Hes not wearing pants because when they bigenerated he took half of Tennants clothing. Tennant is freebaling right now. haha

Neil Patrick Harris was excellent as the Toymaker: he was both unhinged and terrifying, and he put his superb physicality, as a performer, to great use here. I’m glad you really enjoyed these 3 Specials episodes: you really see how far the budget has come since the Christopher Eccleston series, and the start of the “New Who” era of the show. These Doctor Who Specials are also just 3 great stories, which serve as an excellent bridge, between series 13 & series 14. I know a lot of people are incredibly negative about the upcoming era of Doctor Who, but I personally enjoy most of it: there are some really great episodes coming up, that I think you’re going to love. It’s obviously not a perfect era, but it gets far too harshly criticised, in my opinion, despite it getting an awful lot right: Ncuti Garwa is clearly a talented actor, and he brings his own unique interpretation to the role, and I think he does a really good job as the 15th Doctor. People were incredibly disparaging of Jodie Whittaker’s time as the Doctor as well: but you seemed to really enjoyed her era of the show, and I think you’re probably going to enjoy much of what is to come from the show. Like I said, it’s not perfect, but it also doesn’t deserve anywhere near the amount of hate it gets: there’s at least a few episodes coming up that are as good as just about anything the show has done in the “New Who” era. Hopefully I’m not hyping it up too much, for it to be a massive let down haha. Can’t wait for the next video. xx

Sadly, Bernard Cribbins wasn't well enough to film his scenes for this episode. He passed just as the specials finished filming, but at least he got to play Wilf one last time! The Toymaker is a very old school villain. Older than the Cybermen and long before than the Master or the Sontarans. Stookie Bill was an actual dummy, Logie Baird needed something with higher contrast (and more heat resistance!) than an actual face. So, funny thing about Mel. She traveled with the Sixth and Seventh Doctors, but because of a timey wimey season arc and serious behind the scenes issues we never actually saw her first meeting with the Doctor. So the part about her losing her family is actually new info, not a reference!

Fun fact, the mini episode when Tennant was introduced as 10 with Rose has him talk about a mole on his back between his shoulder blades, him talking about loving the moles is a reference to that

In The Rings of Akhatan when 11 says, “I’ve walked in Universes where the Laws of Physics were devised by the mind of a mad man.” He’s referring to The Toymaker as he had brought The First Doctor in to his universe in order break in to our reality by beating The Doctor in a game of his choosing. The Doctor wins and he’s locked there until 14 weakens the boundaries of reality by invoking a superstition with the salt at the edge of the universe in Wild Blue Yonder.
