Fresh on the back of destroying Hearts at Ibrox, Big Phils rampant Rangers head for Ayrshire and the plastic surface of Rugby Park.

Kilmarnock will provide a stuffy test, having won 70% of their total points at home, but this isn't the same Rangers side that last rocked up there.

Alex, Hoggy and Steven look forward to a night under the lights this Wednesday.

I agree with Alex in that the best defences doing the best in the league, it's the reason we're top atm and also why we won 55. We've always scored enough goals, aiming for 20 goals or less a season will see us win titles imo.

Good listen guys. Loved the centre half debate

Gregg

Spot on re Goldson Hoggy - answer what you were asked 😎. Dominant taught me - that we over romanticise the past, I’m guilty of it as much as anyone.

mark wyper

You are absolutely spot on Steven about the corners Killie take , one of my workmates said that is their biggest strength and have started to mix them up a wee bit definitely something we will need to be switched on too .

Bob MacCallum

Song for Dio. Mo, Mo, Supermo, Super Diomande.

Can I ask a massive favour boys? I really like the podcast however do you think it’s possible when we make a positive comment about a player and the team that we are not compelled to balance that with a negative comment. We are playing really well at the moment, let’s please accentuate the positives in our play and our players. Also, spot on Hoggy, Steven completely missed the question around Goldson and I agree with you in terms of this generation and, if I may be so bold, as someone who saw Butcher & Gough, Goldson has been more consistent than they ever were, the benefit they had was better players around them therefore their mistakes were not highlighted quite as much.

Latimer

Main difference between Butcher/Gough and Goldson is the former put their head in where it hurts, Goldson doesn't do that.

Douglas Innes

Miovski and Lawrence apart it sounds as if Kilmarnock has as the 3rd strongest first 11 in SPFL , certainly defensively would you be taking any of hearts or Aberdeens defenders ??

Hendi

Amoruso was a legend in his own heid. Would have Goldson ahead of him any day of the week. He's not the quality of Butcher or Gough but he's as good, consistent and committed as anyone since. Hes just rarely had the same quality around him.

Douglas Innes

See given modern day footballers get sent off easily compared to the era of your Butchers and Goughs it always strikes me as weird that Tav and Goldson rarely if never see red ......

Gregg

Rangers das assemble - I don’t think you see any defenders nowadays walking about bloodied and bruised in the way they did in the 80s and 90s. Football has changed so much it’s almost a different sport. As an add on - the best defender of that era often walked off the pitch looking as immaculate as he was at the start - Franco Baresi

Latimer

You don't need to get bloodied and bruised getting your head on corners or free kicks, attacking and defending.

Graeme Price

Shine Bright Diomande! Obviously the Rianna song about diamonds 😂

Russ

Van Dijk Gregg mate, probably the best there is in the air and comes off the pitch looking like he's just put his shirt on. I always think it's a good sign if a CB stays on his feet btw, it's why I don't think Dias is as good as everyone else does - the boy throws himself in too much for my liking. Stones is the much better CB.

Firstly it was Souttar not Ridvan that assisted Dessers first goal. Second thank the lord for Hoggy answering the question as asked and not a green light to shit all over Goldson. Third Stevie’s yearly shit on Jack rant despite the fact he has been statistically our best midfielder until this year. To blame him for missing games when though the false idol Gerrard destroyed him is so poor taste blame the cause not the result. Fourth Oswalds have a good song for Diomande. It’s based of Robbie Williams Candy.

Graeme Homer

Not a Robbie or Take That fan then David? It’s good compared to some of the other howlers out there

Interesting discussion gents. For me the theme that runs throughout some of the discussion is that we have some players who are dramatically overhyped and some who are equally undervalued and I think it goes back to our desperation to be back at the levels of old. I agree with Steven that Goldson isn’t in the same category, for this or any generation, of defenders as Gough, Butcher or Amo. Goldson is an ever present, he’s a decent player and has been a good signing / servant of that there is no doubt but to my mind he’s no more than that and some of the passes he gets for stuff he does gets other players horrendous stick. Decent in positioning, decent in the air (not at the opposition end though) and decent at distribution but his biggest asset in a time we have had all manner of dross rotated through the team is he has been fit and consistent but no more. If he genuinely was that good we would have had offers or interest in him after the first few seasons and unless I am mistaken nobody was offering him any higher level that we do ? Let me be clear I’m not suggesting he’s rubbish but he has as many flaws as our other current defenders who are all on par to my mind, of them all Souttars advantage might be that if he can now keep fit he has age on his side. The new guys are in danger of all being Coullibalay clones as they are all now world beaters after a few games and this is a common thing the support does as I think we graps onto our players being good because it means we are back at the bigger boys table and buying in that just below premium market that washes away the memory of guys like Ian Black. Silva is the latest to have done relatively little to merit the praise he is getting currently, decent yes but here for 6 months and not absolutely setting the heather afire. Lundstrum falls into this category, yes he has been better but he does still drift back and loves the ‘give me a 10 yard pass so I can fire it straight back at you’ nonsense when he could just turn and drive himself. Has he improved, absolutely has he suddenly become Pirlo, no and we seem content to take him as the player he is in the last month or so ignoring the long spells of negative play and shadowing the centre backs. That brings me onto the last point, Dessers. The one guy who IS actually setting the heather afire, contributing and racking up numbers still has to justify getting in the team and attracts snark despite continually banging in goals. His fitness is vaslty improved, he is leaner, he is bullying opposition and he for me is our current best player. He is still being slated for missing two or three chances in a game he bags two goals in 60 minutes. He can't ever be offside again and if he’s in the box he’s failed if he doesn’t score. Some of the fan chat sounds more like desperate opposition fans putting him down and talking down his attributes than stuff that should come from us. I can assure you if another team across the city had him the narrative would be he was a world beater and on the rise, we are still focused on what he doesn’t do. Everyone else scores great goals, Dessers somehow scrambles it in. We need to get with the program hes been one of the most effective strikers we have had since we hounded Colak out for only bringing goals to the table. We need to be realistic, in our market and with our funds we will only ever get guys who are decent (and ideally can be coached to be a team more than the sum of the parts) with flaws. That’s OK, it's fine that Goldsons just decent. It's not un-staunch to say Silva’s OK but he’s a loan who has had a few decent flashes. Dessers isn’t perfect and it's fine he’s doing a lot right but not everything. We just seem to flick between extremes with lots of our players and while that’s fine if it's your thing some of the narratives are just flawed. Enjoyed the discussion, Stevie I thought you talked a lot of sense bud, that might say more about me than make you right though…..
