Torchwood is an "adult" spinoff basicly of doctor who. its darker themed and really REALLY good but also gets really dark. its an amazing show and it also enhances doctor who i think. But the shows spoiler each other so they are meant to watched side by side, Torchwood starts at the end of doctor who season 2. It would be after doctor who season 2 -> torchwood season 1 -> doc 3 -> tor 2 -> doc 4 -> tor 3 -> doc special and season 5 -> tor 4 -> doc 6+ basicly alternating between doctor who and torchwood its "fine" to watch them out of order, but then you have to live with spoilers

Torchwood is definitely worth watching and has some interesting connections to Doctor Who. Florian is right about the order to watch it in. I think you'd enjoy it.

There was a running joke at the time that on Supernatural, whenever it seems like there's aliens, there's rational explanation: it's just a monster. And in Doctor Who, whenever it seems like there's a supernatural monster, there's a rational explanation: it's just aliens. “Books: best weapons in the world. Arm yourselves!” One of my favorite quotes from the 10th doctor. The Doctor freaking out because his head is too full is one of my favorite bits. His brain has 900 years of experience and knowledge. Sometimes, he can feel the pieces starting to emerge and piece themselves together, faster than he can think through the thoughts. He becomes a total spaz. Tennant most spastic of all. Since the start of classic who, it is a recurring gag to take real unexplained phenomenon and give them a whoniverse explanation. So, here, the diamond being cut down and the monarch disease. Personally, I think it's fun when they do that.

Unpopular opinion (at least here it seems) but I'm going to go ahead and not recommend Torchwood. Please don't take away time from DW. I've heard it gets better down the line but I've never been able to get past 4 episodes. If you have to "get through" a bunch of episodes (as was the advice given to me), that's not exactly ideal for an episode-by-episode watch along.

I agree (sort of). I think Torchwood is a great series and worth watching, but it has a very different vibe from the main DW show and minimal crossover, so I would not recommend adding Torchwood to your list.

David Tenant's Scottish accent is so good because he is actually Scottish. That being said, he still isn't speaking with his natural Scottish accent. He's putting on a version of the Scottish accent that he hears when people try to mimic the accent. His reasoning was that this version of the Doctor doesn't have a natural Scottish accent, so when he's faking it, he shouldn't sound too natural to the Scottish ear. Also, Oot and Aboot, is definitely Scottish, but also used more to make fun of the Scots. Canadians sound a little Scottish at times, because, well... Nova Scotia literally translates to "New Scotland" so that probably covers it lol. (PS, I also am Scottish, and have a Scottish accent, although I've lived in the US for 10 years now).

You can be forgiven for not knowing that David is Scottish. You'd perhaps be more likely to connect the dots if you were aware that David was born David McDonald and changed his name to join the actors union. Funny enough, like a number of actors, he has that in common with his father in law. Who was born Peter Moffett, and is known to most as Peter Davison. Torchwood is rough to watch at times, I won't lie to ya. There are connections at times. As a happy medium, I'll suggest a 'choice episode' selection apposed to padding the schedule. Watch the show alongside with the pattern suggested. But only react to certain ones, for a compromise and far less editing. Then, we know you have seen it, and those who appreciate it more can have reactions to certain key episode and moments. Myself, I'd say a few from series 1 and 2. All of series 3, which helps to fully appreciate a particular character. Then, I could take or leave series 4 honestly.

Oot and aboot isn't used to make fun of the Scots, the fact you said that makes me doubt very much your claim that you are Scottish. I am Scottish and never left Scotland so i know you do not know what you're talking about.

Make fun of maybe is a bit harsh, but it's often used by people as a "go-to" phrase when trying to mimic a Scottish accent (one of many phrases, just like "hoots mon"). Similar to how "g'day mate" is used for Australian, or "cwaffee" for New York. In Dundee where I'm from "oot" and "aboot" are very much valid words, and "oot and aboot" is a valid phrase in place of "out and about" *oh eh ken yiv no bin weel, it's braw tae see yi oot n aboot* And yes I'm very much from Scotland, but even if I wasn't my point is about people who aren't Scottish and the things they say to try and sound Scottish.
