Is the lack of transfer activity directly related to the recently announced FFP charges? If clubs are worried about spend, the lack of activity is natural. If this is the case, then will FFP be revisited? With no "glamour window" will the regulations have to be relaxed again to keep the showbiz element of the game moving

Angus Mackay

Love the hotel analogy, David. Perfect. 👌

Predictor coming back is the news I have been waiting on!

FFP is definitely playing a huge part (even with us). Chelsea, Newcastle, Man Utd all want players but can’t get any without selling.

Guy Incognito

Aye, makes me wonder if the big TV companies and others who get interested in transfers might get together with the "new money" clubs and push against this Bosman -style

Lads do you see what I see in Curtis Jones: the closest thing I've seen in a technical and physical profile to Moussa Dembele (Spurs/Fulham)? Also Newcastle are unfortunate in that the 300m wiggle room they had when SA took over basically took them from a relegation scrap to Europe. Now that's been spent and they've still got a fair chunk of the squad who should be fighting relegation most seasons (Lascelles, Ritchie, Dummet etc) they're buggered because the sellable assets they have are their best players, rather than being able to sell decent talent that was there pre takeover (ASM being the only one).

Guy Incognito

Absolutely. That's why I think it'll take a legal challenge of some sort to change it

Plus you’d imagine City and Newcastle and PSG could come up with a lot of political pressure given their ownerships.

Gordon has that single additional element that lifts his game to elite level! I think he was player of the tournament in the U20 euros (or whatever that summer comp was) and has carried his fitness and form right through. I fully expect him to lose form or tire as the winter progresses, but he’s quality!

Branthwaite was on the list to be let go by Carlisle as they didn’t think he had enough pace. The youth coach told them he’d quit if they let him go and Branthwaite spent the summer with a sprint coach. A great story for any young prospect to always work as hard as you can at all aspects of your game; a sliding door where he could have been playing for Workington v Warrington Rylands in 50mph winds this afternoon!
