Rangers 1-3 Aberdeen Postmatch Reaction 30 Sept 2023

Rangers lose again and David thinks that’s surely time up for Michael Beale.

Comments

John Smith

Shame it’s come to this but at least he was brave enough to take the job on in the first place. It’s now time to bring home a certain Aussie cult hero

Ronnie

hope he’s binned before my chinese arrives!

That_Guy_Called_Ross

we play that shit in Europe on Thursday beales gone I can just feel it

Chris Devoy

Has he been sacked yet ?

Stuart Sheils

For the first time in my life I booed a rangers player off the pitch as a sub- dessers is honking- £4.5m!!! Scott Wright was an embarrassment- charging into tackles wanting to get sent off. At least that should be the end of the used car salesman.

Bradley johnson

Fittingly dressed for Beales rangers funeral

Eddie McDonald

I take no joy in telling those willing to listen at the time the he wasnt the right choice and i felt then and now it needs a totally new fresh approach. Thanks for your efforts but time to go Mick.

Rona Bluebell

I really thought he’d be gone by now at nearly 7pm. He’s been an utter disaster

David Baillie

My biggest condemnation of today’s events were that they seemed to want it more than our players. That’s totally unacceptable at Rangers.

Graeme McLeod

He has to go. There's no upside to him as a coach or manager. He's supposed to be a youth development expert; hung Lowry out to dry, and bringing Lovelace on at that stage wasn't going to help him. Supposed to be a master tactician, yet he can't think of playing any other way than how we set out in 2018.

Stewart MacKenzie

Don’t think I have wanted a manager to work out as much as Beale but it’s been over for him since beggars defeat. Since then it’s been toxic

John Johnston

Love the Phil Mitchell look David which is quite apt for people called Beale.

Teddy Lasso

He has to go, he should go but I will be gobsmacked if it happens.

Stewart Robertson

I wish I could get angry - but I can’t. Just so sad at the state of my beloved club.

Stewart Robertson

David Edgar’s rocking a David Martindale look there. Subliminal message to the board ?

Ally Mair

Seen there was pitch invasions at the Motherwell v tims game if that was rangers fans there would be a fucking parliamentary inquiry , doesn’t take away from the shitshow we are at the moment

Graham Robertson

Summed up perfectly , go every week including the 80’s but ffs Beale has to go NOW!!! Well done David 👏👏

Doogz

I was hoping the board had sacked him before I got home from the game, he has to go now and no dithering from the board, put him out of his misery

Calum Downham

Board have a shocking track record with managers since they took over in 2017. I have no hope in them going forward in appointing the right man for the job When the new manager is eventually appointed he needs to be brave and start doing things differently, start with removing Tav as captain

Andrew

I have tried really tried to stay positive and back him. But there is absolutely no way a manager of Rangers who loses 3 of his first 7 can stay at the helm. He has to go tonight.

John

What encapsulated it for me was their 03rd and Tav shitting out of it instead of throwing himself in. Nothing will change until these episodes change

Neil Buchanan

I’d resigned myself to the board staying silent and giving a short statement with no name to it backing him on Monday but lessening to you there, I can only agree and hope the board relieve him of his position within 24hrs. They did let the dust settle with Geo but I’m not sure they have that luxury now.

Paul Kerr

I think everyone knows it's done, even the board. I take no pleasure in it, i wanted him to come in and thought he deserved a second chance after Killie but there's just nothing to hang your hat on. Should have been fired last international break. Hopefully the decision has now been made and the board are just positioning themselves for an announcement. If they aren't lining up a caretaker tonight then they should get to fuck as well in all honesty.

agnostic rhythm

Agreed. Beale has to go. We can’t allow this to turn into another Gio season and have the scum handed another free title.

Gordon Millar

It's over, time to get the best experienced manager that will take on the challenge and have a Rangers presence in the dressing room. Big clubs have this continuity element to keep managers and players honest in terms of the expectations and demands to manage/play for this club..... traditions should be respected and coveted....no more rookie managers, this institution deserves better

Spoon

Spot on comment David, nobody takes any pleasure out of the situation as ultimately it means we aren’t doing well but this is a situation lots feared was on the cards for a while. It might sound daft but for me there are certain key decisions that give you a feeling of unease, perhaps minor things but they niggle. For me it was his dismissive attitude to Colak, a guy who was a proven goal scorer but he was happy to cast him aside while bumming up Kent and Morelos as guys he would turn around and get the best out of. Wee bits of insight into his thought process and judgement that ring alarm bells, then week on week making strange decisions until eventually we get to where we are. No idea what the answer is but time this board came out the shadows and steadied the ship, acknowledge the issue and reassure us all they have a plan to sort this mess.

Alastair McGeoch

100% Beale should be gone tonight. We need an experienced manager who can bring the elite level mindset to the club and this group of players. But they cost money! One things for sure, the new manager whoever that turns out to be needs to clear out Tav, Goldson, Barisic, Jack, Lundstrum and get this “loser / just happy to wear a rangers shirt” mentality driven out of the playing squad. Hard to see how we go forward from here at the moment as so much is broken at the club at the moment

Graeme Smith

It’s hard to disagree with anything you’ve said there David. Even the most ardent a supporter of Beale will now tell you it’s over. We’ve bought poorly and we have no shape, no philosophy, a team that are only going through the motions and a support who are totally against the manager staying past tonight. It would now be a dereliction of duty on the board not to take action while they can

Graeme Burns

100% agree. Good on you for telling him how it is. Did you anticipate this today or do you normally dress like an undertaker?

Craig Hart

That's it in a nutshell David

keith wright

They’ll probably wait until the international break now and by that time we’ve lost another two games

James Mathieson

Absolute shambles. He doesn’t deserve us as a support.

Andrew Hind

Would it really be a surprise if our board did nothing and let this car crash continue

James McKenzie

It's over. I'm not sure when it will become official, but it's done. He's a very decent man, passionate about football, but it's gone badly wrong. I wish him well in his next role. I don't know if the club will want to go interim and get a DOF in place before an official manager. There's a history of getting this wrong, so hopefully the next appointment bucks the trend.

Andrew Meldrum

I genuinely thought it would be official by the time I got back home, but it seems not. He's a nice guy, by all accounts a good coach but he isn't a manager. He had a jibe last season at Postecoglu, calling him lucky. My thoughts then was it's better to be lucky than good. Beale is now bemoaning his bad luck with injuries, but I spent my 20s and 30s watching patched up Rangers teams win games. It's what winners do. They make their own luck. Beale, ultimately is unlucky because he isn't up to the job.

Andrew Meldrum

If the board don't have a short list, it's a deriliction of duty. The old firm match should have put them on notice that a new manager could soon be required. If they didn't have some names in mind, they should do now.

Kev Roberts

Nail on the head as usual David!!

Bornabear72

Should have been sacked after the old firm , knew this was coming since then so why wait until the league is even further out of our reach

Jamie

Full on Ultravox vibes with the black Turtle neck David #trendsetter

Jamie

Neil Warnock as ASAP stopgap - ditched by Huddersfield last week

John Smith

He may have been naive to take the job but it does take courage to accept a role of this magnitude

Alan Baxter

It’s irrelevant who we get as the league is done and we arent good enough to win any of the cups so maybe give Kevin Thomson a chance to prove himself. At least we would know he gives a f@ck.

Gary Shaw

I think Jason Donovan is doing panto in a few weeks so don’t think he’ll take it 😉

John Breen

The outfit was fitting David. The day Beales Rangers career died

Gary Shaw

Well put David…..I love a wee moan but this side have literally sucked every last shred out of me that I don’t even get angry with them anymore

David Innes

I haven’t felt this negative since the Pedro / Murty days. Under Gerrard I always had hope. Towards the end of Gio’s reign I still felt we had a decent squad and that a new manager would be able to turn it round. After Beale gets sacked where do we we go next ? I can’t even think of anyone who would be a ‘safe pair of hands’. Of the realistic names being mentioned I’m actually thinking McInnes might be the least worse option - the football would be awful but at least the players would know what they’re supposed to be doing. Anyone really good is out of our price range and we can’t afford another gamble on a rookie

Chris Mackrell

Well put David, but the question must be asked who can bind together this disjointed bunch?

Martin Davies

I hate seeing Rangers managers being sacked. It means we've failed. But we can't continue with Beale in charge next week or we'll lose in Cyprus and fall even further behind in the league vs St Mirren. Hopefully the board act whilst there is still something to play for. Beale sounds like a man who knows his time is up and is just waiting for the big cheque.

Ian Irvine

I've never boo'ed a Rangers Manager in my life. Beale changed that today He's got to go Sooner rather than later

Robert Bradley

Apparently keeper on 40k a week....woof.....We need to concentrate on Scottish football. Seville was great but we need to earn our bread and butter. Ridiculous amount of doh which should have been spent on an a few players from our on back yard...just saying lads, great show. .keep it up🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍

David Innes

Kevin Nisbet, Laurence Shankland and Lyndon Dykes - all players who know the league and could have been sensible signings for a fraction of what we paid for Dessers/Lammers etc

Adam Williamson

No thanks due to him at all. He’s set us back years with his complete incompetence and absolutely rotten recruitment. He’s taken a squad of average losers and spent 13 million pounds making it significantly worse. We’re a laughing stock, a complete and utter joke from top to bottom. Get him out of our club.

Graham soderlund

GTF beale and the players are fcuking cowards

Robert Bradley

Lewis Ferguson and the boy Doig fae Hibs...... plus Hickey....all cracking players which our scouting system don't see or want to see. Wee should have the ce

Robert Bradley

Yep Shankland not going to take us to next level but....we need to win our own bread and butter before moving onto other areas because the lad Desires is taking us absolutely nowhere. Baffling how we paid funny money on this lad. Just can't understand how we went from a dynamic forward looking team to this totally disjointed malfunctioning group of players....baffling

Alloabear

Of course they are.... It would mean having to do something outwith their skill set. And know they'll be het for the rage if it goes wrong this time

Scott Christian

It’s quite astonishing the level of trust and accountability placed on one person. Why do we still not have a director of football, a support network, a sustainable plan so that when Beale does go we aren’t tearing it up and restarting. Again! It’s a dereliction of duty by the board here, talk about not learning from the mistake of Gerrard bogging off with the entire coaching staff. When I read about Aberdeen having the best ratio of shots to xG chances I absolutely knew they’d win today. Our squad is worse than 12 months ago and the best part of £15m has been spent making it so. A shambles.

KAD87

With Beale there were warning signs very early, which we all wanted to not see. His decision not to play raskin and Cantwell in the semi was one of the first. The way he discussed transfer targets in the media was one. His inability to win important games last season was one. Hasn’t been right and it will never be right. Time to go big man.

Gary Shaw

This is my main concern…usually in some perverse way I get excited when we are looking for a new manager but I don’t think Pep could get a tune out of the majority of these players and there isn’t really a blank canvas to work with either

GlasgowBear

At 1-0 Graeme Shinnie was celebrating winning a corner like they’d just clinched the league title. Embarrassing letting these movies come and do that to us at ibrox. Manager needs to go immediately, and I’d send half the players with him if we could (but we can’t…)

C. J

Yeah mate, the fact that we're now going to be stuck with Beale's picks, many of them in senior ages, is a real mess.

Andy MacArthur

The level of apathy around the support now speaks volumes. Haven’t felt this negative about the club in years. To think of the dominant position we were in after 55 to now is inexcusable. We need an experienced manager and a new core of leaders in the dressing room. Tav and Goldson don’t cut it. This Celtic team will drop points, this season could be salvageable if the board act fast. The team looks broken and listening to Beale post match he is a defeated man. He CANNOT still be in charge Thursday night.

maccalsa

I imagine the board doesn't want to make a change until they have a plan, regardless of how paper thin that plan is. They'll be aware that Project beale has failed, and fans won't want another project. In fact, you see what fans want it on here. it's like a lonely heart's ad: "Fans seeks experienced manager with a track record of winning, someone who can give us identity and has tactical nous" The problem is that that describes most of the managers who gravitate to the bigger leagues and clubs in Europe. They will not be coming here. The realistic options are: 1. A manager with a decent history but a recent decline. 2. An unknown manager who has been successful in a small or unfashionable league. 3. An ex rangers player. 4. A manager with success within Scotland. 5. A project, like Beale. 6. A project like Stevie G Of course, some candidates will fall into multiple categories, but we have to accept the days of ready-made big name, successful managers coming to us are long gone. We are where people come to start/restart their careers, not continue them. The board will be looking at who is available and what spin they can put on the appointment to appease fans.

Very Good Joinery

We have a “captain “ who has now seen off 5 (five) managers

Rick Goldsbrough

Time for those cockney cowboys on that Rangers bench yesterday to leave. The board need to make the obvious decision or risk putting us back even further. I’ve heard the word ‘Cowards’ used about individuals at the club. It’s time for all to stand up and do the right thing!

Brian trump

Fair play. Agree 💯. Tav is an absolute fraud

Brian trump

The board have done their bit also. It’s time for them all to sell up. Small time

Luke

I can’t help but think back to Goldson’s comments after that Hibs game a few year ago. Saying they knew the game was done at half time against fucking Hibs. He’s seen as a leader in that team. We are serial losers and it’s a problem that has been created by senior management and transpired on to the pitch. What an absolute fucking shambles we have become. No manager in the world could get a tune out of that team.

Gordon Smith

Who would have thought signing a bunch of strikers with a poor scoring record could be a problem? How did we get here ?

Brian trump

He’s another fraud. Him and Tav are legacy issues that need to leave with Beale

Luke

I’ve never known Rangers leaders to be so out of tune with the mentality we have here. Even Lee Wallace understood the demand better than they have, and look at the treatment he got from the club. It’s easy to say you understand something, literally anyone can say they get it.. but they clearly fucking don’t. They aren’t leaders.

james foster

David whats your thoughts on this Bisgrove / Kitman story that's being pushed by an FF admin? Anything in it, or troublemakers by the admin as his mates not in the loop anymore and his info has dried up?

Adam Copeland

The team and manager took one look at the Celtic result before kick off and it totally deflated them. The mentality about this club has been off for over decade. Personnel come and go but the mentality remains the same. May we as fans have a part to play in changing that but it has to start from the club.

Very Good Joinery

The club needs to stop embarrassing us with gina turner b4 the games. We clearly are not, nor have been StB for decades

Alan Keegan

That’s the most disappointing aspect. I thought we were getting a young manager on the up - great work with Gerrard, good at QPR , bigged up signings. And then rubbish.

Brian trump

We’re an embarrassment. I’m not putting Rangers tops on my kids cause they’ll be laughed at

KAD87

I’ve noticed Tav hasn’t been doing pressers. Feels inevitable that he will be punted as captain in time. Butland for next captain?

David Baillie

Totally agree Paul. I’m hoping the board have been actively looking at a replacement since the Sellic game. If they haven’t it is a grave dereliction of duty. We could all see the car crash gathering momentum.

David Baillie

Spot on John. He shat it, big time. For a Rangers captain that’s an unforgivable indictment. The same charge should be applied to Goldson for his failing to win that challenge on our right touchline. For me it was 60/40 in his favour. The Aberdeen player wanted it more than and that again is unforgivable.

Darren Swift

Neil Warnock will sort this lot out!

Stuart K

Shambles of a situation. Alarm bells were ringing as far back as pre season as well. Signed duds, doesn't know his best team and looks lost. He's not a manager in a million years.

Rona Bluebell

If we got a good manager who showed us something positive, I’d put more money in through shares etc but only willing to do that if we see improvement. I’m not chucking more money in to see it squandered. We need something to rally around to recover. Bold leadership is urgently required

Stace1ofthePeople

We can hope. I love tav but he accepts second best and competing more than winning too often . We need ripped up top to bottom. I see him doing a lot of moaning but no real grabbing people by the scruff of the neck and really influencing the players. Sure he pops up with goals and I can imagine he is a great professional so maybe "leads by example" however call me old fashioned but rangers in a league like the spfl needs a hard/tough player who is very vocal. Allan Mcgregor type. We lack a toughness and far too often get bullied by other teams who out fight us. Its embarrassing

Ross T

Cant disagree David. Injuries no excuse for Beale. Starting the game we had: Dessers - no1 target at 4mil odd. Sima - 8mil brighton player on loan Lammers - 3.5mil Full strength backline and goalkeeper. Lundstrum, jack and Cifuentes (the game changer lol) Has to go.

Stephen Gale

I remember that, and still despise him for it. I never forgave him. Then he got injured last season an we were destroyed without him. It's a fuckin shambles that oor senior players are losers at heart.

Callum Dinnen

Gio wasn't given injuries as an excuse by the support (and in fact got blamed for the injuries by a lot of the support), so I don't understand why they're offered as an excuse for Beale. Yes, we're down to bare bones on the bench but we had a first choice keeper and back 4, Lundstram and Cifuentes in midfield and 3 new signings up front including 2 players Beale spent £8m on. I'd much rather be in Beale's position than the position Gio was in with basically no fit centre halves last season.

Spoon

Need to bin this ‘won’t take us to the next level’ and contrite on THIS level. We have become football snobs and it’s based on absolutely nothing, the amount of players our own support immediately writes off as limited is a joke. Be nice to being someone in and develop them again. We need to unlock potential not bring in a player and break them .

Gary Shaw

Totally agree….Cifu was the guy that was going to take us to the “next level” and around January time when asked who the striker he had in mind was he said he wasn’t giving anything away incase “it alerts other clubs”….surely if that was Dessers he was referring to then he deserves the sack for that alone

Brian trump

Alan pardew is another great shout. Proper British manager and doesn’t take any shit

CJT

The decision to allow a rookie manager to undertake the biggest squad restructure in years looks like a gross dereliction of duty from the board. That's twice in recent history we've allowed a snake-oil salesman to squander funds that badly needed to be invested wisely. Beale's not proved up to it. That's on those who selected him. We need football men at the top end of this organisation. Why the feck do we not have a director of football to help out here. The only answer can be we don't or didn't need one because we thought Beale could do it. Deary me. Top to bottom this club needs to organise to win. They've got used to us pouring in cash and support without the trophies. We can't accept that anymore. We need to shift this onto the people who've overseen it, again. We're a football club, an institution and a integral part of Scottish cultural life. We've got there by winning. I get we need to be fiscally responsible but the generation of income for a club like us has to be to deliver trophies. That needs people who won't accept anything less. Show me anyone at this club that thinks that way. Serial losers top to bottom. If you can't change that get out the way for someone who can.

James Cameron

After a long sleep today. I have come to this conclusion. Sack Beale said weeks ago he should have gone. Short term bring an experienced old fashioned British manager with a big personality till the end of the season. That won't put up with the awful attitude of players and will drop players not performing. This may prove unpopular with some one here but give me a Big Sam or Warnock till the end of the season. The league is gone with the players we have and have recruited in the summer they are simply not good enough The jersey is far too big for a vast majority of the squad Long Term a DOF brought in ASAP with a proven track record in recruiting players from lower leagues. They will also be in charge of recruitment of manager and staff and give the club a clear identity throughout the club. A message for the invisible CEO and Chairman any money kept aside for stadium expansion apart from the upgrade to disabled facilities will have to be put aside for recruitment of manager and players. The most important thing about a football club is a winning team on the pitch a team the fans can have trust in. The money spent on vanity projects NEH and Museum looks a folly when you look at what we have to endure week after week for 2 seasons Both seasons finished before the Christmas sales. This money should have been invested in a winning team on the pitch. A warning to the current custodians of the club if this continues next season I for one will be voting with my feet and not coming back speaking to many supporters who also think like that. Supporters who work hard every to attend. Remember we are not just customers WE ARE THE SUPPORT THE LIVE BLOOD OF THIS CLUB. The time for hiding in the boardroom has long gone and you now have to deliver. If you can't deliver this BE HONEST with the support and open dialogue with us.

Paul Kerr

Absolutely agree guys. It might take time and money to get who we require long term, but we should at least have contingency plans.

David McCulloch

Muscat with craig Moore in the background, get steven davis and Kevin thomson in aswell

Ross

Rumours seem to be picking up pace that he’s going, hopefully true. Source: Twitter and WhatsApp so get your money on it.

Gary Shaw

Surely the Stephen Robinson rumours are a load of 💩
