I'm glad you caught the last scene. Most reactors turn it off to quickly and miss that end credit skit. In reference to your speculation about why the community seems to ignore the high death rate. There is another supernatural setting in a book ( not Buffy) that hints at the evil eminations in the town influence people to ignore or forget the supernatural things that happen there. I've always felt like the Hellmouth in Sunnydale must do something similar but the only reference to it is in the 2nd episode of season 1 were Giles says people have a tendency to forget or rationalize things they don't understand.

I wasn't aware that you had studied acting! That's cool. I don't want to get too political because this isn't the place but I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that back in the 90s, people didn't think things could get as bad ever again. The cold war was over. Fukuyama wrote that history was over (because the West had "won"). Life was good. And we really thought things would at the very least stay that way. Oh how wrong were we...
