The Coast by PUP is a good spooky song about a spooky lake “The lake gives us life and she takes it back”

Alie Ward

Oooohoooooo! Love a lake shanty!

Alie Ward

She's a treasure, a sunken one with creepy moss and glittering jewels inside

I live near Lake Lanier and the history is tragic and sad. The scariest part is the drunk boaters these days.

Alannah Wood

Let bed the the pronouciation of lake Gambier! Sounds alot more efancy when you say it! The Rio Tinto river sounds like the queen's river in Tasmania, where it's also bright orange and is so polluted nothing lives in it at all... Would love to see live ologies show so I hope it goes well and so you can come to Aus!

Nathan Pagsisihan

I’m loving this episode! Love the part about the Edmond Fitzgerald! I really want that bumper sticker!!!!

Nathan Pagsisihan

Yes I also live near lake Lanier! It’s very sad, every year there are a few who die there.

Nathan Pagsisihan

Also I really hope Geo makes an episode about lake Lanier!

Pink lakes and pink flamingos eating brine shrimp - what are flamingos doing with all that salty food??? How is their blood pressure? Are they chronically dehydrated? Are they being studied for heart disease or other human health stuff for how they overcome this? Wading in bacteria seems like a bad idea. Are their immune systems super charged?

Manish Agarwal

Great episode! 👻💦 Q: What was the hydrologist’s favourite early Beatles song? A: I Feel Brine

Olga Kolesnikova

Omg! It's so cool you talked about lake Baikal. We used to camp there every summer when I was growing up. And I've tried the golomyanka fish, and also I've skated on the ice in the winter. Also we stayed a lot on Olkhon which is an island on Baikal, and there's a spooky lake ON THE ISLAND ON THE LAKE does Geo know about this? I actually don't know what it's actual name is because we just called it the forest lake. It's more like a pond I guess as it is small. But it's in the middle of the forest and we camped there when I was little. At night you could hear the mountain goats calling out to each other! And I had a spooky dream about going into the forest and speaking to a goat head hanging on a tree??? So anyway, lakeception!

Listened to this on my morning walk and now I suspect "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" will be my song of the day. Glad your dad liked it too, it's a classic in our family.

Wow! You and I differ on many personal opinions but I found your podcast a few months ago and I absolutely love it. I really enjoy all of your guests and the vast study of ologies I get to learn about. Fun fact: I started listening to your show because when my husband and I first started dating we had a running game of what ologies we could come up with. Called him after the first podcast I listened to with a new -ology. Thank you for your thoughtful, thorough, and humorous interviews.

Buhbrie

What a great episode! Alie, could you do cave diving?? It has got to be the most horrifying hobby ever, it's fascinating

The Other Maya

Flamingos, please - loved the episode, loved the guest - total nonsequiter and I apologize: I require an episode on Flamingos. I need to know where to go to take pictures of them in South America, I need to know why they became the mascot of house parties in the 1950s, I need to know if it's true that they migrate between South America and Africa or if that's a weird thing my brain came up with on its own. I need to know if the Romans were just flexing or if they're actually scrumptious. Babies: where the babies? Can I keep 2 or 3 as a pet like ppl keep ducks and ostriches?

Rachael Lemont

I LOVED this episode so much! I listened to it at work & had to Google every 5 minutes to see what you all were talking about. If they look at my search history they’re going to wonder what the heck I was doing, but so worth it lol

For anyone who was tantalized by the mention of bog bodies, The Ancients podcast’s episode this week is all about them!

AnnA

Been obsessed with bog bodies since I was a teen! Honestly the only form of "preservation" I'd be okay with as a corpse. Fun to think about your last meal (instant noodles) being determined by anthropologists 800 years later. Anyways thanks for the highlight reminder!! Much to queue!
