(Typically) excellent show gents. For the record, I don’t think Barasic can play as an inverted fullback either (or he would have done long before now); I was just trying to offer up a point for discussion. Honestly! 😬

Angus Mackay

Whisper it, but Lammers would have shut down MacGregor a lot more effectively than Cantwell did at CP. Lammers would also have been flogged on the message boards for that performance. We instantly became much better when Dowell came on.

Callum

Agreed. Ridiculously one footed (great left peg though). And not sure he has the best football brain.

Russ

Aye I thought Cantwells work coming back the way was abysmal tbh.

Gregg

In an attacking sense he’s a one trick pony - albeit his one trick is elite level. Our full backs get a huge amount of the ball and we need better to build play for me. I’d be sorry so see Yilmaz go as he could be very effective in that

Gregg

Really interesting discussion re the merits of marking McGregor or not. I thought we might have had a blueprint for it when Cantwell did it effectively in the last Of fame last year - albeit he was a false 9. It’s not something I’d thought of but seeing the Celtic captain dominating the ball is probably a trigger for our support - myself included - after seeing brown do it for years. McGregor is a far superior footballer for me. Interesting you think that shutting the space for where the ball goes next is more important - ideally I’d like us to have a forward that can drop in on him and leave the ball with the centre backs - who are far less effective on the ball. Good show guys

Excellent pod gents enjoyed the discussion and appreciate you covering my question. Absolutely agree with the comments around dropping the sentiment when it comes to who we keep and who can go as it blows my mind how little some players do to get ‘hero’ status. You’re both spot on, delivering occasionally doesn’t make you a Rangers player we need it as a benchmark. The points at the end are something that I absolutely agree with in terms of number and value signings. Far too often in recent seasons we have focused on crossing, build up, interchange of play ignoring the fact that at times our middle to front players have never consistently in their career scored goals. You can like a players personality, dig and attitude but it’s no substitute for real raw numbers and (tied to the last point) until we demand more from our mids and forwards we just aren’t giving ourselves the platform that our rivals do. For all lots of our fan base worshipped Morelos I doubt many other teams feared him domestically and most would have gone out to rile him up and knock him off his game more than worry about him scoring worldies. Compare and contrast with our rivals JDM striker who teams will set up specifically to stop…and he still scores. Sorry for another monologue, last point… Tied into both these points and something else you guys mentioned around constant change and turnover I hope that if we are using the loan market it’s not short term and it has a potential permanence to any move. I think our reliance on the loan market, specifically the ‘guys we can’t afford here for 6 months’ market is contributing the churn and added to the injury Armageddon has held us back in fielding a consistent team. Loan to buy, season loans I totally get particularly when it’s to allow the player to prove his worth but I am both uninspired and unattached to guys like Silva who are brought in from the cold more or less on price tag. I think the lack of creative signings domestically is also a huge issue and together these are two major things we should change. As as always excellent content 👌🏼

Graham Roy

Excellent pod 👍🏻 totally agree about the target man! We need someone to put ball in net and happy to drop deep and move defenders about. I wonder if Itten might have been better suited to the way we play now as more emphasis is put on the midfield to support the forwards!

Angus Mackay

Just got round to finishing this. Thanks for making the show, guys, it’s the single most informative and engaging rangers related show anywhere.

Pedro

Some of the Silva not being a target man chat is probably because he's very technical and looks more slender and athletic. In reality if he can hold the ball up then he can play the role. Very keen to see more of him when we restart but hopefully also in the friendlies

Gary Brown

Thanks Adam & Ally for the routinely great Tactics Talk pod. Always a very interesting discussion with great points raised and explored. Realistic, balanced & honest!
