Why do some teams have such an awful away record? Why do some players fail to make the jump to a bigger club or international football? Martyn is joined by Dr Alex Oliver to discuss the psychology around sporting environments as well as answering some of your questions. If we didn't get around to yours today, we will the next time the Dr visits!

I read a study once that claimed players don't hit form for the first 14 months or something at a new club. Most players need a minimum of a year to fully settle

This is quickly turning into another fantastic weekly discussion 👏🏻

Another great episode Martyn and please pass on thanks to Dr Alex, it was very interesting to hear his views, particularly on my 'Dark Arts' question. Thank you very much for raising it with him. I was raised that such behaviour was NOT 'The Rangers Way' and I still believe that ethos remains within the club. However nowadays we're not just swimming against the tide but a tsunami of skullduggery Really enjoying the diversity of each episode and the range of subjects covered in this series. Great work Martyn. Our manager does have a very good understanding and respect for the subject of sports psychology. He's guested on numerous coaching podcasts previously. Well worth a listen to his views on it and the game. A great insight into how he wants his players to be and play.

Makes sense, it took me about a year and a change of manager to settle properly into my current job.

Another really interesting discussion, and thanks for asking my question. I guess that’s why you’re a successful author Martyn, turning my 100 word question into; “so, complacency?” which is exactly what I was asking! Brevity was never my strong point! Human factors is such an interesting area, I could listen to discussion on it and hear examples all day long.
