Adam & Ally are joined by Scott Coyne - a Belgian football consultant and cohost of The Belgian Football podcast - to talk about another managerial candidate, exClub Brugge and Monaco manager, Philippe Clement.

Scott goes into great depth about Clement's time in Belgium winning titles and cups with Genk and Brugge as both a manager and a player. We discuss his abilities as a man manager and leader before finishing off with a look at his tactical approach during his time in Belgium and France.

If you'd like to hear more from Scott then you can find The Belgian Football podcast on Twitter - https://twitter.com/BelgianPodcast

Lovely, been waiting on this since Muscats insightful pod yesterday.

Gary Newlove

Looking forward to this 👍

John Smith

But I’ll take him if Kev says no

CRAIG CASSELLS

Looking forward to this. Listened to Muscat one this morning and have to admit I was quite excited with what Sacha had to say about Muscat's high press, fast attacking football. Here's hoping Clement pod is just as enlightening.

Bill’s truth

Sounds like he might be the guy we are looking for.

james whyte

Like the sound of this guy. Good listen guys 👍

mark wyper

Very good listen , if all the guys that are supposedly in the running for the rangers job it's some job the board have on their hands , hopefully they're consulting a proper football man and not taking this decision on their own.

Andrew Whiteside

Many positives in going for Clement. More excited about Muscat. The football sounds more exciting from Muscat. Would worry if he thought he could get a tune out of the current squad when the last 3 managers have struggled. 55 being the exception.

Ross

Slight concern that Clement likes his teams to try and draw opponents out because that doesn't work against 50% of the teams in our league.

Scott

Him or Muscat 👍

Mitch Counsell

Excellent insight. Has many professional and personal attributes that fit our current situation.

Jim McCutcheon

Thanks guys very interesting pod Clement sounds like he could be a good fit along with a DOF 🤔

Lee Stewart

I think the lad on the Muscat pod done a better job at selling him with stats on goals attacks etc. By going on what both have said Clement may be able to get more out of our current squad. But I’m swaying towards Muscat too!

Sandy

These pods have been excellent! I’d be quite happy with either Clement or Muscat

Gordon Mac

So that's you pushing Clement now, interesting 🤣 Great suff thanks for the shows

Ryan Stewart

I was sold as soon as Scott says he plays 442 🤣 he seems a strong candidate. It’s him or Muscat for me

David A

Great show,Clement sounds a perfect fit for us

Alan Bradley

Really insightful, both this one and the Muscat pod have been really helpful.

Adam

Excellent show lads! Great insight from Scott there. Interesting he brought up Clement having a close working relationship with Preud'homme, did he not come out quite publicly once and declare an interest in managing us? Might have been around the Pedro era, cant remember if it was before or after. Clement is my preferred candidate. As exciting is as Muscat sounds, I think the youth development dimension to Clement makes him a clear stand out. We've under performed massively when it comes to bridging the gap between first team and B team, him working closely with Zeb Jacobs could see us finally turn a corner there. Also good that he could be potentially open to the idea of working alongside Scottish coaches too.

Colin Carstairs

These pods are a fantastic listen & to here different aspects of each coach so far gives us as fans something which we maybe don’t understand & maybe a little take for granted I.e he’s won league titles there…therefore he win them here Thanks guys 👍

CJT

Thanks gents. From being pretty downbeat about all this I'm starting to feel quite positive after these 2 pods. I'd settle for Muscat but this guy's profile is just about on the button. Interesting about the Sporting Dirdctor thing. Hope short sightedness on our part on this won't put off potential candidates.

Luca Brasi

These pods are excellent and insightful Adam thank you

Michael

Excellent discussion thank you for a great program

George Harrison

A brilliant interview, thoroughly enjoyed that !

Ross

Great listen 👍 I’ve got to say I’m a bit twitchy that he was described as ‘quiet’ at the beginning and end of the podcast and a question mark raised re his ability to handle goldfish bowl. I don’t think the new manager needs to be a shouter & baller but I do think we need someone with very strong authority and presence (that I think gio and Beale lacked, and great managers like Souness, Smith, McLeish, Gerrard had). Hoping Clement has this but I’d be interested to hear more about his personality/character as that’s something you struggle to get a sense of from the candidates you’re limited to Wikipedia to find out about ! Season at Genk…impressive. Three seasons at Brugges…spent 95m over 3 years (brought in 120m but still a different landscape to Rangers) Third season spent 50m+ and it sounds like they were struggling before he left and new man got them back on track for title…is that a worry ? Monaco….whatever way you spin it his first full season he failed and was sacked. Still, maybe a failed experience in a top 5 league is better than Muscat having no experience in a top 5 league and only one experience in mid level league being Belgium where he failed.

Mark

Preud'homme has been linked with us more than once I think

Kev Roberts

I prefer this guy over muscat to be honest. 2 interesting shows on the manager options Thanks guys

lewis reeves

Cheers for the gents, that was quality. I was keen on Muscat after the interview but after greeting that I’m all in on clement, so many good points and pros. Knows some of the players from his time in Belgium, winner as a player and a manager. 4-4-2 with inverted wingers, drawing teams out and onto us then playing through the press with the gaps in behind for rabbi and sima to exploit, need to hope that he can pair up Danilo with dessers / roofe. Sounds like an exciting appointment to me

Stuart Campbell

There's lots of positives for Clement however I think we really need a leader styler profile as manager. I'd also prefer a natural English speaker as manager as outwith Advocaat (and a huge spend) the foreign coach profile hasn't worked for us. The big plus for Clement is the large section of Belgian league players in squad and hopefully be can get a tune out of them which will be key

Ronnie Brown

I have been swayed by propaganda and I'm now all-in for Clement. Until the next pod, focusing on Glasner after which I will be all-in for him.

Spoon

Very much enjoyed the pod and guest was excellent in terms of insight. Liked what I hear with Clement and would prefer him to Muscat based on both pods, had been favouring Jansen but this was a very solid pitch for a guy who’s clearly got a bit about him. Love the idea of moving to a 4-4-2 to annoy the trendy modern football aficionados and like the talk of him being a quiet disciplinarian. Starting to get a bit more excited about these candidates now we’re getting proper analysis of them, great pod again Adam.

Billy Forrester

I’m on the Clement train now after hearing that, sounds very positive and encouraging however as always he will be judged on results and trophies.

MARK DRIVER

Between Clement and Muskat I think, I’m leaning towards Clement tbh

Scott

Who else is back listening to this again after Clement got appointed? 😆

Kev Roberts

Bet I am not the only one giving this a 2nd listen

John Smith

You know it’s real when you follow him on Instagram
