I know Nathan Redmond has done well in turkey recently but can see Kent being on loan to a championship club in January if he moves there

Charlie Nicolson

On Tillman, it won't break my heart if he leaves but I'm not going to prematurely ejaculate if he stays

Gregg

Wan Bissaka MK II - oh no 🙈

Scott Tolmie

Hope your right about tillman, it’s a no from me.

Andrew Hunter

Heard anything about Souness returning as a NED, Davie?

Graeme Heaney

Can’t get Simpson canyenero song out my head now after the intro song

Academy needs to stop bringing in time bandits.

Think we need to be realistic and say that the appetite for youth development to date has been nil. A few players in the time we have had the facility that was meant to promote our youth is about the same bit rate as Kent…. I would genuinely question if it’s worth the amount of offer made if there is no desire to actually play young guys. They keep talking about a route but we have guys like Lovelace who can get a game for Millwall but can’t even get a cup game here and there for us. Positive if we we make the change to proper youth integration and genuinely give chances.

Colin Mathie

Regarding Tillman, you don't say our league is terrible and then decide to stay in said league, he's away, its just a matter of time before the club announce it imo.

Scott Tolmie

I emailed davie lastweek saying we should just scrap the youth because we are horrendous at giving anyone a chance.

Spoon

Certainly seem to talk about youth opportunity more than actually give chances.

Gregg

If we can’t play against some of the dross we come up against at home and play a youth player alongside 10 experienced lads it’s a sad indictment

Roddy Cowie

I don't mind us spending a little bit of money on players coming through I Eg. Rice and I warrant that is a gamble but we should be looking to find talent early. Where I think we fall down is selling on players like Weston for small fees etc. Teams like Chelsea and Man city make fortunes off their academy players.

Andrew Mathieson

Looks like Kent is going to follow the Vlad Weiss whoever offers me the most money regardless of the league path. Which is fair enough.

These boys simply aren’t good enough. If they were, they’d go to Hearts or Hibs and tear it up. Instead, they barely end up with pro careers. The game rewards quality, not loyalty.

Spoon

You could well be right but I think our model is broken. Lovelace was getting 1st team games with Millwall in a league of pro’s we talk about them being kids when they are 20 or so, other teams just play them. I’m not saying you bank on 40 games out a 17 year old a season but you need to get them time on the park to temper them for the battle, we baby sit them they miss their window and then leave mostly.

Jamie Kirk

The type of footballer that goes to Turkey. Deli Ali

Matthew Howie

Is there any truth in the souness rumours davie?

Conor Brown

While I agree the vast majority have simply not been good enough, when we do have a pinch of natural ability & potential in our academy it gets absolutely pummeled out of them by our lack of a real development pathway, other clubs harness this and with a bit of luck and hard work turn it into a decent - good footballer that will either play or be sold, we simply don't. Lads like Kennedy, Ross McCrorie, Stephen Kelly, Mebude, McPake, Maxwell, Liam Kelly etc all had something clearly 'special' compared with their peers at youth level, we should be finding a way of getting these lads 5 - 15 appearances a season just to see if they kick on, instead we loan them to teams that barely train 3 days a week with part time coaches until they are about 23 and they miss their window to develop,, it really shouldn't then be a surprise they go backwards / don't develop. Lowry, Lovelace, Rice, King are just the next to drop off the end of the conveyor.

Spoon

Exactly my point bud, we talk about development but don’t actually do it. As I say we are still calling guys at 20 kids when in modern footballing terms they are anything but in most other leagues. My big bugbear these days is we seem to have forgotten the manager / coaches primary job which is to make a player with talent better as we buy or being through guys then immediately obsess over what they can’t do. The bit that’s missing is our coaching team either maximising their talent, teaching them how to improve the weaker areas of their game because if we can only use finished articles then we don’t have the money to compete but more importantly we are down grading coaching. Natural talent and attitude matters but my big fear is it’s been quite some time since we made a guy who came in with bags of talent better or more consistent. Kent, Morelos, Lundstrum, Sakala now guys like Matondo arrive with ability but we seem to either stall them or regress them!
