Come on Alex, the substitution leaving King pretty much as “the defence” was utter mind-boggling negligence from a manager who really seems to have lost the plot. I’ve been a huge Gio fan, but the evidence on the park suggests his time is up.

Alan Ryder

Great conversation guys. Alex is a breath of fresh air amid all the madness.

Norm

Morelos has contributed big time when he's felt like it but he has never been a team player, Morelos is all about Morelos.

Really interesting opening chat. Very enjoyable to have the back of forth in such a constructive manner. And there is plenty of scope for this to be expanded on. I don't think Gio is the man to take us forward, the scenario seems very similar to what we heard at Feyenoord, but this is not solely his fault. A lot of the players have been a disgrace - Poundland Chelsea summed up a number perfectly - and Ross Wilson needs chased (imo).

Can we please stop with this narrative Tavernier is injured. He himself has said he isn’t injured, the manager has said he isn’t injured. He played 90 mins against Dundee in the cup, if he was injured he would have been rested. He finished the game against Aberdeen when we are comfortable, if he was injured he would have been brought off. Can we stop making excuses for a sub-par captain putting in sub-par performances.

Bob MacCallum

Well said, Jonathan. If only we had a promising young Polish right-back to take over.....

Gregg

The promising young polish right back - he’s 20 btw - has played 69 minutes for the team 8th in the polish league and is now predominantly playing in their b team. For some context.

Scott Watson

I think we'd have seen King play some games at right back if we had enough cover at centre back to move him out of there

Rob Cunninghame

Majority of league winners are usually the biggest spenders and unfortunately that mob are miles ahead of us atm. Don’t know if it’s luck or if it’s good scouting on there part but majority of the players they have signed have hit the ground running. Our recruitment has been a shambles for about 3 seasons

Scott Watson

Thank you gentlemen, as always this was a pod full of interesting discussions I've said it before but it's more welcome than ever at times like this - the detail, range of perspectives and general rationality you bring to the topics that everyone else is talking about (and some they're not) is different class Kev does indeed often predict a draw after a disappointment, I'll dig out some stats on it, but I think it's never failed to coincidence with a win so here's hoping...

Scott Watson

Part of that goes hand in hand - you take less risks and get products at a more advanced stage if you spend more I do think that's only part of the story though - hindsight 20/20 and all but the more time passes, the more it looks that keeping the core squad together for 20/21 and 21/22 has really hampered our room for maneuver in rejuvenating the squad

John Davidson

Great pod as always guys. Would be curious over whether Alex personally thinks Gio should stay or go. I tend to agree that it would be unsurprising if he saw out the season - but I think he should be replaced now.

Great initial discussion, this isn’t a dig as I think the comment made by Steven was balanced and fair but he listed a number of ways the players have let the club / fans down, rightly suggested they are turning it on and off when it suits which has been going on when Gerrard was here, highlighted the individual errors in the defensive shambles for the goals then still landed on its Gios fault. I genuinely wonder what people want him to do with this team. Alex correctly highlights the number of players who are (or should be) moving, I’m starting to think that them getting to get the manager sacked is even more unthinkable. Various plodders have used the concept ‘of you do the same things you will get he same results’ as a Ros to best Gio with, when do we also apply that to this same bunch of players ? When does it become obvious that if we use the same guys who have shown over years and hundred of games they will have spells like this moping about feeling sorry for themselves we will get these periods of abject performances from them ? I’m clearly a Gio apologist but it’s actually not about him as a manager I feel sorry for whoever has to mangabey this core mob who have hung around getting well paid and over praised but under delivering over the piece. Huge decision from the board required, I suspect there remains no appetite to remove him and the fan clamour is just noise that give players an excuse to be unsettled it’s not something that will really impact them. If anyone thinks we don’t get him sacked we riot I think it’s the type of behaviour we laugh at and mock from others. Appreciate this may not be a widely held or popular view. Gents, really enjoyed the discussion great and veryfair points made across the board.

Spoon

Went early, get rid of Morelos. Bad attitude and overall has failed to live up to his full potential through poor discipline, poor fitness and huffs. It’s no surprise nobody is battering down our door for him or Kent or the offers peaked then dried up after Botha purple patch. Leeds probably shrewdly offered exactly what he was worth at his peak on hindsight.

Gordon Black

This squad, even at full strength, with Gio in charge will not beat them in the league this season. The best we've got to look forward to is maybe a cup and 15+ points behind them at the end of the season

CJT

Thanks Genrs, much more balanced discussion than I've heard elsewhere of late. Enjoyed it and the always interesting look at the next game. Can't say I pay particular attention to anyone else in this league between us playing them. Let's me know what yo look out for.

Dougie Jones

Have to agree with Alex that Gio at the very least should stay for these two games. Regarding how we're doing relative to them, I do think luck is a huge factor. Postecoglou has worked out very well for them so far but his record before joining them still meant it was a gamble. As I say, it's worked out well for them, so far. I'm genuinely torn on whether the board should make a change. Such a strange situation with guys like Lundstram who we rightly lauded as an absolute warrior not so long ago.

David A

Great show lads,a very fair perspective

Angus Mackay

Alex's Chelsea comparison is a very interesting one. If we're being honest, apart from one season we've witnessed what we're currently seeing again and again. The difference between us and Chelsea is that we simply can't afford to fire managers once a year (I don't even know if they can now that they no longer have access to the bank of Russia). What Arsenal did with Arteta was very wise and they're now reaping the rewards. We need to do the same and focus on the character as well as the skills of the midfield players and goalie that we need to bring in in the next six months.

Really enjoyed listening to this . I think the board were already aware of the deficiencies within the squad, perhaps they feel Giovanni is owed the duty to renew the character of the team in his own image. Watching the press conference yesterday , I got the distinct impression from the captain that there is a hope he is moved on. Was almost non committal on whether the players wanted to win for him. Still not seen a goal celebration with the management team this year. Giovanni did get emotional when he said that to let the fans and club down hurts him because he loves Rangers. He took us to a European final, won honours with distinction as a player, generating income beyond our dreams, and took the Scottish cup back to ibrox. After listening to the pod. I want to give Giovanni the time to empty these parasite players from the shirt.

Doug Young

This is the great thing about H&H. I don't do Twitter, FF anymore as I couldn't hack the slavering muppetry. Listening and reading over the past few weeks have really got me thinking beyond "this is shite, get a new manager". More and more I believe this is a squad with a rotten core and I don't know who would get a tune out of them. They take the plaudits, dodge the criticism with platitudes and pretend they care about this club like we do. I'm done with them. So much as even thinking Gio might care more about the Rangers than many of the players. Still no idea where that leaves us or my thinking. Great pod, guys. Lots to agree and disagree with. And no slavering. Cheers

Gordon Price

Great listen as always chaps 👌

Scott Watson

Better get my score recorded so Kev doesn't think I'm at it 😂 Going 3-0. Got the feeling we might get one of these games where we see enough good stuff that we should be happy but it just leaves us scratching our heads about inconsistency Also, Mr. Steven Harrigan's references on this season's previews now cover everything from tank warfare and recruitment criteria for special forces all the way to the King's English definition of Irony, Jurassic Park and hounding supply teachers via Robbie Neilson's comb and Slater Menswear jackets. Truly we are spoiled to have a renaissance man in our midst 😃

Pedro

Interesting pod guys. Sadly spot on Stephen. It's been screaming us in the face that Gio isn't up to it and there's a clear pattern of being unable to compete domestically to win the league. St.Johnstone was as bad as it get, despite some blocked shots in the first 20 mins. Two weeks ago when everyone was saying these performances would clealry bring even more bad results, we heard ' not gonna criticize something that hasn't happened'. It has, and is happening. two weeks and 5 dropped points dropped later we're getting even worse. It's a shame to see where this is now with Gio.

Spoon

Great post, the baying mob don’t seem keen on patience and loyalty to the medium / long term plan however and some of the personal language being used about the manager is dreadful. The idea we will recruit and sack a full back room team of coaches and all the other roles every 12 months if they don’t win the league strikes me as petulant and unrealistic but we keep hearing ‘that’s how it is at rangers’ as if that’s ok. We saw what the free spending years did to us and all that loyalty and realism from ‘the journey’ seems to have gone which is strange as you would have thought we would have realised everything good takes time to build. Gio might well not be the man, I’m just not convinced he is the main problem right now.
