Thank you for all your suggestions! There were 165 posts and about as many proposed topics, and I have read them all. I've now created a shortlist for us to vote on, with a few thoughts and comments:
'More videos on Napoleon' was the most popular suggestion, whether the Egyptian, Italian or Hundred Days campaign or some other aspect. I am prepared to take these on, but I do need a bit of a breather before diving back into a major Napoleonic campaign! So I've included a Napoleonic option that I hope will appeal to many of you, and once I've had a rest from fluttering banners and small blocks of blue forming square, we can consider the early campaigns.
Punic Wars - this was a popular idea but hasn't made the short-list, largely because HistoryMarche (my frequent collaborator on the Napoleon series) is in the middle of his own excellent and in-depth series about Hannibal's campaigns. But there is a Rome option which would cover these wars in summary.
WW2 - I see this idea slightly splits the camp, but it has made the short-list. Just to say, WW2 is an area of particular expertise and interest to me, and was even the subject of my MA thesis. And though there are many WW2 videos out there already, I plan to cover it as a succinct, global narrative (like the WW1 series), that puts everything in context. Tbh I've not seen this done well elsewhere yet. So this is a topic I do hope to take on at some stage before the end of 2020.
The American Civil War got a lot of support but is not on the shortlist, but may well return in future. It narrowly lost out to another popular suggestion from American history, which was also a focus of my university studies and would be fun to revisit...
Apologies if your suggestion didn't make it, but there will be more votes in future...
Look forward to seeing what you vote for!
