Andy, obviously Barak Bakhar is now at Red Star Belgrade. Are there any coaches in Israel who you think could do well at Rangers ?

Tom McDavid

The captaincy issue is a massive “Red herring”. Stripping Tav of the armband would not help and in fact could be detrimental.

Scott

Leave Greenock alone! It’s not our fault it’s pish! 😂

Greg

Stripping tav of the captaincy would do nothing except pander to an element of absolute weirdos with "never a captain" tattoos

Martin Boyd

Poor old Liverpool being left with only about £300 m in forward talent if he goes 🤣🤣

Doug

Time will be good to Tavernier, once he's retired and people can look back at his time with us without the emotion and without the baggage, his true quality will really shine though. An excellent player during a poor era. The 'No Captain' jibe has been repeated so often for some it's like an unconscious reaction. You don't need to look too hard to see the marks of his leadership though. After the Motherwell game (4-2) where Cantwell scored they asked him about it in the post-match interview. He said "Tav has been hammering me about playing higher up and making sure I’m not just on the ball and making passes from behind but getting on the end of them." He went on a scoring run after that. The accolades are, when you sit and lay them out, undeniable though. A career with 114 goals at time of writing, 61 from open play. Jelavic and Prso combined only managed 71 (and that includes any penalties they got!). This puts him in the Top 10 Highest Scoring Defenders of all time. Alone that'd be a record to be proud of, but that's before you get to his 132 career assists as well. He took us to the UEL Final as the tournaments top scorer, with many key goals throughout the knock out stage. He's currently our third highest European goal scorer of all time, likely to become second this season. I believe he has the most goals in a single European campaign for Rangers as well. Then there's the countless matches in the league where we've been huffing and puffing, gone one nil (or more) down early doors and needed someone to step up and get us back into the game. Time and time again, it's been him. He's not without his flaws, which we are slowly seeing more of as father time takes his toll. So can be said for every player. But even with those creaks, as of writing, he's still our top goal scorer, still scoring vital European knock out tie goals and still settling the team by nicking the ball, running the length of the park and knocking in a worldy. People might not realise it now, but we're going to miss him when he's gone.

Heart and Hand

Personally, you should never strip the captaincy mid-season. All it does is humiliate the old one and cause division. Summer, up to the manager.

Simon H&H

Strip the captaincy? Wild. This isn’t the car pod now.

Ben Laing

Lets back Beale guys, he will turn this around. He's not had a huge amount of time but our own negativity can have a significant impact on the park. We need to come together and we will do this.

Colin Mathie

Tavs our top scorer, do folk not see the problem with that? lol

Colin

Interesting discussion regarding Heart and Hand’s coverage of the OF game and podder’s opinions as to whether the manager can turn this around. Personally, Im of the same opinion, that he probably cant and we should cut our losses. I did wonder at the time though, when H&H gave their honest view, as to whether they (because of how popular the site has become) need to consider their influence among the support. Is it something they consider first, or just say what they honestly think regardless of how it could have influence on an unhappy support?

michael Cochrane

pass the sick bucket the fawning still over Tav and his record is vomit inducing ! Serial loser and won’t ever be considered anything else

michael Cochrane

And started his losing mentality under Warburton ! He cost the goals in the Scottish cup vs Hibs ! If you don’t believe it go watch it again

Colin Mathie

The fans negative reaction to Beale after Sunday is because the majority of us don't have a clue what style of play he is trying to implement on the park, and im willing to bet the players don't either, hell he doesn't even know his best 11.

Gregg

Spot on - our support has a massive stauner over the armband. It matters not a jot who wears it. It’s a complete nonsense

scott burnett

The question on what will happen when he inevitably loses if we go on a run, I think comes down to how we lose. We were limp in the last two games. I think if we had lost to them after having a high energy pressing performance it would have been no place near as bad a reaction as it was.

Gregg

If you’d added “by me” at the end fair enough. As it is it’s an extremely arrogant comment.

Heart and Hand

No we just give our opinions. If we ever start toning it down or changing it people will see through that in a microsecond. I think fans can smell inauthenticity a mile off.

Greg

Captained us to a European final and lifted our most important title.

Andy Barnett

Speaking personally and not for any of the other podders, I don’t and haven’t ever considered how my opinion will influence other Rangers fans. Admittedly, i try to be as reasoned as possible in how I deliver my views but it’s all entirely authentic. Either way, I’m not sure our opinions will majorly affect the vast majority of folks who already have their minds made up.

Andy Barnett

Not really. Robbie Keane has started very well at Maccabi TA but obviously will never be a candidate for us. Bakhar was a once in a decade managerial talent for Israeli football who I would’ve loved to see at Rangers

Graeme McLeod

Plus leaders don't need an armband to lead. Some of the senior players of the 2002/03 treble winning team have referred to Amoruso as the leader of the team even though he'd been stripped of the captaincy years prior. If you need a piece of cloth to make you a leader, you're not a leader; the lack of leaders in the team isn't down to who is wearing that armband. And frankly the leadership vacuum goes above the players themselves at this point too.

Gregg

Saudi window ‘slams shut’ this week - per sky

Doug

The problem isn't so much that he's regularly top scorer (pens obviously give him an advantage), it's that far too few of our players get anywhere near close to him. There's usually, one maybe two at best (historically Kent & Morelos). The one year we had multiple people up into those numbers was the year we won the league. As Andy says above, the thing that really gets me, is people seem to somehow blame Tav for this, just because he's captain. Instead of people saying "Why can't the rest of our team hit those levels?" they are saying "Tav's got a loser mentality we'll never win with him." I just can't wrap my head around it.

David Campbell

Clearly the manager is going to be here for the next batch of games. Roll on Saturday week am still a little bit pissed off but missing the Rangers 😂 it's now or never gaffer go and prove us all wrong.

Doug

I'm all for criticism where due, so I'm genuinely keen to understand, from your perspective, what makes Tavernier specifically as an individual a 'serial loser'. So that is to say, without referring to Rangers as a club's lack of trophies (as that's to do with the combined team/management performance), what is it about Tavernier's individual, specific contribution that hasn't been good enough in your eyes? Not enough goals, not enough assists? Do you think he should be staying back and taking a defence only stance? Do you think that other players don't play to their best specifically because there is something Tav is/isn't doing as a leader?

Doug

This is what I don't understand though... it's exactly of use. We need goals, we need assists, we need people who can grab games by the scruff of the neck and drag us through them. We need these things to win games, to win titles. So I can't understand why so many people (and I'm not saying you, just in my general experience) blame the team's lack of goals, assists and performances at the feet of the one person actually delivering, instead of criticising the players who aren't contributing to that level. If we had midfielders and forwards delivering just half of what Tavernier does on his own, we'd be wiping the floor the league.

John McIntosh

By all means criticise him for his recent performances but bringing a game 7 years ago to justify your criticism is just weird behaviour.

Jim

You were talking how to solve the transfer window problem, an idea a friend of mines had when china and Turkey’s was open longer than ours was that the transfers both in and out should end on deadline day. Also no releasing players outwith the window

Hendi

Calm down with talking up McCrorie, he did well in a few games. The current manager also did well in those games as did John Souttar and they're hardly setting the world alight now! We are far too quick to build players up and raise expectations to a level they barely meet. That contributes to discontent, impatience and frustration further down the line.

Hendi

Reserve judgment until they've proven one way or another! Give a balanced judgment, based on a more substantial body of evidence. We had Souttar lauded as some kind of modern day Baresi, when recent evidence suggests he's more akin to Shane Duffy. Yilmaz, Raskin, Mattondo etc all similar levels of hype, but so far unable to back it up.

Andy Barnett

Not too sure if you heard our full points on McCrorie, but we both conveyed our expectations that he’s not at Butlands level right now and may never be while he’s at Rangers. So while most of the mood surrounding our club right now is horrible, you can stay ‘calm’ while I enjoy the prospect of a future talent.

Hendi

I could post a list as long as my arm of "future talent" at Rangers over the last 30 years. I wouldn't even need all the fingers on one hand to list those that lived up to the hype. We never learn, whether its talking up youth or getting carried away with new signings, when the vast majority end up utter disappointments.

Simon

Yes, when we inevitably drop more points or go out the league cup to Livi, please just open with - our players are shite 😂. I’m of mindset similar to the lower league seasons, acceptance of being shite. Will always back the team but belief is sub zero as long as Beale is in charge. 🎶The cry was the team are shite.

Gregg

I thought andy suggesting he could be as good as McGregor or Gordon was a stretch - decent as he is.

Simon

I’m always trying to look for silver linings. As there are known to be found on the park, there is at least more interaction than there has ever been before on here.

Heart and Hand

Not without playing and he won’t play here. I’m happy with him as a no 2 though. Wouldn’t stun me if he leaves in January though.

Stuart F

If we had to list our problems just now, Tav wouldn't be in the top 10, at least. Did anyone see any improvement when he didn't play against Morton?

Colin McL.

To our PR experts: Do the Club address all of the speculation, be it through a general conversation with Bisgrove where this is just one of the topics - or does that come off as the dreaded 'vote of confidence'? Or do they ignore the noise and allow the vacuum to be filled by rumours?

stefan strzelecki

On Sunday the lack of cohesion , performance , combined with game management , corruptible officiating , led me to feel that change was the only way forward. I still feel the process of elation, then deflation from var interventions became influential in the anger of supporters. Right now there is a devious pleasure being derived by the Tim’s and their rancid media . At the critical evaluation of our players and management team. I think for all of our perceived intrinsic understanding of football. There is not a pundit, journalist or supporter who has a greater understanding of our players, football coaching, formations, or tactics than Beale . I say this with the greatest respect. I also feel the role of a Rangers manager should demand respect , and dignity, from Rangers supporters. Some of the venomous diatribe being directed at our management team and players on wider platforms has been disgusting. This division only serves to help our opponents . I think we need to trust the manager , players, and board to their word. I don’t think there will be a more diligent manager in this league to advance our club. For these reasons I hope to see Rangers progress through this horrid transition , stronger, hungrier, and more determined together.

Spoon

In 8 years Tav broke double figures three times the other years he was 8s and 9s or low single figures. The myth around Kent or Morelos isn’t backed up by actual goals scored. Kent scored low to medium single figures and one year managed 10 goals. Morelos had one season of 18 goals the other years he was down about 12. Our ‘heroes’ of recent years are all judged by very low standards and that’s the biggest issue. We now hail guys for being slightly less bad than the rest. I quite like Tav, I don’t think he makes a great or bad captain but I also don’t believe the armband doesn’t matter. A bland captain might not do damage but in a sport of marginal gains and seeking every advantage a good captain might be the difference in some games.

michael Cochrane

I’ve criticised him for 7 years not just a game from 7 years ago ! One. title and cup just glorious from our captain ..

Spoon

Always found the H&H experience positive and the podders in the main without any agenda bar being honest about what they think. I think the fact it’s not an echo chamber is a good thing, you get the odd person whose entrenched but we all are about certain things. Mostly the content in Rangers pods across the board from all content creators is pretty similar to what you see at work or hear whe speaking to fans, rarely is any player or manager universally loved bar the greats, it’s why they are the greats. Always appreciated the posts here as a chance to unload your concerns and frustrations and get a feel for how others see it, it’s moderated my views or changed my mind on stuff or in some cases confirmed I wasn’t the only one thinking something. Given the benefits of the free mental health valve that is the discussion here I think hearing the odd jarring take on something is a small price to pay. Certainly heard people talk passionately or argue their case as podders here but very rarely has it ever seemed like trying to influence beyond you trying to convince your mates of your view point.

Spoon

Think you always need to address an issue even if it’s difficult, if you don’t it seems like denial and a lack of ownership or control. The wait and see or dignified silence approach rarely works or makes you look strong. The whole issue currently is about a real lack of football leadership, if the board also can’t show any that’s a bad state of affairs. If he’s your man back him and live or die by it, if he isn’t then be honest. If we can’t buy into the team you need to buy into the board and vice versa since footballs all about hope, belief and faith in your club.

Craig

If we dont have Euro games he will definitely be off.

David Baillie

Great show lads. Does anyone know if the Saudis are subject to Financial Fair Play rules and if so, how on earth would they meet the criteria? Our club has frequently been mentioned in dispatches with respect to FFP. How could that be possible?

Jamie Kirk

The frustration comes from 1 year of ZERO progression on the pitch. Same issues different players. Toothless. That’s Beale.

Alan Colligan

Devil's advocate here, but do we not need defenders who can keep clean sheets against decent opposition?

Andrew Hillis

Saudi transfer window shuts tonight!

Alan Colligan

Are folk still trying to argue that our 'leadership group' who are about to get their 2nd manager sacked aren't a hindrance?

Doug

In general their defensive record was pretty decent until the UCL came about. This was a group who set a record for the least amount of goals conceded across a league season lest we forget. They are clearly capable, but their seems to have been a significant loss of confidence and increased number of individual errors. Maybe cause so many people seem to hate them so much lol While Gio did good things with the team in Europe, I’m concerned about the impact of his man management & I’m not sure it’s been rectified as of yet. His interview after the Ajax came was a white flag & from then on it feels like that white flag feeling permeated in difficult games. Tav lifts the team a lot in key moments but teams need multiple players to galvanise. With Goldson out for so long, plus players like Kent & Alfie who used to galvanise not firing, we were light on inspiration. Cantwell came in & Tav helped him to become a new lieutenant in that way by scoring goals. He became a new light & I’m hoping other players can chip in too as that’s the only way we’ll push on.

Georgie Porgie

On the subject of club captain i feel club have backed themselves into a corner in some ways putting tav into hall of fame whilst still playing in my opinion wrong. It gives any manager no scope for a change of said captain. Personally i think tav might feel relief of said armband and focus on his contribution to the team with his goals etc

Georgie Porgie

Who would be the man to take it up would be a very difficult choice but in my eyes not goldson i would ere on souttar? Butland ?

Craig Watson

Scotty Arfield still owes me a favour.

Gary Brown

Thanks for the update guys. I agree with Tom.

William Carson

Blaming tav is just far too simplistic. It’s the leadership group (Goldson, jack etc) who help set the standards and mentality within the squad. The problem with our mentality runs deeper than tav.

Colin McL.

Well, it looks like the Club did break their silence via the Chris Jack article. And only muddied the waters further…

Tom

I'm not saying that we should burn down any opposition stadia, but there's one I could probably dismantle with my multi tool.😂
