Rangers are now looking for a new manager. The Club statement this morning said:

"Rangers Football Club confirms today it has parted company with manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.  The board would like to put on record sincere thanks to Gio for all his efforts since his appointment as manager."

There will be more reaction throughout the day and the coming week.

Poor Gio, aside from his poor tactical skills, I didn’t like the amount of spitting he did.

Ewan Taylor

Lovey guy, sad it didn’t work out but a decision that needed to be made. Wish him all the best and hope our board get the next appointment right.

Charlie Nicolson

A cynic wonders whether the compensation payment reduces after first anniversary of appointment.

Ian Cartledge

Think we all realised his time was up!….onwards and upwards hopefully!

Harry Padda

Always wanted him to do well but it was time to go. I hope the board get the right person in now. Someone that will make sure we perform in the league.

Ryan Baistow

That annoyed me as well, especially as he comes across as a classy guy otherwise

Martin Davies

I wanted him gone, but at the same time, we don't sack managers often and it's sad that it's come to this. I wish Gio and his team all the best in the future.

Iain watson

Thanks for the memories Gio but it was time to go. Big Dyche please 🙏

Jean Kilpatrick

Not the usual Rangers way sacking managers I believe Gio could have turned this around wrtp🇬🇧

Ryan Baistow

No harm in that. The time is right now. Whether it was last week or today it doesn't matter and probably saved us a few quid

Gregg

The right decision - feel for Gio as he is a class act but just wasn’t working

Samuel Campbell

Had to happen but can't be the only one to go. Hasn't been all his fault. Recruitment and medical teams need a full overhaul as neither has been up to scratch

Colin Kerr

And if the next manager doesn't hit the ground running he will be gone in the summer .

Kyle Duff

Sad but had to happen unfortunately, hopefully Wilson isn't far behind

Stephen Fraser

This is what the majority of fans have called for it seems, I’m still split on this. Gio was manager for my most memorable night at Ibrox (Leipzig) and while he fell short on a few big tests, I think his legacy will be positive when the dust settles. I wish him all the best.

Steve Clark

it was inevitable and in my heart i thought it was inevitable after another capitulation at the piggery.that defeat in particular the manner of it ripped the heart out of the support and I believe the players as well.

Neil 55

Nice guy but we can't go on the way we have been playing.

Alastair McGeoch

It’s not nice when anyone loses their job but a change was needed. To be honest I am surprised the board acted so quickly but I guess there is an AGM imminent. Let’s see what happens next

Kev Armstrong

If I had my way he’d have been gone in the summer.

Rod

Had to be done, should have been gone a week ago but better late than never.

Sandy Innes

Right decision but still sad to see him go. Seems a very decent guy and gave us some unbelievable nights in Europe plus our first Scottish Cup in a decade.

Jordan

Honestly I feel a bit sad about this. I really really had faith in van bronckhorst up until the Liverpool game. His tenure has been a strange one with some of the best highs and the lowest lows in his time in charge. Leipzig being the top and parkhead being the bottom.

chris smith

If you cant beat Celtic you cant be Rangers manager for long. Pretty much everything else is irrelevant

Alan Cowan

Correct decision When all the players couldn't be arsed then that's a major problem. Can't sack the players, yet, but unfortunately it's the management team that carry the blame. A lot of deadwood players can hang their heads in shame.

Gavin Sullivan

Wish him all the best for the future. Sadly, it just never worked out with us. Once a Ranger, always a Ranger

David Campbell

Once a Rangers always a Rangers and thanks for your service GVB but change was needed. Must have someone lined up given the week between the last game and announcement

Ross Whitehead

It was always a question of when rather than if. The wheels really came off as soon as we qualified for UCL and didn't strengthen the squad. Hopefully the new manager can get a tune out the squad who were massively underperforming.

C. J

Oooooooft.

Neil McWhirter

Not sure how I feel about this, last season got him a fair bit of credit in the bank but the pathetic league form couldn't be ignored. Injuries have been a massive hindrance to him for team selection but style of play apart from the gio horse shoe I can't figure out. Next appointment is massive and they will need to be given time I don't like the hire and fire look.

Rona Bluebell

Can’t say football isn’t interesting 🤨

Rona Bluebell

Anyone woken David Edgar up yet? 😀

William Black

Weird feeling, felt this was needed for weeks and now it happens I feel a bit shite about it. Well, let’s see how this week pans out.

Stewart McKee

We getting a breaking news pod? I need to get to my bed for nightshift tonight

Rona Bluebell

I’ve got a hunch (based on nothing but typing the word hunch) it’s going to be Beale

Steff Clarke

Is the Gio sacking shirt on Black Friday sale yet?

Andrew Meldrum

Just him and not the coaching staff, going by announcement. Which is fine.

Rose Mcloughlin

Its sad to lose a Manager in this way...but the life was being sucked out of our club bit by bit...the fans and the players...but hope the next one gets more support from the board money wise......

Stuart King

Unfortunate, but needed to go. Thankful for the European run and those Ibrox memories... Grateful for the Scottish Cup win. Sadly though, league form just not good enough. Onwards we go!

Alan Cowan

I guess his support staff have also been dismissed? Hopefully the medical department for very obvious reasons

David

Where’s the content??

Ross Kerr

Micheal Beale or Kevin thompson……..???? Or has the guy that got sacked from Southampton already lined up?

Angus Mackay

Some people are demanding Tedesco, which seems hilarious given that Gio ran rings round him with vastly inferior resources in the spring. People are also asking for Dyche whilst hoping for exciting football. The board left themselves with little choice in the end, but I don't think the situation is principally on Gio and I think this is a decision that we'll regret longer term. I hope not, but I feel that will be the case. Thanks for the memories, GvB. For the first time in many, many years we outplayed CL level teams at their own game this spring. It's a long time since I've seen that done, and I've never seen us do it from such a disadvantageous position.

C. J

I’d take Dyche for a few reasons. He’ll get the dressing room sorted, he has a track record of improving younger players, he’ll shore up our backline & I reckon he’d get the morale in the squad back up. He’s a big lump but his players love him.

Douglas Innes

He wouldn't come his team was on £8 million a season at leeds and has a set of demands which means total control and usually a very young squad which we don't have

Ritchie Lamond

Thanks for your efforts Gio, sorry it didn’t work out for you or us but unfortunately it was too far gone to turn it around. You’re not the only one to blame but you’re the one who carries the can I’m afraid. On a separate note, I think it’s more than a bit offside that he was sent out to do that “1 year in” interview last week just to pull the trigger now. Doesn’t sit right with me.

John Smith

Was for the best for all parties. Thanks for Seville, the Scottish Cup and CL qualification Gio but it’s time for a clean slate

Leslie White

Another Manager to be sacked, and yet Players don’t get sacked, as if they do, how much of Gios sacking is down to players downing tools. He had to go yes players didn’t help, however his tactics for this season have been rank apart from a couple of games.

Graham McCallum

What was the point in announcing this today if the new guy isn’t in place yet? I’ve just read that the search for the new manager starts now ffs 😡

Colin Ferguson

Didn't see this coming, I thought it would have happened after the last 1-1 result against St Mirren and when nothing came from the board, his job was safe for now. I can't say I feel happy to letting him go, but deep down I do know we had too, as results just haven't been good enough... On the new manager; Sean Dyche would be the perfect appointment. He would kick the players arses into touch, quick smart! Has a Ranger to need to give a 110% in every game and Sean is the type of manager that expects that from his players... The King is dead long live the new King! 🇬🇧 WATP 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Gregg

Has never managed a team expected to win/ have most of the ball/ play against a low block. Major red flag for me, much as he had a good record at Burnley

7Tre3les

The board should have just told him its your last day when boarding the flight to Holland rather than staying and focusing on the team and strategies to win.
