David Innes

Feels like we’re right back to where we started before Gerrard was appointed. Going to be in a fight for 3rd at this rate

Allan

The injuries are just masking the reality.

Callum Dinnen

Bar the 55 season and the first half of 19/20 this is the same shit we've seen since Gerrard took over. The manager probably needs to go but there needs to be a clear out of the playing squad as well, otherwise we'll be calling for the next manager's head in 12 months time when we mysteriously drop more points with slow, dreadful side to side stuff and aimless crossing.

Simon Botterill

Gio is not fit for Rangers in Scottish football, he has no idea or does not want to engage with what is required, which is to be frank going to cross some lines in some books. He is a decent man who will go on to have managerial career with a mixture of success and failure at some good teams/The Netherlands. The club is riddled with injuries but it's a collective effort. Look at Napoli away, their subs are engaged in the effort. Who is managing the tempo, the officials, the players, banning crosses in the air (someone stop it). Only positive is Clancy proven live with VAR the cheat he is (I know that sits uncomfortable with some but there lies an issue that must be addressed on and off the pitch if we are to change our attitude of being passive and victims).

mark wyper

The noticeable moment for me that it is probably the end for gio is when he went straight up the tunnel after shaking the st mirren managers hand , usually he goes onto the pitch and shakes the hands of everyone on the park including the officials , that's not like him .

John Johnston

Time for the board to do what is required and the priority has to be a new manager in place by new year.

Martin Davies

We could all have written the match report before the game. Rangers with loads of possession, but no real attempts on goal. Cross after cross after cross. No threat from corners. St Mirren score first from set play. Player off with an injury. Clancy books Morelos and (almost) denies Rangers a penalty

David Innes

We had the opportunity to build from a position of strength at the end of the 55 season and we blew it. Massive overhaul required now

Callum Dinnen

I think the defeat to Malmö is the most catastrophic since the 6-2 game under Advocaat. It completely tied our hands financially as far as further investment was concerned.

Rod

We could have been off to Sydney next week as well, can you imagine. 😬

David Clapperton

Couldn’t agree more….we should be seriously pissed off, certainly more than we are but it’s just an apathy and I fuckn hate that they’ve made it like this. Just fuck off.

mark wyper

That's probably myself hoping to find something that means the end for gio

Martin Davies

On Morelos, he shows all the hallmarks of a guy who will sign a lucrative deal to semi retire in China or the Middle East, and retire completely at the age of 30.

Lee

He does have to go. Wilson should be under serious review as well, that squad has hardly any sellable assets for this player trading. But I think it's massively important for us all to stop romanticising the 55 squad. The same core squad from 2018, this shit has been more common than being domestically dominant.

David Bold

That was hopefully the last time I need to see that complete fraud Morelos in a Rangers jersey. Breaks my heart when I hear his name mentioned in the same sentence as Boyd etc. Boyd literally won trophies on his own for Rangers. The reliance on Morelos as our main striker and saviour has resulted in about 36 Celtic trebles. There can be zero excuses in terms of injuries. Most of the injuries were well documented during the summer window. GVB out. RW out.

Paul Coulter

I really wish the players and manager listened to h@h as they might improve or at least then know what to do. Respect to kent today 4 trying so hard

Robert White

Stuck on the sidelines literally. Every time he came inside, danger happened. Horseshit horseshoe has killed Kent.

Spoon

We are also likely to in the same turnover of management team every year or so get worse and worse candidates until there a plan to address the squad and recruitment.

Ewan Christie

I’m sorry, but what exactly are we waiting on by keeping GVB in charge?

Jimmy Price

I agree with Tess, Barasic is a coward! I’ve thought he was for ages... but he’s not the only one.

Norm

Morelos, Kamara and Lundstram were a disgrace today

Jimmy Price

“Clancy, a man who looks like a concerned rodent”!! 😂😂🤣🤣

Neil Wilson

I think Gio will be sacked in the next few days, especially with the AGM shortly. If they don't they'll have major heat. The team needs a refresh and we need to start building the team for 56. We're still living on the fumes of the 55 squad. The World Cup window is an ideal opportunity to bring in a new management team and 4 or 5 players with them officially being registered on 1st January. Also a chance to move a few players on. Even just to ease the wage bill.

David Hanlon

The manager has to go. The League is over. Get someone else in to start again.

Chris Pryde

I’m not going to talk about the game. Want to ask why Colin thanks David saying “thank you my van” 😂

Dougie

👏👏👏 Well done guys. Great to hear the big man back on H&H. Welcome back Tess 👍🏻👍🏻

Spoon

David, nothing you said was unreasonable, I ageee with 99% of your workings but perhaps come to a slightly different conclusion. I have bored people senseless with this so won’t labour it but in essence your 100% right that if you do the same things you get the same results. Where I perhaps see things differently from others is who is doing the same things. I don’t believe Gio is doing the same things beyond being stuck with the same players. Podders rightly identifying player application, mentality and ability to work things out as issues that have been here since SG. You rightly discuss the inability of the players to stick to the initial (productive, positive) game plan and then deciding themselves to revert to the negative, scared passing etc my big issue is that putting out the same players, who don’t listen, don’t have the mentality and can’t football problem solve or even take on instruction we will continue to get the same results regardless of manager. Expecting different from Kent, Morelos, Kamara, Arfield, Tav, Borna etc when they have shown over many many years what their base game will always revert to. They aren’t good enough, Kent isn’t prolific, Morelos isn’t disciplined or able to stay professionally fit that’s been there since day dot but fans have opted to take purple patches or the odd goal as proof it will change. I part I do fully accept the change that will be made given the froth around him and his team and I do accept the argument that regardless of the factors a change is needed to try and get more out of what we have but some realism is needed and given how many we could offload I personally would rather see him get a crack without of the baggage he has had to carry. This squad to my mind caused SG to jump before they got him sacked, they have now managed to derail a change in style by making sure through their own efforts it isn’t working. It’s a disgrace and I have no idea how any new player beds in when the core of this team is so rotten. Wright, Tillman, Sands even King all being slated by elements of the support for their own game when the reality is those who are around them have a huge impact on how they can play or impress. The squad is tired, it’s been tired for two seasons. Underperforming players have been kept on blind faith and it’s come back to haunt us. Tactics won’t save us, a management change won’t save us(for long) although it might get a bounce but until those well past their sell by date or those who simply aren’t good enough consistently are moved on or there are options to rotate them out in the squad this is what we will get. We have been allowing the same players to do the same things with different managers, we will get the same if we continue with them. Great pod and great to hear Tess again.

Heart and Hand

Absolutely. A lot of those players need binned too. But I haven’t seen anything domestically to suggest GVB will be a league-winner here. Clearly not a bad manager but not what we need.

Ross Whitehead

David I was stunned when you said the players now have 3 weeks off. THREE WEEKS!!! I thought they'd maybe have a week off and then it would be an opportunity to work on the training pitch to rectify some of the glaring issues we have. We're doomed!!!

Ross Whitehead

Gio was a cup manager in the Netherlands who go lucky to win a league title. He is not and never will be good enough to win the title in Scotland or anywhere else for that matter.

Spoon

David, I take your point but again I would ask if that’s because he can’t do tactics or motivation or we have a squad that can’t do what why are told (core group not all) and can’t motivate themselves. If your star striker is in the huff and unfit or your tricky winger can’t beat a man and score goals but you have little other quality to bring in as they are injured or don’t exist in the squad then what is the root of the problem ? I pretty much agree with we should be angry and all the other stuff you say I just think it’s directed at the wrong people. If we can come out set up to create chances but the only thing that chsnges is the players stop doing it then I’m at a loss to see how any guy on the sideline changes it. We heard this same issue at times from SG where he told us that he set them up a certain way but is at a loss to why we stopped doing what had been told or he had to ‘reset’ them at half time, we have been doing this same thing with the group for years and bar once fell short year on year. We have had guys out injured year on year, we have had form fall off a cliff for the same players mid season year on year. We are indeed doing the same thing, relying on players who are letting us down then giving them a pass when they turn in the odd moment (usually europe). Almost all of the recent aberration performances are of the same type and tones as the one Gio watched from the stand when we lost a cup final to Hibs. He didn’t create this mess and he has shown that when they give him what they are capable of the can win games I cannot get on board with the torches and pitchfork brigade. I can however accept that something had to give and it’s probably him and his team. Maybe we are just in a shit storm trifecta of squad, management and board failure but I suspect it’s not a quick fix and there are absolutely no guarantees we change the thing lots want to and it solves the issue either short, Medium or long term.

Heart and Hand

Had we even seen a playing style etc I’d lean other way. Tactically he is good in one-off matches but in terms of an overall structure, there’s not enough.

Ross McLaren

Gio along with Wilson must go, change is desperately needed. I must admit I did genuinely laugh at yesterdays daily update when I heard Colin’s 3-0 prediction. What we seen today was always going to happen - sign of the times when the feeling of anger has gone as it is just expected now.

Spoon

I don’t buy that but respect your opinion, his style is what we see when they went out the other dross is what the revert to. I also can’t buy you win a league by luck and just were just fortunate over a season but I hear that a lot. The idea of cup managers to me is just people who have inconsistent squads and can at times unlock the best from lower quality players, league wins are a different thing and he has done that although to hear some it was by default. I think the tactics guy cover what the style is supposed to be pretty well, the fact we have a team who for a variety of reasons can’t consistently execute it is the bigger issue. I go back to the empirical evidence that spans SG and Gio that even our star players have never been good enough consistently enough and it’s come home to roost, folk now just can’t see some of them for what they are and wouldn’t sign them if it was champ manager based on their overall stats ! Enjoy the discussion but respectfully agree to disagree on those points!

Doug Young

There's always going to be pros and cons to sacking him. The players are awful, so my argument is why does he keep picking them? They know whatever pish they produce, they are still on the team sheet. If we're going to.get beat by St Johnstone why not let the overpaid dross get splinters in their arses and play some youngsters. What's the difference? Just pathetic from all involved.

Martin Davies

3 weeks off to sit on the couch watching the world cup with the Just Eat app, a tube of Pringles and a bag of cans. I can only imagine the nick of Alfredo coming back to training.

Spoon

He keeps picking them as he has nobody else to pick, and when one guy comes back from injury that might allow changes another drops out. We literally have nobody to play in defence or even much in terms of senior players to give variety in any position. I suspect he also coaches them and sees improvements in training that merit them getting picked, but come game day we start bright, don’t score then they revert to doing the squad default and he’s tearing his hair out same as us. He’s not beyond criticism at all and I don’t agree with every sub or team selection but I’m not sure there’s an abundance of options and their is definitely a collective fragility regardless of who plays. I don’t buy there’s no style or plan though and it’s definitely not aimless crossing as some would have you believe that’s an in game default from players to pretend they are trying really hard. Bravery comes front the guys who the fans love To hate like Matondo and Wright who at least drive at goal and try things , usually to be booed and berated but their only flaws are being young and possibly lacking a bit of quality they don’t hide or play safe usually like our big stars.

Douglas Hannah

If he is still in a job tommorow it will show this board up for what they are.

David Millar

You’re correct, but we didn’t have the money to do it and Gerrard demanded all players he wanted to keep we’re kept and he was allowed his way.

David Millar

I’ve looked at the video of their goal a fair few times. Can anyone tell me what Barasic is doing because it’s got me completely bewildered. Oh for full backs who could defend.

Heart and Hand

His style then is to have lots of possession and not do much with it. It’s not new and it’s not just this season. If you play dull football you need to win and sadly he doesn’t do it enough.

Spoon

That’s the crux David, I don’t think the style is to do nothing with it I think the limited players we have don’t do anything with it, they don’t shoot, they play safe and they don’t show bravery but what I don’t believe is that’s his instructions or style. Your right they don’t play good football enough but given this group have done similar over two managers it’s on them for me.

Spoon

I don’t think it’s coincidence that with better more creative players like Hagi, Roofe or this season Lawrence in the team we saw more intent and drive, under investment in real quality is the issue here for me coupled with a core group who are mentally broken or past their prime.

Heart and Hand

I do agree a lot of the players need emptied but I still haven’t seen enough from Gio to suggest he’s the man to be given new ones.

Spoon

I hear you and i guess you can make the argument either way. I would rather avoid a revolving shit show of money haemorrhaging revolving management teams especially while just getting financially stable. All money for me should be focused on team improvement and I am still of the mind that with less injuries and better quality in then he has shown he can set up a team and adapt. Time will tell but I won’t be looking out my pitchfork or torches just yet and would be looking at the end of the season for any upheaval if that’s what ultimately happens. I just don’t get the bloodlust, it’s alien to me. I totally get that others don’t see it, I think many however wouldn’t acknowledge anything good even if it was there! It’s a sliding doors moment for me and it could go a number of ways positive or negative. I’m just not really that type of gambler, if someone outlined a contingency plan or gave an indication that there even is a plan it might be different but I’m not one to jump into the unknown. Appreciate the conversation but I suspect no minds have been changed !

Colin

I’m an optimist tbf or at least I try to be with Rangers. Getting more difficult though.

Doug Young

Oh, I don't know, Spoon. I change my mind every time I watch the team and then again when I read your posts. 😁 Seriously, though, I don't know what the answer is. His tactical nous we lauded in Europe last year was blown away by CL this year. I'm not sure we're seeing anything different domestically. That may be due to his intransigence from a style perspective or from the fact the players aren't capable. The bottom line is a good manager looks at what he has available and adjusts the approach accordingly. He doesn't say "this is how we play" and then expect the players to follow that when they have proved time and time again that they aren't able to. There's the rub and I suspect what David is referring to. There are no signs at all that Gio can a) change his approach to suit the players at his disposal or b) coach the players he has to play his style. That has become clearer and clearer in the last 11 months.

Spoon

Which I would accept if he had a consistent full squad and I believed he was getting their best week in week out. The players we have are capable when it suits them, capable of individual good play and capable of it as a team. Some are happy to write off all the good results as random while focusing on those where it’s laboured. Again my issue is not that it’s a problem it clearly absolutely is, what I’m seeing however is when players play up, give their best and stick to the plan we play well and take scalps, when they don’t we wallow and labour in dire football. The common element isn’t the style or tactics or set up being wrong it’s a group who decide when and where they will get with the program. I’m not explaining it well and it sounds like I’m pro Gio I’m actually pro listening to whoever is the manager and letting him fail on his merits not their application or attitudes.

Leslie Hibbert

Great to hear from Tess again, clancy is a rhat cheat, utter vermin. Scum.

David Campbell

Scunnered gifting them another league title that's 55 plays 53 after this season. Wakey wakey Rangers.

Maca82

Awful day been too many of those and we all know what’s needed, injuries or not St J, Livingston or St Mirren would kill for our worries squad wise. Also to round out the day anyone know if a ban on follow follow is for good? Booted and no idea why 😂

Cal macleod

Not even surprised anymore , we’ll lose this league by 20+ points

George Baxter

Maca82, I was banned after the Braga game for saying ff was full of moaners and I'm still banned

Gary Shaw

Genuinely can’t remember watching a Rangers side that most of the starting 11 can barely do the basics….some of the passing from Sands,Lundstram,Morelos and Tillman defied logic at times…And I don’t give a shit what age King is but the error for the goal and the one in the first half were he literally stood and let the ball go by him only for Tav to clear is criminal, that’s stuff,as a defender you learn when you’re about 8….

Gary Shaw

Could anyone shed any light on why Lowry can’t even get in the squad?…..we’re scraping the barrel for players and have very little creativity….Why can he be put on the bench and get on against Ajax but nowhere to be seen in big standard league games??

Gary Shaw

Bog standard 😂

AGS

Tess you’re one of the good ones!

Colin Kerr

Unless there is wholesale change in that squad they will get the next manager the sack as well ,there are too many imposters in the squad .Gio is a nice guy but his time is up .

Doug Young

I think I saw someone in another comment on H&H say that he has training and attitude issues?

Greg

He didn't get lucky, feyenoord deserved the title.

Alex Dingwall

Good to hear Tess being back. 👍

Gary Shaw

I heard similar Doug…still doesn’t explain why he gets 10 minutes against Ajax though unless that was his punishment 😃

Spoon

I agree but seen others say he won it by default or luck

Scott Macrae

1-1 defeat 😂 feels like it!

Scott Macrae

Some of the worst trainers turn it on for actual matches. Also, the way the first team players are performing they’d hardly be pulling up trees in the B team with their current form.

Al-WATP

Great show as always guys - very worrying times for our club - I know 99.999% of us are of the view that the manager needs to go….. but David, Tess and Colin do any of you honestly believe this board will make that decision during this World Cup break? I’ve got this terrible feeling they will do nothing and we’ll continue going backwards

Fraser Black

The worrying thing now is the fact it’s turning to apathy . . . As you said David none of us are even surprised when we drop points. The problem the board have now is after disclosing the financial results last week, everyone knows finance can’t really be used as the excuse to not bin him. Get it done Rangers.

Gary Brown

Thanks for the pod lads, nice to have Tess back. Colin summed up the mindset of the 'majority' of Rangers fanbase in the first 2 seconds "The 1-1 defeat by St Mirren" !

Greg

Morelos and barisic, heart and hands favourite whipping boys.

Doug Young

Haha. Sometimes think that if Borna was the only player on the pitch for us and we won, he'd still get pelters. :D

Gregg

Think some of the problems he has is as a result of the lack of any real movement ahead of him - he has kent stuck on the touchline and not much else to pass to. The old horseshoe is systematic of this - don’t think the players want to do it - they don’t have much options ahead

Heart and Hand

Borna I don't really have any issue with. Alfie looked a mile off it Saturday, if saying that makes him a 'whipping boy' so be it. For some, any criticism of him is too much. I think he's way under what he could be.
