I believe this is down to Ross Wilson leaving Gio short; but again, this is where the lack of clarity on who has the overall say on what players come in to know for sure.

maccalsa

All fine saying get rid. Who is next? I mean the same players will be playing the week after he goes. Lots of overrated dross. One good season domestically followed by a crap one was hidden by the europa league run, a run where we won more than our fair share of coin flips. The side was starting to decline severely just before gerrard left

BlueJay

not for me john. its like pining for your ex-girlfriend that dumped ye even tho you knew she was wrong for ye.

Richie MacDonald

If Geo goes then Wilson must go too. The slide we're on says the sooner the better.

Paul Kerr

Agreed. Regressing to this extent from a position of strength less than 18 months ago while simultaneously raising a small fortune is quite some feat Kevin. We had a real opportunity to kick on and it's been squandered.

Gary Brown

Europa League Final from a position of non qualification from group stage at takeover. Scottish Cup win, first time since 2008/09. Champions League group qualification, first time since 2010/11. The man deserves the right for more time, he's earned it from his achievements to date.

Blaine Tosh

A European run papered over the cracks, it’s been rotten for months and we have developed a massive inferiority complex against them. Minus his initial new manager bounce it’s been awful domestically since last December.

Ruaraidh Morrison

Could see this coming a mile away. The whole club is a shambles. Everyone criticised Dave King/Craig Houston for calling out the board well they were right. No plan, no forward thinking - an absolute horror show. Gio isn’t good enough that was obvious last season - he blew the league. It needed someone competent to see us over the line and he blew it. The football has been horrific.

BlueJay

They are good points Gary, I feel for him. But I don't think he has time, the fans have turned. Ibrox was toxic today. The scuddings in big games and impotent domestic performances against jobbers are impossible to overlook.

Ian McDonald

I am not one for getting rid of managers on a whim. However, the standard of football is dreadfull and clearly some of the players, Kent in particular has not kicked a ball all seaso

GazMac

He still gets to the end of the season to see how this pans out. Today was a draw, not a loss, felt like a loss. Obviously if results.dont imporve he may have to be relieved of his duties irrespective of the costs invloved.

Al H

Might be WC break before anything happens but end of the road today.

David Campbell

Watching us atm is soul destroying forget if we don't believe in him these players don't. However if GVB goes so should Ross Wilson. He is the route cause of our stagnation on the park. I do not trust him to pick the next manager or to overhaul our squad. He's been watching like the rest of us and still hasn't sorted the midfield.

CJT

No vote from me because none of the options quite cover it. I think if we're a sensible progressive club we give a young manager time to develop. I also think though the tide has turned against him so much among the support that the position is becoming untenable. If the board are considering removing him just do it now. Not my choice but one I understand. If they're going to back him say it and follow it through. That means extraordinary levels of investment because this lot of players ain't going to deliver for any manager. Mentally and physically fatigued from a ridiculously long and challenging season last year. Most need moved on to revitalise them and us. One more point. I'm beginning to think the last 10 years has made us addicted to drama. Everything must be a triumph or a catastrophy. Most things are in the middle. We need to shake that or we'll lurch from one crisis to another and throw our long term future away on short term thinking.

Scott

I don’t hate the man but never ever. Plus he would lose this league by 20+ points

Alan Cowan

As supporters you can see that it's not happening. Not just today, but this season as a whole apart from the odd game or two. The players look bored, fans are bored. Our manager must have personality, this guy and his support act have none. Doesn't have the feeling similar to SG , just a complete lack of enthusiasm. Maybe it's how he is, but it doesn't fit in with fan connection or obviously player connection. Doesn't really have that pizzaz that we need to lift the place when it's going wrong

Ian Bone

I think the pole by necessity is too simple. I think on balance Gio should go, but I think the board and particularly Wilson are as culpable. I have zero faith in their vision or competence to find a suitable replacement. I also don’t believe they will be willing to adequately fund a major rebuild. So sadly I can’t see how this is resolved.

Scott Dickson

My biggest worry with Gio is he believes in the players, when they’ve proven time and time again they can’t deliver domestically. His recent press conference answer on January’s transfer window was alarming “we’ll see where we are the beginning of the window”. Compare it to that other lots manager who has already identified players and wants them in the day it opens. Why are we sleep walking into a full season of Davis/Jack/Arfield in the middle, lack of a proper first-choice GK, whilst allowing the likes of Kent and Morelos to run their deals down with seemingly no repercussions, even when they offer us next to nothing on the pitch. It’s starting to feel as desperate as the final days under Advocaat/McLeish, can you recall any other times where the mood has turned like this?

Gary Brown

Every single Rangers team has had to win ugly - but that isn't acceptable from Gio. Every single Rangers team has had a shock result at Ibrox, but again not acceptable from Gio. Rangers Family? Families protect & support each other, even more so in tough times. I can accept a poor performance, dropped points, even a defeat far better than I can accept Rangers fans booing their own players and conducting a witch-hunt on the manager.

Derek smith

They look like a team trying to get the manager sacked and when that happens there is no other outcome.

Jim Lamb

His football isn’t good enough for our club, but neither are the players. We are a very poor football team if truth be told. Whoever takes over must be backed by serious cash in order to improve the overall quality. Ross Wilson appointed Gio, so he has to go too. What a mess!

Gary Brown

Exactly! Who next? Who is going to want the job? Given that Gio has done better than Gerrard and is being hounded out.

Iain MacDougall

I love Gio, I wanted him here but for me the time is right to change. We are rudderless, leaderless both on and off the pitch, we have no discernible style of play. We are going backwards, quote quickly, with no real sense of direction. The horseshoe passing, the slow build ups and noticeable lack of penetration of the opposition, are becoming way too common. When was the last time we played someone into space and not to feet?? If we wait til the world cup and review, we are looking at the real possibility of the league being out of reach to us! So as I said we need to change and he needs to go, for us and for him!!

Robert Bradley

Question is though, does he pick the players or Wilson. Never seen a Dutch manager not bringing in boys from Holland, especially with Vos there also.Very strange.

Pedro M SVO

i like gio but after being at ibrox and seeing that his time is sadly up time for kevin thomson & barry ferguson or kenny miller to take over

LAURENCE MACRAE

No idea who we will get in or what the cost would be to sack Gio and his team but neither are reason enough to persist with this , absolutely brutal and I can’t see it getting any better, needs to go now.

Brian Rae

He should probably go now but It's all irrelevant as GVB isn't the only problem at the club. Unless Ross Wilson also leaves and the board has the motivation and more importantly finances to pay GVB and his staff off and then sufficiently back a new manager (for once), the same problems will remain. That squad of players is way past its sell-by date and many are a disgrace to the jersey.

LD

If the board weren't willing to spend money when we qualified for the Champions League, they're not going to spend money on a new management team.

James Cameron

Been saying it for months he and both Wilson have to go

Liam Johnson

Been saying since February he’s the wrong man for the job. The Europa run papered over the cracks for me but the swing in the league was unforgivable imo. I can’t stop thinking back now to him sitting in the stand for the LCF now and that makes me question his mettle. Get rid now, bring in Kevin Thomson to the WC and see how he goes or who’s available then. I just watched his interview there and actually felt sorry for him and thats a bad sign for any manager.

David J Leslie

Should have left after the Tim’s and Ajax debacles. Been clear since then the players don’t have a clue what they’re supposed to be doing. Then after our record loss at home in our history. Then after labouring to squeeze past a semi professional side in the cup. How bad does it have to get!?

John Mclevy

I will put my hand up thought Gio was a good choice last year and thought he would bring us success, for some reason domestically it has just not happened to go into last years winter break 6 points in front and then lose that lead by February something clearly is not right between management team and players - it has been clear for the last few months the players are not playing for Gio unfortunately that means he has to go we need to get someone else in to either galvanise and coach this set of players or go to the board and say we need real investment in January - I would also like to see Ross Wilson go as there are very few successes in the transfer windows over the last 2 years and we have had to rely on our ageing squad - my worry is the board will not act until it is all too late

Greig White

Alarm bells rang for me when we scraped a 1-0 and st Johnstone last season and he didn’t use a substitute even although we were dead on our feet. Baffling decisions, turgid football and a stubbornness that it’s obvious the players don’t agree with. However, if he is to stay I think now is the time that the board come out and support him, if not, they need to be decisive and get rid. Unfortunately I think we will drift rudderless until the season is dead.

David J Leslie

Gary you can’t list the pro’s without the cons. Oversaw a 12 point swing in the league, not in our favour. 2 absolute maulings by them of Murtyesque proportions. A first half collapse 3 days later that was supposed to be a ‘response performance’ Our biggest home loss in our entire history. Labouring past a semi professional side at home in the cup. And now scraping a last min point against a team who are also borderline semi professional. I will always hold a fond memory for my time in Seville that he gave us, but it’s clear that the squad have chucked it and lost all faith in his ideas. Forward thinking, progressive clubs would make a change now when there is still a realistic prospect of salvaging something from the season, not wait till we are 10 points behind and out of the cups. Unfortunately I don’t think that we will, and even if we did I don’t trust Wilson to find the right man to reinvigorate the players.

Fraser Black

I do think he now has to go as the body of evidence against him has just piled up far too much. However it will only matter if Wilson goes as well. It is criminal how this team has been allowed to go on & are now suffering (albeit injuries haven’t helped.)

John mclean

Although he should go now I think the players are more culpable so struggle to see what’s new manager will get out of them. These are more or less the same players who lost the semi to Hibs but also got to a euro final. Inconsistent so that means the majority should not be rangers players as a result. So althou Gio needs to go it will only result in a short term “new manager bounce” then back to where we started as the players are dross

Tom Smith

I reluctantly put he should leave immediately. Its not all his fault, and the players have to take a lot of responsibility. For me a clear out will naturally happen at the end of the season with contracts running out and get rid of deadwood. But I don't want this malaise to continue until then. We need to do something different with what we've got now. So far we've had no evidence on the pitch that that will happen. So maybe a new manager will bring a change of performance.

Derek Agnew

You'd love hindsight of what the succession plan is. After listening to the Ceri Bowley interview your asking yourself everything sounds great but we are not seeing and evidence of it. The one thing that stuck in my was the part about when you implement change you see a drop in levels. But this team have previous and the eye test isn't showing any evidence of change so heading one way.

David Scott

Players have chucked it under Gio , Napoli could be the final nail , Although i dont think this board have the balls to sack him they are a huge part of the problem and need cleaned out too, Can you honestly give Gio and Ross Wilson another transfer window full of free transfers and ex players coming back not for me , it was good but hasnt worked in the long run time to go Gio.

Jamie Gilchrist

If there was any possible sign of improvement then yes, i’d want him to stay until the WC…..but there is nothing to cling on to. Everything moving in the wrong direction, we all know where this ends, so we must act quickly and with decisiveness.

Craig Wilson

I am probably far too loyal to managers. I want them to be successful. I still want Gio to be successful But I think that ship has sailed mow and I really hope the board have replacements targeted cause I can't see him lasting. Maybe he'll survive the calendar year (given the WC is coming) but surely not the season

Mark Sheen

Should leave immediately and then gives us time to get someone else in and they have the World Cup to work with players

Andy Sladen

I think he should go and hate saying it but he isn’t the only issue. Ross Wilson has to go as well. Root and branch review needed criminal we didn’t build on 55!!

David

Wilson needs to leave first as this squad management has left us in this hole. I do not trust him to get the right appointment and once his replacement has been found the manager needs to be replaced. They’ve a lot of questions to answer at the AGM. It’s going to be a cluster fuck. All the players have regressed and I’m convinced the managers mindset has infected the players. All in all it’s rank rotten from top to bottom. It was a short 18 months ago we had Celtic on their knees. They said we’d move the club forward. Now look at us.

David Donaldson

Ross Wilson & Stewart Robertson should leave also. Scouting & fitness department needs to be reviewed asap.

Ross Baird

Going now lets new gaffer get in and work with players before WC break. Then gives them that break to get own ideas across, knowing exactly what there is to work with. However, I don’t have any confidence that the Board and Ross Wilson would be ready to move quickly.

David

Why is it embarrassing? It’s a perfectly legitimate question to ask. It’s THE discussion point amongst the support. The football is unfortunately chronic and shows no signs of improving. 73 !! Yes 73 aimless crossing into the box and 3 efforts on target. That’s Gio’s football. Wingers (who’re bang out of form) high and cross. It’s not all his fault, Wilson is the first place there, and both needs to be replaced to save a league season that could be over in no time.

Luke

Delaying the inevitable, clearly isn’t the guy that’s going to take the team forward.

Andrew Hind

We are going backwards quickly needs to go now

Alan Murdoch

Gio and Ross Wilson both need removed quickly.

Craig

The world cup break provides a unique opportunity for a new manager to have some time to work with the squad. However I suspect that Gio will be given until end of the season.

Eric Stewart

You have to look at who would replace GVB should he leave now or at the WC. Although the whiny scouser is now back on the market(👀) who is there that could realistically take this squad of players and challenge for the title? Forget Beale as he’s pledged his loyalty to QPR. The talent level & balance of the squad has issues that won’t be remedied just by changing the manager.

Sgems90

He should have left after the capitulation at Parkhead

Steve Clark

I had my doubts about Gio before he was even appointed,I didn’t get on board with the Gio band wagon the same way I got on board the Steven Gerrard express.i can’t put my finger on as to why but it was just a gut feeling based on his last season as a player where he worked his ticket.so I am coming from that position.i will always back a manager when he’s appointed but yesterday was the inevitable final straw.deep down we all had the gut feeling we were one bad result away from the support turning on him.as David said yesterday “we all know how this ends now” he’s done and the longer the board wait to make the inevitable decision the more damage he’s going to do.

Brian McLatchie

Thought I had logged into The Sun or the Daily Record there.

Craig Armstrong

He should be gone already but I think he'll be here until the world Cup although if we get a tanking in Naples then he may not see Saturday.

Stephen Strong

I'm gutted it hasn't worked out as we all hoped it would. But the players look unfit and disorganised and that is not the way a Rangers team should ever look. Gio and his coaching staff need replaced. I don't want Gerrard back though.

Graham Miller

Unless we have a replacement ready to step in immediately we should quietly start looking but wait till after CL games

Tom Edgar

Have lost patience with him. Players wander about, wondering what they should be doing and where they should be. Complete chaos. Gio always looks at a loss when things are not going well. Which recently is every game. Please just go. Now.

Andrew Whiteside

I never want to see us become one of those clubs who change manager every 5 mins. Look at Man Utd where Player recruitment has been the big problem rather than the Manager. I voted to give Gio the season as he either succeeds or it gives us time to organise for next season.

Andrew Stewart

He will get until Jan. Chance to get some players back from injury. But I do not see us buying anyone in the window. We play them in Jan and have the semi-final. Could be a grim month if we don't address our form

Ryan Stewart

Has to go now imo. He should have gone after the Liverpool embarrassment but maybe that’s just me. Yesterday’s result has been in the post for weeks and is a result that we could all see coming. If he stays we are just delaying the inevitable and will most likely fall further behind before the World Cup. A new manager coming in would hopefully give the players and fans an immediate lift, he would then have the break to properly put his stamp on the team, imprint his style and plan the transfer window. Gio should leave, Ross Wilson should be following him out the door as he is just as big if not a bigger reason for our current state than the manager.

Gavin Sullivan

I believe he needs to leave now. I like Gio but I can't see how he is going to inspire or rejuvenate the team to kick on. He seems so tactically inept which is surprising considering some of the tactical masterclasses he pulled off last season in Europe. The players are as much to blame as him though, some absolutely disgraceful performances. If some players are playing with injuries then it only goes to highlight the consistently shambolic transfer windows we've had that we dont have quality to replace them and that falls at Ross Wilsons door. Winning 55 has papered over some serious cracks that clearly still exist in our club.

Stephen Rankin

I’ve put leave immediately but he shouldn’t be the only one to go. Recruitment and squad retention is down to Ross Wilson and he’s the reason why we have an ageing squad who are constantly injured and have key players out of contract every season. Both should go.

David Kiltie

I don’t think you can accuse Gio of working his ticket as a player. He politely declined a new contract so we was sold in summer 2001. We couldn’t risk a rerun of the disaster with Laudrup a few years earlier. As far as there not being the same buy in to Gio as to Gerrard, we should remember that Gerrard’s tenure had many ups and downs. Had a poll like this been put forward at several points in Gerrard’s reign then many fans would have called for his dismissal. I take no pleasure at all in Gerrard’s recent dismissal but his record at Villa puts his managerial abilities in perspective. No one is denying that the team is in a bad place at present but many clubs have changed managers as often as you or I change our socks without experiencing long term improvement. The World Cup break 20 days from now is a natural watershed. Let’s see where we are then.

Colin Mathie

Get him gone, NOW! we're going nowhere under him.

William Alston

Needs to go now, wonder what the chairman thinks about where we are, suppose we will never know

Gary Brown

Yep the negatives are all valid & true David. However Gerrard lost what 9?12 points? before he left. Giving teams a goal start in every league game - we should've been outa sight. We were horsed out of the UCL with a whimper, struggled vs some goat herders from Uzbekistan and getting mugged in our UEL group. No one was shouting for his head! My main point is Gio has achieved more but is being judged more harshly. (something any potential manager will see & take notice of!). Gio is gone, just a matter of when now. The support are ensuring this. Gio's biggest fault is not style or tactics or results but simply not being Gerrard. The support acted like a dumped lover when SG left and are acting similarly to the next 'partner', not trusting & judging to a higher standard, hurting before being hurt, dumping before being dumped. Gio has experience SG does not and the bag full of medals to prove it. So easy to say sack him - but who next? Look at Arsenal, Man Utd, West Ham, Villa, Everton, Wolves, etc, etc revolving door on the manager's office, turmoil on the park. But they have the money to at least try to bankroll change - we do not! Fans surely realise that the very top class managers, like players, will not ply their trade in Scotland.

Calum Robertson

We're on a downward spiral with Gio. Hopefully we've already been looking for a replacement - that's Ross Wilson's job. Need to think how soon they can be brought on board, the support team and costs. Remember the other crowd waiting and waiting for Eddie Howe then grabbing an Aussie, who's done well for them. Hope we don't get a Murty or Caixinha!

Colin Mathie

This is the excuse they'll give for not sacking him, "Oh we cant afford to sack him"

Colin Mathie

Now we know how the Feyenoord fans felt watching their team under him.

James Kenny

We have major issues at practically every level at the club. An indecisive and out of touch Board, a completely useless M.D. stealing a wage. Gio and his team of helpers, a playing squad that gets managers the sack and then there's Ross Wilson. Gio should have been fired after the Liverpool humiliation, we're not going to beat Liverpool but that was a disgrace. The major problem will be who on earth can we get in to replace him.

Andrew Whiteside

Last night on Chief exec pod we were told anyone defending Gio does so out of desperation. I’m entitled to my opinion and I don’t believe the manager is the root cause of the problem. The lack of increase in player quality is. That is not an opinion formed in desperation. The majority of these players have never been good enough for us.

Billy McCormack

I still think Gio needs to go despite the fact Wilson and the board have let him down with one bad choice after another, but Gio has made our players worse and we've had more injuries that I can count so there's problems in that dressing room either with training or Medical under the leadership of Gio, so this rot has to stop somewhere.

Gary Brown

We have become that as of now and will continue to be. Fans see this happening down south and follow suit and it'll happen even quicker for the next manager who gets a couple of bad results.

Buddy

David martindale said he knew knew how do defend against us & we made 73 crosses as David said in his video review. Now if martindale knows how we play then it’s time to change things but it’s the same as Gerrard was , no plan b & late substitutions that make zero sense & don’t help. Why we taking strikers off in games that are getting no support to be replaced by another striker , were we hampered by FFP or will we actually see new faces in January? Cos we need it badly.

Garry kirkwood

Imo both can be correct. Manager isn’t good enough but also the quality of the squad isn’t good enough

Ralph Wiggum

He was lucky to survive Liverpool. Watching us under GVB is like playing 5s or 7s with your mates. It's all off the cuff, just looking for someone in space or if someone happens to make a run. There's zero patterns of play. There's clearly a complete lethargy running right through the squad. It's the old eye test, the fans know what a winning Rangers team looks like and this isn't it. Leipzig, Seville, Watford, Chelsea, Villa and even Dundee United have made the change this season. A realisation of something not working and making the required change. Watch us sleepwalk into a situation where the season becomes irretrievable. The boardroom needs a rocket up it's backside. The discussion now need to move onto the board IMO. Nobody wants to hear about GVB's approach anymore. What's he going to do, go and win in Naples? He's done. Finished. The same way you'd question why a struggling player is continuously being picked by the manager, we now need to focus on why the board are allowing a downward spiral under this manager to continue.

Gregg

The board should have explained the FFP (careful when you type that) thing to the fans at the time - may have bought some goodwill if that’s a reason for lack of at least one signing post CL qualification

Andrew Whiteside

True Garry. I’m just not at the point where I can say it’s the manager when the squad is not of his making. What will get him the sack is continually asking more of players than they are capable of. WhT I don’t like is being co-opted into group think by being told any defence of Gio is desperate.

James Cameron

Wilson and Gio should go now. I have huge concerns next summer that we will be back to competing for 2nd place in the league. Morelos ,Kent,McGregor,Davis, Arfield, Helander, and Jack all out of contract at the end of the season. To allow two of our most sellable assets to run down their contracts is due to the imcompetence of our so called DOF. Pay off Gio and his staff and that is massive chunk of our transfer budget gone. Mind you if the board were not spunking millions on vanity projects like Edminston House money which was needed to improve the team on the pitch we would be in a far better position next season. Who would take the Rangers job with no financial backing by the board?

David

I know there are some defending Gio, and I agree the like of Wilson and Robertson are prime suspects for this regression, but Gio’s style of football is horrendous. 73 crosses in one game. He plays with his wingers high and wide. We don’t have any in form so change it. If a manager throws on Alfie and Roofe to make a front three with Kent and Sakala on the wings that screams out desperation. There have been no sign of improvement, in fact, we’ve shown regression from a low level previously in the season. Ask yourself a question - will Gio get us out of this hole? If it’s a maybe or no then he has to go now, not wait even until the WC. It could be too late to claw back. With their goal difference any more lost points will require a three game swing and who in this league will take points of them. I give them credit, they treat sides with disdain and just batter them. And that’s Gio’s problem, now allowing the players to play. It’s slow and turgid and it won’t change.

Doug Young

KT would be my choice. Forget the foreign tactical "wizards" and give a good young Scottish manager who knows exactly what this club is about the chance to get back to basics and instill some fight into the lackadaisical players. I'm not totally Gio out as his players have let him down massively and the loss of Lawrence I think was pivotal. Kent, Tav and Morelos are playing junior level. Lundstram is off it. Arfield done. However, Gio keeps picking them and telling them to do the same old shite, so the buck stops somewhere. KT for me. With maybe a McCann as AM.

Euan Dover

I’ve been keen for him to go for a good while now, things were always going to catch up with him eventually. It’s like Lennon when he won a treble at Celtic, how much of a wave from the previous managers work was he really riding? Once he had it all in his own hands and had to implement his one system and management, it completely crashed. I think we are seeing similar here. Concerned at our ability to bring in a decent replacement though, don’t think I trust Wilson. Please, let it be someone who will have us playing at 100mph intensity!

Colin McConnell

Gio to leave with immediate effect and big K Thompson brought in to take us till the World Cup would be my preference. He would bring steel back in to the squad and would do a job for us domestically till we can find the right man for the job. As I said earlier never know KT might prove he’s that man

James Robb

Think the time has come, ive backed him for as long as i can but what we are seeing is pathetic. No style of play, players looking unfit and no real indication that things are going to change. Finishing the game with 4 strikers on the park yesterday tells you everything. He knows he's under serious pressure. Get someone in before the world cup and its like a mini pre season they'll have to give the second half of the season a real go and try and salvage something.

David Herd

Limping on just prolongs the agony. We likely won't win the league with a new manager but we definitely don't win it with this one. Only one decision to make.

David

Can I ask, do you feel Gio can change and put a run together that’ll match Celtic? They’re going to win most games. I can’t see us therefore Gio leaving is inevitable as well not win this league. Another couple of questions, what is Gio’s style of play and do you enjoy it?

David

It’s death by a thousand cuts if we keep going by Gio. Unfortunately the other sides in the league can’t cope with Celtic so we need to stop treating sides with respect and batter them.

Spoon

Your spot on. What I don’t buy into is that he is the primary issue although I accept in terms of simple numbers and options he is probably the only person who can be emptied. The bit I struggle with is the idea that the change will automatically produce different results with the same structure and resources. Yes it might work but equally so might getting the players to grow up and be professional, or so might buying in some quality etc. changing mid season is a huge gamble and what happens meantime ? Caretaker ? Temporary appointment ? If you go caretaker we saw what happened in the cup final, if you go temporary or permanent your picking up a guy who was sacked or a best not working. All of this might not matter to those who have decided to hate Gio but it’s not in my nature to swap one shit show for another that could be worse. Reading the comments here though even if he one the league folk would be waiting for his next mistake. The rhetoric is clear and it’s just s time thing now. I would like to hear one of the players asked about how they feel their performances have created this pressure.

Billy Forrester

Think he should go now as it’s inevitable this is going to happen and is prolonging the issue. A new manager with new fresh ideas and some funds to strengthen in January and get rid of some of the dead wood etc is the only way forward for us as this is like watching a slow execution

David

No point in Gio going if Ross Wilson is still here. We need a strong board to now get rid of both at the same time. The WC is the correct time to do this.

Spoon

Great post and some of the comment from our fan base is far short of what I had hoped we were as a collective, it’s more akin to what we see from the dark side. We used to be proud we didn’t sack people and had a limited number of managers now it’s ‘I don’t like it I want him gone’ without much thought to the implications or impact. People Don’t seem to get this type of decision has far reaching consequences, and it’s always easier to spend other people’s money….

Calum Downham

The Director of Football appoints the manager, the conversation should be wether we sack BOTH of them

Gary Brown

I'm not supporting Gio out of desperation. Everyone knows the squad needs refreshed and that takes time and money, time and money he hasn't had. We currently have a significant number of starters injured, others not at peak performance, a very packed fixture schedule and 3 games a week. After the LFC scudding it was 'all about the result' - which was got but then winning ugly wasnt good enough, same with the lge cup QF. Needs time to settle the ship, get through this rough period and move forward. Only 2 weeks ago everyone was happy enough vs Hearts & St Mirren with the style of play and results! Spoon you're 100% spot on.

Adam Copeland

Leave now. Put a caretaker that kows theclub in charge until World Cup. Such as Kevin Thomson. Appoint a successor once we break up. Keep caretaker there for continuity and possible full time coaching role. I like Gio. Nice guy and a great player. However, his tactics just do not work for our league. This has been apparent since January. He'd prob thrive in the Europa but we need league titles.

Adam Copeland

Just typed a similar thing. Maybe not manager immediately but caretaker with a view to be part of the coaching staff.

Greg

He needs to go now while the season is salvageable. Sadly the board will wait until the league is gone before doing anything.

Colin McL.

A new manager doesn’t solve injuries, recruitment and transfer budget - indeed, the latter is diminished with the sacking. I can’t believe some of the names being suggested (Kevin Thomson!?) I also think a little reality is needed when it comes to the level of the new appointment. Just an all-round bad situation.

Craig Lamont

Feel like I've constantly compared Gio's reign to Advocaat's last season and a half.... but that's exactly what this feels like. A squad that's downed tools and needs a new voice. Should the players get away with that, obviously not, but we can change the voice in the dressing room. Ideally for me it would be Sean Dyche, but I'm over 40 and just want Rangers to play 4-4-fucking-2.😂😂😂 Martindale is a decent option for me, quite comparable to Big Eck when he took over from Dick.

PR__92

It's very telling that no one has voted for him to stay out of over 1500 votes. I would let him go just now.For me midweek is just a defeat that's not happened yet it's the weekend im dreading.Aberdeen will give their all especially knowing our vulnerabilities and it wouldn't surprise me if we dropped more points. I'm a level headed rangers fan I always try to take emotion out of situations like this but I don't see a turning point and see us winning anything this season with this management/team. For a boards point of view to take the heat off them I would cut ties it would cost them but the place is turning toxic the scattergun is out and when the board come under fire that's when they pull the trigger.

Jamie Kirk

Who I think would be on our shortlist. In no particular order. Sean Dyche Kevin Thompson Neil McCann Rino Gattuso Ronald Koeman Aindrey Shevchenko Nuno Esperito Santos Steven Gerrard Michael Beale Ole Gunner Solsjkaer Kjell Knutsen Personally I would like Dyche

Joe Ward

Having calmed down I have reflected on the situation, I still think gio won't turn this around but the recruitment must also be put under the scope and wilson at that, this team of core players from the last 4 years have failed in all but 1 season domestically the diffrence that season I there was no fans. Its becoming clear as day the players don't have the fight or know how to break down a low block or play with the pressure of the fans when the gane isnt going there way and this is from gerrards first year. That same group of players that have let the club down after winter breaks is still there and it wouldn't surprise me that after the world cup the same thing won't happen again. Changing the manager won't change much if the same dof and players that give up are still there. There's also the fact we have lost almost our full scouting department with no replacements so is wilson buying the players after a match on fifa because he can't be fully scouting them with a small scouting department. The board have ignored the fans for too long and have charged us a fortune and make money from a few player sales to then not put the money back into the team is shocking, they care more about that museum which is a whole other issue and doing up the sky lounge to make more money or Sydney than realising there won't be a lot of fans wanting to watch this terrible team and performances the fact this will also be another year they mention the have a plan for disabled supporters with no actual evidence of change for the fans The agm will be interesting to see watching a bunch of millionaires lie there way through a meeting and pretend there is a plan in place and that everything is fine on the park whilst listening to fans who let's be clear as long as we are paying they couldn't give a toss about.

Gregg

Beale and Knutsen are the only ones I’d be keen for out of that list. Can’t help wonder why no one went for Dyche and he’s still out of work. McCann and Thomson don’t have any pedigree, gattuso would be a great shout but just took over Valencia

Jeffff96

Talk about a knee jerk reaction

Graham McCallum

Chose until World Cup as we’ve no chance of getting anyone in until then but have them lined up to take over immediately

David

This isn’t a knee jerk reaction. I know many, including myself, who’ve thought this was on the cards. I really wanted him to succeed but the Feynoord fans warned us and much of what they said has come true.

Gary Brown

Exactly Colin👏 Injuries, and player refreshing restricted by available budget are the major short and long term issues. Plenty shouting to get Gio out but no thought to replace him. The names aired? The experienced ones are not going to take it and the others are way too inexperienced to be given the chance.

Graeme Burns

He has been hampered by injuries but there isn’t a coherent plan / method for matches. Take a view come the World Cup; then be prepared to act quickly if he stays and if performances do not improve.

Andrew Whiteside

Absolutely agree, with this amount of discord when nothing has been won or lost and with the apparent lack of and injuries to first team players we are heading for a shark throwing contest down Copland road. I hope Leaders and those with a Voice in the fan base present a balanced approach rather than heaping all of the problems on one man. If we had the money to replace. Arfield, McGregor and Davis no chance do we resign. The amount of money sitting on the treatment table with Jack, Helander, Hagi, Soutter, Lawrence and until recently Roofe and Morelos and now Goldson we can’t afford to replace them unlike the old days and no team can cope with 7 or 8 starters out long term. Liverpool folded without Van Dyke, Matip and Gomez and that’s Liverpool Ffs. Then we throw in Losses during Covid and if to be believed 20m spent on the stadium. I would think after the money raised (by Gio) through Europa and champs league plus the player sales we have a war chest to replace outgoing players at the end of the year. They have to be upgrades not like for like or projects. I want to hear a full throated endorsement of the manager and that he will be backed to build the team he wants. If not they are hiding behind him.

mark wyper

Get a new manager in soon as, nothing is going to change in our performances that's for all to see, that will give the new manager 4 weeks till the world cup starts and maybe he can get a reaction from the players . And then he will have the whole period the world cup is on to actually work on things , and we take it from there because keeping things as they are will not end well .

Graeme Burns

If the away goal rule still existed and Braga knocked us out in the EL QFs last season is GVB still the manager today? Too much credit given for the European stuff.

Gregg

But it didn’t - wild take. We’ve reached 5 European finals in our history and the gap has never been as wide between the bigger countries and ourselves. I think he should go but this is a petty take

Spoon

There’s no way in the world we appoint Martindale, genuine question do you want to see us play like Livingston ? You could argue he does more with ‘better’ player but that’s a logic jump and based on absolutely no evidence.

Spoon

The fact people want Martindale who plays an even worse brand of football or are talking about a return for SG gives me the fear and makes you wonder what they actually expect to happen, it’s not based in reality.

James McKenzie

The start of last season (apparently) showed that we were happy enough enduring several turgid performances under Gerrard, so long as Celtic were performing even worse. The fact is they are operating above their usual level and this is amplifying the reaction every time. I would hope that at least one of Wilson/Gio would be reviewed after the world cup because the performances are failing the eye test, but there should still be some consideration for the target being tougher than usual (for now).

Craig Lamont

I think you do a disservice to the job he's done to think at a different club he plays the exact same brand of football. There's no "evidence" any foreign manager who hasn't been involved in our goldfish bowl would do a better job.

Dougie

Didn’t know GVBs mum was a subscriber 👏😎

Graeme Burns

If Harvey Price had scored to make it 2-0 rather than hit the bar in the cup semi would GVB still be manager? If Borre had shanked his shot wide and we won the EL 1-0 then is GVB manager for the next 5 years no questions asked?

Gregg

It’s hardly the same thing - you’re saying if the rules of the game were different which just comes across as petty. If there were no away goals in 72 - think the rules re counting in extra time changed benefiting us too - then we’d have been out. Criticise the manager - no qualms with that - but this is a very weird take.

Jack

Needs to go while we’re still in with a shout of the league. He isn’t going to turn this round. The European run as brilliant as it was covered up a lot of issues we had domestically. We got the initial bounce when he first came in then after that were poor and we haven’t really got better since.

KMS

i'm very surprised the H&H podders haven't got together to do a round table kind of discussion/debate on all things Gio and the club, would be good too hear the various opinions, but also good content

Andy Steven

So we sack Gio. Then what? I am not sure if anyone could get these players playing to the high standard of football we all want to see. Under SG we were dreadful to watch at times and no better than the current garbage we are watching.. The common denominator is that it is the same core of players who have been playing over a few years, some under 5 Rangers managers. Just maybe it's not Gio that is the big problem, which is why I suggest that it's unlikely any manager is going to make them in to what we would like to imagine. I certainly hope I am proven wrong if/when Gio does go.

Jock Paterson

He needs to go now, before the season gets written off. Wilson has to go too, he’s sanctioned both the Gio appointment and player movement. Ironically I think it’s not getting rid of players that is a large part of the issue.

KMS

I guess so, I think he's a busted flush personally, the tactics, the style of football, the power to motivate, but I was thinking something interactive on a video platform with chat, where patrons can contribute?, We may have the same views but talking about it might be therapeutic, might be of use It's probably more to do with having PTSD from the champions league games, we're basically paying £150 to watch something we love get absolutely f*cked and ridiculed by other folk, Freud would have a field day!

Heart and Hand

That’s a cracking idea actually. Things have been a bit wild with so many games but with WC coming up a few shows like that would be good.

John Palmer

All well and good saying he should go but who do we replace him with? Beale is carving his own path in the English Championship so he's out. So who do we replace him with that'll turn this team into a Title Winning outfit come the end of the Season? When Gerrard jump ship we had some sort of clue who we could get, right now I can't think of anyone who'd take GIO's place and or want to as there seems to be more than the Gaffer failing to get a tune out of his players.

Graeme Law

I doubt Beale would come with zero funds to spend, it's one of the reasons Gerrard left in the first place. The board needs a kick up the arse, it's like their happy at the rattlers leaving us for dust

Pedro

His domestic form has been horrible. From throwing a way the league last season, the humiliations to celtc...the terrible domestic form this season as well as the fact we already 4 points behind in October. He isn't able to turn it around so must go.

Russell Jones

For me, Gio has to be given some time, and he has earned that time. Saturday was worrying, and very difficult to watch, but the stable base he began with has never been there due to injuries. If Goldson and Davies were both fit, and King was able to deputise for Tav, I don't think we would be struggling as much. We are missing someone more industrious in midfield, the blend is not right in there, but again, if Kamara is fit and available he plays in Saturday's team, and we would have been much better. He is bang out of form, but he is a top player and needs to be given the opportunity to play through this bad spell.

David

I cant see us turning this form around, ive seen people mention injuries which is fair but out of the injuries we have probably only goldson and lawrence would come in which tells you everything about the recruitment and any manager we bring in is a risk but doesnt mean we shouldn’t do it

Gordon Watkins

I don't like calling for a managers head. But no one should survive a 1-7 scoreline at Ibrox, regardless of the quality of the opposition. And I think we have to act now while we still have a season to claw back. Think it's a matter of when not if now. The big question is, who replaces him?

Paul Dunnachie

For some combination of reasons he hasn’t been able to field the team he tried to build over the summer… I’m for a bit more time for the manager. Injuries taking players out of the picture, or meaning that players are soldiering on are both having an impact. Can’t ignore this feature that defeats tend to be spectacular though, and it doesn’t speak well of the players or the manager. The chemistry is all wrong just now.

Del Thomson

Remove him now, get his replacement in and they have time during the world cup to get their ideas across. We're only going to go one way with gio unfortunately

John McMillan

He had to go now for me. Like you've said, players don't look like they buy in. I also don't personally believe he'll be able to turn it around. I just don't see any evidence to suggest otherwise. Adams tactics reset pod the other day nailed it for me... You can't see what this teams style is. It's all the worst bits of our play since we came back up to the top flight coupled with a lack of belief and desire.

Andy Elliot

I think the DoF and players are as much to blame as Gio but he is in the hot seat and needs to be accountable for the turgid, uninspiring performances. Either (1) he has no idea how he wants his team to play (2) he is unable to communicate effectively with the team or (3) the players are not listening / no longer care. Either way it’s broken and we need a shift in belief and momentum. The football we are watching is awful, the lack of courage and belief in the team is shocking, capitulating when a game turns against us is a worrying trend. Personally I’d be happy for the DoF and manager to go now, both recruitment as well as coaching have to improve.

Robbie McCarroll

Pretty damming not much way back from that I would say.

Robert glen

He should have went after the performance at Celtic park then he should have went after Liverpool and he definitely should be gone now but this board are going to wait till this season is irretrievably
