Chatting with a wonderful radiologist tomorrow -- got any questions?

Comments

Gary Jungling

Are radiologist always afraid of becoming sterile or getting cancer?

Megan C.

Weirdest thing they have seen inside someone?

Michelle Caul

What effect does radiation have on healthy cells? How do you minimize damage on healthy cells?

Jordan S.

Really dumb question - why do certain types of ultrasounds feel so uncomfortable? Particularly abdominal and pelvic ones.

Jennifer Buz

Do you ever harness the radiation in your workplace for your own purposes (e.g. leaving your pet tarantula next to it and then coaxing it to bite you, making rocks glow, etc.)? second question: do you ever wear the lead shield just for fun (or for exercise??)?

Abobymous

What kind of fun/cool things have you scanned after hours?

Jack Kelleher

Why are we still using such old technology isn’t there something more modern that is less dangerous?

April

Is being “big boned” really a thing?

Kayla Wolfe

What’s the difference between x-rays, CT scans and MRIs?

Greg

Where are we with 3D printing and AI integration as tools for radiology today? How much improvement in medical imaging technology can we expect within the next year or two?

Carolyn Steele

Had a hip arthrogram last year, found out afterwards about Chuck Norris' wife and the gadolinium toxicity thing; is this madness or should I be concerned?

Brian Edge

Are people too worried about side effects from imaging?

Hilarie Mazur

How do radiologists learn to "read" images that just look like fuzzy blobs to the uninitiated?

Liana Moss

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen on a scan? We all hear about the weird things people stick in their orifices but what’s the weirdest or do you have a story of something more bizarre?

Craig Curry

Hi Alie, I would like to know if the radiologist has a layman's tips on how to make a little sense of an X-ray. Whenever a doctor has shown me things on them I have to take his/her word on whatever they are pointing out because it all looks the same to me. Thanks! You're the best.

Paul Ohainle

Are you behind the scenes or in front of patients to explain the good (or not so good) findings? Care to share any good news stories (or not so good stories)?

Mike Melchior

Is it true that Xrays are actual visible to the naked eye?

Al Martinez

I have a couple of questions. Explain the difference between contrast and noncontrast and which is better?

Al Martinez

Let's try this again. I have a couple of questions. What's the difference between contrast and non contrast CAT scan and which is a better tool? Also overall which is the best diagnostic tool MRI, CAT scan, sonogram or x-ray? And last but not least a personal question. I had pins put in one of my legs when I was a child they are made of surgical steel and date to 1974. If it were ever needed would I be able to have an MRI?

Eva

How do you think CRISPR/genomics/personalized medicine will or is changing the future of radiology?

Eva

How does interventional radiology work--given that the radiology machine may be "outside" of the patient, how does it "intervene"?

Lennon Chimbumu

When treating cancers radiologically, how you account for things moving due to natural body processes (like breathing) and not blast away healthy tissue?

Mark Tinsley

What made you chose radiology as a specialty? Did you know before starting med school? Where do you see imaging in 25 years? What new technology is coming or hoped for?

Mark Williams

If radiation affects DNA, what type has most likely or most significantly affected the evolution of life on earth?

Jennifer Overbye

Are dental x rays worse because radiation is shooting directly to your head? My mom told me this at some point and now every time I go to the dentist I'm sure that it's taking years off my life.

Reuben Clamzo

My wife just started using a Novacure Optune device for her GBM (glioblastoma multiforme). Are there any other new theraputic technologies you're aware of that you're hopeful for?

Becca Bee

When I have to get mammograms/ultrasounds on my chest, the entire time I'm wondering if there IS something wrong, wouldn't shooting radiation at it make it worse? Why doesn't it? Or does it? D:

Christa Avampato

I know there are so many mixed opinions about mammograms and ultrasounds for women. What is the right age to start them? If someone has certain risk factors like family history, should they start earlier than the general recommendation? Are there any new innovations in the works that might replace mammograms?

Doreen Ullom-Buchan

In the long run would playing with the Mercury from broken thermometers be worse for your Health or getting dozens of X-rays due to being a klutz?

Eric Polk

I can't wait to hear the details from the radiologist, but as an RN, I can tell you that each one offers a different perspective on the same tissues allowing for a different set of images that can help pinpoint the source of a problem. Which one is better would depend on what problem you are looking for.
