Today, we officially wrap up DARK & WILD!!

We listen to tracks 10-14 and analyze the lyrics to songs that we haven’t analyzed yet (including “Embarrassed / Blanket Kick” & “2nd Grade”)! 

These album reviews always end up taking longer than we anticipate. We’ll be reacting to the live performances + ancillary album-related content (Bangtan Bombs, Dance Practices, etc.) at a later date 💜

We are now ready for the next chapter of The Rise of Bangtan…and more importantly…THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOMENT IN LIFE PT 1!!

heads up for ‘i need u’ i recommended listening to the song first without the music video to be able to enjoy it properly and grasp the songs meaning (for this song i think the lyrics can be interpreted in two ways, objectively as it’s self and with context to the bts storyline as with all bts storyline songs) and then watch the music video afterwards to start the BU and begin to create theories. a suggestion but i think this way you would both be able to enjoy the music as much as the storyline. can wait to see you listen to i need u, it’s such a bop and oddly for me a moodlifter? also excited for see you guys begin the BU and start to hear your thoughts on the direction of the storyline. hope you listen to ‘i need u’ and watch the music video along with the albums intro (a suga solo, and i think you guys would like to do a deep dive before hearing it in trob) before watching the next trob episode there are A LOT of spoilers :))))

Ok here’s my blanket kick moment… back in 2002 I moved to Peru as a fresh faced 22 year old, to learn Spanish. A year later I was working alongside a Taiwanese-American colleague, teaching English in a remote university and he was FOINE so I had a big crush on him. I carefully crafted out a text to my bestie back in the UK to tell her “I have a crush on someone at work, what do you think I should do, tell him or just ignore it? It’s so hard I want to smooooooch him” (maybe with even more vowels 😂) and like an idiot I was so lovestruck that I sent the message TO MY CRUSH instead of my friend ☠️ ☠️oh how I realised just as I clicked send and had to watch the lil Nokia paper airplane icon fly off with no way of stopping it. I swear for about ten years afterwards I’d still break out in a cold sweat when I remembered it and didn’t mis-send a message for years afterwards, I’d check so carefully. And the other day, I ended a phone call to the handyman coming to paint the bathroom by saying “love you, bye!” as if he was one of my kids ☠️ I laughed cos I’m wiser now and don’t cringe over my own mistakes like when I was in my 20s thank goodness 😂💜

Thanks for the deep dive into this amazing album. It's hard to believe they came up with this masterpiece so early in their careers. As someone who didn't come to enjoying rap until my 60's (through BTS), Look Here was the first song that drew me in and from there it was down the rap rabbit hole (so many BTS rabbit holes). Don't laugh, but Look Here is my go-to housecleaning song....stuff gets done without it even feeling like work!!! I love 2nd Grade too! Too bad you guys didn't love that song, but it might be one that grows on you (or not). To me it has a similar vibe to Look Here. It refers to them being 2nd year K-Pop artists....no longer the rookies in the industry at this point. I don't think the teachers are ARMY...they are the segment of the population who are NON ARMY...sometimes antis or fandoms of other groups that were sh*tting on them. I can't believe you hadn't heard the expression "old fogeys"...you youngins...lmao. At least we both have B tracks as favs...their B-tracks are so, so good. Thanks for reacting.

Am I the only one who sees Blanket Kick and 24/7=Heaven as a new love interest, completely different from the person being referenced in the previous songs? I see this portion of the album as representing the fickleness of youth/young love. Ahh, there, thank you Alana W, I'm not alone. I believe that the auditory chaos of 2nd Grade is a Feature. It's the musical representation of just how much was going on; each sound is a different layer of life: rehearsals, dance practices, vocal lessons, music shows, recording sessions for a zillion things, /and/ school. 'Bang it Bang it', I feel, is doing triple duty, harkening back to WAB pt 2, BTS firing back at the haters, also the haters firing at them, prejudice, etc.. The 3rd layer would be just how hard they have to actually work at this time, bang it, could be hammering as in "hammering away" until they achieve their goal of recognition and respect by those "teachers" [gen pop] Also, we can't forget the role the 'off-topic' tracks play, which is, imho, to put a break between the different stages of young love, because as you see, Outro: Do You Think it Makes Sense, is representing a different stage, we are back at the breakup of the relationship. Someone please tie a dang rope to Jared's ankles and anchor this man to the ground, because The Truth Untold is gonna put him in the stratosphere. BU gonna give y'all insomnia, good luck!

Naaaah love you guys, but I won't stand for the 2nd grade slander 😤 LOL just kidding, but it is a much beloved early bside! It's understandable you guys wouldn't like it since you love stripped back heavy bass songs, and a lot of bts's early catalogue is really not that! Starting from the HYYH series, I think you're gonna find a lot more songs that are much more up your alley!

Thanks for getting thru this album guys!! While there are so many songs I love I feel there a few of what I call "skip overs" and that does not in any way take away my love for BTS. So I really appreciate your honesty and I hope every one can respect it as well. I was hoping you guys would've listened to So 4 More cuz I think you will like it so much more (haha). The production is the total opposite of 2nd Grade. The overall lyrical concept are similar except delivered in a more mature, deeper way. I can't wait for the next era!! This reminds me of the time I was introduced to BTS so it holds so many beautiful and sad memories of my life. Looking forward to Army Gold reactions....I gave up on the DO ALL 4 protest since I realized you'll be getting to HOC soon with this new era coming up. Jordan please make sure the angels bring Jared back to us when you listen to TTU. Aw I like 2nd grade. The track reminds me of a playground with all that chaos and playfulness so I interpret it as fairly deliberate. Like kids trying to be heard but getting drowned out because they're not top dogs yet. But I can also see where you are coming from. I'm glad you liked so many songs from this album though! Hopefully you get to the ancillary content sooner rather than later, because otherwise I fear you'll never get around to it haha! Congrats on another album review completed!

Jordan talked about enjoying the song more, because you guys already did a deep dive. That's often how I consume music. Sometimes it takes me a couple of listens to really enjoy en appreciate the song. That's why I like reaction videos, because I can see the perspective of others and I can also learn more about the song

Fun fun fun deep dive! I love this album and I adored getting your thoughts and feels as well. Blanket kicks... it's been too long since I was in a relationship 🤦🏾‍♀️ So I dont have much to add.I can say I have had that feeling once when I find someone attractive, and I dont know how to flirt or to let them know Im interested.🤷🏾‍♀️ Probably why I am still single (...literally kicks blankets here...) I must say I adore this album from beginning to end for a variety of reasons. Including the breaking up, falling again, miscommunication, breaking up. As a Swiftie I can relate to this album. Its freaking amazing because it gives me a different point of view with deeper beats, and rap, which hits me hard when it needs to! 💜💜💜 Ok, ok, ok. Wow nice list! The one I have is almost identical. I suggest they also watch Intro: Boy Meets Evil and the Wings Tour Trailer, because they have BU elements in them. Jared & Jordan skipped the Film Out music video when they reacted to the song, so I'd add that one to the end of the list too. By the way, there is an updated 2021 storyline summary on the same channel that you linked of her 2019 video. It has the whole summary in one video, so there's no need to watch 2 different ones. At least I don't think so. I can't wait to see what they think of the BU!

Ayyyy! Thanks for the comment shout out! The last few songs really helped prove my rollercoaster theory haha. Second Grade is not a song I put on repeat, probably because the arrangement is really chaotic and can be somewhat abrasive if you aren’t prepared for it. but the live version is really where this song shines! I love the songs where BTS song can just go crazy on stage and be themselves. Like the review said, it’s a classic example of BTS expressing their personal experiences at that specific point in time. That sincerity is what sets BTS apart from a lot of other acts imo, and something they still do today. I also love the subtle sense of humor that they seem to effortlessly inject into these songs. Attack on Bangtan, 2nd grade, Boyz with Fun, and Idol are songs that especially come to mind. I’m all here for the “do you think it makes sense” supremacy… but you haven’t even heard house of cards yet 😈 just sayin. Didn’t I say the intros and outros can’t go unmissed?? Reallllly curious about your top 10 lists. Every time I try to make this list I get headache and give up 🙃

Loved your thoughts on second grade here! And yes agree the “off topic” songs are such a good way to explain how they break up the album. Always thought the lyrics “I rewind my girl baby Come back to my world” we’re especially pointed about the endless cycle of relationships and that makes me love it as an outro for this album even more.

2nd grade is definitely a crazy song, no doubt. But it’s craziness is what makes me absolutely love it 😂 I know that some people may not like it because of the sound, but to me it’s like a party song

I think until you can better figure out j-hope versus Suga in the songs, maybe you should use lyric videos with their names attached. j-hope sounds different on every song so it can be challenging to pick him out sometimes, I get it. But it might help you learn them better if you can attach name to voice more often. You've gotten them confused a couple times so that's just a suggestion. :)

Also for the BU just some advice: start it when you want to and feel ready because it is overwhelming Don’t get too bogged down with trying to get your head around the symbolism of the constant parts in the music video because everybody interprets them literally. I like to think of it as poetry like 1 poem could and 1000’s of meanings for 1000’s of different people. As long as you can get a simple gist of what the storyline from the webtoon is about it will make it easier the further you get into it then you will understand the symbolism as well as attaching your own meaning to it. Also don’t be disheartened if you don’t understand everything first time around it took me 3 years to understand 💜

Thank you for another great album review. I think that some songs take a few listens to grow on you. Especially the more unpredictable ones like 2nd Grade because once you know what to expect it's easier to sing along. To answer your question, I really do think that Look Here leads into 2nd Grade well. And I think 2nd Grade ties into songs like Hip Hop Lover as they're talking about their experience in the industry/being artists. This album definitely is a journey! My person favs are Hip Hop Lover, Let me Know, Embarrassed, 24/7=Heaven, and Outro: Do You Think It Makes Sense 💜

I did the ol kick blanket move 2 days ago! I have a slight innocent crush on the District Manager (my boss’s boss’s Boss) and he came in and saw me and proceeded to tell me it was nice to see me on the zoom call the other day. And when he asked me how I liked it …I shrugged and said “it was ok”. (Like whyyy did I give off ‘teenage too cool for school emo vibes’!!!) And he seemed so shocked and asked why was it JUST ok. And when I explained to him in detail , he proceeded to laugh and tell me I always give uninterested vibes whenever he asks me something but then gives such elaborate and thought provoking answers after and found it annoying! And all I heard I was “your annoying”. Soo embarrassing! I’ve been playing that moment in my head for 3 days now and I cringe.

I'm sure by now you've figured out that BTS purposeful pairs their heaviest hitting songs, the ones that if paired with a heavy melody would be too hard, with simple or upbeat melodies to make it easier to digest and come back to absorb in small bits at a time with each listen.
