Some real positives tonight, CBs, clean sheet, Lundstram and something to build on. Showed good fight and manager made an impact at half time clearly. Feel that we’ve played better over the last 4 years in this competition against better sides. First half was shocking though and overall feel we just lack a bit of conviction.

Scott Gall

A wee bit of Oasis on a Thursday, just the ticket

Karl Waring

Grew into the game really well after a rough start, excellent result from the Famous.

John Smith

No one can say now that Mick hasn’t won a big game

Graham johnston

Nice to win a big match again. It seems a long time since we won a big game that mattered.

Doug Young

Great shout, Alex. Midfielders all gave the ball away at times but also worked really hard. Think Lundstram owes Butland a couple of pints for rescuing him when he cocked up. Surprised Davies not mentioned in MoM, thought he was immense.

John

Sorry I thought we were poor. First half long ball tactics no midfield pretty much the same as what we have seen no improvement and very poor ball retention

David Blackbourn

Thanks lads. Let's be honest Thursday night European football is our level and tonight was still a great result. We'll be waking up tomorrow with a spring in our step. Great start to the weekend.

Graeme Smith

Still nothing to cling on to performance wise. Can’t beat a press, no option from defence into midfield meaning we have to go long more often than not. ….and Sima and Matondo starting after another summer rebuild.

Think Betis were over hyped, pretty even match up, lots of good, fair bit of concern in terms of just holding and moving the ball but a great result given our form and issues. Let’s not over egg things as we need to see consistency from players across a full 90 minutes never mind a run of games.

Steve23

There was a lot of pressure on the manager tonight, given our finances, past performances in this competition and start to the domestic season, the UEFA cup is absolutely anything but a free hit, sorry but miles out with that comment, that was a brave approach from the manager tonight and a brilliant result. A massive game and he has delivered.

Heart and Hand

Nah, not having that attitude tbh - ‘oh we beat them so they can’t be very good’. And equally let’s let people enjoy a great victory. Brighton and Villa both lost tonight. European group stage wins are always good, particularly as we haven’t achieved any victory v Spanish sides for almost forty years. We all get it, we’ve not played well this season. But this constant negativity is incredibly draining. Nobody is overegging anything, they are enjoying a good win.

Wasnt the point i was making at all, very much enjoyed seeing us compete, play some excellent stuff and turn up for the first time this season. My point was that in the build up many were suggesting that Betis would steam roller us and we would never see the ball, I didn’t think they were anywhere near as good as PSV or some of the other sides we played recently and we should have every confidence of doing well in the group. Can’t praise some of the players highly enough for their efforts tonight, very much hope its the belief they need and they take confidence however even with our usual giving the ball away early in the game and them having some quality individuals they look like a tidy team but dont have the threat of a PSV or such. Never once suggested the win wasnt deserved or very welcome, my point is its a great platform but no more at this stage and will mean nothing if its a one game high, its now about taking it into Sunday and the next game and getting things rolling.

Spoon

Hopefully a big one from the confidence it should bring as the second half display was excellent, my point i clearly made clumsily was I was very worried we were coming up against a Barca lite from listening to the build up from outlets. I absolutely dont think Betis were mugs and they are clearly a technical team but at no point did I feel they were beyond us or going to run away with things. I dont watch Spanish football but those who do seemed to be saying we were in for a night of chasing shadows and hard lessons. I still dont think we were at our best but given how loose we were in the opening stages I would expect a top euro side to have punished us, it was either they had an off night or they weren’t as good as I was expecting based on the chat around them was all I meant. Not about them to be honest its about us and as you say a great result, as all in Europe are, lets hope the guys who have looked off it take the confidence they should from particularly spells in the second half. Lundstrum who I could have lived with never seeing was immense but we need it consistently from him and others now, the bar can’t drop it just needs to keep being raised. No argument about it being a night to enjoy bud.

Watching the first half was like watching porn on dial up 90’s internet … thankfully, 2nd half was very much 5G

Bob Perrie

I thought the game turned when the left back got hammered in the balls. From that moment on, for some reason, we started to improve and impose ourselves till the last kick.

Gregg

Up in balloch - had a wander about the castle - scene of my first gig. Good to get the boys back on a Thursday - hope it’s the first of many. Absolute morning glory the day

Angus Mackay

We've just beaten a very good Spanish side in meaningful European competition. Seriously, what do you expect?

Angus Mackay

If you can't see things to like performance wise in that second haldf you should stop watching football.

Angus Mackay

I was enjoying this until the interjection that the manager was still one loss away from the sack. A negative, draining, pointless comment that just kills any feeling of momentum. At that point I had to switch off, something that I've sadly found myself doing quite a lot this season.

Doug Young

You have to say that this was miles better than anything we've seen so far this season. Some effort, energy and industry. Regardless of opposition, despite still giving the ball away and relying on Butland. What else is a keeper for, if not to rely on? I told my Dad that some of that stuff we saw in the second half is the best we've been this season and I believe it. Granted, we will probably fuck it all up on Sunday, but for now I wanted to at least see some kind of progression and endeavour from a Beale team and that was last night. Against better opposition than we will face domestically all year.

Jamiedfa

We beat Ossasuna at Ibrox in the 80’s Alex!😊

Spoon

Doug, spot on. I had heard a load of stuff pre game that Betis made it sound like Betis were going to blow us away or we would struggle to compete. My point is they weren’t at all a class above last night or as good as some had made out. I am all for some Controlled optimism, it’s great to be entertained again and to be honest my issue is frustration more than anger at where we are. I have said from start of seasons the players signed look good but the issue has been how we are setting up and using them, last night it clicked and that only positive. Your right about it mattering little if we don’t use it to kick on into Sunday but let’s hope it’s a corner turned and a bit of belief back.

Craig Murray

H2???? Colin get a grip...😂

Cameron Bell

If he loses in the league, I don’t see how he wins it. If he loses the league cup game vs Livi, he should be sacked before I get in my car.

Craig Murray

As well you should with that H2 patter, I hope a few slaps were handed out off air.😆😆

Gregg

Seems to be a lot of negative what ifs - let’s just enjoy the glow of a good victory and go forward with a bit of new found hope and optimism. It’ll never catch on

David Baillie

Definitely Maybe a great start to the group. More of the same up to Xmas will do. Thursday night Oasis. Ye cannae whack it. 👍🇬🇧

Angus Mackay

I'm sorry, Cammy, but given the size of the task in the summer and the odds he's facing, I don't think he should be sacked if he loses the cup game (which I don't think he will anyway). As for losing in the league, I don't know anyone who thinks that Celtic are going to be the winning machine of last last year,. they look certain to drop more points; there are still 3 OF games (albeit two at their place) so that's 9 points. We still have a long way to go in terms of clawing back the crippling penalty that Scottish football placed on us by design; if we don't start giving managers a bit of time and room to succeed we are going to end up in an endless cycle of sacking and rebuilding while the other lot gap us financially. The only manager to win the league since we came back is Gerrard, and it's no coincidence that he is the one with whom we were the most patient. Once we are back to level pegging (or at least close to it) from a financial point of view I'm happy enough for us to revert to being that demanding, but right now we're in danger of shooting ourselves in the foot.

Declan Cairns

That’s nonsense. If he loses that cup when they aren’t in it. Regardless of who the rangers manager is, if they’re not winning the league they should be out the door.

Gregg

Would be interesting to take a look back at the history of the club if we had employed that rule. Walter gets binned in 08 (he would go on to win 3 in a row in reality).
