Rangers 2-1 Morton Postmatch Reaction 19 Aug 2023

Rangers are through to the next round after an uninspiring win at Ibrox.

Ohwell my brothers record still remains, the last Morton player to score the winner at ibrox, poor performance today

Stephen Grant

Tough watch today , lots of questions and not much answers , Yfekos tackle though

Allan

Given Hagi's comments post-match, he's clearly frustrated he's not playing, and given Lammers' poor performance in the last couple of matches, it's not hard to see why. Those repeated comments "Look, I'm a simple guy I just want to play football. They know what I can do, I have nothing to prove" make me feel he might want away this window.

Have we really got a dedicated specialist set-piece coach?

Graham Jones

They need to up the tempo every week, which seems to be a problem we have at times. When we play at pace we are a different side, but we have to be professional enough to play any side that way, because you can always slow it down if you go a few goals up. The finishing has been a concern. We’ve created enough chances since Kilmarnock, but our forwards need to start helping themselves to more goals now. There’s no point in going apeshit, because we won the game, but there are players who need to increase their efforts and understand that we play at pace or we don’t play at all. All good sides play at pace these days, and we need to get into the mindset of doing so whether in training or games. It’s a question of professionalism.

Not been funny but said this for a few years, actually used to practice this when coaching rangers sup bc. Can be this difference from scoring a goal or conceding.

Al H

Spot on! 3 big units playing today - Yfeko, Balogun and Goldson - which should have been to our advantage. Hard to play through low blocks at home. Corners and throws need to be exploited.

Donald Mackay

You will never get tempo with this version of Lundstram playing in midfield. It was pretty much a scratch team. Don’t read too much into it. Also, the full-backs had no dynamism. When Devine came on the whole thing changed. We need to chill a bit.

Donald Mackay

Virtually every player we signed since Beale came in talked about the vision he sold them and their buy in to it. Could it be that these guys know more than us? They certainly know more than me. Give it time. Maybe it won’t work, until, suddenly, it does.

Angus Mackay

I think the manager is right, Dessers is getting there. There were more moments of quality from him today than in his previous appearances. He's not there yet, but we're starting to see what he's about. If we give this a bit of time, we will be well rewarded. Demanding that forward players who were struggling elsewhere come straight into a new Rangers team and click immediately as a brand new frontline isn't realistic, we will need to be a bit patient. I hope Hagi starts getting game time, he looks and sounds hungry.

George Higgins

We really cannot take anything from a game where we made 8 changes from the previous one. We are in the next round and some guys got a rest and some didn’t. That’s it.

Scott Tolmie

Lol, I would assume I’ll go to my grave and that record will remain, im 45 and my bro is around 61 now. A record I’m hope stays for a long time, watp

Tamus

I completely agreed with Colin on Friday. Play your stating X1, rattle in 3, then make the Subs, but alas NO

Doug Young

Would be a tragedy to lose him. Most technically able player we have by far.

Allan Osborne

It was a long time ago and I'm over it now 😄. Seriously, I remember your brother well. Good player in a good Morton team that also included the likes of Andy Ritchie, Neil Orr and John McNeil. Games against them were always tough, not least the 1981 Scottish Cup SF. I bet some on both sides of that game still carry the scars 🥴

Allan Osborne

We always take forever to get going and leave the opposition with hope till way too late in the game. Blow them away early doors and then take your foot off the gas. We do it the wrong way.

The big issue is it’s not a new problem and it started when Beale was here last time, I could live with never hearing ‘half time reset’ ever again….
