Our full backs are giving me anxiety attacks at least 10 times a game! Needs addressed. Cant keep allowing the full backs to be so exposed. Just defend. Do the simple thing. Boot it oot when needed!!

William George Bell

Pressing poor, no discernible style of play. Fullbacks very poor. Worrying.

Jamie Kirk

Are we threatening up front? We have scored 6 goals in 4 games, and 3 have been penalties, 2 of them were defensive errors form the opposition giftinf us a goal and 1 was a very good goal. That 1 very good goal is the only time in 4 games that we have created and finished a move that resulted in a goal. 1 time. That’s not great. Can we defend? We have conceded 8 goals in 4 games. So the answer is a clear no. Hopefully and I this is my trying to be positive, it’s just the old pre season games don’t tell the whole story thing going on. That pre season hasn’t filled me with belief that Beale has found a formula. Let’s see come Saturday and the following Wednesday.

Allan

Pre-season or not, somebody needs to tell Mr. Butland we did not get a result today.

Nicky Cuzin

Glad preseason is over as it’s been very discouraging. The only new guy so far looking like making an impression is Lammers, others not so much and even he is a downgrade on Kent in my opinion as he plays for himself and Kent played for the team. Fingers crossed I’m super wrong, but as of today I can’t see us qualifying for UCL group and challenging for the league

Jim Milne

You can't add this many new players and expect them to gel in a few preseason games. We knew it was a rebuild, there are many positives and many concerns but I have faith that Beale is the right man for us. Some very astute signings and it's still clear we need many to leave. A new central defender is needed but with the size of the squad I can't see it being sanctioned without a sale or wages freed up. I'm excited for the league, but nervous for European games this early in a brand new team.

Al H

Is Adam Devine an option at left back?

Scott Tolmie

The tav problem has been problem all pre season, the shape is another problem and moving guys like cantwell to the left is another, you cannot play 3 no 10s, it does not work, we have no width or pace

David

It’s not been a great pre season but I’m not going to set the world of fire. It’ll take time and we’ll need to grind out results until things click. The defence obvs needs a rocket but hopefully we can move players on and use that to get a few replacements. Could we play with a 433 then have two 10s begins to accommodate Cantwell and Lammers behind either Danilo / Dessers? For me something along: Cifuentus; Raskin; Dowall Lammers; Cantwell Danilo/Dessers Could even have Jack in for Dowall to become more defensive. I think Beale may choose Lundstram but he slows the game down in midfield, like today. We could even try both Dessers and Danilo with either lammers / Cantwell behind Time is required

Scott Tolmie

Zero width with that formation, teams are just going down our sides because we are playing 2 10s inside, 3 teams have exploited the same problem

Spoon

The problem is those that have raised issues with this team in the past are seeing them re-appear this season and feel frustrated that many see this as negative or over reacting. Those that have faith in Beale continue to have faith but its really just that, faith at this point as there is little in terms of the style, output or intensity thats changed. Too many of the same faces we know have errors in them are making the same mistakes. The new signings while individually good are now starting to look as if we might have pieces that don’t quite all fit together or at least we might struggle to use them all at the same time effectively. This system doesn’t currently seem to be working and my fear remains Beale is wedded to an idea that works on a magnetic board or one of Adam’s fancy apps but doesn’t work in real life. We seem to currently have a plan that relies on opponent being passive and allowing us to do what we want without the realisation they will also have a plan that might negate ours. Probably the biggest issue is our expectation and desire for momentum being taken away. The fans rightly go into every season willing to reset and get excited again, its an entertainment industry after all, but the positivity generated by change, signings and a chance to right last seasons issues doesn’t seem to have been grasped. I wasn’t convinced by Beale coming back but I was more than happy with the summer chat from him and his signings all seemed to be quality and sensible but I’m really struggling to ignore not just the lack of goals but that the chance creation is poor. This midfield still doesn’t seem to be creating the chances the strikers need in the right places and its not like our attacking sacrifice is translating into a rock solid defence so its hard to see where this system is delivering. I personally would like to move to the 3-5-2 and try and use more of the talent we have middle to front, any striker we play always gets left isolated and its unfair on them to be expected to deliver goals when the service is so poor over the course of a game. I see people appeals for time, fair comment but the reality is that we have very very little and we know from how the points rack up domestically there is minimal room for error. We need dramatic improvement now, we can’t take until the turn of the year to gel or we will be behind in the league and probably struggling in Europe. It’s not doom and gloom but there are genuine concerns, lets hope they are resolved quickly and we kick on, Rugby Park isn’t a great platform to do that though and any dropped points there and the pressure will really mount. No team in the league will make it easy for us as we try and find our form.

Graeme Dempster

Always hearing these guys are 2/3/4 weeks behind.. do they not do a preseason at their old clubs??

Ryan Stewart

Not sure I can ever remember such a strong reaction to pre season. Not necessarily on here but on Rangers social media in general and I’ve been guilty of it myself tbh. Granted it’s not been great but i think there was always gonna be an adjustment period to the amount of change we’ve seen. It does raise an interesting question as to what fans actually want from pre season? Do we want to play tough teams who are going to challenge us and get us ready for the league and early qualifiers? Or do we want to play easy games against teams who we will beat 3/4 - 0 and build confidence among the fans? Think I’d rather the former personally, especially when integrating a lot of new players. It’s good for these guys to come up against a little bit of adversity together. It should help them grow as a team. Confident enough the attacking side of things will come, defensively there’s work to be done no doubt. I do think this again highlights the importance of Connor Goldson to this team. It’s not even debatable at this point that we are a significantly worse team when he isn’t in it. Hopefully he’s back asap.

Billy Forrester

The reaction on rangers pages on social media is horrendous, a reason I only choose to interact with decent sensible people on this site, real fans with a decent knowledge. Half the idiots that comment on rangers pages wouldn’t know the way to Ibrox, absolute clueless clowns. 1st half was very poor, much better 2nd half, positives are lammers and thought Danilo looked good and will cause mayhem in the SPL. Left back a real issue at moment, not a borna fan and like yilmaz however he doesn’t look good at moment, maybe Dijon sterling will be tried in this position as our left side is causing huge issues. I’ve every confidence in this new squad and once they settle and get used to each other we will be just fine . I also think the influence of Goldson in defence is huge and he is sorely missed, we be fine when him and Souttar are together, my 1st choice pairing

Gary Shaw

Yilmaz made Barasic look good and that’s going some….all 4 games are as disjointed and lopsided as you’re likely to see…here’s hoping they’re on it next Saturday 🤞

Ryan Stewart

Yeah true. I’m at the stage especially on twitter where I’m just muting a lot of accounts now. The constant negativity and nit picking everything the manger or players say is just exhausting. We all demanded major change, we’ve got it. Let’s back it and give it a bit of time before we write everyone off

C. J

Are we surprised the boys look lethargic and coming down with bugs? All this fannying about on tours for pre season is crap. The club probably barely benefit from it whatsoever materially and the effects of these trips end up hampering our early season. Makes no sense man.

John McTrusty

I was a typical child of the sixties, always out playing football until it was dark and time to go home. Many of my mates were light years ahead of me in natural ability, but I can confidently say, there are several players in our team that would have been last pick for a game down the park on the Southside. ( Tom Thumb at left back) A few things trouble me, we don't play to the whistle, too many are slow in the head(Ryan Jack John Lundstrum), and too many lightweights are unwilling to commit to tough tackles. I appreciate that the game has changed, and rules and referees have been cleansing the physical aspects of the game. You don't need to be technically brilliant to be a winner. Sadly, I don't see the characteristics of winners in too many of our squad. It will be interesting to see if the manager can take journeymen and turn them into winners.

Spoon

Playing devils advocate…. Isn’t it a worry the team succeeds or fails based on one player ? Yes some of the extreme reaction is OTT but there is room for both concern and optimism particularly with issues that span seasons, if the team, manager and players had a track record of winning then things might be different but that’s not the case and we are in danger of sounding like the tartan army with near misses and glorious failures. It’s not Armageddon but how many seasons can we go underperforming before people are allowed to criticise ?

Tamus

Concerned

Scott Tolmie

Rangers fans just calling how it is, full backs are murder, absolutely no debate, formation murder, zero width, of course we will get better. Players are clearly absolutely knackered, will be more energetic for league campaign. Ive seen rangers be excellent in pre season and win nothing and vice versa, nobody will remember pre season if we win well next weekend

George Higgins

I’m worried. Just as Warburton asked too much of central defenders i think Beale is of full backs. I think we have no defensive width. Either we replace both full backs with players who have more physicality and power or we need more cover from midfield or possibly both. If not I fear it’ll be a long season. I’m sure Beale sees this too and will address it.

Angus Mackay

The overreaction in pre season to an almost entirely new team trying to get fit and gel together has been far more dispiriting than watching the actual team. Clearly there's plenty of work still to do and we could still do with a good quality LCB, but there are lots of encouraging signs. If Dessers had be sharp today we would have won handily. The UCL qualifier will come too early for such a radically altered team; I'm ok with that as it's not realistic to do anything in the CL this season anyway (given the size of our overhaul). My bigger worry is that the (suspiciously early) OF comes too soon too, but we'll just have to see how we go.n Beale clearly has a plan and buy in from the players, let's just get behind them.

Graham Jones

There’s a lack of communications the moment in defence. Maybe with Goldson missing it’s more obvious. I don’t see the others in the back four as great communicators, but we shouldn’t have to rely on Goldson for defensive organisation. Yilmaz hasn’t shown enough defensively for my liking, but he has time on his side. He’s very good going forward, but I haven’t seen a defender in him at all. We look so short of players at the back, so why haven’t they put aside money to strengthen there this summer is my question. Our defending last season was very poor, so why no investment there? Sterling might prove to be a greta signing, but Balogun was brought in as a stop gap, not the type of signing we needed in there. Lundstrum wasn’t too bad in there, but he’s another stop gap. That isn’t the answer we need if we are to progress in the Champions League to the group stages. I just don’t see the club signing any more players, unless money comes in the other way, and even then it will be minimal.

John Palmer

It's funny how Lammers is the player when brought in, raised a lot of eybrows but it is he who has been the standout player during this Pre Season. The players that have come in that caused the most excitement, have much to do. Players I think that can go are definitely Lundstrum and Yilmaz. Big John has been a liability on too many occasions and doesn't seem to be getting any better. He had 1 good Season when we went to the Europa Lge Final and that's it. Yilmaz. Where do I start. He's lightweight, he tries to be too flashy which causes him to lose the ball a lot, he plays backwards too much when he should be bombing up the wing and he just cannot defend. For me Barisic is better as his delivery going forward is tried and tested. Yes, he also has his faults but I feel better when he is on the pitch and Yilmaz is not.

Greg

the last week has seen the heat really turned up on borna and now after a bad performance ridvan isn't the clear answer that's been echoed all over social media for the last few months. The manager needs to sort it.

Gregg

People are allowed to criticise - I find a lot of it incredibly dull and tend to not bother with it. But hey, I’m an optimist. I’d recommend to anyone to delete their social accts - at least for a while - and see how you go. It’s incredibly liberating.

Alan Cooper

Would be really interested to hear a pod from Adam and co on how we could structure the midfield 3 and front 3. Interesting hearing Beale saying Cifu is more of a right side no.8 and with Raskin or Jack at no.6 leaves Dowell or Raskin as the left side midfielder. He will want to play Dessers and Danilo together so I’ve no clue how he gets Lammers and Cantwell in the same team. Nice problem to have I suppose

Spoon

I find the blind faith Uber staunch the same, if it’s not about sharing views, especially alternative views, then it’s a bad day. If every post was a statement with a 1000 likes and thumbs up it wouldn’t be much of a forum. Of course I have understand that’s simply my own view….

Heart and Hand

Gregg - I’d rather speak to someone who was positive than the guys who can’t wait to label everything shit so they can turn round in a couple of months and say ‘I told you all!’ if it goes wrong. That’s so boring and so easy. It’s perfectly okay to say we weren’t great in pre-season but expect us to get better. It’s not unreasonable for a supporter to have hope and look for positives rather than constantly be whining and demand others do too. It’s supposed to be fun. If it isn’t for people that’s unfortunate but when they try to suck everybody else down into their misery, that’s where I check out. There’s always another game. Look, assess, move on.

Heart and Hand

Spoon - I think we have a healthy balance on here. The biggest thing is people are willing to chat rather than fly off the handle. On social media it seems nobody stays on their handle for long! And it’s not like arguments over subjective things can ever be resolved anyway.

Gregg

Been listening to the advocaat season last week - when we have proper proper footballers. And they took time to gel. Ultimately we don’t know what’s going to happen - we have some okay fixtures in august. I’d rather be optimistic and be proved wrong - least I have the hopeful period. To be clear spoon - I’m far from Uber staunch, not sure if that was a general statement. Sunny side up and all that

James Anderson

I cant help feeling we play better without John Lundstrum. I can see Lammers being an upgrade on Tillman.

Spoon

100% but it’s never nice to be told how you should feel, there a healthy balance in between happy clapping and torches with pitchforks, just personally never felt like telling someone else how they should feel. I have had my mind change on here many many times and seen things different ways after discussion which is what it’s all about, I welcome it, it’s healthy. Don’t feel it’s useful to try and undermine a view as nonsense much rather get into why someone thinks it in this case to my mind the argument can be made there are both positives and negatives in pre-season it’s not polarised. Not saying you did invalidate or undermine David and the majority dont. Believe it or not I’m pretty optimistic but also pragmatic, if something isn’t working let’s admit it and make the required change doesn’t mean someone has to be blamed (unless it’s repeated failings) or it was wrong to try but to fear critique or see it as only negative I think is unfair. Elite sports is about not resting but striving for better, improving incrementally, improvement suggests things aren’t always perfect to a greater or lesser degree. We talk about being built on success at the club, about being the best, we should never fear admitting when we can do things better or hide from problems. Love to read folk make their point with passion but keenly aware it’s only their / my point with none more right or wrong than another…..except a guy on the post at corners, if you don’t believe in that there’s a special hell for you.

Alan Ryder

New car pod song is 😘

Alan Ryder

Cantwell and Lammers giving me Barry and deBoer vibes

Gregg

Personal view - call it happy clapping if you will - is the club have done what we asked. There has been a huge influx of player and we appear to have ‘tooled up’ especially in the forward areas - with the players on the main coming in early. There will inevitably be a settling in period and we may need to dig out some results early doors - prior to the pre season this seemed to be accepted. Then after a couple of poor results - this has been thrown out the window. Let’s get behind the team and enjoy the progression - it’s what we all wanted. It was never going to be a lift and drop - there will be bumps

Jock Paterson

Is that the cast of Aufwiedersein, Pet doing the new music 😬

Spoon

All fair and I 100% agree but doesn’t stop there still being concerns (nothing more dramatic than that) about a lack of goals or systemic / shape issues. My point remains it doesn’t have to be extremes, you can be neither all in nor all out there’s loads of middle ground and zero need to pick a camp or hill to die on. Personally I’m on board with the recruitment and have been an advocate of dropping dead wood for a number of years. I’m still not convinced by the shape and tactics but more than willing to be convinced. Beale isn’t gash by a long shot but for me at least he isn’t the tactical genius some others believe. As a general point why does there always need to be a settling in period with every single player? Surely the odd one can hit the ground running ? You would think if you pick a player to suit the squad and style that would be be even more likely, the idea it’s inevitable therefor everyone should just expect it is exactly the type of thing I disagree with. There are no absolutes and I think it’s fair to expect us to be showing a bit more intent regardless of results, I see a lot of folk playing up the opposition as teams who are better than us or of great quality but I’m not convinced we draw any inEurope over the last few years and we don’t fancy our chances of a win over two legs. If we are worried about Hoffenheim that’s not a plus in my humble opinion, them carving us open while we fall over ourselves similar to how we shipped goals last season must give slight concern? Don’t think anyone needs to be reminded to get behind the team, that’s not what’s being discussed what is being highlighted are some perennial concerns specifically with some players and output. I suspect as I have suggested to you before we aren’t going to agree, which don’t mind at all 👍🏻
