Tavernier reminds me of the guy who jogs 99% of a 10k and sprints the last 100 metres.

They aren’t very good but their big game players always step up in these games,Who was the last player we had that genuinely worried their fans??Like the boy kyogo,When we play them it’s him I know will do the business,We have absolutely no one,

Greg

I wish you time stamped when the digs at dessers stopped.

Brian Rae

Having watched the game back as some sort of weird therapy, What I found striking is their use of the dark arts/cheating. They constantly steal yards at every throw-in, and their wall always moves a yard or two in front of the spray line and of course, the ref turns a blind eye. The handball incident is rightly being highlighted by the media but what I don't want to happen is the fact that they finished the game with 11 on the park when it should've been 8 or 9. The Dessers through on goal chance was poor but looking at it, there are similarities between the way the defender pulls and pushes him to that of the Balogun sending off. IMO, It's clear that in order to progress, we need yet another new front 3 that far exceeds the ability of what we currently have. I criticised the performance of Sima post-match and on 2nd viewing, his performance was even worse. McCausland is talented but nowhere near ready to play week in and week out for us and TBH, his physical conditioning(weak) at 20, in this day and age is extremely poor and highlights yet another failure of our youth academy/Sports science dept. Dessers probably wouldn't be near the team if Roofe/Danilo were fit but it's clear that he has no long-term future as a main striker. I would like us to go for an athletic CM, LW & RW and another striker in addition to Silva in this window and all must be starters. The defence also needs to be gutted but I would expect this to take place in the summer.

There was a comment made that VAR was brought in to help the refs, yet, the issues are still happening. The issue here isn’t VAR, the issue is the referees. That game went beyond incompetence, that game was blatant corruption for all to see and it’s nigh time that our club does something about it. The stiff upper lip, talking in the background nonsense is what has gotten us in this position. If Bisgrove and Bennett don’t have the stomach to meet this head on, then they should be making way for people who do. This has gone on for far too long, their club actively tried to kill us as they didn’t want competition. This goes beyond sporting rivalry. It’s time that our club, our players and our supporters start hating them the way they do us.

The biggest case of self sabotage of a Rangers career I’ve ever seen in Saturday. He’s finished longer term in a Blue shirt. Pound for pound one of our worst ever strikers for that outlay.

Spoon

Excellent pod gents, agree wholeheartedly with majority of comment from all. On Cantwell I suspect Clement sees in him the type of guy he hated playing with and the attitude you guys discussed about him vs team is the reason I personally dont relate to Cantwell. Like some other ‘stars’ we have had recently he seems to forget what the aim of the game is and have the focus to just do what the team needs to get te result. Lots of people dont want to talk about the online side of him but its its obviously an indicator of the type of personality he has, if he could quietly go about his business on the park then it wouldn’t be in focus but a lot of the petulance seems to be there on both. I have been a supporter of Dessers simply as he is an underdog and I loved the idea he would come good. He just wont and we need a proper goal scorer in, its been debated elsewhere and while I have heard all the arguments about value and limitations I would absolutely go and pay decent money for Shankland as I firmly believe if we have a guy like him in there yesterday we win that game. Kev spot regarding Tav, every pass, corner and free kick bar the goal was a horror show. Im not anti Tav but he had a bad bad day outwith the goal. I would have kept Dowell in as I think the partnership and balance with him and Stirling was excellent, I think it also got more out of Cantwell. The disappointment for me from last game comes from it being the chance to flip the narrative and convince them something is different this year. It would only have been another 3 points but beating them at their home in the current climate they have could have taken a huge swipe at their conviction they have enough to get over the line. I firmly believe Clement is the guy, if he gets time and the board can find a way to shuffle our squad getting rid of the deadwood and bring in a few bits of quality then we can still have an excellent season. I believe in the manager, the question is can he get enough from this squad, can he get the required number of changes in personnel to rejuvenate things and if he can it will be a good season. The acid test now is can we bounce straight back, if we can then the last games a blip. IF we can go out and take a few goals from them then it’s back to laser focus and building with only a hiccup. Lets hope its the latter ! Enjoyed it gents.

On the online element - and I’m a rangers da who doesn’t do any social media (apart from this). It’s here to stay and we better get used to it. I idolised guys growing up who were out on the piss regularly - give me someone messing about on tik tok over that. The players are entitled to a life and if that’s what they want to do, so be it. I don’t get the concentrating on the football thing - it’s a phrase that’s gets thrown about. And I think Cantwell has been poor btw - I’m not suggesting otherwise - but let’s stick to critiquing the football Happy New Year pal

Spoon

Sorry dont agree, especially as the content is often football related. Any fan can comment on anything they like its not for others to dictate the boundaries, you can agree or disagree but I am sure that inappropriate or detrimental social media would be censured by a club the same as being out on the piss or conducting themselves in a disorderly manner. The point I was making isnt about social media it’s about character and mentality. You can billy big baws it on social media as much as you like if you are collecting medals and bossing it on the park. Anyone who is ignoring how Cantwell arrived here and his career up to date is kidding themselves on about the type of guy he is. Talented ? Absolutely, focused and driven enough to harness the talent ? Not seeing it so far. The point I’m making is his social media antics seem quite reflective of the type of person he is, I dont do social media so it bothers me not a jot, suggest it might bother the gaffer though if its distracting from the laser focus he wants. Have a good one 👍🏻

WILLIAM JACK

Happy New Year, lads! Keep up the good work. You show the likes of Sportsound up for the fact and content-free garbage it is...plus your opinions are actually interesting and coherent. It'll never catch on.

chris smith

The IFB have clarified that it WASNT offiside. It wasnt the right decision.

Thomas scroggie

💯 hoggy need to put pressure on the refs

Colin Gardner

Hoggy better teams than the one just now have went to the tattie dome and not won. We've only won there 4 times in about 20 years. We seem to have reverted to type about this squad when playing them. Clement is working miracles with what he has. Remember we had 2 players half fit and a right back playing in midfield(who I'd leave in there). I'm not panicking as I have 100% trust in this manager to bounce the team back and add a few quality players. Not over by a lo g shot!

Gregg

Agree to differ - seems to have had some off field issues, hopefully he can sort himself out and get back to playing how he was last season

Spoon

Agree 100% on that! The hope is everyone who doesnt start well or loses their way a bit comes good, I would love nothing more that Dessers to hit 20 but the wider issue is we need to accept that guys who arrive with flaws take a fair bit of work (a lot of it personal) to address the issue. I have all the time in the world for the Cantwell who rolls his sleeves up and listens to the manager but its not been how he’s done things previously and he seems to take any setback quite hard and let it impact his game. He had a chance coming to us to show the Norwich criticism was unfair and their boss carried the blame for his dip, sadly some of the issues from there seem to have followed him here. I want him to be the guy we see now and then but I’m a realist and have no time for passengers, he can do a lot to keep the focus on his football by not getting involved in the nonsense online, I dont expect him not to be on line but there are areas to avoid that only come back to haunt you when you arent matching the performances with your chat. He will be right up some folks street, he just isnt mine and I can see the flaws in his game and mentality. I know like others have said we are desperate for new heroes but I think we let folk get to hero status too quick before they have actually delivered sometimes.

Gregg

What’s your views on players eating Nando’s??? 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

Spoon

Dunno never had one but I hear the kids go mad for it…..They can do what they like when they are winning trophies by habit, until then they need to avoid nonsense and distraction. The social media thing is a distraction and they can’t simultaneously fish for attention then complain when they get it.

William George Bell

We’ll win the league this season, I’ve no doubt about it. We’re getting better they’re declining and with a few new faces in January we’ll be champions.

John Davidson

Happy New Year guys. Thank you for all of your efforts in 2023 and I applaud your work effort in putting this together on Hogmanay.

Gregg

Was more in jest that - Kyle Hutton et al had the das assembling years ago. As someone who quit socials - it’s best left, but you can’t tell others to do so.

Rose Mcloughlin

Happy new years guys...and for breaking away from your new year celebrations to make this...I felt better listening to you..so upwards and onwards..to 56..🔴⚪🔵🎉💙

Jim Milne

Lots of great points. I agree regarding Cantwell. Unless he learns to brings in more disciplined performances he won't have a long term future under Clement. We had half a team of walking wounded, half our squad missing and we were a Willie Collum decision and Dessers finishing away from a result yesterday. They are 1 bad result away from throwing sharks again. The arrogance of McGregor and Brenda will IMO come back to haunt them. We are definitely in a league title race, and under Clement I believe we have more than just a wee chance.

Spoon

Don’t think he has to quit social media but he does his football talking on the pitch, he can post his dinner or whatever they do to his hearts content, the trying to be smart when you aren’t influencing games or racking up wins to me is a distraction he doesn’t need. By no means suggesting he doesn’t use social media but the Sutton stuff or posting videos laughing at a team (he can’t win against) results just give them motivation to shut him up….which he can’t seem to cope with. Don’t think we are disagreeing and if we win the treble and he’s a big part of it I might join twitter again and throw him a 👍🏻

Bixby Snyder

So true. Leanne Crichton’s views on the handball were terrible. I get that you get rewarded for “Opposite Day” punditry but that analysis was plain dumb.

WILLIAM JACK

It's astonishing that paid pundits often know less about the rules of the game or pretend to, than a slightly interested fan. I once hear Richard Gordon boast on BBC that you'd never catch him reading about an XG...a professional football commentator no less.

Alex Hood

Dessers gets the negative attention, but he didn’t sign himself. It sickens me that the support raised £4.5m in a share issue two years ago and we spent the exact same sum of money on Dessers’ transfer fee. Unforgivable. Clement is doing an incredible job of helping this Board avoid the criticism they should still be receiving. Enjoyed the pod, guys. Well done.

Alastair McGeoch

For me, the meekness (not a surprise as seen this movie before) brings Tav and Goldson as captain and vice captain back into question. Yes, he scores goals and carries the misfiring middle to front but yet again he spends 80 mins not being able to pass the ball ten yards. Walter Smith talked about looking signing targets in the eyes to determine if they had the mindset to play for Rangers and undrotunately we have a squad littered with guys who just don’t have the mindset. In the past we had “average” skilled players in the squad but they had the mindset and could handle the pressure with Rangers. We absolutely lack that. I hope Clement has seen that now. Parkhead showed again we have no real leaders in the squad when they go onto the pitch

Alastair McGeoch

On the “penalty” they didn’t get to correct decision with decisions on wrong order, they got there with luck. Collum looked at the handball and determined no clear and obvious error. 1) That’s an explanation I hope Rangers are demanding 2)if Collum was happy with his initial decision why then did he clearly spend time after the event reviewing the passage of play? I would refer to the Hearts non penalty, why no further clarification on that fuck up also? Because Collum and SFA knew they had fucked up when even Neil Lennon and the whole Sky panel at halftime are saying they cannot believe a penalty was not given. Collum has shown yet again he is incompetent at best and a cheat at worst. We should drive this a la dougie gate so Collum is gone. Difference between 2010 and now, I think harder for the refs to take a supportive view when Collum has clearly made an initial awful decisions and then lied about it. Refs under more pressure if Collum stays than goes.

Could see McInnes shit housing a draw today - hope I’m wrong

Nicholas Dickson

Why do the sfa never do anything to protect the referees , surely a couple of lawyer letters to Celtic cheer leaders would start having an impact or is that wish full thinking ?
