Really enjoyed this, thanks to Steven and David. Grandpa passed away the year before I was born, so I always revel in hearing stories from those who met him. Steven - can you email me ctcampbell92@gmail.com ? My mum (Willie’s only child) would love to listen and is not particularly tech savvy!

I remember one midweek watching the reserves at olde Ibrox , there was probably between 1 & 2 thousand at the game , I can’t remember why but I was hanging around the front doors , I noticed Willie Thornton chatting with Willie Waddell , I meekly approached the pair & when they noticed me Waddell just about bit my head off asking me what I wanted ? I said did youse enjoy the game tonight gents , to which Thornton replied that they always enjoyed watching the reserves play . I quit while I was ahead & got out of dodge. Both gentlemen were suited & booted , still immaculate in the late 80s.

Ps , I was working in olde Ibrox when the club deck was getting built , only for one week as it turned out , there was to be a memorial for Thornton in the trophy room , which was also under renovation , they were working round the clock to get the room ready & I hang on to do a plaster patch so the wall could be papered , the wallpaper was like a kind of royal blue velvet.
