In answer to your question at the beginning, those were indeed the classic Doctors from the original run, though not in order. The first one shown, though, that Clara tells he's making a big mistake, was the original Doctor, William Hartnell, the one who started it all. And the reason this episode feels so epic is because it WAS the actual season finale. It also aired mid-May! So we had to wait until November 23rd to find out just what in the Hell they meant that John Hurt was the Doctor!

Just checked, this aired in May 2013 so at the time we had to wait six months for the next episode to find out....lucky you being able to just press play next episode! :p Although it's a good point to how not knowing what comes next affects you, at the time we get the previews etc so we had an idea this episode would be a big one but obviously you wouldn't so you're like in a theme park with Cybermen then this! No wonder it was crazy for you lol But yeah, loved this episode, it's fantastic! Finding out how Clara is impossible, River! And also the great intelligence running in the background for a while to, brilliant stuff. And also don't worry even us watching it at the time had no idea about that ending with John Hurt, so we all finished this going what!? lol

yaayy!! i love this episode and the special of course so i can’t wait!! :) love your reactions and i’m glad you’re having fun watching too! in the episode after the minisode , “the *day* of the doctor” is when the credits come up on screen and you’d probably wanna look away when you see matt smiths name, they last for 22 seconds, sorry if you’ve already been reminded too much :)

In Sea 5 Ep 1 it is the ringing of the Cloister Bell that the Doctor hears and then runs out to stabilize the TARDIS with the "5 minute trip" that turns into 12 years.

I kept laughing at you saying, "this feels like a finale!" The pacing of season 7 is admittedly quite odd since it's split up to 7a/7b and has the extra special so I don't blame you for not realizing it was the finale. Seeing River always has me in tears. It was nice to get a proper goodbye since she just kind of dropped out of the story when Amy/Rory did. What a fantastic character. And while they've had fun sexy banter, I feel like this kiss was the most romantic moment they had. Oh man, RIP River. I can't wait for you to watch the 50th anniversary special!! I saw it in theaters when it originally aired (it came to theaters all over the US). I also was at comic-con that year and the marketing campaign for it was massive, the show overall was bigger at the time. I still have my 50th anniversary comic-con t-shirt I bought there. They splashed out for the 60th a few years ago as well. I can imagine myself wrinkly and gray, rocking my 100th anniversary t-shirt and eagerly watching the big centenary special haha.
