Dear Patrons,

I hope you are all safe and well during this strange and difficult time. It's not always ideal to be living through history..

Here work continues on the final episode of our Napoleonic Wars series: the French campaign of 1814, which many regard as Napoleon's finest.

In what may prove a controversial decision (!), I won't be focusing on a single battle, but will attempt to cover the whole campaign in detail at the operational level. (This is where it's easiest to see Napoleon's brilliance at work.) Hopefully finished in approx 4 weeks.

Covering the campaign in detail requires a big new campaign map - and I would like your feedback on a couple of possible styles:

Option 1 has lots of detail: forests, fields, snow...

Option 2 is much simpler, but perhaps easier to follow:

Which would you prefer to see in the new video?? I look forward to your thoughts and votes.

Thank you again for all your support. More updates soon.

Toby

I'm sure every single one of us are so thankful you're still hard at work during all this. It's sad to know this will be the last episode in the Napoleonic series - a series I have enjoyed more than any other on YouTube - but I can't wait to see what you cover next! I hope you're keeping well, and thank you so much for the work you do.

Maneuvering was a strong suit of Napoleon and it would be great to see the topographical details that informed his decisions. Keep up the good work!

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks Alex, much appreciated. You never know, we may be coming back to Napoleon for more if that's what you guys vote for!

Harry Paul

Thanks for all the great work you do proud to be a Patreon

Option 1 allows us to see what Napoleon saw. Geography is much more than roads and rivers. Either way I'm sure the final product will be stellar as always and had you not had a vote, no one would be any the wiser.

bozojazz

Definitely option 1. I was wondering what software do you use for all this? I remember someone had suggested ArcMap way back but how does it work with graphics movement and bringing in images etc. Thanks again for your superb work. Stay safe. Cheers!

Jimmy Lynch

I like option 1 on the picture, but I feel it would be easier to follow option 2 in a video. If there's too much on the map as you're watching it, it's easy to miss important details about the campaign

Janan Sutherland

Incredible series. I hope you do an entire new series on his "campaigning" in addition to Napoleon's major battles ;) If you don't ask you don't receive haha

Ron Rozen

Unpopular opinion, but I prefer the second option, much more clearer. Either way, I'm sure it will be epic as always. Thanks and stay safe!

Hope you're keeping well Toby. I wouldn't really expect a 'battle' video on this campaign as I understand it was several successive engagements. Anyway the series has been best thing on youtube ever since I first came across your channel. I look forward to its conclusion and getting to see what's on offer next. Stay safe.

I have to agree with the majority. Your site is one of the best out there. Keep up the great work!

I like the first option because it give us more details and allows us to see what Napoleon and the Coalition saw. I'm so exciting to see the next video that covers the Campaign in France (1814). Do you know when the video is going to be released?

Stuart Carver

Looking forward to it definitely option 1, we can follow it and it’s more in keeping with the rest of the series. Hope the lockdown wont affect your work. I mean I’d love endless battle videos with the quality of you others especially Vauchamps but I know it’s impractical to do that for everything. As long as I succinctly explains the campaign in the usual quality I’ll be a satisfied customer.

The Wall

I think as long as all the information (lines and what not) have enough contrast with the background, option 1 is fine

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks James! This is mostly done in After Effects and a bit of Photoshop.

I Prefer the detailed map, But both are either too complex or too simplistic for the latter. I'd say either a mix between the two or a detailed map with, well, less details? (An hybrid of both would be, Keeping the forests, rivers, and Important geographical points, but Making it more pleasant for the eye.)

Hi there! I’m new to this Patreon. I just want to say thank you for all the amazing content, and I have a request. Your original video on Waterloo is what got me interested in the channel, and looking at the difference in length and detail between the Battle of Leipzig and Waterloo videos makes me want a long form video covering the Battle of Waterloo and the aftermath. That being said, that’s only a personal request and I am ultimately just excited to see what comes next for the channel! Thank you!

EpicHistoryTV

Hi Zachary, welcome and many thanks. At the end of the current Nap series (after the next video) we'll have a vote on what's next. I'm happy to make some more Napoleonic videos if that's what people want, and a return to Waterloo could be among them.

Zachary Clawson

Awesome!! Thanks so much for the response, I’m looking forward to it.
