When the Tribune Company bought the Chicago Cubs in 1981, its executives saw night-time baseball as a way to turn around the club’s fortunes. The only problem? Scores of local Wrigleyville residents were ready to fight against it. This is the story of the decades-long wait to bring lights to Wrigley Field, and a battle pitting a giant media corporation against a feisty neighbourhood.

Fantastic story...... back in 1992 I was on holiday in Jamaica and the afternoons were hot so would take off back to apartment to watch the baseball took a 4-5 days before actually getting a grasp of it , my neighbour once went San Francisco and attended a ball game even though he had no interest but said it was a great experience

Why does the audio for the intro always sound poor on Steven’s podcasts?

Thanks for that Steven from a Scottish Cubs fan. Great history lesson, really enjoyed it. The Cubs still have restrictions on the number of night games they play at Wrigley, particularly weekends, and the Friday day game is still effectively sacrosanct - this is at a very friendly time for any interested UK viewers, usually 7:20pm. Hey, Cub colours are blue, white & red and there's a bear logo - what's not to love? They're playing well and off to a decent start this season too. Best manager rant ever. Saddens me that a few too many Rangers fans need to hear that simple 'support your team' message right now! Go Cubs Go C'mon The Rangers Thanks again Steven

Have you been sent a dodgy sounding audio clip bud. Love the episode mate I’m a big baseball fan.

Enjoyed that Steven, thanks!!

A fantastic listen, thank for that. I've been to a game at Fenway but really need to get a visit to Wrigley Field ticked off the bucket list.
