Congratulations to everyone involved for their contributions to what has been one of the best shows the network has ever produced, and especially to Martyn for all his hard work. Cannot wait to get the book when available. Fabulous work.

Callum Dinnen

For me, McCoist's celebration against Celtic is matched only by Cooper's at Hampden in 1986 in terms of iconic celebrations. I love that goal so much.

Keir Cramb

Absolutely phenomenal series guys, well done to all involved.

Pondo Sinatra

This show has been a monumental achievement. I was 18 when Souness arrived and the memories the show has evoked have been truly wonderful. Congratulations to all the contributors but a standing ovation for Martyn for bringing the whole epic to such vibrant life! Bravo! 👏👏👏🇬🇧

Niall MacKay

Terrific show again and superb series. Great sign off, I'm definitely a nine in a row baby and have continued to treat Rangers teams with the same level of expectations I had during the 90s. In hindsight that is pretty unkind to them. The last season there was my first as a season ticket holder. Was forever labelled a jinx and I couldn't argue. Memory is a funny thing but I always thought that Gattuso was one of few performers that year who I could actually give pass marks to. He was just a footnote in your run down so it's likely me misremembering. Thanks for this series, it has been a fundamental part of my week for a while now.

Tom McDavid

Superb series guys 👏🏼👏🏼

Alan Ryder

Fantastic series gents. Brought back some tough memories. Remember being gutted after that cup final. I think more for the legends that I grew up supporting than anything else. Then we had the most exciting summer ever as a Rangers fan ….

Callum Dinnen

On the squad point, we've got the following: Niemi Snelders Porrini Cleland Stensaas Amoruso Petric Moore Vidmar Bjorklund McLaren Miller B. Ferguson Gattuso Gascoigne Thern Albertz Laudrup Negri Van Vossen Rozenthal Johansson All in place at the start of 1997, who are all young, or young in terms of their Rangers careers. And that's not including his boys from that night at Hampden in March 1992. We're still relying on McCoist in the spring of 1998 because every attempt to replace him (Salenko, Jardel, Rozenthal, Negri) for one reason or another doesn't work out. Likewise, Gough goes, and is brought back because his replacement is long term crocked, and despite the defensive riches we have, we're a shambles without him. Smith lacks the ruthless streak Souness had (no way does Butcher leaves the way he did under Smith) but there is an attempt to regenerate the team, although unquestionably there is a failure in management of players like Gascoigne and Miller.

Martyn Ramsay

I tried to make the point on the show that 8 of those came in during one summer. That’s always a risk and it didn’t work in this case. Too much in one go. McLaren is also done and literally would never play again. Ideally that regeneration is done gradually but we know why that didn’t happen.

Martyn Ramsay

Yeah I’d agree that Gattuso was a bright light but maybe a bit more inconsistent than we like to remember.

Martyn Ramsay

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I’m glad so many of you enjoyed the work that we put in over the year. Hope to see as many of you as possible on Sunday evening.

Johnnie Mitchell

Best thing I’ve listened to on the network. Absolutely fantastic Martyn, and thanks to the other regular guests. Very poignant at the summing up talking about how lucky we were to have been following The Rangers during this period. Hindsight is indeed a wonderful thing and it’s only years later I look back and wished I had appreciated it more at the time. Cheers

Callum Dinnen

I get that players like McLaren are done but it does point to a degree of bad luck as he without doubt was earmarked as Gough's long term successor. I agree on the risk of too much in one go - the same thing happens in 1987/88 where Souness makes a lot of changes to the title winning squad - although those changes basically lay the foundations for 9 in a row. I think Smith does try to regenerate - but particularly where McCoist and arguably Gough are concerned, he appears cursed when it comes to replacing those players.

Andrew Hunter

Chapeau Martyn, the best series I've heard on the H&H network.

George Higgins

Great series of pods. Best ever. BTW we did have the full stand at the semi. I was in the enclosure at the end furthest away from where we scored. Thank you to all who made this series. Particularly you Martyn.

Ross Monro

Absolutely loved it, thanks lads

Brian Imrie

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 tremendous. Well done guys 🇬🇧

Graham Roy

Great as always well done 👍🏻

Steve Clark

Just a brilliant series.just thinking back about that Killie game at ibrox.interesting thing happened on our rsc bus those off the bus that had stayed behind were getting moaned at about holding up the bus from those who had left early or bang on 90 mins.as the arguments over it raged i and a few of the bears noticed the majority of those who had stayed were all bears who had been going to Rangers games before souness arrived .

Laura McCrimmon

Cracking series guys, going to miss this on a Tuesday. Well done all involved really has been a great listen.

Ross Thomson

Fantastic series. One of the best on the network. Honoured to get a mention in the final episode 😂

Gary Shaw

In a sick and twisted way I’ve loved the last few episodes as much as the 9IAR shows….”UNBELIEVABLE” is what Super Ally is saying to Goughie when celebrating at the piggery….I hate that in the grand scheme of things that Albertz’ goal in the cup ultimately meant nothing because in isolation that’s my favourite ever Rangers goal by my favourite ever Ranger….

Gary Shaw

And as much as we all love wee Butch Wilkins,Therns goal is better as it was harder to execute

Douglas Innes

After the Aberdeen game I just couldn't believe that a team that had reached so high the previous 2 weeks could be so poor at Pittodrie , that defeat was my " the penny has dropped " moment ........ it was like they just couldn't get up for it Great series, one of the best

Steve Clark

Can I just say Martyn has been a first class host and the contributors,David, Andy,of course the two old timers Alan and John who are both a similar vintage as me when in comes to supporting rangers have all been brilliant

Alex Bryce

Brilliant content from start to finish. Thanks Martyn and the other contributors. I've no doubt the book will be excellent too.

Gregg

Amazing show chaps - thoroughly enjoyed it

Craig

What a great show, thanks so much for all the podders taking the time to create it. My own memories of the end were going to the beam backs for Hearts and then Dundee Utd. The strange feeling in the subway queue after the Utd beam back, then the Scottish cup final and realising it was the end of an era. However knowing the new manager was coming in and the World Cup coming along my disappointment didn’t last too long and we were back on the up the following year.

Bob MacCallum

Thanks Martyn and the guys for a wonderful series. It was a joy for me to re-live the best era in my Gers-supporting life which started in 1960. Unforgettable players, teams and games.

Martin Boyd

Well done lads all good things must end . Thoroughly enjoyable series quite a lot of stuff I had forgotten , self preservation probably and quite a lot of good stuff which I hadn’t removed from the memory bank. John has the right of it older fans had seen worse things than losing a cup final and not getting to ten in row.

Dougie

Now Dominant is finished get The History Boys back on. 😏🤣 No rest for the wicked!!

G87

Loved the series boys but really appreciated these last 4 episodes (probably for same reason as Martin). Aged 10 in May 98, remember crying my eyes out that afternoon after dundee united as it was the first time I hadn't seen Rangers win the league in my lifetime. Wanting it all to be forgotten. Now all these years later I can appreciate that 97/98 season for all that went before, from 92/93 onwards when my love and attachment to this team grew. Knowing now that really I was watching the era of a lifetime. I also have never went back to watch the 98 cup final, feel like I might need to do so. Thanks again to Martyn and the contributors.

Steven Nicol

Absolutely brilliant series, gave me a much better understanding of the era as I was just born in 88. Superb stuff

John Johnston

Brilliant series Martin thank you so much.

Alan Spiden

What an absolutely brilliant piece of work Martyn. I had just turned 21 when Souness came in and had then turned 33 just before the cup final. In that time I got married, changed jobs and had two kids. The most vivid memories though are of the football and you have transported me back to a far younger, hirsute, and less knackered me. Although it ended the way it did, I’d live those 12 years again tomorrow given half a chance.

Lee Colvin

Gutted that this team ended and now gutted I won't be listening to this every Tuesday morning.A great show gents and a brilliant series.

Gary Brown

Thanks again Martyn for the end episode of your truly wonderful series. Thanks to the regulars Alan, Andy, John & David who have done so much to add even more depth to the project. I am lucky in having the perspective I do. Dominant is truly 'my' era being 16-28 over the period. Aged in-between the older & younger members of the contributing cast I can easily understand & relate to both sets of, sometimes diverse or conflicting, generational views and generally I agree with both! I can empathise & understand the view & attitude of a 17 yr old Martyn at the end of it all. But a very apt soliloquy to the team/s of heroes was a truly fitting end to the story this time round. I'd say that you have done this entire era more than justice through your work on it now. It is a well researched, honest (warts & all), immensely detailed account of the teams & the times. Thank you for the vast amount of time & effort Martyn. I will truly miss this series as part of my week. But really looking forward to the book!

David Taylor

I’d just like to thank Martyn, as well as David, Andy, John and Alan for this brilliant series. There have been some brilliant shows on H&H and this is definitely up there with the best of them. I’m a similar age to David and Andy, so this period was very much my era and the shows brought back so many happy and the odd sad memory, not just football related, but it’s amazing how many life events are inextricably linked with football matches. Overall I don’t think that I appreciated the good times as much as I should have done, it just felt like it would always be that way. Amazing work and I look forward to the next project, Tuesday mornings won’t be the same now.

Mark

Well done Martyn, Alan, David, Andy and John. This has been some of the best listening I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying.

Iain hughes

Martyn, and his pleasing baritone, has delivered a series which may well be Heart & Hand’s masterpiece. Bravo. Since it’s deadline day, #announcethebook

Andy Milne

Great series gents! John, I’ve just clicked that my Dad and I sat next to you in the Copland Rear at Leipzig and again in the ill fated Champions League campaign this year - was it Liverpool?

john cowden

Good to put a name to a face, one of those games was slightly better than the other…. Hope you both well

Zander West

What a series. A stunning body of work Martyn and the lads,, bravo👏

Paul Kerr

Many thanks Gents and to Martyn in particular for adding context and structure to a time that always leaves my head in a bit of a spin when I think back. It really was the perfect time to grow up a Bluenose.

John Palmer

The picture used for this Pod is my all time favourite Super Ally goal. Everything from the build up, the goal amd Allys celebration and show of emotion is what does it for me.

Adam

Honestly don't know how you top this Martyn, one of the best podcast series I've ever listened to. Stellar work from yourself and the show contributers. An insight into a time I remembered, although didn't appreciate or really understand the gravity of and it certainly wasn't a vivid recollection. I watched the the latter stages of the run to 9iar through the lens of a child. A more mature and nuanced perspective on football and Rangers didn't really kick in until after McLeish had left. I feel like I have a greater understanding of that time in the clubs history and the country too to be honest. A compelling listen from start to finish. Can't wait to read the book or is it now books!?

Adam

I was the same, only I was 8. I'd never known us not to win the League. I thought that was what football was. Lots of games happen and Rangers mostly win, then we get to see Gough lift a cup or two.

Jamie Walker

The ‘After you Claude’ championship is the best description you can give that year, well said John!!!! Great series chaps, enjoyed each and every episode!

Graeme Duncan

Martyn et al, truly superb series of a slice of our great history. Each of you bringing personal insight and perspective to make this time come to life for me once again. Sometimes there were memories that I’d wished to have pushed to the back of my mind and never know again but others that I think about far too often. Thanks once again for all your work with this Martyn.

Martin Davies

I was working in the United Services Club in Motherwell before the cup match, and mentioned to one of the cleaners that I had to go to Asda for toilet rolls to take to the game. She gave me one of those big industrial, almost tyre size ones. The police wouldn't let me in with it unless I could get the cardboard piece in the middle out, which I couldn't. Little did I know my seat was front row of the main stand. I could have rolled it across the pitch and it would have got to the far touchline! In hindsight, if I had been higher and thrown it, I would have killed someone if it hadn't unrolled!

Lewis Wardrope

Tremendous series on a tremendous period of time for our club. Well done to all involved. Eagerly looking forward to the books now

Martin Davies

Martyn, John, Andy, David and Alan - take a bow gents, an absolutely brilliant series and allowed me to relive so many great memories, plus a few that I have tried to forget! Looking forward to the books.

Ian Milne

That’ Jonas Therm goal v Celtic at Ibrox was my first Old Firm goal I saw live. Was taken away by the celebrations to the goal and how loud it was that I started crying tears of joy.

Paul Dunnachie

Hairs on the back of the neck standing up at a few points in that last episode.. the discussion about McCoist’s final Old Firm goal in particular - a fan scoring the goal was a great theme. The perspectives of all of the contributors was a great mix - I’m of the Martyn, Andy & David generation and interesting to have a lot of “I thought that too” moments - especially on things where I thought I was a bit on an outlier! Thank you for such a wonderful show.

John Walker

Well done Martin and all the other contributors great pod which brought back so many good memories.

John Sturdy

Brilliant job from Martin and all the contributors throughout this series. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Most of my school days belonged to this era and that closure on the last season resonates greatly. Here’s hoping there is another dominant period of such magnitude in the future.

Kevin Hearn

Brilliant series, really looking forward to reading the book.

Campbell Maclennan

Well done Martyn. An exception piece of work. The level of detail is incredible and illuminated an era I lived through in a whole new light. Thanks also to Andy, John, David & Alan for the brilliant insight. 97 98 was a crazy season. I remember being very angry with the team for large parts of it, but from March onwards they really rallied and proved they were still the best in the land, but sadly faltered at the final hurdles. So much had to go wrong for us to not win 10iar, but it all did in an almost divine intervention sort of way. It was though, after the dust settled the most incredible period with so many incredible players doing incredible things that i'll cherish forever.... Well done again...!!!

Tom Hill

This series has been a joy. A massive well done and thanks 👍🏻

john cowden

Two very different nights, hopefully another european semi final night to enjoy beside you soon

Samuel Campbell

Thanks for this series guys , been absolutely superb

Steve23

Well done Martin and everyone, a fantastic pice of work. Not just entertaining, it was a lot more personal than that for so many of us. Loved it from day one. I’ve seen a lot of 9iar stuff over the years but your show is the most engaging representation of that time I have had the pleasure to take in. Brilliant insights from John, Andy, Alan and David as well. Born in 1971, I am around 1980 onwards era. The show brought a lot of memories back, some I’m not sure have ever really surfaced before to be honest. The last 1/2 hour was a bit hard to listen too as I felt some sadness, not because we didn’t do 10iar, but it’s a time in my life I miss a great deal, a really happy time. I spent that time in the East Enclosure. I remember the feeling when we knew it was over and after the initial despair, it was a feeling of complete affection and gratitude to the players and a team packed with Rangers legends. Just as a footnote, for the younger bears who focus on Super Ally and his time in management, I hope the closing comments give some perspective as to what that man brought to our club. A true Rangers Legend.

Pedro

A fitting final episode, I genuinely felt emotional at the description of the last game. Really fantastic work guys, the best series that has been produced so far. For the Rangers nation, Martyn Ramsay is a national treasure!

William Alston

Martyn, outstanding series, thanks for letting me relive my childhood supporting rangers and also allowing me to join some dots in my mind of what happened. This is something that will last forever and hopefully tell this story to future generations. Looking forward to buying the book

Fraser Black

Sensational series Martyn thank you so much for doing this. Can’t believe it’s been a year though! Doesn’t seem that long ago you were discussing the arrival of Mr Souness. Get this series put forward for some awards David Edgar! To this day, I think those of us that lived this era will forever compare subsequent Rangers teams with this group of champions. Wish I was just that little bit older to appreciate it more. Thanks again guys, and please let us know when the book is due out Martyn.

Andrew

Congratulations to Martyn and co for this fantastic series - As someone born in '86, it's been wonderful to hear about the earlier part of this era that I was too young to remember, as well as reliving those brilliant mid-90s days. While 97-98 is naturally regarded as the season we lost 10-IAR, It was ultimately a step too far for an aging team - Should the disappointing 87-88 season be considered the year which really cost us that achievement? Thanks again to all the guys for their efforts on this show over the last 12 months.

Louch

A superb series from start to finish. If only the firm personnel changes made at the start of the pod had been seen by the club near the end of this run we might have had 8 or 12 pods to still be waiting on. As someone who’s awareness of the game came in 92/93 it was a great education on what came before, but also a reinforcement of some of my beliefs on some of the players and their actions that I’ll ask about on Sundays live show. I’d almost ask for this series in the future to find its own feed to keep it easy to revisit as been a fantastic 72 hours. Thanks to all involved.

Dougie Jones

Can only echo the comments above. An absolutely wonderful series. Well done to Martyn, David, Alan, John and Andy. Fantastically rich insights into a hugely significant time in our history.

David whyte

I went through every emotion listening to this series. Congratulations to everyone involved especially Martyn.
