Simon invites Andy B to quickly discuss the departure of Gio Van Bronckhorst, before they turn their attention to who just will be the 18th permanent manager of the famous Glasgow Rangers.

As this is a transfer pod spin off, as ever there’s an exclusive from Andy about a manager who won’t be taking over.

The lads also discuss their hopes and expectations of what they would like to ideally see unfold at Ibrox over the coming weeks.

Haven’t had a chance to listen yet but I will say I don’t want Beale as manager. I feel he was heavily involved with a Gerrard team that was too unwilling to change tactics at times.

DRKMN

Not Dyche, his football's not exactly exciting to watch. We need someone to win us titles but also navigate European group stages CL or Europa! That's where the cash is coming from so we can strengthen year on year.

Gregg

Surprised at the emphasis on handling the media in the discussion - this would be way down my list of concerns.

Simon H&H

Just one thing mate. Just an added bonus for any prospective manager. A rarity these days in my view

Rickie Clark

Have we seen Sean Dyche manage anyone apart from Watford [briefly] and Burnley? Not sure he'd play anything like that at Rangers.

Gregg

Yeah fair enough - people seem to be quiet worried about how people come across in the press, I’d be happy with someone straight batting most of it tbh.

Callum Dinnen

People seem to have completely forgotten that boring draws playing shite side to side football before spamming crosses was a regular occurrence under Gerrard

Russ

It won't happen but I'd love it if we got Gattuso out of Valencia. At least people would pay attention to the pressers haha.

Marc Henderson

Dyche said on MNF he played that way at Burnley because it suited his squad best and depending on who he manages would depend how his teams play, so I think your right

Stevie Auld

Definitely not Knutsen. Finished 18 points behind Molde this season. Not an ambitious manager

Rickie Clark

Exactly. He'd have to interview anyway, so the board and Ross Wilson would listen to his plan and make the best decision based on the remit.

Gregg

Think that’s all good in theory but I’d rather have a manger that’s proved they can play attacking winning football. Much as he done well at Burnley, he hasn’t shown that and I don’t want him testing out if he can with us

Gordon Black

Martindale as assistant manager to new appointment

James McConnachie

Martindale. Reasons:1) a clever manager who knows the lower English leagues and how to operate in Scotland 2) He’s as dodgy as fuck. Put it this way, if you fell out with Heisenberg at training and then saw him on his phone you’d be escaping over the back fence. 3) Graham Spiers would melt like the Nazis in Raiders. 4) We could use the Timplosion as a renewable energy source 5) Something feels right about it. Like it’d be a great story. We’ll never get Walter back (I’ve asked) but he’d have that feel.

Alan Mitchell

It’s got to be Duncan Ferguson if you want someone to look across the city with utter contempt

John Smith

I’d like to throw a name out here, John Herdman. He’s done absolutely tremendous with Canada

Stephen

Marcelo Gallardo

Neil McWhirter

Knutsen was in Scotland at the weekend....maybe just a coincidence.

Alexander Laird

Sorry but Beale should be nowhere near the position of manager of Rangers F.C. He's a very good coach and a good guy and maybe one day he'd be a serious contender. But not yet.

David_Davy_Dave

Martindale needs to be a part of the set up. Thomson and McCann ok they have passion and are Rangers men. Each could contribute. Martindale though that’s a guy with all of that and who is able to develop players and is astute enough to know how to take apart every team in this league Combination of team is vital. Hard k be sure but i did feel Gio’s team were too similar In contrast SG had Garry Mac as Mr Nice Guy with the players and Beale for tactics

CJT

Given that Devlin in the Sun is now saying Beale is the board's number 1 choice, and he's usually their go to guy, I guess the the podders were right to suggest he'd be offered it. Was getting quite excited at some of the other names mentioned. Will ne entirely underwhelmed if it is Beale, I'm afraid.

James Anderson

Gio had to go, however some these players who downed tools, and we all know who they are, should not escape judgement day.

Brian Rae

I'd be disappointed if Beale is offered the job. IMO, he'd be a gamble that would set us back further. Looking at QPR, they have plenty of possession and shots with little to no goals. We need fresh ideas. I wanted Knutsen last year before Gio but again, he would be a gamble. Though he has twice already tactically outclassed their manager. Dyche had Burnley playing attacking football in the championship and IMO, would be the safest choice out of those being linked but that doesn't mean I think he should be our next manager. Finally, Hassenhuttl. I think he might be the one that gets the job. Whoever it is, it has to the the right man.

Trev @JimmyBell_Loyal

Why do you think Beale would come to Rangers when he said no to an EPL club lads?? yes it was just Wolves but there are still an EPL side.

scobihughes

Beale would be a terribly lazy and underwhelming appointment imo. The football under Gerrard wasn’t exactly free flowing and Beale is pals with the majority of players that are stinking the place out. We will be gone by the summer though.

Greg

Beale is a gamble we can't afford to take imo.

Greg

Knutsen is a non starter for me, he's working under little pressure from a small fanbase enjoying the ride. The Rangers job, the media, the fan expectations would eat him up.

Simon H&H

I’ll be honest, a lot of the other names fill me with dread. Beale is a known quantity but he will need to show some adaptation to his style in game when chips are down. If appointed of course

Billy Boyce

Surprised I've not heard Billy Reid mentioned? Is he a realistic target and could be be the man for the job?

Jamie Gourlay

Andy suggesting McInnes and the love in with the scum 🤮 Nice suggestion on the Israeli coach though.

David Bold

The thought of Beale organising dart tournaments at the Training Centre with his pals Tav & Arfield gives me the fear. Not for me. It needs a fresh approach that looks at this squad without unconscious bias.

Chris Devoy

Kevin Muscat bring him home

chris smith

We need a manager who can coach, not a coach trialing to be a manager

Gazza G

Th leadership vacuum at our club means we need a strong figurehead imo. Dyche maybe, due to experience of EPL pressure?

Richard Baird

I think Michael Beale is inexperienced as a manager and we need someone who has a proven track record and will hit the ground running.

James McConnachie

In full agreement with Martindale. We don’t need a manager - we need a Rangers manager. There’s a subtle yet giant difference between the two things.

Angus Mackay

Sick of a group of players that have chucked it now at various points under several managers. If Gio was too nice, I hope the next guy takes to prisoners and boots several backsides out of the club ASAP. Time to move on.

Steven Campbell

Not sure why the emphasis from the show is on a strong candidate for the media. The press conference is just full of bloggers who won't ask any searching questions anyway.

David

People probably said the same thing about Water after Souness left and look how that turned out

Spoon

He would probably get a lot of draws, have sterile possession and never shoot with this squad then as that seems to be their strength. That and being grown up teenagers who sulk if the new manager doesn't play the way they wanted to. (Sarcasm aimed firmly at the utter dross players not you mate...)

Spoon

The board would be absolutely mental to go near Martindale, never sure why people always assume a guy who has total control and manager status wants to suddenly drop to be a number two ? Cant see why you would ever do that when your building your managerial career not at the end.

Spoon

Amazing we have demanded regime change only to find out that there aren't a lot of options that excite and our best guy isn't that great, and he still needs to galvanise a bunch of chancers who have chucked it and take the huff if they dont like how training is run, tactics are deployed or when last orders is.

Spoon

Fascinating show mostly as it shows that for a huge section of the support (not aimed at the hosts) the plan was to rage quit the manager then see if he was the issue or if there were even any viable options out there. Sign of the times probably but worrying trend if you aren't given the tools, demand vs realism isn't managed and every 12 months we have a messy expensive regime change and start again. Done now and we are where we are but the names some folk put forward give me the absolute fear.
