Epic History Newsletter #23 (Patreon)
Content
Dear Patrons,
Welcome to Epic History newsletter number 23! We've been hard at work on multiple projects, so here's a roundup of the latest news and updates...
Production updates
American Revolution Episode 1
This is getting its final touches and is scheduled for Patreon release this weekend! Our first episode is full of politics, protest and outright rebellion. Here's a few sneak peeks ahead of the premiere... look out for the email notification this weekend.
Rise of China Episode 2
Episode 2 of our epic history of 20th century China is coming to Patreon in just a couple of weeks. This episodes covers the tumult and conflict of the 1920s and '30s, a time of shifting alliances, the rising influence of the Chinese Communist Party, and the dominance of Chiang Kai-Shek. Thanks again to the Patreon supporters who have been providing assistance with Chinese translations and pronunciations!
World War Two
Progress continues - more slowly - on WW2. For the moment we are prioritising our other series, and it's fair to say - this one is a big beast. We're not just covering the war, on all fronts, but most of the 1930s build-up too! So some patience may be required, but rest assured, we are working very hard. A few early peeks...
ULTRA - Cracking the German codes
Newsletter readers will know that last summer, the Epic History team had a splendid trip to Bletchley Park, the British WW2 codebreaking centre (where Charles's mum worked as a translator). I am now delighted to announce that we will be making a short series about Bletchley Park, that covers Allied codebreaking, the Enigma machine and the vital role played by ULTRA intelligence in WW2. Even better, the series will be produced by James Malcolm, who created our fantastic Apollo Program series, and the 3D shots for our HMS Victory series. That means this series is going to feature stunning 3D shots and first-class art direction. I'm already struggling to tell the difference between his preview renders and the real thing...
One Cool History Thing
The world's oldest know chess pieces, spotted on a recent EH trip to the British Museum. The pieces are made of ivory and were found in Samarkand, now in Uzbekistan. They were made around 700 AD, probably in India...
Ask Me Anything
A quick reminder to all Patreon supporters that we have an 'Ask Me Anything' community chat, which is available to anyone in the 'Patron of the Arts' tier and above. There's already been dozens of questions and it's been fantastic to have a chance to speak to some of you directly. So if you have a burning question about any of our series or how we make them, make sure you get involved!
That's everything for this week. Keen-eyed observers will notice it's been four weeks since our last newsletter, rather than two - we're now going to stick to a monthly newsletter schedule. We want to ensure that we focus on creating content and aren't spamming you when there are fewer production updates to give. Of course, if there is any big news between newsletters, Patreon supporters will always be the first to know!
Thank you for your continued support - we'll be back with another newsletter in March!
