Martindale. Not much to look at but leading by a large head.

David Bold

Beale will be the new Rangers manager. KT will have a role in the coaching staff.

Rona Bluebell

Bears lurking on train platforms ninja style to spot potential managers carrying suits and brown brogues 🥷 🐻 We Are The Watching People 👀

Al-WATP

I know this isn’t going to be popular but I have serious reservations around the potential appointment of Beale. I acknowledge our progression under the Gerrard / Beale regime, there were absolutely plenty of good times under them but also plenty of not so good times and things had deteriorated when they left (yes I know we were top of the league). from what I’ve read his managerial record at QPR is average at best. P21 W9 D4 L8. Not convinced that’s good enough to be under consideration for a massive job like ours.

Euan Dover

Just being honest, I’ll be hugely disappointed if we appoint Beale.

David Campbell

Yesterday morning my heart was set on dyche by mid afternoon I was convinced Gerardo Seoane was the messiah by bed time it was all aboard the beale express 😂

Colin Mathie

No no + thrice NO! i dont want Michael Beale, he f'd off to when Gerrard left.

William Cunningham

I would be happy with Beale with Kevin Thomson in the coaching team. I enjoyed him putting English in his place

Jock Paterson

Beale is not the man. It just will not work.

Colin Wieland

Would be completely underwhelmed and massively disappointed if Beale appointed. Cannot believe he even in contention. Got Disaster with a huge capital D written all over it. A sleepwalk to oblivion for rest of this season and next if gets it.

Paul

Beale is just so this board. Lazy, unimaginative. We need a fresh approach. Not someone coming back to give the same underperforming players another chance. New ideas and someone who is ruthless is required. I'll be totally underwhelmed if it is him.

Al-WATP

Looking at the early comments you’re probably right David! And I fully agree with your assessment of his pros and cons, very balanced. No matter who is appointed, I fully expect the new gaffer to give the entire club a much needed boost.

William Electricity

The problem is, Beale will have loyalty with a lot of players who have not kicked their arse for over a year just now. If he comes in and rips up the squad, then I'm all for it, but persisting with Kent, Jack, Borna and even, to some extent, Tav when they can't be trusted at times will backfire for us IMO.

Gregor McNeish

Not sure about Beale tbh. We basically had it before but with the figure head, cultural lure that was Gerrard there too attracting players etc. No Gerrard this time no lure for players. Not sure.

WILLIAM JACK

I like Beale and he may prove to be a good manager in time if given a chance but he has been a first team manager for less than half a season. That's a huge risk. He doesn't have the experience of being a first team manager to fall back on if things get tough. Yes, he was here with Gerrard but in the same way that some suspect Stevie G might not have been the same manager without Beale's tactical nous, it's possible that Beale might lack the credibility or fear factor that Gerrard had in crucial moments. Problem we have is that if he continues to prove himself he moves out of our reach. For me it's a risky appointment but against that we aren't privy to the relationship he built with the board and what they saw from him when he was here.

aldo adens

David who out the current squad come january transfer window could we move and generate enough funds for who ever the new manager will be.

Callum Dinnen

Beale would be a huge step backwards in my opinion, and it's the same weird mindset that had people pining for Balogun in September. We're going through a rough patch so the solution is to get a guy who was here when things were good. The clamour for Beale is also the result of people romanticising the Gerrard era and forgetting all the bad things that happened in Gerrard's first 2 seasons. We were also fairly turgid to watch under Gerrard for most of 2021 and I include most of the back half of the 55 season in that. If Beale was the tactical mind behind Gerrard's time at Ibrox then expect more of the same that we've just rejected Gio for. I don't think Beale knowing and having a good working relationship with the players is a great selling point either given how much the squad needs ripped up either.

aldo adens

They were the two i had in mind and i also had kent in there due to his contract situation with they two as a reduced fee. Also would you throw a kamara in there aswell even tho he has been poor so far this season with length of time left on his deal he for me is only one we could get a decent chunk of cash for.

Graeme McLeod

Can see far more negatives than positives in appointing Beale. Less than half a season in management. Currently 0-4-1 in his last five matches with QPR. Was supposedly the tactical mastermind during Gerrard's tenure, where more than once we were bereft of any ideas but "cross into the box." Just screams out a lazy appointment, one that our board think will be popular and keep the fans off their back.

Alan Cowan

Let's face it, no managerial appointment guarantees success. So anyone carries a risk, but right now I would have Michael Beale as manager. Currently ticks the correct amount of boxes than not. Knows the club, fan expectations, style of play, knows the squad, knows the board, knows the city. Would like to see Martindale as support and also KT and or McCann. Not sure where the previous SG team are, Culshaw etc. Only my opinion but to me it's better than a person who doesn't know the squad , club or city, especially if he has a family and they don't settle and before you know it they are wanting to leave

Carlos Apicella

One question why now from the athletic why not when the incident happened

Gregg

Kamara would be worth a few quid and we should look to move on - albeit missed the boat for peak value

Carlos Apicella

I bow to your journalistic knowledge david but thats why i joined HandH,stopped reading papers, bbc etc and other on line outfits like the athletic years ago, maybe people do talk after managers leave will be interesting to hear Gios side lol

Gordon Robertson

The rangers supporters club London that you mentioned? Is that the Green Man in Islington? I'm down next month.

Mark

Fitness is 100% the responsibility of the club. Players are not allowed to do additional training off their own back. Diet is found to them but all training is dictated by the club. If their not fit, it's on the coaching staff.

Ryan Stewart

Surprised and Struggling to understand the negativity around Beale tbh. A month ago when Wolves were chasing him everyone was saying how amazing he was and lamenting how we should have given him the job ahead of GVB after Gerrard had left. And that we had possibly missed the boat on him as he was destined for the EPL. Now he’s had a few bad results with an average team on a shoestring budget in one of the most competitive leagues in the World everyone seems to have changed their tune and now he’s too inexperienced and not good enough. Im confused as to how appointing a young upcoming coach who has already played a massive part in us winning a league is being seen as a safe or lazy choice. Fully accept it’s a risk and I share some of the scepticism. That being said, there isn’t a single realistic candidate we could target that is going to tick every box. Any manager we appoint is going to be a risk whether it’s a lack of experience or numerous other reasons. Beale knows the club, knows the players and the players respect and trust him. He has proven that he can improve players and implement a style of play. Again, not saying he’s the perfect candidate, but I’d be happy if he got the job.

Max Todd

Beale for me. Exiting young manager with a passion for Rangers and good knowledge of our players / league. He’s a natural fit. Close the deal Rangers 👍🏻

Mike Black

Well if it is Beale or whomever I want them to bring back our pressing game which was lost completely under Gio

Max Todd

On Facebook, go onto the group “Rangers fans - London & South East England”. All the local supporters clubs + their pubs are listed for each match. There are several.

Ross Whitehead

'Victim of his own success' seems to be the line that GvB's camp is going with. Marcel van der Kraan used it yesterday in his article in De Telegraaf, and again today on Sky Sports, and now Ceri Bowley has used it. So rather than looking at what went wrong from August to now, they are burying their heads in the sand.

Heart and Hand

It absolutely would! With NDAs though it’ll be a while. There are some journalists it’s total bollocks but in Jordan’s case I’d tend to believe it.

James Coburn

QPR had a good few weeks and have been poor since. Beale would be the easy and lazy appointment for Rangers. We are miles behind, we need experience and a strong Manager.

Gregg

Not sure about this Mark - Morelos was pictures training at the gym, tav had a personal trainer on holiday. There are other examples of similar and sure players can do extra after training. Whether they need permission to do so I don’t know, but there has to be a level of personal responsibility to be in good shape

Ryan Stewart

That’s definitely not the case. Tav was training with his brother at a place abroad during the summer. Ryan Jack and Alex Lowry are doing similar this break. Colak posted a photo of him in a gym somewhere earlier this week.

C. J

Bowley doesn't get it. The mentality to win here is absolutely relentless. Success is dominance, fighting for a title is not success, being miles behind is downright failure.

C. J

Martindale as Beale's number 2 would be fine.

Paul Kerr

Beale is any easy choice. There's no denying that. I agree. On the flip side of that, he's an easy choice for a reason. We know he's a good coach, we know he will have a style of play and the players will be fit and well drilled in that style. We did vary it up when Beale was here, Europe we could set out our stall very well home or away. I'm sure much of that will have been down to him prepping the team. Is he a Rangers manager? When he speaks football people listen. He's well respected within the game and seen as one to watch. He's a supporter. I think he'd be very standards driven. That seems, to me anyway, a big part of why he fell in love with the club. I do think he could grow into it. I'm not saying get him over someone else as we've no idea who else is even seriously interested. I'm just not sure he should be so quickly dismissed. Whoever it is has a job on their hands. Hopefully they get the backing they will need.

Paul Coulter

Sending best wishes to Scott

Graham McCallum

Don’t like it and don’t want it but will support it.

Derek Keir

David - M Beale having an approx 50% win rate at QPR, thoughts?

Gregg

Interestingly only the top 2 last season had better than a 50% win ratio in the championship

Graham Jones

It’s probable that if we get Beale, then we’ll get Kevin Thomson, which would be a really good thing. I really have no idea which way this board will go, to be honest. I just do’t want another patsy in the dugout. We need someone who’ll call out this board when they don’t invest enough, and push back against Wilson, if he has to stay.

James McConnachie

See this Beale chat; let’s look at the evidence. Over reliance on a front player and not enough goals throughout the team. Possession based but struggles to have a cutting edge. Season 1 - post NY collapse - dogshit. Season 2 - post NY collapse - dogshit. Season 3 - 55. Season 4 - dogshit start and left the club with Gerrard - no cups won. In Bealeball season 3 seems to have been the blip. In general, that style has struggled in Scotland against well setup teams. I would very much guard against a return to that style.

Gregg

It is in that league - very few managers will have the plus 80% ratio we will need. The championship is super competitive - as the stats above show. Not saying he is the right guy but you can only piss with the cock you’ve got

Callum Dinnen

Jordan Campbell played football as a kid with Greg Docherty so I'd be surprised if he didn't have one or two contacts or ways of finding things out from within the dressing room

Kev Roberts

Beale not good enough might as well of kept Gio, same keep the zero tactics but Gio is a bigger name in world football. We struggle to attract players to Scotland these days SG and Gio at least had a little pull who's gonna come and play for Beale? We don't back our internationally recognized managers so with beale its even harder

David Taylor

I can see both sides of the arguments of appointing Beale, I wouldn’t be against it, but without knowing who else is in the frame and how realistic their demands are, it’s hard to fully judge. My concern is that there is no one outstanding candidate that the support will be united behind like when Gio was appointed. If Beale gets the gig, there will be lots of fans unhappy, and he won’t get the time he needs and the usual confirmation bias would be in full flow at the first poor result. It would be the same for any of the candidates mentioned so far. Let’s just hope whoever gets the job, hits the ground running and starts closing the gap on them, I don’t think this league is over just yet.

Gordon Robertson

Going to the Green Man in Islington for the first 2 games back. Always a great atmosphere. The bullet holes in the street opposite from a recent gang fight add to the fun!!

Carlos Apicella

Callum i accept that ,the point im making if jordan knew this info why spill it now why not when it happened!

Dougie Jones

I watched Adam and Ally's interview with Ceri Bowley on this site a few weeks ago and was very impressed. But it's hard not to feel that his impressive presentation wasn't quite replicated in the real world I'm afraid. And I agree with others who are sceptical about his 'victim of own success' viewpoint.

Greig Chambers

Whoever gets it I’ll be fully behind. I’m not convinced Beale is te answer though. I think the last thing this group of players need is a familiar face, they need someone new with fresh ideas who can judge them on what they offer from now until the end of the season without any previous prejudice. The new manager can then make decisions based on this for the remainder of the season and next season can be planned out with regards to priority areas to strengthen. This appointment needs to be right, we cant afford to take a chance.

Spoon

Not convinced the legend of Beale hasn’t become a bit overblown, the dross in the squad are largely there due to being his and SGs boys and as you rightly highlight the performance trend was down as they all left looking scunnered with how it was panning out. It really grates when I hear about the drinking issue and the lack of fitness stuff. A modern manager should expect players to maintain a professional level of fitness especially if there are about a hundred reasons to focus training time on actual tactics when your playing so badly. The idea this mob can turn it on and off when it suits them boils my blood. The idea a bunch of petulant brats can only play or train one way or they go in a huff and don’t engage us ridiculous and I hope I don’t hear the ‘senior player group’ being consulted again. Some self awareness from that clique on who actually is at fault here would be welcome. Big job who ever comes in, I see the sense in Beale for continuity but it’s a lazy appointment and relies heavily on the wider team being right. Given the char around a presence , stature and profile I don’t see Beale as having that at all, he has the student of the game thing but he’s not a leader or hasn’t shown it to date. Time will tell and the less I hear about Dyche, Allardyce or Martindale the better 👍🏻

CJT

Beeb kind of playing out as I thought it might till now. Wait till Worl Cup, feign a thought process while preparing the change, feign another 'selection' process the appoint before platers return to training. So far, so good. The prospect that it has been Beale all along comes along. Deeply depressing for all the reasons others have stated. The wisdom of just get Gio out, anyone will be better, and the 'not my job ti worry about who's next' stuff may just be severely tested in the coming months. Move a manager on and replace with better I'm all for. Move a guy on and take a massive risk, not so much.

Rona Bluebell

Sending you wishes for a speedy recovery, Scott ❤️🤍💙

Billy Forrester

Some Fans will be unhappy whoever gets the job, unless it’s jurgen or pep. everyone has their own idea but whoever it is the fans need to realise it’s not gonna be a quick process to turn us around, it’s gonna require a huge clear out and new recruitment and this could be a 2 year project, tough times lie ahead so we need to give the new man time to implement this or we will be back here again in a years time

Spoon

100% correct the more I listen to the summary of where we are in recent pods and the trifecta of shit that surrounds the squad, manager and board the more I wonder if people realised what Geo or any manager was having to deal with and what they really expected would be different. Since it seems to be accepted that a root and branch clear our of never good enough, has beens or just too old guys is made and the 'senior player' clique is smashed we are stuck with a group who can turn up when it suits them and they more than anyone else are why we are where we are in league.

Rona Bluebell

If (and it’s always an if) Beale is the chosen on and if he gets it right, we could have someone in charge for the long term who loves the club. That makes me a happy bunny 🐰
