Greg

Any "secret" yeasts that might make for better fermenting beers?

Bob

When and where did hops come from in brewing. Are hops used for any other purpose?

Billy Marino

Do you see a future in gluten-reduced beer such as Stone's Delicious IPA? The enzyme seems easy enough to get from places such as White Labs, and the beer is drinkable for those with a gluten intolerance--likely not for Celiacs--and much more satisfying flavor-wise than most beers brewed without barley or wheat, yet it seems highly underused in a time when gluten-free items are increasingly being developed.

Adrienne McNicholas

Is it true that Stouts and Porter are good sources of dietary Iron. (ie is my beer healthfood?)

Kaitlyn Thomas

Why does beer have to have so many carbs?

Brittney Crisera

What ingredient is it that makes the yeast occasionally go seemingly crazy and foam up and explode during first fermentation? ...Asking for a friend. Also, do you have any tips for new Brewers or book recommendations?

Meaghan Walsh Gerard

I heard that we have found ancient civilizations had beer recipes. Do we know if that was because they couldn't prevent it (no refrigeration, etc.) or they did it on purpose? Are they any good? What's the one rare beer that you haven't tasted yet but want to?

Brian Edge

Is it true that there is a hops shortage (or an impending one)? If so, what effect will that have on the brewing industry?

Pj anderer

What is happening to a beer like Dogfish Head 120 Minute when I bury it in my yard and wait to drink it for several years?

Kristen

What does "beer" taste like before fermentation? I'm picturing grape juice before it becomes wine, but obviously beer is a much different combination of ingredients than juice. Do brewers taste the "beer" at various times during the fermentation process to get an idea of what the final product will be?

Rebecca Hall

What flavours have you tried that really just haven't worked?

Carrie Stuard

Do craft brewers maintain their own hops and yeasts strains (proprietary blends) or are they like sourdough starters that get passed around and shared among other brewers?

Mikey

Why do beers have different percentages of alcohol to them?

Colette Ayers

Hey, so I live in London...In an area with lots of craft beer shops....What defines a "craft beer" and have you ever made a beer milkshake?

Heather Crowther

Why do beers from different countries taste so different? Is it the water, the process, something else? 🇨🇦

Paul Ohainle

What is the most interesting beer that you have made? What is the worst beer that you ever tasted?

John Worster

Germany has a law called the "Reinheitsgrebot" which says that German beer can only be made with 4 ingredients, hops, water, barley, and yeast. The law is 500 years old. Is any other country as serious about its beer as the Germans are?

Stefan Titus

How do you keep your records organized? Are you a naturally organized person?

Caitlin Plate

Are Food Scientists common to find working in breweries? Or is it still overrun by a lot of engineers? Future food scientist here who would love a job at a Brewery 😂

Christa and John Trexler

So, I know I am in the minority, but I hate IPAs. Wasn’t the hops used as a sort of preservative for sailors to drink the beer safely on long voyages? Since we don’t need it for that anymore, why do we add sooooo much of it to beer still? This is probs just a taste thing

Christa and John Trexler

Also, what kind of yeast do you use to brew your beer? Do different strains give different types of beer?

Mike Melchior

Do you allow your employees the Sternewirth privilege?

Becca Bee

With the vast number of beers these days, how do I navigate them all? The bf and I were talking last night and he said there are just too many beers. So much is good that nothing is standing out anymore. How does one make choices in this oversaturated market of local breweries, microbreweries, and limited editions??

Francina Martinez

My husband keeps quoting a recent article he saw about men drinking 2 beers a day to reach the ripe old age of 90 years old. He thinks it's a great plan. Any truth or actual fact basis in this? Is it just anecdotal?

Sam

How specific are the yeast that make lambic/fruit based beers to a location?

LateNitePie

Does glasswear really make a difference in beer? (mug, bottle, can, etc.)

Carrie Weber

Lactobacillus or Brettanomyces? Favorite and why?

Topher

Does the “beer taster” job that Norm McDonald had really exist? If so, where can I sign up?
