Playing devils advocate here, I wouldn’t necessarily want Porteous but I wouldn’t dismiss him as being a bad player. He might improve with better players playing alongside him. He certainly looked good playing for Scotland recently. If anything, we have lacked having players with a nasty streak for a while! We need to look at the Scottish market more. I fear we made a mistake not going for Lewis Ferguson for example. I always get the impression we get caught up in the excitement of signing foreign players when they is a lot of talent in Scotland. Spending £5 million on a Turkish full back sounds more glamorous than buying Josh Doig from Hibs but in hindsight that looks like a mistake.

Porteous is absolutely odious. Cheating, nasty goon that runs around trying to clog other players. I’d have him in the team in a jiffy #niceguyswinfuckall. It’d also be interesting how the Scottish media would react. Tam McManus would be inconsolable. Cue the following articles; 1) Porteous shows lack of ambition (if he was any good he’d have gone to England). Quote from ex-player and manager regarding this. 2) He’s not good enough for Celtic/Celtic weren’t interested. They were put off by his disciplinary record and non-SNP voting history. 3) Article that focuses on the times he’s cheated - with an ex-Celtic pundit suggesting that refs should keep an eye on him. 4) Article that focuses on the unfair financial clout of OF as Rangers have signed a Scottish player. 5) Exposé of Porteous - that no-one cared about previously; that he dresses up as a lollipop man in Corstorphine and runs off when the kids are halfway across.

Think the time to take a punt on Ferguson was when he left Hamilton - we were a mess then. There would have been a considerable “Rangers” tax on both fees and just don’t think they would have been viable. Getting the FOMO for Porteus doesn’t seem the best thing to do for me - he’d be fourth choice if everyone fit and blocking young king

I have a theory about playing for Rangers. It’s the bampot multiplier, where your level of bamness increases tenfold. Also known as the Duncan Ferguson effect. Porteous for us may work but he’d need one hell of a handler.

I’d not be against Porteous, whilst I hate him as a hibs player he’d do us a job in the spfl, and whilst I somewhat agree about the comments regarding being a possible liability, we can’t forget all the crap we went through with Alfie and his red cards!
