Today, we embark on our FOURTH BTS ALBUM REVIEW!! 🎵

“DARK & WILD” is the first studio album by BTS. It was released on August 20, 2014, with "Danger" serving as the album's title track!

While we’ve already done “deep dive reactions” to several songs on this album, there were many songs that we hadn’t heard yet!

Our “Dark & Wild” Album Review will be broken up into two consecutive parts:

1. PART ONE - Listen to tracks (1-9) and analyze lyrics to songs that we haven’t analyzed yet! We would have listened to all 14 tracks in Part One, but THE POWER WENT OUT DURING OUR REACTION TO “Could you turn off your cell phone”...🤔we’ll pick up here in Part Two!

2. PART TWO - Listen to tracks (10-14) and analyze lyrics to songs that we haven’t analyzed yet! Also, watch live performances + ancillary album-related content (Bangtan Bombs, etc.)!

Lastly, this month’s ARMY GOLD POLL is out now! The theme is “SPECIAL BIRTHDAY GIFTS TO OURSELVES. Poll options include: HoC, TTU, RM & HW 🥳🥳🎉🎉

Grab your popcorn, get comfortable, and GO VOTE!!!

ARMY, as always, we truly appreciate your love and support (WE’LL CONTINUE SAYING THIS UNTIL THE END OF TIME). Your subscription allows us to produce higher-quality reaction videos, and moves us closer to our goal of doing this full-time! Let us know if you have any questions, feedback, thoughts, etc. at any time! BORAHAE!! 💜💜

Dark and Wild supremacy 💜💜💜💜

alyssa

dark and wild is an album which has such underrated b-sides and most people often forget that they released this album so glad you listened to it and did a deep dive into the album

ji_sun

The aliens, I can't 😂

N ♡

That analysis by Jared at 34min was crazy lol I've never thought about that. makes me think about the idea of being married to the game too, like hip-hop/music being their mistress or something along those lines 🤔

Claudia Saavedra

Dark & Wild = masterpice! Please keep reacting to The Rise of Bangtan, I miss seeing your reactions. I love you guys, from Argentina supporting Bangtan and you always!🇦🇷💜

Lauren H.

wait does anyone see the deep dive for what am i to you?

Kia

AAHHH ITS HERE

JenR

Yes! You can go to their post on August 6th where they shared part of this reaction and deep dive into the lyrics. Or go through the song deep dive tag :)

Been waiting, YASSSS. This album stands up to this day. One year into the game and they made a Masterpiece like this😱 Any music phile had to know what overwhelming soul, talent, musicality that these young men possessed from the jump. They took that talent those roots, then worked harder than anyone, sacrificed their youth and they are where they are now Bravo 👏 👏👏BTS. Those roots put down in Dark and Wild are heard in J-hope's Arson, Suga's D-Day, Jimin's Face, RM'S Indigo. This is why Dark and Wild is MY most played BTS album. I rotate music in and out of my car, but DARK AND WILD lives in my CD player. Old Skool BTS will always 💜 have a special place in my heart. I hear and feel their hunger, their dream, their determination in every 🎵 song in those early years.

still making my way through the rewatch but I hope someone else already explained that Spotify incorrectly lists so 4 more as the track when it should be second grade !! They are two different songs. I’ve still not understood why that got mixed up

Butterful

the ending tho 😂😂😂

SierraNicole

Hey Jared & Jordan, I noticed you have So 4 More on your list instead of 2nd Grade. There's always a little confusion around that but they are two different songs and 2nd Grade is the one on Dark & Wild. So 4 More was released for their first Festa and isn't on any album. But because of the pun and the transliteration So 2학년 (2nd Grade) becomes sophomore/so 4 more. So like iTunes and some other places have it wrong. I'm sure you've probably already filmed your reaction but I hope that you did 2nd Grade and not So 4 More because 2nd Grade is such an icon on Dark & Wild. haha. Anyway, just thought I'd try to give you a heads up.

Kecia ⁷

Did you ask the aliens if they know BTS?

JenR

The fact this reaction has a plot line is so funny to me. And I remember having a similar reaction to Can Your Turn Off Your Phone at first but man does that song grown on you (like all BTS songs honestly). I get it stuck in my head constantly. I was singing along to it in this reaction and realising how much I've grown fond of the song! Can't wait for part 2.

taetaebear01 (Lindsey E.)

Every once in awhile, a random bts song will just hit me different and I’ll have a specific phase and im currently in my Rain era, the imagery is just beautiful, it literally transports me somewhere else when I hear it 🥰 Also agree about could you turn off your cell phone. Love the message, and the song is good ! Just not in my top pantheon or anything

Selina T

There’s a silk sonic song called after last night, really great song, one of my fav silk sonic songs, reminds me of interlude: what are you doing now? A little bit. That was the first time I heard that interlude. I immediately thought of silk sonic lol. If you haven’t heard it yet, go listen to after last night, so good :)

Daphne Schaffer

When he does it live it is even more passionate... his face. Broke me. War of Hormones always makes me laugh. So typical of boys girl crazy. It's completely honest.

Alana W.

FINALLY! The day has come. Wow you already heard so much of this album, bravo. Personally, this is one album where I think the order is more about the sonic feel vs the actual narrative. But I read a theory once that if you start the album at the interlude it loosely takes you through the whole cycle of a relationship. Either way, I love how hectic the album is, and how it takes you on a rollercoaster of the up and down emotions of what it’s like to fall in love, fall out of love, and do it all over again in an endless cycle. And somehow find a way to seamlessly slide in an homage to hip hop and a social commentary on phone addiction?! 🤣 I love this album and can’t believe it was produced so early in their career. It’s such a gem, truly, and filled with underrated deep cuts. Glad you pulled out BTS the review. I also think you’d really love reading about this era in the BTS memoir that just came out. Maybe for HYYH I can send a few excerpts that would add to the experience if you’re interested ☺️ BTW the look on your faces when the power went out was priceless. Really putting the dark in dark & wild with this reaction 🤣🤣 can’t wait for the next

Cheryl ⁷ Lambert

I’m always mind blown to think this album was recorded in 2 weeks during their filming of American Hustle Life! The enormous amount of fatigue, pressure and emotions must have been overwhelming at that time but they produced a stand out gem that stands the test of time. Nice to see more enthusiasm for Danger this time around. That’s Yoda from Stars Wars, not Harry Potter. At the end of Cypher 3, the sound coming from the Fish Tank changes to an odd intermittent electronic noise like an old school teletype or fax machine. 🧐 Was this the start of the Aliens decent 👽 🛸? I hope none of the fish 🎣 🐠🐟died 👀😳. 🫰🏻💜🫰🏻💜🇨🇦

Lauren H.

oh rightttttt i forgot haha ty

Amani ○°●•7

Insanely Sick album. Were we not suppose to notice the switcharoooooo of your older content in reaction to and for Cypher 3? .. 🤣🤣🤣 ... I am a rare bird in that I love the funky vibe of Turn your cell phone off. 🎵🎶 its on work out playlist. 🤾‍♀️🤾‍♀️🤸‍♀️ Can not wait for part 2 and live performance reactions 🔥🔥 Ps Thanks for the sweet water 🎏🐟🐠🎣 asmr J&j 🖤💜

Adi

I'm so glad you said the water noise in the background was a fish tank... the curiosity was driving me crazy 😂😂😂😂😂 I wanted to ask, but then I thought, "what if it's a leaking toilet? Then I'd feel bad for asking😣" 😂😂😂😂 Thank you for the album reaction! I listen to you guys while doing my chores, and it makes it 100% better 😁❤️ and OMG the ending was gold 😂

Amani ○°●•7

Btw that ending deserves an Emmy or some sort of Award ... editing fanfukntastic... plot .. awesome... cliffhanger ✔✔✔✔ 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 ... Jordan is gone .. aliens 👽 wanna know how his 2nd date went ... 💜🖤🎵🎶

Lauren H.

omg laughed so hard at kaia, my little sis does the exact same thing

claudia lecusascu ⁷

the masterfull editing at the end got me not gonna lie lol. hope the aliens only passed through boys...

Maëva

Power of BTS! They said turn off your cellphone, the computer, the lights and the power all together lmaoooo

Aylaᴿᵖʷᵖ

I’m loving these album deep dives 😄 they’re how I learned BTS’ music, taking each album in chronological order and listening to each song in order with lyrics or explained YT videos to decode them where necessary. And the Bangtan bombs & interviews to add context.. it’s always good to watch along with you both AND I always learn a new fact via your questions which are great. The pronunciation of “unrequited” is un-ree-QUITE-ed tho using the word is more important than how’s it’s said, I think 💜 I think it’s time you watched the BTS Samsung ads (maybe when you watch a shorter song/ a reaction video needs a wee extra, these could add context to your comments today about phone and flip phones and also show an interesting side of BTS; when they’re brand ambassadors. They’re no longer musicians in these moments but trained actors and models and for me at least, I’m really proud of them being authentically themselves on all their in-house content, letting us see their goofiness and vulnerability and then their musician, onstage personas who can command stadiums, to this more focused and chameleon side they have all learned to develop where they have a different type of performance, each member. https://youtu.be/qCDAKIBM-fU Jimin & RM 1 min 29 secs https://youtu.be/Pii224aV-jY JK & Jin, 1 min 37 secs https://youtu.be/LQEL5ltZFcg Suga, V, j-hope 1 min 29 secs Borahae! 부라해

When you don't keep /all/ the intros and outros in your rotation. "what am I to you?" just slaps hard and when you roll right into Danger? Oof, so good! My thought on Hip Hop Phile, as I was listening to Jared's idea, was the reverse, because hip hop /has/ been good to them, it got them that far. However, I agree that the placement on the album is kinda sus, but, it could be the break that marks the end of the chapter and moves on to the next topic on the album, which is the breaking up phase. This placement of, seemingly disconnected, rap tracks is used again when Cypher 3 turns up. One of the stages of grief is anger, and tonally, Killer fits very well. The line Jordan mentioned is "I have no one to meet but I take a longer shower than usual". I took that as a comment on how when he's meeting someone [the now absent lover] he'd spend a long time in the shower getting all clean and sweet smelling. But now he doesn't have that person and spends all that time in the shower anyhow [crying or moping perhaps?] They are grey inside their hearts and the rain represents their tears. And aliens.....

the song Rain is about feeling lonely and loosing track of time. because i just read the chapter of the BTS book where they talked about while working on this album. they live in the studio and dont go out. so they don´t feel like they are living their live because you are not really part of the world like the rest of us who go to work meeting other people and go home to our family. so when the album is done they get trown out into the hurricane of fans lining up to see them. it must be a crazy thing to se. while you work at home you get more and more famous. they didn´t know how famous they got they couldn't meet army so after having their first concert they finally felt free like they are living. they said that the process of creating music is hard. especially when you write your own music. because it means you have to confess and tell people how you really feel. Suga hated it because he went so deep but still he kept doing it. i feel like music is therapy for him. writing about your troubles to facing it. i think Suga was able to face his fears and overcome it.

Anja

Thank you for that reaction, Jared & Jordan. 💜 I always mentioned RAIN and I'm glad, you like it, too. For me the feeling during listening to this is almost the same during listening to RM's FOREVER RAIN from his Mixtape mono. There is a melancholy going through, I like. I hope the fish in the tank survived the power blackout. 😳

LaNita Starr⁷

Yaaaaas Dark and Wild. When I first became ARMY this and a the other earlier albums were sold out and I was terrified I was not going to get one. Because these albums... love them!! Hahaha, Jordan.... haha Sugas rap "fits in with the Dark and Wild era".... you play soo innocent. Omg... I hope the fish survived the outage 😱 Also your reactions... dying!

Cheryl ⁷ Lambert

I love Forever Rain too Anja. That whole mixtape is 🫠💜

Mariana Núñez

What an intro. Yes, our President is an exceptional rapper.
