Club statement:

RANGERS can today announce Scott Arfield, Filip Helander, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor and Alfredo Morelos will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts this summer.

Steven Davis, whose contract is also expiring, remains in discussions to continue working with the club’s medical team to support his return to full fitness following a long-term ACL injury suffered in December 2022.

Glad that none of them have been retained. I couldn't understand the clamour around Arfield getting another year given he's barely featured under Beale. They've all been great servants for us the last 5-6 years (when fit in Helander's case) and that shouldn't be forgotten.

Nobody else out of contract, unless you mean Davis? It’s absolutely the correct thing to do to see him through his rehab and hopefully gets to run out at Ibrox again.

Had a feeling it would've been Jack or Arfield being kept on, important to have that type of character around the place. Arfields value on the park might have lessened but in the dressing I can imagine is massive.

There will be more leaving. You just don't announce in contract players are leaving unless they have a new club to go to. Kamara will defo be another.

Maybe expect the same number again to be moved on who are in contract. Kamara, Wright, McLaughlin, Davies, Sakala, Collar.

As for a standbye I valued Scott Arfield..he lifted a team and gave his all...if his wages were not too high I would have kept him. We need to thank the other players and remember them when they were at their best and the great games we enjoyed and wish them all the best.

The one I am most disappointed about is actually Helander. If fit he would have probably been a starter. The others it’s the right time to move on. On balance, right decision on all of them I think.

I totally agree about Davis! The rest are under contract, but would like to see Roofe, kamara depart also.

Would have kept arfield about but not too devastated bcos of it. More than happy to see the back of kent and Morelos, wages saved on helander aswell so overall more than happy

Good to see that Malky Thomson is being replaced as manager of the women’s team. We should be winning everything domestically with that squad. Pity he’s being kept on tbh.

Thank God it's been confirmed. This is a huge opportunity for us now to build a consistent winning team. I'm absolutely delighted this is happening and personally I think it should have been sooner for some of them.

I struggle with the concept of someone buying Roofe while he's injured. I think we've got him until his contract expires

It's not a coincidence IMO that the one domestic season where we've been outstanding has been when Helander and Roofe have (mostly) been fit throughout.

Yeah agreed. Goldson and Helander was definitely the strongest CB pairing since Gerrard came in. Such a case of what could have been if he’d been able to stay fit.

It really is poor practice or poor negotiating skills allowing Kent and Morelos run their contracts down, the warnings were there with Goldson. I’m hoping this is why some in our boardroom and management are no longer there

There’s a better alternate universe out there where the 2019 alfie didn’t go off the rails at the start of 2020 in terms of form, didn’t get dropped at Tyne castle by Gerrard for disciplinary issues , got his £20m move in summer 2020 and didn’t begin a slow (and not always straight line)decline to where we are now. There’s a much worse alternate universe where we didn’t sign him.

There is no estimated return date for Helander. I’m not sure he’ll play again full stop to be honest.

Always sad to see players leave, especially ones that have served us well, but I for one am very happy to see us having a refresh that is 2 years overdue. Will be there tomorrow to make sure Kent & Morelos leave but I might need someone to hold me if Arfield scores and salutes 😭

McGregor legend, he wouldn’t have been out of place in the 9iar team. Big fil could have been a club legend if he stayed fit. Kent good player, problem is he got found out and teams marked him out the game some pretty special moments. Buff a hero to the younger bears, some unbelievable moments. Scotty arfield good player, I would have kept him on. Steven Davis rangers legend and a wider football legend especially for his country. Guys like roofe, Wright, kamara, borna etc should be next if we are clearing the decks then let’s do it right. All have gave us some special moments like kamaras goal vs Leipzig, roofes goal vs Standard, bornas free kick vs st mirren, wrights second in the Scottish cup final. All pretty good moments. Refresh and let’s get our league title back from the dark side.
