The impact of a win in Europe echos for up to ten years in the form of preferential draws via seedings, enhanced prize money allocation now and in future through the 10 year coefficient payment and general prestige. Winning these games is HUGELY important

Graeme Burns

€0.63M for the win, €0.21 for the draw.

John Smith

My favourite show on H&H

John Smith

All the qualities you’re talking about that we need in a leader can be found in a certain individual currently residing in Japan at the moment. Positive attack minded football, no prisoners taken, loves Rangers and has won league titles

John Smith

I suspect KM would put together a coaching staff including guys like Davo, Rae, McCann etc. Guys who understand the club and that he’s been teammates with before

Graeme Dempster

Is it just coincidence that players drop like flies when the manager's under pressure?? Is it genuine injuries or is a sign that the players have just downed tools

James

“Ask people in football” But not the ones who are offering their opinion already?

Shaun

100 % strider nailed it in regards Beale and the director of football and the board , Board are a shambles and hung Beale out to dry giving him multiple jobs when he was hired to do one!! Know for a fact Beale was promised Director of Football would have been in place by the summer and board shafted him!

Jim McCutcheon

Thanks again guys, really enjoy this pod 👍

David A

Great show lads and brilliant to see Alex back with superb input as usual

Mark Henderson

Looking forward to walking the dog and listening to this later, great to hear Alex back

WILLIAM JACK

Likewise the show is always a must listen but better with big Staff on.

Graham McCallum

Steven you’re just contradicting yourself re, ask football people about a new manager and then saying don’t listen to football people eg Moore Numan De Boer etc

Bryan Watson

Agree with the points regarding Beale's backroom staff. That Banfield interview before the Livi game was really alarming and in my opinion a proper insight into how far off it in terms of standards they were. He was afronted when Joshua Barrie asked him when the big performance was going to come. From his tone and response it heavily suggested that they thought flashes here in there and a good result against Betis constituted a big performance. They didn't get it.

Andrew Whiteside

Welcome back Alex. Steven I flinch every week with the chat about the opposition not being a good team or not being a good player or the manager not being a great tactician. They whooped us as have two other teams in the league. They were good enough to beat us so maybe ease off on that mate.

Hendi

That's the complete opposite re DoF that I was told. And this was when I was told about Butland and Dowell being signed (had never been mentioned anywhere at that point). As well as some information about players' european bonuses being based on qualification I think now, rather than individual wins.

Great pod as always gents and the most encompassing discussion on the platform. Will sound strange but I can buy into both Strider and Stevie’s views, I am all for the progressive, develop the players, focus on youth (theres a groundbreaking idea!) and look to maximise our assets. I totally agree with Alex that we have players who used properly could do a turn and kick on given time and the right manager / coach to hone their talents. I also think modern football gets over complicated and Stevie is right to highlight there is a fairly simple blueprint for domestic success but for some reason we have abandoned the basics of football that works in Scotland. I tend to side with the character manager, the controlled aggression and dig needed to win here against teams who are dug in to the point they could be in trenches most games across the 18 yard line. Beale to me lost it as he was a salesman with no product, he spoke nonsense and you can’t do that for any length of time without being caught out. I would be very interested to know what some of the players who agitated to get him in thought when the penny dropped he wasnt up to it. All the podders make excellent points, I am totally uninspired by the names I have heard bar maybe the boy Jansen who has a bit about him but theres no point pretending he wouldn’t be a gamble. I am not as opposed to McInnes as some but the challenges around his back room staff are definitely there, with the right wider coaching team I could see him being a guy who could get results for us to be fair. Great to hear Warnock uniting the opposing camps of traditional Stevie and progressive Alex, a really touching moment. Stevie, great to see some aggression at last, where has that been the rest of the season…..you need to willingly to die to get a preview in for this pod mate! Enjoyed this one gents and great to see you go back to basics with this one and have all the originals back on after experimental line ups, old guys who are past it being brought in or some of hot prospects being given a chance. Maybe thats an omen for the manger search.

Russ

It's probably why fans won't have Ferguson/Stewart/Doig etc as players (dare I say the board neither).

Andrew Whiteside

Interesting comment on the signings. We talk about the amount of money spent in summer which is nothing in football terms but a lot for us. What I could not get my head around is why we spent it in Italy and The Netherlands where you don’t get much for that money. We spend that money in other leagues outside the top 5 we get better players.

Jeffff96

Do you’s honestly hear yourselves Tav has lost a yard of pace move him to RM 😂 then saying he should have had two assists then saying maybe sell him? Which is it? Find a new scapegoat rather than talking about a full back who has over a hundred goals and countless assists 😂

Mark

I disagree with Strider on SG. It was apparent that when Gerrard came into Auchenhowie, from just watching the pressers, he projected very similar vibes to Souness in making it clear that he was the big dog and that standards were going to be dragged-up. It is easier to do that (perhaps) in the smaller pond that is Scotland - but when Souness went back down to England that never worked for him, just like it never worked for Gerrard at Villa. Because the likes of Klopp and Pep were down there and these guys are managers who football fans will be reading biographies of in fifty years time. We need a strong, unifying figure once again.

Jim Milne

Good to hear Strider back!

John Hood

Best pod on H&H 👍

Mark

He's bang-on regarding the Chris Jack article also. That was serpentine behaviour. Good luck to the next manager if that's how the board go about backing him too!

Steve23

Enjoyed that, great pod boys. Welcome back Alex, great to hear from you again big man.

Steve23

And despite those stats, offered close to zero in the big moments, the moments that matter, the ones that win silverware. He has been a good player for us, no arguments there, he’s now 32, he is absolutely in decline, to be expected and we should not be relying on the likes of Tav and Goldson. We have failed to transition the squad. You can argue both Tav and Goldson are the best players we have in their positions, given their ages and rate of decline, that’s the problem, that’s why we are 2nd best. But here is the main point. The core of this team, the senior players cannot win when it matters, they are capable on their day. They just can’t do it when it matters. fact. He needs completion for his place, he needs to be dropped and rested.

Jeffff96

Zero big moments 😂😂 he was top scorer in the europa league and in the team of the tournament, “ages” “ rate of decline” the guys 31 it’s not the 1980s where he’s smoked and drank for the past 20 years the guys a top athlete lol

Brian Johnstone

I like the Martindale for assistant shout Kev. Have been saying it as well. He knows the league, he can setup a team, he obviously has the respect of some of our players judging by his comments on the foul for the first goal against them. If he left they would be relegated and we wouldn’t have to play on that pitch again. A win all round maybe…

John Davidson

Neil Warnock? Ffs Kev, get aff the glue. 🤣

Graeme Duncan

Good to hear you again Alex 👍

Hendi

Decent argument from Alex about Beale being hung out to dry. Not sure on how much I agree, would need to give it more thought. But good to hear a different perspective on it.

Angus Mackay

Great pod, guys, thanks. Fantastic to have the big man back in the chair - welcome back, Alex, your calm rational approach has been badly missed. I very much agreed with every word of the bit about the club and the loss of direction after everything seemed to be on the right track. Bennett and Bisgrove really need to step up,

Jamiedfa

Great pod lads, Steven is spot on with everything he says.

Chris Graham 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

What a fantastic pod Fully agree with Steven . Was discussing this all week A new manager should have his own assistant 100% and possibly 2 others After that our club should have a core staff that knows the club ethos , the league and the identity of what we are aiming for safeguarding in the event we have a full clearance when a manager leaves or is sacked

Cameron Fraser

Cant believe you're floating the idea of McInnes, Steven -shows how bad things have become given your comments on him previously. A footballing dinosaur who had his chance when the squad was at his level - should never be given the opportunity again.

Cary Grayson

Never miss the previews lads, this was a brilliant listen. Cheers for all the work you out in 👍🏼

Jordan McKay

I think this squad has shown enough to make me think that a manager who’s willing to put a rocket up their backsides will get a good tune out of them. Beale was too nice and too wishy washy in public and I suspect this was also the case privately. The squad probably couldn’t take him seriously.

Jordan McKay

With Tav it’s a case of adapt or die. He was at his best when he had plenty of space in front of him to move into and had the recovery pace to go back the other way. Now he’s lost that pace. Obviously moving him up a line drastically reduces the amount of space he has to move into. But it also reduces the expectation on him to go back. I think it’s the only realistic way we can keep him in the side at this point.

Gregg McKee

After two trophies in 11 years results are the only things that matter I’m afraid. We simply cannot continue this mediocrity on. The support is very much at breaking point. It’s been too long now. We need results and trophies now or the fans start to drift away. They already are this season looking at bums on seats in the ground. Steven is spot on “we are a mess”.

Gregg McKee

Alex you are spot on re the Chris Jack article. It was horrendous from the board to stick it all on Beale at that point.

Chris C

Very good pod. Some great points and debates. Interesting take on lack of support for Beale, Alex. Hadn’t thought of it like that but makes sense now. Bisgrove should NOT be heading the manager hunt. What a mess. Hopefully we see some positive reactions tonight.
