Enjoyed that, thanks Martyn I'm definitely in the "show me shiny things and I don't care how you do it" camp. There's a natural tendency, certainly for for neutrals, to root for tbe underdog. And especially one that has flaws, rather than the consummate winner. And with the underdog tends to come a romanticised story of competing against the odds, fighting against The Man. People also like to see sports people who appear to have a God given natural talent as opposed to a talent honed by hours of daily practice. People love the apparent unpredictability, or overly emotional reactions. A lot of serial losers revel in the tag "maverick", and the popularity it often brings. It can be entertaining watching these sportspeople, but I have far more respect for those with medals around their necks.

Excellent episode….point made early on was that by adopting a certain ‘style’ of play or wearing white suits before a final means you have to win or you get eaten alive. This point seems pretty relevant after Sunday where not only did Sakala chat shit and didn’t back it up, but Beale chose a starting XI and tactics to contain rather than play his usual style. Maybe that’s why rangers fans are so critical of Sunday - if you decide to try and contain, you better be fucking good at it!

Enjoyed this - can mind the Man U team of the 90s tearing teams apart on the break with Kanchelskis/ Sharpe/ Giggs. Great to watch but they had a pretty good as well. The difference between Madrid and Barca seems to some this chat up for me.

Really enjoyed this, Martyn. The anti football comment was from Messi. I really started to dislike him and that Barcelona team from then on due to their snobbery.

Enjoyed that alot. Thanks to Rob from me too. Just a bit of pedant's corner on the "anti-football" thing. It was indeed Messi being interviewed, after our game at Ibrox that you're remebering. However, it had been Rijkaard who coined it first when they'd played Celtic in 03-04. He mentioned it in that post match interview and some slavering Celtic minded journo held on to the grudge for a few years then asked the loaded question to Messi in 07-08 saying " Did Rangers play anti-football? " They're never happy when they've won. There's got to be an offendedness.
