Personally I think this is the best ever episode of doctor who

SRD88

People may prefer other episodes and they may prefer other Doctor's but for me I think this episode is objectively the best written and the best performance given by an actor portraying The Doctor in the series Most people throughout the fandom see this episode largely as an analysis of grief, the idea that grief is a cycle that an individual has to go through much like The Doctor's repeated lives & that the wall of Azbantium is a literal representation of grief, that you can't get through by being clever or with short cuts but by repetition, time & pain Masterpiece

I still remember watching this the first time on air, no idea what was coming: my favourite episode.

James Miller

Truly a great story. Moffat was the best show runner of New Who.

Lee Gannon

This was a special episode for me as it is the first episode to air on my birthday (28/11/15 my fortieth.

It's not the day someone dies that's the worse, at least there's something to do, it's all the days, they remain dead... Ten years later and that still sticks with me. I've never commented on the full version and YT version before but for this episode I'll make the exception because MY WORD lol Stunning stuff. Will you be getting a mannequin Clara to stand by a chalk board for your room Emme? lmao You can put motivational quotes on there or something lol 'Now get up off you ass, and win!'

Ashley Johns

Something that is overlooked a lot is , when the Doctor finally realises what bird means it kind of unlocks his memories of it all happening. As he says in his mind to Clara as he rages about how he just wants to lose ‘I can remember Clara. you don’t understand. I can remember it all. Every time. And you’ll still be gone’

Alex

First time round he did it naked hence why there is always clothes.

i will absolutely NOT be getting a mannequin LOL they always creep me out, but the motivational quotes could be a good idea!

This episode is the perfect analogy for grief. You spin in your wheels, repeating day after day as if they're the same. Then when you hit the 'wall' it can feel like you're making no progress and it all begins again. Anger, fear, sorrow; it all comes out. Rachel directed the hell out of this episode, too. There are several shots in here of Peter that could be paintings. And dont get me started on Peter. Incredible, there arent words. Everyone showed up that day fr

You will find yourself coming back to this over and over again despite its simplicity and acknowledging it as maybe not just the single greatest episodes of Doctor Who but genuinely one of the greatest episodes of television ever aired. The idea of grief trapping you in a moment of hurt and heartache while the rest of the universe just keeps spinning is so poignant, especially as you grow older and experience more loss. Capaldi always puts on a master class but between this, The Zygon Inversion and an episode next season it’s extremely evident that he is the greatest man to ever do it. That’s not to say every other Doctor before or since isn’t great, rather it’s saying that despite how absolutely out of this world they are, Peter is just that much better. The man’s an Oscar winner for a reason and that was from directing which means he clearly understands how characters are supposed to work within a narrative. Between him and his cousin Louis Capaldi it’s genuinely not fair one family tree could produce that much greatness.

The first time I watched this I kept falling asleep (we had four kids, the youngest two were still in diapers). I thought it was kind of a nothing burger but didn't make it to the end. The next day I watched it and I couldn't believe I could have slept through it the first time. My 6-year old had been watching Who with me, but couldn't make it through this one for another year. Your reaction was fantastic.
