Rangers form had been gradually slipping but dropping five points in two games really brought it home and started to bring fears that getting out of the division might not be as straightforward as we'd hoped. A crucial Boxing Day match with Hibernian would go a long way to deciding which side would be automatically promoted.

Join Dave, Stuart, Rob and David as they continue to chart Mark Warburton's spell as Rangers manager.

The defending was awful that season. As much as I understood why he didn’t want McGregor you do wonder if he would have improved the goals against?!

Gregg

Cummings movement that day was incredible

It's an interesting thought, overall I'd say he was certainly better than Kiernan but I think he might have struggled with the way Warburton played

Stuart (I think) made a comment about it becoming apparent that players like Holt and Halliday weren't good enough to take us where we wanted. That chimed. I remember the point I became really worried about Warburton's first season was when, just after the final, we announced that Holt and Halliday had signed contract extensions and Harry Forrester had been given a 2 year deal. It seemed wrong then, and still now. We didn't need to give extensions to keep them, they had done nothing to suggest they could be part of a title winning team. It made me worried for our recruitment. Which makes me wonder - when did we start to look at certain players and think 'they need to be upgraded for us to win 55?)

Haliday is on record dating Madden apologised for getting it wrong next time he had us and said it was his angle which made it look like he'd hit Fyvie. Never heard of a ref owning up for anything before so fair play

Pedro

The point on Dallas, he got better through his career with experience. The typical Scottish ref doesn't

Good show again and an enjoyable series, thanks lads. One thing always amazes me about this era and the historical (revisionist?!) views of it. Our defending was naive and even the basics were very, very poor. Our assistant manager? Sir David of Weir! What was he doing? We should have had a back four as tight as a drum. Why has he never received any stick for his part in this? Flashers & flasher mac. Hahaha - a blast from the past. I remember there were knicker nickers back then too!

David Marshall

I'll be honest, the three you mentioned I thought very well could be part of title-winning teams. Blinded at the time and also by hope and a desire to get back to the top as quickly as possible. I think when we went up, it became clear very quickly that we needed much better.

Gary Brown

Not in the slightest. Warbs for attack, Weir for defence. Everyone who ever played alongside Weir has nothing but praise for him, how much he taught them, improved their game and reading of the game. The really scary version is he WAS getting the very best out of them! 😉

When you see how season went don’t think you would have noticed massive difference. Especially when he moved Ball into midfield to try and help!

Didn’t zelalem not do his acl the year after us and then had issues ever since?
