This song was DOPE af (& quite deep).

ARMY, we have a challenging task for all of you: WHO AMONG YOU CAN ACCURATELY COUNT THE NUMBER OF TIMES WE SAID “DOPE” IN TODAY’S REACTION VIDEO (including all occurrences in the title & description as well)? If any of you can provide a correct answer, y’all are DOPE DOPE.

Here are some of our takeaways from “DOPE”:

BTS ATEEEEE that choreography…and left no crumbs.

BTS is making “staying in” cool again.

Within BTS’ music lies all of the “dope” you need to get higher than you ever thought possible 😂

Working until the wee hours of the morning, eating pizza, getting 4 hours of sleep, and doing the same thing all over again the next day…that’s BTS.

BUSAN…now that is how this song is meant to be performed!!!

BTS as reactors…we want more!

As we mentioned in our introduction, below is the UNICEF donation info:

Thank you both for donating 💜💜 I donated too yesterday. Anything for BTS and ARMY - my home away from home. DOPE is the very first song I heard and mv I watched of BTS, then FIRE and I spent the whole weekend watching anything and everything BTS on youtube. 2 days later I was ARMY 😁 That's how hard they hit me 😁😁😂

Guys I'm so proud of you for easily recognizing and differentiating the guys voices. Very rarely it's happened where I need to double check lol. But Jimin is singing that note on the album but JK sings it live. Good catch Jared 👍 So to touch on the subject about perhaps the song could reference drugs or feeling high from dope, I sincerely doubt it. In Korea, drugs are a huge taboo and it's a very serious crime to posses or engage with them, even weed. Their punishments for drug related activity are as severe as murder crimes. So, Dope=awesome=BTS! As for the BU, look guys, I might be in the minority here, but I dont feel its something to put so much emphasis on at this time. Perhaps focusing on their discography first would be the best bet. In my unwarranted opinion, some theories and story lines really don't effect the music. I wouldn't want you to be overwhelmed or sidetracked by diving into it. Its amazing how BTS has a ripple effect on Army by us wanting to match their donation. Thank you guys for being a part of the effort to make the world a better place for our children. I love you guys!!! 💜 Thank you for this dope reaction! BTW, we used to say "thas dope" in my hs days....that was over 25 years ago lol. So, the younger generation actually picked it up from us generation x'ers 😉 💜🫶💜🫶

hannah

currently suffering with covid + I already know this will be the perfect pick me up!! the contract renewal news reaffirmed what the boys have been telling us for months now but I'm so glad its official and we get to celebrate years to come with them, I think it makes the wait until 2025 that extra bit sweeter and I cannot wait for them to be back together as seven. the donation is just a testament to how much we mean to them and us matching it is proof to them of how much they mean to us. I am so lucky to be a small small part of this beautiful community alongside so many giving beautiful humans!! thank you again for your hard work and here's to many more years of bora-fun🤍

Catia🇵🇹⁷

Hi thanm you. I have already donated from my country under army. You are amazing. Cant wait for BU.

fox

Ahhhh I've been looking forward to this 🥰🥰

Kathy⁷

Aaaaaah I was not expecting Dope today!! This was the first BTS song I heard and got me going "...wait who is this?" to my friend and now here I am 3 years later! So this song holds a special place in my Army heart. It's also perfect because the song starts with "welcome, first time with BTS?" 😂 Thank you for sharing the links for the donation! I'm sure Army is going to make it. If every Army just donates $1 we will still surpass BTS's donation. No pressure to anyone, as I know money is tight for a lot of us, but if you can, even a small donation will be going to an amazing cause! 💜💜

Abbie

Yess so excited to see you get into dope! Thank y’all for sharing and donating! I donated earlier, anything for our Bangtan 💜💜 The contract renewal has confirmed what we already knew and what they have continuously told us, Bangtan and ARMY is for life and I’m so glad we get to spend many more years to come with them. And them donating just shows how much we mean to them and vice versa. I’m so grateful they found me and I am forever thankful to be part of the best family/community out there! Bring on 2025. We in this Bangtanverse for life💜💜💜

N ♡

I’ve never dived into the BU but I like watching along with y’all so I’ll be along for the ride 😁 Though I do know a few things about it

Ayleen

Ahhhh DOPE!! I enjoyed watching this 😍 Totally not the main point here but there was a minor mistranslation when Tae was talking about who he is in the music video 😅 what he actually said was Detective Conan, an anime character from the same named anime 😁 Edogawa Conan's (first name being Conan) name does come from Conan Doyle's though so its no wonder the translator might have been confused 😆 its so cute that we grew up watching the same stuff as kids 🤭💕

Michelle

oh my god! i am so excited, this is the song that started it all for me, i fell in love with them (and taehyung, my bias ever since) because of this song in 2016! can’t wait to watch 💘

Zakiya⁷

Doesn’t Jimin sing the high note in the studio version, and in the lives Jungkook sing the high note..??!

Darlene Dato-on

Curious why you thought it was Jimin even on the last video where JK sang the part? That was JK. He can definitely hit that high too!:) Watch the live concert version.

Liz Torres

It’s JK hitting that raspy high note.!!!! Watch a few lives, you will notice.

soyaspinsxxx

Looks like comments can't agree today 🤣 but I'm 95% sure jared is right, in the studio version (and studio version only) the high note is jimin. The first verse that Jin "sings" in the MV is also jimin. If you just listen to the isolated audio for the song, you can tell it's jimin - but they changed the parts for the MV and all live performances!

Chelsea Iwuala

I'm excited for y'all to react to "ON." Y'all will get to see BTS on beast mode. Definitely one of my favorites. There's a mixture of Hip Hop, Rap, R&B, and amazing vocals. I'm really excited for y'all to get into it. I suggest yall read the lyrics first and then watch the MV so that yall won't miss anything in the MV.

Cuentos a la sombra

Well.. I dont know how to start but here it is... The BU is extremely complicated so I recommend that you watch all videos back to back in order, is different that you are used to do but is the best option. Since the BU has many details and is focused on the visual, it can be complicated for you if you leave a lot of time between the videos because you will not remember the details that are repeated in the story. I recommend that you focus on the music videos for the BU and then you can analyze the lyrics when you review the album it belongs to, since the lyrics and the meaning of the song are not related to the BU. And remember to watch till de very end because the most little detail is needed to understand the big picture that they are trying to portrait. When you finish the videos you have to read the "Save Me" webtoon and the video summary explanation by XCeleste. 1. I NEED U - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjskoRh8GTE 2. ok yall asked for a DOPE counter and I delivered lol (this really helped me stay more concentrated at 1am hehe) DOPE count : 102 not counting mv and live performances (seems a lot but I was expecting more ngl) Anyway DOPE is in my top10 songs and has a permanent place in my shower/hype playlist, the choreo and the beat really makes you go all out. And yes that is JK doing the high note Jordan got it right this time lol Cannot wait for the BU and all the HYYH content coming up. We are all in for a good and long ride.

Zakiya⁷

I listened to the song again .. if you listen to the studio version you can hear jungkook and jimin going back and forth with the lyrics… and when the high note comes it clearly jimin voice… but in the live it’s jungkook…!?!

Alix Drifty

BU - I think if you just continue with how you're doing things now, in a chronological fashion, you'll naturally see the BU in the same order that ARMY first experienced it too. You just have to consult the BU list that you have to make sure you're not missing released content between albums - such as the Prologue video, the Wings Short films that came out in the weeks leading up to the release of the Wings albums, etc. For the BU, you also have to watch the Japanese MVs, as they contain additional information about the storyline. But yeah, if you just go in release order, then you'll get to have the story unfold the same way it did for ARMYs. The only question is how you want to tackle The Notes, which are now books, but originally were released in randomized segments along with albums. My suggestion would be to get to the end of the video BU content and then read The Notes books... that way you won't have the entire storyline spoiled before you see it unfold in video form. I also don't know the list you have - but there is also tidbits of the BU storyline in the VCRs for the concerts that they put on during this time - BTS On Stage and Epilogue tours. So if you want to have a few concert days, and can find downloads of those concerts - I recommend watching them! Also DO NOT WATCH BU EXPLANATION VIDEOS until you've seen/read everything and are curious - because a lot of them go into speculation, etc, and it can be confusing and change how you view the content. I think it's better to interpret art for yourself, rather than assume there's a right or wrong answer and that explanation videos have somehow gotten it "right" and anything differently you thought was "wrong."

sevenprettyboys

that last paragraph!!! So IMPORTANT to interpret art for and by yourself before seeing others' interpretations of it. I hope they see this comment!!

avery_aja⁷

Thought I'd let you know that Jimin sang the high note in the recorded ver. and JK sings it live..I think that is why they are so confused

Amani ○°●•7

Jared and Jordan These are must watch lives of Dope ... 😏🎶🎶🎶💜🌌🖤

Yas

The BU starts with the MV for 'I need u' and I'd recommend reacting to the song first (audio + lyrics), then watch and focus on the MV. Immediately jumping into the MV can be overwhelming. It's important to analyze the MV and take notes that you can look back on when reacting to other BU related MVs later on in chronological order. Pay attention to the members and each of their struggles/ stories. But most importantly, enjoy the intense ride and speculate! Make up theories with the information you gather, and as you go further down the rabbit hole, everything will slowly start to make more sense (hopefully) lol.

Sabrina K

THIS IS THE SONG THAT GOT ME INTO BTS, ugh the memories, seeing them for the first time and just being so mesmerized by these boys this song was so hype as well as the choreo, it will forever be a favorite song of mine<3 Also one thing about kpop is the amazing synchronization and dancing within groups, other groups like NCT, Ateez, Seventeen omg their choreos be amazing, they all dancing machines I swear

Cheryl ⁷ Lambert

I hope you recover quickly and feel better soon. I have 3 friends currently recovering as well. 🫂🫰🏻💜🇨🇦

Cheryl ⁷ Lambert

Thank you both for donating and providing the links. Just did mine (I hope I posted on X correctly 🙄). It would be wonderful to celebrate their contract signing by matching a billion. This is a fabulous community. I love the choreography especially the footwork in Dope and that saxophone 🎷! Dope count - a lot 😂😂 🫰🏻💜🫰🏻💜🫂🫂🇨🇦

taetaebear01 (Lindsey E.)

I agree with people who are saying to just continue chronologically for the BU ! There are bits and pieces scattered throughout so the best thing to do is just try to take note of it when you come across it. I had already seen a lot of BU content before I even was aware there was a BU and just didn’t realize certain things were related ! I think just take note of it when you get to it, try to come up with some ideas if you can, and then eventually it will be fun to watch a theory video that can tie some of it together bc you might miss some things. I’m all for people coming up with their own interpretations but I literally think without any theory videos, I would’ve never been able to make any sense of it 😂 some people are just built different haha. I think THE MOST important thing to keep in mind going into the BU is that it’s not a straightforward story that’s going to be clear to you right away or possibly even after you watch an explainer haha. You’re probably most of the time going to feel like you don’t know what’s going on and it is perfectly normal. So just try to enjoy whatever you get out of it and don’t stress :)

IfraH

BTS have 6 MVs with a Billion views, with "Dynamite" and "Boy with Love" being nearly on 2 billions

Julieee

Yes, I noticed it too when I first heard it. As well as Jared. 😅 In the studio version, you can clearly hear Jimin. But in the live performances, it’s definitely JK. They both nailed it though! Maybe that’s why many people got confused 😍

Alix Drifty

You're both right about the high note - Jimin does it in the studio recording, but for the MV and for the performances, JK does it. In the MV, JK and Jimin actually lipsync each other's lines a couple of times during that section (if you listen really close to the voice, you can tell when it doesn't match who is lipsyncing), and then in the performances JK started doing he high part.

Julieee

During lives, no doubts that it’s definitely JK. But I think Jared was referring to the studio version which was sung clearly by Jimin.

Liz Torres

Yes. Studio version was Jimin. That I was told when I first heard the song and started asking 😉

Julieee

If you could listen to the studio version carefully, you can clearly hear Jimin singing that high note. But in live performances, it’s definitely JK. It’s not really a big deal though because they both can do it and nailed it but I was just shocked to see in the comments that only few noticed it. 😅

Seraphina

J & J There is a guide writen by army , that should give you an idea about most of the BU content. I have added the link below. The order of the MVs should be helpful. I hope this helps and not overwhelms you. 😆 http://bucontentgui.de/

TeeDub1013

Watching Suga do this choreography gives me joy every single time 😊

Kecia ⁷

This post it to answer two of your questions. Does BTS have any videos with a billion views? Of course they do! 6 in fact! In no particular order they are: Boy with Luv (1.7B), Dynamite, Mic Drop, DNA, Fake Love, and Idol. Blood Sweat and Tears is getting close too. Mirrored dance practices are the dance practices flipped. They are used for learning the choreography. The dancer mirrors what they see on the screen. It's really hard to move right, when you see the dancer on the screen move left...so mirroring is used. It's not something you would want to watch unless you are learning the dance.

Kecia ⁷

Let's talk BU! I see you've already got a lot of great information. I'll try not to be duplicative. Many, many reactors start the BU but very few finish. It is not a linear story, it's cryptic, and uses a variety of media. It's challenging, but in the best possibe way. So don't worry if all the pieces don't seem to fit in the beginning. Suggestion 1 - Don't read the comments unless you want to be spoiled. ARMYs get excited and it's hard for some to hold back. Suggestion 2 - The song lyrics are not part of the BU, so you can do a song/lyric reaction and a MV reaction to see the story. Suggestion 3 - Without giving anything away, keep an eye open for recurring images. Keep an eye on how the boys are paired. Suggestion 4 - Lumpens uses direction to orient the viewer to the time. When people or things move left, it represents the past. When people or things move right it represents the future. Suggestion 5 - Don't worry too muc about not understanding everything. When you get to the Webtoon it will fill in a lot of gaps for you, and the notes will fill in even more. Suggestion 6 - Read Demian by Herman Hesse before you start the Wings short films. Suggestion 7 - Have fun! The BU is a wild ride!

shelby🖤

maybe i’m reading way too much into it but i always thought they were implying that hard work and dedication is their “dope.” everyone is out doing whatever tf nonsense but they’re addicted to perfecting their craft. mirrored dance performances are used so people can learn the dances easier so no need to watch it. ACTOR BTS IS COMING!!! i think you should go in the order it was released like we all did but maybe that’s just me.

Lauren L .

I’ve been working 12 hour days and I’ve been WAITING TO COME HOME TO WATCH THIS yayayayayayayayayayayayay

Lauren L .

And my unsolicited 2 cents - take the BU in exactly as it was presented to us at the time it began. Then watch some really good explanation videos. Honestly that’s all you need to get a 60-70% grasp on what is going on. During Covid I went back and I re-watched everything and I got a little bit of a deeper understanding of the meaning behind things. But I think that’s a personal decision - how deep you want to take it. I am a self proclaimed story line enthusiast. Idc. The solo projects are linked people!! 😆😆🤦🏼‍♀️ but in reality it’s over (FOR NOW). I think you guys will really enjoy it organically exactly as it was presented, and exactly, as it was meant to be consumed. I can’t wait to see all of your shocked faces. You have no idea what’s coming. I really think BTS is going to find you both again. 💜💜

J. Ezbet

Hi Jared and Jordan! You asked for advice on how to approach the BU - I recommend, for now anyway, going through album by album chronologically, just as you have been. That's how you've decided to approach their work in general, so I suggest sticking with it - it fits your style and it fits the way the BU was meant to be experienced. The BU story unfolded bit by bit over a period of YEARS. There will be some extra videos to watch (onstage: prologue is early on) and some concert VCRs, trailers, and other media along the way. You might decide later to jump ahead to watch a few BU videos sooner, just as you've decided to do from time to time with checking out more recent music, but I suggest waiting on that. At some point, you'll want to watch them all again. I think returning to I Need U after a while, and REwatching BU videos back-to-back would be a great deep dive! You could even make a series of rewatch videos! Lol So excited for y'all that you're getting ready to experience the BU - it's truly amazing. 💜

Lauren L .

Yes! This. I think they were still coming into their vocals, jimin was maybe a bit nervous to sing it live. So I think they switched them. —all personal opinions / thoughts of course —

Lauren L .

They were so tired during Count Down 🫤

Skylar T⁷

This is at least the 3rd time Jared has asked "Who's that?" when it comes to the vocal line. And the answer is always JUNGKOOK.

-Mac-

I think, since it's after the fact, watching all the BU content, in /chronological/ order, rather than release date may be more satisfying. You'll still have to play detective, and watch for every dang detail, because /everything/ is a hint or clue [the only spoiler y're getting], so it still won't be easy to track. P.S. I stopped tracking the word Dope after I hit 60. I got distracted paying attention to what you were actually saying rather than counting. I /will/ say that Jordan was the leader in this; he worked the word Dope into nearly half of his sentences, I think!

PamTan

I loved that you closed with the Busan concert, if you can have the official transmission for next time I'll appreciate it. I'm sure you will start doing it for every single song they perform. I love that concert with all my heart.

Ale

Dope and mic drop were the first 2 songs I heard from BTS back in 2016. I was in a toxic relationship and he immediately got mad at me for watching guys dance. Even though he knew dance has always fascinated me. I’m glad I was able to find my way back to BTS in 2019 when I was going through the hardest year of my life. It’s nostalgic to see you guys react to dope🥹

J. Ezbet

These are several spoilers. I think it would be really good if you'd delete your comment.

Kahalia Dixon

the recording is Jimin but JK took that note in live performances

I adore this song so much and love all the easter eggs they included during the MV, jacket sketch, and promos. Some extra bits of info I don't see discussed here yet (sourced by some highly observant ARMY): - In the MV, Yoongi is a fireman (probably in the 119 Fire Fighting Corps, with the rank of sub-deputy chief or Captain based on his badges) - Jungkook's policeman uniform has the number KNP 868 which corresponds to the special weapons and tactical squad from the Korean National Police, Force868. - Joon is military, the insignia on his hat is for the US Army. - There are two Deutsch citations behind them during one of the group dance, one on the left and the other on the right, behind the spotlights: “Keine profite mit der miete” which means “No profit with the rent”. It was used some years ago to protest against the price too high for poor people to afford housing. “Friede den Hütten! Krieg den Palästen!” (“Peace to the people! war on the palaces!”) from the introduction of Der Hessische Landbote (The Hessian Courier), a pamphlet against society’s problems, written by Georg Büchner. These tie into the sentiment of speaking out against the systems that created the 3포 and 5포 generations mentioned in Joon's verse. ------- For the jacket sketch in the elevator: - At the bottom of the panel of buttons the saying “Life is the farce which everyone has to perform”, which is a citation from Arthur Rimbaud and is originally “la vie est la farce à mener par tous” (from Mauvais Sang, Une Saison en Enfer). Rimbaud’s poems also appeared in the album book of the album. -Jungkook and Hobi both mention their props with numbers on them during the Bangtan Episode you watched. In fact, all the members had batons with numbers on them (they were all dressed in police uniforms too) for the fan meeting they held during their promotions for this. Here is the breakdown of those numbers and meanings: Joon- 20150*** - since the last few numbers were erased or rubbed off, we only can really theorize the actual meaning but many attribute it to some of his collabs that came out in 2015, namely his collabs with Warren G. Jin- 20150505 - this is the date of their first music show win with I Need U. Yoongi- 20101107 - this is the day Yoongi moved to Seoul. Hobi- 20101224 - the date Hobi moved to Seoul (The prop he had in the jacket sketch was a helmet with the same numbers on it). Jimin- 20130612 and the word "STAGE" - their debut stage date. Tae- 20110907 and "HOLD ME TIGHT" - He moves into the trainee dorm on the 3rd, so many believe this is the day he signed/officially joined BTS. And a reference to the song he wrote lyrics and medley for. Jungkook- 20110424 - The date he officially joined Big Hit (he would have been not quite 14 at the time in international age system). I guess I'll stop rambling now 😅 Sorry for the long message, I geek out over little details like this. Which leads me to be very excited with the upcoming BU experience 👀 I agree with what others are saying, watch in order of release, read or understand symbolism and themes of Demian, set aside time for the webtoon and Notes after the video contents, keep in mind lyrics and MVs are separate entities for the BU MVs, and enjoy the ride! Thank you for all you do for us! Borahae 💜

Butterful

i hope j&j get to watch Dope performed in LY tour / concerts other than Busan because those stages are LEGENDARYYY

Kia

Literally has nothing to do with this video lol but I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU GUYS TO HEAR MOVING ON OMGGGGG. IT'S ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITES

Kia

Honestly I have no idea about how to attack the BU. I went about my entire BTS journey very unorganized. I probably still have not seen all of the BU content myself. So it'll be an amazing journey for me as well, however way y'all end of going about it.

J. Ezbet

I think you've made some really good points about spoilers - that's always an issue. People get wrapped up in explaining the BU. I hope that can be avoided and I think we should remind people. And at some point, I do think it would be good to jump ahead because there's a lot of music to get through on all of LY for just a few BU MVs. But I think at least through Wings, it would be a great experience for them to work through it over time - I think they would have lots of fun with that. I think watching one video after another doesn't give a person time to soak it in. It's too much - I think it's meant to be considered, to be experienced, not just watched. It's art, not just a straightforward story. I think a lot is lost watching one right after the other. I'm sure a lot of us have seen reactors do that - I don't enjoy that much. It's over in no time, no new insights. To me, that's not experiencing the BU. And while the lyrics don't tell the story, the themes of the albums definitely do support the BU story-telling. And some song lyrics do directly relate to the story. The BU and the albums are a package with the themes and stories developing together. I think the BU story is richer when tied to the albums. I think Jared and Jordan could do their usual kind of video with I Need U - watch the video, read and talk about the lyrics, watch the dance practice, some live performances, and the MV making. Their reaction to the INU MV would be what they think of the BU so far. Another time, they could watch onstage: prologue. And later, with Run - the usual again, the MV, lyrics, dance practice, live, etc. Talk about what they think so far. I'd love to hear their insights! At some point, they could go back and watch from the beginning. I think that would be fun, too. And maybe when they get up to LY, finish it up. Maybe in 2025, we have new BU content! But I really believe that however Jared and Jordan approach the BU, they're going to enjoy it, and I'm sure we'll all enjoy it with them. I can't wait! 💜

Aylaᴿᵖʷᵖ

I also went through chronologically when I started listening to BTS’ back catalogue and I LOVE Dope for the excellent choreography, interplay between the members esp Suga & RM “enemy/energy” part and and a dancer this MV just makes me so happy; pop at its best. And as you mention; not a surface level song. What BTS do best! Excited to dive in…

And

Might be an unpopular opinion about the BU. But because it's so massive and kind of hard to understand without a DEEP dive, I would recommend going through the discography without keeping it constantly on your mind and enjoying the music as is. As then some other cool things about the song, choreography etc. might get unintentionally ignored. And once you have gone through the discography (with BU related MV's) I would then go back and watch the music videos + other content in order by focusing on the storyline. There are people who know more about the BU who probably have a list of every BU content in order so that would also be helpful in navigating the big confusing world of the Bangtan Universe lol

Elena

Hey Jared and Jordan! Personally, I think it would be fantastic if you do a deep dive into the song lyrics, choreography, and live stages first. That way, you can appreciate the songs as a separate entity from the BU storyline since the lyrics don't correlate with what you see on screen. After digesting the songs sonically, you can focus more on the visuals of the MV and figure out what's going on without getting distracted. Deep dive into the albums without the BU music videos to appreciate the music first. After exploring the three albums, it would be cool if you watched all of the HYYH BU MVs in order like you're watching a movie, but with some commentary and detective work in between the MVs: 1. I NEED U 2. I NEED U JAPANESE VER 3. Prologue: BUTTERFLY 4. RUN 5. RUN JAPANESE VER 6. Epilogue: YOUNG FOREVER And then after you're done watching this BU content, you can watch the HYYH-era Rise of Bangtan ep. 8-11 because MV content will definitely appear in those episodes. And then read Demian to prepare for the Wings era. If I could go back in time, that's how I would do it, but you do you. There are a lot of ways to tackle the BU. I'm sure whatever you do will turn out great! 💜💜💜

Kath

Yes I was hoping someone would point that out. Detective Conan is a hugely popular anime especially in Japan, Korea and other Asian countries. Tae’s costume is exactly like the anime including the glasses. Being the anime and manga fan that he was and still is it was very appropriate. 💜

Lynn ⁷

84! 😂 okay that was the count I have on the number of times DOPE was mentioned by both of you. And after watching the whole reaction, now that was DOPE!! 🤣🤣 That adds up to 85! Thank you as always J&J Borahae!! 💜💜💜🙏🏻

Magdalena

Am I the only person who has problems playing the last three videos? They stop literally every 30 seconds. Help...

CandykOh

Guys, go through the entire album first before going into the BU. I beg.

prachi sahu

http://bucontentgui.de/ This may help you. I think the best way to dive into BU is to go through the MV and different content released by bighit in the correct order(the above link has the order of MVs). You can enjoy the music as well as keep exploring BU. Just know that the music and Storyline happening in the MV are not always connected. There are alot of amazing explanations videos that you can watch after you finish all these videos! PS- I hope you dont skip "HYYH on stage prologue " Warning- Do not read "about the timeline" section of this page as it contains spoilers

soyaspinsxxx

Since you already have a list of all BU content in order, here's my two cents: 1. The BU is gonna force you to explore BTS's work in a brand new way. The videos don't always correlate to the lyrics and music (as is the case for I need u) so you'll have to split your reading in two: music/lyrics/dance practices/lives and the mvs/BU story. It's all about the visuals. Whether you choose to focus on the music first or the BU interpretation first is up to you, imo! 2. DON'T WATCH EXPLANATION VIDEOS! For years, ARMY had to piece together the story from the content they put out. There were a lot of theories. The webtoon 'save me' confirmed some of them and made the story clearer. So until you read that and the notes, hold off looking at explanations like xCeleste's! Have fun studying the visuals and written content like the notes and smeraldo blog, and come up with your own theories, that's the beauty it! 3. The BU story is told in a nonlinear fashion. In every video, there'll be visuals that can be interpreted in different ways. To not miss anything as you go through your timeline, I suggest taking a looot more notes than usual. So, even if you get to Wings and all the wings BU content much later, you'll be able to pick it up without missing important details. I would also suggest rewatching the previous BU content before diving into a new video on your own time. You won't have to record that for us, of course 😅 Hopefully all these comments are not gonna scare you off! The BU is a deep dive and can be confusing at the beginning, but every new piece of content you watch will make you understand more. Looking forward to your theories and interpretations for this incredible journey into visual arts and storytelling! 💜

leat

true i think they should attack it slowly like, i need you being the first piece of the story and they can write down what they find interesting and do the same with the next content after that. so when they hear xceleste explanation it will make more sence

Dreamer

In my opinion the best way to dive into the BU specially for you guys that releases a mixture of content, if you want to understand and explore it you should put the rest of the content on hold and stay on the BU for a while because if you watch something and then put it aside when you comeback to it, it will be harder for you to keep up and understand what’s going on

prachi sahu

Yes! Avoid this section of the page if you choose to opt for this.

CandykOh

I disagree. The BU is more so on the visual aspect than the song. The songs can be listened to on its own w/o connecting it to the BU.

prachi sahu

i agree. Remembering as much details as possible is very imp. If you hold BU and watch something else then that will confuse you😂

Maya

because it sounds like Jimin and it is Jimin. On the recorded version Jimin sings it. They switched some parts for live performances. And in the MV you can clearly see Jimin mouthing parts that are sung by Jungkook and vice versa

Maya

I would also want to add that to some point in time (like 2016 or so) bts' mvs were also uploaded on another channel. So if you'd were to combine the views I think fire and bs&t would also have more than 1b views.

leat

to be honest maybe not focus on the BU right now maybe write a few notes down on what you see in each BU M,V so that you can go back later to interpret it when you watch the next BU related content. and at the end, you still might not get the connection of the stories. then you can watch an explanation video. you can´t just skip around, to get the full story now. it will ruin your album flow

sevenprettyboys

I agree. I would like it if they are able to experience the music as a separate entity without thinking of BU everytime they listen to the songs, and that will only happen if they listen to the songs first and then go through the MVs and the storyline.

Natalie

Jared is right about the height note. The recorded version they had Jimin do the high note. Jungkook does it in live performances. You can clearly tell the difference 😂 Jimin has a lighter/higher tone and where Jungkook, it has a more raspy tone.

Naeppittam

I had the same problem. I downloaded the Patreon App and am now watching on there without this freezing

Maya

right. the bridge goes Jungkook >Jimin >Jungkook> Jimin (high note). Even tho in the mv it's shown Jimin for the first two lines and then Jungkook next two lines.

Natalie

Yes, exactly that! It shows that both of them can hit the high note but in their own different ways 🔥

Maya

But here it was Jimin?????

Cheryl ⁷ Lambert

These are all great comments and suggestions. What will complicate things for them is that they are temporarily in California without access to all the albums, books and notes that have been sent that they will need to read for their journey into the BU. I don’t know how that will affect things going forward.

Marta P

This reaction was DOPE! 💜

Magdalena

It works 🥳🥳Thank you very much🫶🫶

Gabbie

My suggestion may be unpopular but I would suggest you read the webtoon, if it hasn't been deleted it must been somewhere someone can share. You can read that on your own and then react to the videos in order as how they have come out. And wrap it up with one of xceleste explanation videos so you can tie it all up. Might be the most uncomplicated way 🤷🏻‍♀️

viperine

I can't help but think of tackling as how they released it..i remember when the "I Need You" video dropped and we were all stunned.. Then listened to the album that released at the same time, then experienced the BU content as it started rolling out. Was a magical time to be ARMY. Before all the theory videos.. We just all swapped theories on Twitter 24/7 for months at a time.. And the roll out never stopped for 3+ years. Good times.

viperine

That said.. I'm not sure y'all will even remotely catch the story line while reacting. It's something that takes ungodly amount of rewatches and notes.. And people to bounce theories with .. So yeah, explanation videos & the "Save Me" webtoon probably is the best course for you guys (?) Still think the album should be separate from the visual content. 99% of lyrics have zero to do with the storyline and the ones that somewhat relate aren't on this album

Purple

yes, it is jimmy singing in the official recording but JK sings that part live! Also their professions in the MV: RM Airforce, Jin Doctor, Suga Navy, JHope racer, Jimin Office employee, Tae Conan/detective, JK police officer

sevenprettyboys

While I agree that one watch or even a few watches is not enough to get the storyline (I'm not even sure of it myself, even now), I do think they SHOULDN'T jump to explanation videos immediately. I think they should let it simmer for a while, and maybe host a live or find a different way to connect with other armys to discuss theories with. The few "exPlAnation" videos I've watched, I've been really disappointed - they've all seemed very rushed, preemptive, and utterly underwhelming (eg. The Like Crazy bookish theories one). As you said, I truly think twitter is one of the best and safest places for theories, but I'm sure J & J can find a way to make other avenues work if they don't want to discuss theories via twitter.

viperine

Right. I guess I didn't express myself clearly because I didn't mean for them to not try to theorize at all, I mean that's part of the whole BTS experience imo. I was just thinking about how easily J&J tend to get confused and didn't want them to feel burdened is why I suggested explanation videos. (Though the best one isn't on YouTube any longer) I think viewers often expect more from reactors than how they themselves went about their BTS journey, and don't want people all up in arms in the comments about how J&J missed things.. It wouldn't be fair. Though it's hard to separate sometimes, the music does in fact matter more at the end of the day.🤷🏻‍♀️

Hai Nguyen

THE BU, OH MY GOODNESS THE BU.. Here’s my opinion, listen to each album, enjoy the lyrics, meaning, and the MV’s before tackling the BU’s storyline as it could get extremely confusing. This way you guys will be able to truly enjoy both aspects (music and BU’s storylines) These 3 albums have truly shaped BTS and allowed them to grow into the artist that they are today. You’ll also start to see the different creative sides of each member as it’s shown throughout this trilogy. I look forward to all of it!

Cheryl ⁷ Lambert

I wish I had been ARMY at that time to experience it. 💜

viperine

Well, just think..there are ARMY that wish they'd been ARMY in the era you discovered them (don't know when it was?)! Every era is unique. I feel blessed to have experienced beginning of BU era, as well as the bittersweet throes of the Jungian Theory era.. But it's ALL special. I love how BTS constantly reinvent themselves, yet somehow with ongoing intertextuality 💜

Cheryl ⁷ Lambert

I’m looking forward to taking the journey through the BU with you. I hope you take it at a pace and in a fashion that you feel comfortable with so that you enjoy this experience. There are plenty of ARMYS to help guide you along the way but I hope you don’t feel pressured. 🫰🏻💜🫰🏻💜

Shalia

I wasn’t an ARMY during the BU era. Till now, i’m so lost. 😂 I will approach this BU Journey with you guys as if it’s my first time going into it. This will be fun. 💜

sevenprettyboys

Oh! I totally agree that they shouldn't feel burdened about it. I just think that if they want to get into it, I hope they give themselves a fair amount of time to interpret it and let themselves sit in that for a while without it feeling like a burden. Like it's totally okay to be very confused about what's going on.

soyaspinsxxx

While I understand some of the comments above, I really think it's not realistic to either have them react to BU content ONLY until it's done or ignore the BU entirely for the time being. Option 1 will likely take the fun out of it for them and option 2 means they won't be able to avoid spoilers and will miss a huge chunk of iconic videos. J&J, I think you can continue with the timeline as you've been doing, but keeping in mind that every frame in the videos matters, that you'll have to take plenty of notes and that you'll have to revisit past BU videos on your own time to help understand the next one. I swear this is the last thing I say about this, sorry, I'm so involved in this conversation 🤣🤣

Skylar T⁷

Yes, I learned that from the comments, I didn't know, I'm happy to still be learning. In the first performance even though it was JK, he still doubted it. :)

Fran G

Regarding Dope ... I am attaching a link to the Permission to Dance -- LA concert Day 4. This is kind of a combo of the original and the Busan in that they are moving around interacting with the audience but there is still some choreography. I really liked this version which was early in the show with Fire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEDspUU-RQw

alkishaven

I will be honest with you, I could have sworn that when Jimin comes forth and sings 'ireokhae bangtan style', it's actually JK singing on the track itself. But I have no idea why they chose Jimin to lipsync it. Maybe to make up for the line distribution?

yes

You're actually right! In the official recording as well as in the live version, the "ireoke bangtan style.." line is first sang by JK, then Jimin finishes the line. HOWEVER, for the next line, in the official recording, Jk starts the line "maeili hustle life.." and Jimin finishes with the high note "i gotta make it fire baby", whereas in the live version, they reversed it so JK does the high note instead. I have no idea why tho'. =)

baliyuma

The $20 tier is disrespectful. How can you charge us more than the actual artist does (free)

mettemirella

Okay after reading your long and thoughful comment I think I have to change my mind and agree with you. There is so many things you sayd that I didn't think through.

LaNita Starr⁷

I cannot give you my opinion on BU as I will be watching it for the the furst time with you! Supa excited to see what you guys decide. It's JK! 😜😂 I am very very very excited to watch you guys go through this album. You guys are very fun to watch and I appreciate how genuine you guys are! You nice. Keep going

J. Ezbet

Hi Erica. I respect your opinion. I just want to point something out. The BTS video is free but the $20 monthly membership to support Jared and Jordan so we can watch their reactions to ALL the videos they do in a month, a whole library of videos, not just one video. They spend a lot of time planning, editing, and responding to comments. It's their job and they need to make money. Bighit makes their money selling really expensive products including lots of videos. I think Jared and Jordan work really hard on the videos they make for us. I just wanted to add my opinion.

N ♡

It's not a necessity! You aren't obligated to subscribe, and you can still listen to all the songs they react to on your own, for free. 😁 They also have a free YouTube channel and post there as well :)

N ♡

26:30 - So, as you guys read, the "Giving Up 3 Generation" (3포세대) and the "Giving Up 5 Generation" (5포세대) are almost like nicknames, used to refer to young people in Korea, who are "giving up" on things like courtship, marriage, having children, homeownership, and employment. In reality, these things are becoming more and more difficult to attain for various social reasons... Namjoon is poking fun at these nicknames for how unfair and ridiculous they are, so he's like "okay well I like beef jerky so I wanna be called 6포세대." 6포 follows the 3포/5포 setup, but it's pronounced the same as the word for "beef jerky" in Korean -- they're homophones. 6포세대 (yookpo sedae) = "Giving Up 6 Generation" 육포세대 (yookpo sedae) = "Beef Jerky Generation"

J. Ezbet

Hi Szeth and JKay! I'm sorry for the delay. I was on the road driving home so was away from all this for a few days and couldn't do it. Szeth, don't apologize for a long comment! You made some good points! I'll try to get to everything - About paying attention to the visuals in the MV's: I actually think they do pay attention to the videos, here they were commenting on the clothes, the camera/one-take, and the choreo. For Boy in Luv, they talked a lot about the MV. For The Astronaut, they talked about the MV - the little girl, the spaceship, the story told in the video, even about Jin's throat quivering. The videos from Hope World. Daechwita MV. I hadn't really thought about this before, but I was thinking about what you said, about not really analyzing the videos, and I realized so many of Jared and Jordan's videos aren't about MV's with videos to dig into. Lots of live performances and other content. I think maybe since they are going in order working through the albums, and most songs on the albums don't have MV's, they aren't watching as many MV's as other reactors. I don't know. I never thought about that before. If they really don't care about videos or the BU story, or they get bored with the BU, then that's their reaction. I guess we could watch other people react to the BU if we want to see people get really into it. People have to be true to the kind of content they want to make. I don't think it will take 2 years or even 1 year. The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Part 1 only has 8 songs and they've already done Yoongi's Into and Dope - they only have one MV, INU, left. Then on Part 2 (also 8 songs), and Young Forever, they've already done a lot of the songs and some videos: Nevermind live/lyrics (I think?), Save Me MV/lyrics/live, Ma City lyrics, Converse High live/lyrics. That's what I remember - maybe more? So with INU, they'll be done with at least 4 out of the 8 Part 1 songs (2 of the 3 MV's) and then on to Part 2 (8 songs) where they've also done some of the songs already. Young Forever has lots of repeats. Then with Wings, nearly all the songs are BU MV's so that will be a concentrated BU deep dive. And then You Never Walk Alone is mostly repeats but haven't they done one or two of those already, too? I'm not sure. My point is just that it's not so much. I think once on LY, maybe then wrap up the BU videos because, as I said before, it's a lot of music to get through before Jin's (which they've already reacted to without the video. Still, I remember the themes of the albums being part of the beauty of the story-telling so that would be a reason not to skip ahead. About spoilers, yes, that possibility is always there. I think if people post spoilers, we should ask them to delete their comments. That's way easier to manage on Patreon than YouTube. But it's like I said in an earlier comment - I think however they watch it, I think they will enjoy it. I think most of us here watched the BU videos all mixed up. For myself, I was watching videos without knowing there was a BU - and then at one point (without saying too much here), I was in awe of Hobi for how far he had come being so disadvantaged, lol - and then way later I figured out there was a story! I think that was true for lots of us! lol Once I found out about it, I devoured the BU. I've never watched explained videos - I studied it, as in over-obsessed studied it. I found BTS at Fake Love. So my first comeback was Epiphany. I can say for myself, 100% it was more meaningful because I had to wait, and that the album was there shortly after to support it. But that's just for me. Everyone enjoys it in different ways. You said you think Jared and Jordan have an agenda to look for comments that agree with the way they want to do it. I think if that's true that they have a way already they want to do it, then I think they should do it that way - the way they want to do it. Since they asked our opinions and I have one, I wanted to jump in and say what I thought. But I really do think they'll enjoy the BU content however they decide to do it and I'm sure we'll enjoy their reactions however they do it.

Cheryl ⁷ Lambert

Although you are entitled to an opinion, what is disrespectful is how you are voicing your concerns. If you have an issue with pricing you can direct message Jared and Jordan to discuss it with them. If you have a job, you would expect to be paid for the work that you do and the effort that you put into it. Jared and Jordan don’t just listen to a song from a single source for a few minutes and leave it at that like many reactors do. They gather information from comments from hundreds of followers, put together various video performances/lyrics, listen and provide an analysis and their perspective on what they listen to and then spend many hours editing it all together into a cohesive video for everyone to enjoy. All of the videos in the tier you subscribe to are then available for you to watch as many times as you wish. This is work, a business as well as something they love to do and want to share with us. Nothing is free from any artist. If you listen on YouTube you are exposed to ads for revenue, if not you pay for premium to avoid ads. If you purchase albums, merchandise or concert tickets, the artist is being paid for their intellectual property. You pay for access to music through a subscription to Spotify, Apple Music for ad free downloading of music so the artist is compensated. Only you can decide wether you feel that you are getting your money’s worth by subscribing to this channel. If you feel that it’s not worth it then navigate away to another source but don’t ruin the experience for the rest of us with such cheap remarks. They try to keep this a positive space for all of us to enjoy. You owe them and this community an apology for such childish remarks. Grow up!

Challenge accepted! "Dope" count: 91 Party in the grocery store! They play good music too. Regarding the mirrored dance practice...Its a visual learning tool for dancers that are cover groups or random dance play participants. If your brain learns that way it is easy to switch what was right and left when watching them perform the choreography from the front. Nothing changes when you watch them, you are correct, everything is flipped. Army chime in if you use the mirror versions for other purposes. The footwork! To execute the steps takes repeated practice of counts and weight change. There is counting from 1-2-3-4.. but in between there are "and" counts and that is where BTS lives in the chorus. Spend too much time on one foot and you are late for the next. They are dancing to the notes of the saxophone sometimes. Enjoyed it and happy that you recognize how intricate and hype those steps were. The BU... Y'all just keep an open mind. Ready to re-dive with J&J however you go about it.

Jordyn

Dope is iconic 💜

Steph

Work has been keeping me busy, but Ive been slowly catching up on content and I’m so so excited for this era!!!! The most beautiful moment in life is truly when everything started changing for bts and I can’t wait for you guys to experience it for the first time. The BU can be verrryy overwhelming and confusing tbh, so I would suggest maybe doing album reactions first. I think it’ll get a bit overwhelming if you jump into some songs from a BU lense first. This would give you guys a chance to appreciate the songs first before tying in BU concepts. I see a lot of armys have been sending all the links and information about where to start, so you’re in good hands 😁😁! Whatever you guys decide I’m sure will be great!! Thanks guys 💜💜

Fernanda

Technically, Dope was the first BTS song I heard. It was during lunch at my middle school. They played it on the speakers (im guessing there was some army who requested it lol) But unfortunately at the time I had preconceived notions about kpop and thought it was cringy (not the song but the genre itself) I had no idea about bts then but it wasn't until 2 years later that I stumbled upon a video of that same day at lunch where I could hear Dope being played in the background *sigh* if only I had given them a chance earlier :') But hey 2 years later DNA would have a chokehold on me lol As for the BU IM SO EXCITED FOR YOU GUYS TO REACT TO IT! Just have fun! its okay to not get every little detail right, I mean most ARMY didn't know what was going on either lol that's why there are explanation videos after lol

Daphne Schaffer

This was the first video I watched of BTS, the first time hearing them and I was hooked. Now I am ARMY!

Sadie

BANGTAN UNIVERSE….YYYYAAAAAYYYYY THE BU is more than songs it’s a whole shebang. I highly suggest watching all the MVs/promo videos/VCR videos in order then watching XCeleste’s 2018 AND updated 2021 BU Explanation videos. There is overlap of info but things are removed in the 2021 update video that adds additional explanation to the universe & storyline that were included in the 2018 version. One thing to remember about the BU is to look past the lyrics & pay attention to the visual storyline being told (like in I Need U).

AdibA

Same, this was my 1st too...

Rongrong

Hi J & J, I've been busy and only now able to catch up on your content after more than five months! Currently enjoying the holiday with your content :D By the way, I wanted to add my two cents about the song's release. Around the time it was released, the trend was only up to the 7-giving up generation, but now it has expanded to the 10th generation and even more! The 7-giving up generation includes giving up interpersonal relationships (yookpo, yook = 6) and hope (chilpo, chil = 7) (source wikipedia). Generally, at that time, someone who gave up on all 7 aspects is seen as having no more hope in this world and might follow suit with drastic actions (S word). RM touches on this idea and says that since he likes 'yook' (beef jerky), he will be 'yookpo,' implying he still has hope. His lyrics reflect this sentiment: 'Why do they kill us before we even try?' 'So, can I get a little bit of hope? (yeah)' I hope this helps Lastly, now I will enjoy BU again together with you guys :D Thanks.

Lauren Rodriguez

I absolutely love watching BTS react to their own MVs. Thanks J&J for another great video!
