In the 60s, Gers' biggest star, Jim Baxter, missed big games due to National Service.....and he was based in Perth! He missed a big cup game at Ibrox when Motherwell beat us 5-2. I remember that well.

Re keepers, in my Gers watching time ( since 1960) I rate this as the top 5: Goram, McGregor, Klos, Woods then either Ritchie or McCloy.

I agree re a campaign for nicknames. In modern football it seems you just add a Y to the name eg Coisty, Wrighty, Greegsy - not exactly inventive! Bring back the likes of Toffee Bob, The Wee Society Man, Slim Jim.

Excellent show, many thanks. Alex MacDonald tells the story of seeing Bobby standing in the pouring rain on the terracing when the team paraded the ECWC in '72. That says it all about the man and his passion for the club. He was a great story teller: his explanation for Scotland's calamitous 9-3 defeat to England in 1961 was as follows: 'The trouble was the Orange ball we played the game with - me and Davie Wilson didn't want to kick it and Frank Haffey [Celtic goalkeeper] didn't want to touch it!' By the way, Bobby's last game was at Ibrox not Easter Road ( I was at it), and Doug Baillie was our player, not Aberdeen's.
