The picture suggests it, the first internation match between Scotland & England.

Graeme McLeod

It wasn't uncommon in past decades - right up until and including the 90s - for teams to get promoted from the second tier to the top flight and immediately compete for or even win it. Sky TV money really changed that. Maybe Steven could look at some of the more interesting or famous examples of a team getting promoted then winning the top flight, or coming agonisingly close to it?

Alan Ryder

History of the Rangers support and the Scotland national team

Calum Stankey

Vould be an interesting point on the impact of the fall of the Berlin wall (and USSR) on football in Eastern Europe? The demise of the Red Star Belgrade, Steaua Bucharest teams etc?

Louch

I’d happily contribute my 2004-2014 attending games and why I walked away view to that if covered

Louch

English domination of Europe in 80s and why. The Scottish teams in European semis/ finals in 60/70s that no one talks much about.

Bradley johnson

Danish winning the euros Reals decima Simeone transforming Atleti

Stuart Sheils

Non football ones too! Your interviews with Marc Bubbs and Fergus Connelly were great- I use Bubb’s point around having a 2/10 day and getting them up to a 5 when I can’t be arsed at work 😂

Gary Q

Might be an audience of one 😂 but changes to the rules of football and the impact on the game? Introduction of cards, 90-minute games, goal dimensions, penalty shootouts, etc.

Adam Weir

A history of teams & grounds that no longer exist

Watson Bell

Garricha would be of interest, and Brazil side from 1958 through to 1970 appreciate the latter would have to be a multi parter

Pondo Sinatra

The rise of Ajax in the 60’s, through to its success in the 70’s & how that influence still pervades the game today in revised form. 🇬🇧

Stuart Sinclair

Could you cover Alexander Watson Hutton please?

Stuart Sheils

On the football topics: The fall of clubs, too many to mention but Stockport, FCSB/Steaua, Deportivo, Third Lanark, Dortmund etc Or my other suggestion- Why don’t we as a country produce the level of players we used to and what can be done to fix it (and maybe the failed attempts at it too…)

Love it. Would be good to get a fan perspective. Was a boyhood Scotland fan myself and used to go with my dad. Nowadays I rarely even know when Scotland are playing.

Alan Ryder

Rangers and Arsenal historic links?

Alan Ryder

Recently read a book on the history of football in Argentina - the Scottish links are really interesting

John Smith

Hi Steven, I’d love to hear your take on the Black Sox Scandal from 1919. Think you’d really enjoy it

Russ

Love the Atleti shout, I think they enriched the game instead of disgraced it.

Russ

Fairly recent but that golden period for Iceland would be brilliant to delve into, qualified for majors with a population smaller than Edinburgh pre nations league and tournament expansions.

Rick Goldsbrough

Loved the club history deep dives shows from the past - Leeds etc. More examples would be great.

Scott Watson

What are the biggest clubs that have vanished? How did it all go wrong for them?

Neil Wilson

Fall of clubs across the world. NFL stories such as the AFL merger with the NFL. Teams that have moved cities in the NFL, Tampa Bay's 0-26 record or the NFL strike of 1982 and the start of the USFL.

Scott Watson

What was the early story of going professional in football? Which countries did it first? What did people think about it at the time?

Scott Watson

How did the first world cup come about? What was international football like before that and how did it change?

Mark

Not sure this justifies a whole show but I'm curious about Greegs' one season at Besiktas. I've never heard anything about his time there.

Greg

Shock title winners

Just to be different, and triggered by your accompanying photo, what about the evolution of the game from 2 perspectives: - Firstly the tools of the trade (equipment - goal posts, balls, boots, etc), team numbers, field sizes, duration of matches. Secondly the governance of the game (national sporting bodies, FIFA, EUFA, etc).

CRAIG CASSELLS

We are endlessly told that England invented football but us Scots know differently, that we had a big hand in the early days of the game. A look at the profound Scottish influence on all aspects of the formation of the game, not just here in UK but also abroad, would be good.

Campbell Kilpatrick

How the British / Scots spread football to the world, in particular into South America? What about an alternative history - if Scottish football embraced various changes in the 80s and 90s, where might domestic football and Scotland national team be today? Could we have been in a better place or is there no strong counter factual case? Football matches which had profound knock on impact eg. started conflicts; political ramifications; caused nature of the game to change (eg move to all seater stadia) etc?

Scott Watson

Tycoons owning football clubs is nothing new, but Abramovich signalled the start (or maybe there were earlier examples?) of mega foreign money, and we've seen increasing trends of state-based ownership (PSG, Man City, Newcastle) and also "corporate sport" (Red Bull, Fenway Sports Group) We've also seen increasing american ownership, even in our parochial league Where is all this going? Is any of this changing the game itself, or is it just changing who's at the top? In particular, will the rising influence of american ownership see things start to drift towards some of the way US sports are organised?

Steven Harrigan

Thank you everyone. I will get to work on these amazing ideas.

Graeme

I’d love a detailed account of Jim Baxter’s career.

Mark Boyd

Stevie third Lanark would be great. My dad was a thirds fan and still with us so if you fancy I’m sure I could rumble the old boy together

Nicholas Dickson

When and how did the song no one likes us we don’t care start ? , was after something happened ?

Scott Watson

Why did the old 2-3-5 formation dominate for so long and how did the process of tactical innovation come about?

Andrew Lees

A realistic overview of legends of bygone days vs the reality of football today. For example, John Greig is bona fide legend but played through a Celtic 9 in a row, vs Tav who has had worse team mates but gets a hard press. Can there be a truly objective appraisal of yesteryear against today with our 24/7/365 no escape coverage of football?

Graeme Price

Auld Enemies: rivals from bygone eras and great challenges the Old Firm endured.

Allan Osborne

I'm another who'd love to hear a pod on Third Lanark. How a club with a decent sized support, who reached a League Cup Final in 1959/60 and were 3rd the following year could then so spectacularly collapse to relegation in 1965 and demise in 1967 is one of the scandals of Scottish football. Bill Hiddleston was one of the arch charlatans of the game 50 years before Whyte, Green and the Spivs, though he didn't get to enjoy the fruits of his endeavours. Sadly though a great old Scottish club was killed off thanks to him.
