Once again, many great suggestions, and some tough choices for the shortlist. Here are your four options:

1. World War Two - this will bring a truly global perspective to the largest conflict in history, in the style of the WW1 series but with improved visuals. The series will show how all the campaigns, in every theatre, ebbed and flowed over 6 years, with archive film and a global map.

2. Anglo-Saxon England - when they weren't fighting Picts, Britons or the Vikings, they were usually fighting each other! This is the story of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and 'the birth of England'.

3. Belisarius - the greatest general you've never heard of? Well, we've all heard of him because we're history addicts, but this will bring the remarkable tale of Belisarius and the Eastern Roman fightback to a wide new audience.

4. American War of Independence - Britain's own Vietnam experience? How the world's  colonial superpower was defeated by rebels fighting for their right to (Boston Tea) party. The focus of my own Senior Honours course at university and a fascinating study in how not to fight a colonial counter-insurgency campaign.

There were many other great suggestions. Both the Seven Years War and Thirty Years War got a lot of support, but on this occasion I feel, for my own creativity and sanity, that I need something that's a little more of a change-up from the Napoleonic Wars. Honourable mentions also to the English Civil War, Wars of the Roses, Crimean War and the campaigns of Marlborough. All may well appear in future polls.

Poll closes in seven days.

WW2 would be epic

Riley Johnson

As much as WW2 would be really good it’s widely covered so I think the American war of independence would be good as to my knowledge there is no good series covering it

Professor Metal Gear

I would love to see how EpicHistory handles WW2, given how much detail we got just from the later Napoleonic campaigns on this channel, but at the same time, I do enjoy learning about the relative unknowns of history, especially with the sheer amount of WW2 videos and documentaries already available.

Moulay Cherkaoui

Has to be Belisarius, one of the greatest military commanders of his age. Watching Justinian’s Restoration in depth would be one of the greatest series of all time, maybe even as good as the Napoleon series!

luc

WW2 docs are too common...

Mitchell Layman

I have to see what you do with WW2. What you did with WW1 was great, but now with updated maps and that same style for one of the greatest conflicts in history, this would come full circle.

Darko

What I don't understand is, why was my suggestion ignored. I posted a comment about The Seven Years War, got 15 likes and I don't see it in a poll. Belisarius has the most, Anglo-Saxon England wasn't even suggested and other two options have only few votes. What's the point of suggestions if they are to be ignored?

Amin Ibrahim

AWI number one! Then WW2. No idea how Belisarius is winning... There are a lot of channels that focus on the Ancients and Dark Ages eras, very few that do the gunpowder era in a great way like you do. Please keep that up!

Ethan Wortzman

Gotta go with Belisarius. While the American Revolution and WW2 are great, both have no shortage of quality documentaries out there. Other than Extra History's outstanding Justinian series, there isn't much about Belisarius available.

Preston Emborsky

Belisarius is a legend, but already has some coverage. I’d love to see EpicHistory do him, but at the same time, despite its popularity, I don’t believe the American War of Independence gets anything of decent quality. It’s definitely an over saturated topic, but it’s never been touched on properly, much like Napoléon before EpicHistory’s coverage. I also think it would give the channel more attention if he went all out on the most well known American War.

EpicHistoryTV

Sorry it didn't make the shortlist, but I did explain why in my post. I encourage suggestions, but the final decision on the shortlist is mine, for several reasons - some technical, some creative, some just about timing.

JDusk

What, no love for Anglo Saxon England? The transformation of the Culture of England from the removal of Roman soldiers from Hadrian's wall and their final departure until the time of William the Conqueror is absolutely amazing and historically dense! I would LOVE to see this series!

alex garikana

American Revolutionary War from Britain's point of view would be an interesting undertaking.

A.G

Belisarius because living in America I always hear about the War of independence and WW2. I want to see something new, and a series on Belisarius sounds interesting

Kevin Wallace

Time to learn about someone I don't know anything about.

Lluis Planas

Belisarius! And it could cover as well part of Justinià restoration. WW2 is everywhere, but you would do nice and worth to watch for sure!

Crown Prince Sebastian Johan of Ponte Corvo

Belisarius is a must, as well as the turning point in history that was Justinian's reign. From restoration to plague. One cannot understand the rapid decline for Roman power and the Muslim Expansion and destruction of Sassanid Persia without understanding the 10 year hinge of fate between 535-545.

John-Mark Mamalakis

No matter which way the poll swings, I am excited for all of your content!

Daniel Costa

Oh man, I would love to see your take on WWII and the AWI! The AWI could use a pass from someone of your quality.

Blagovest Tsvetkov

Belisarius sounds very interesting - I wasn't aware he was born in modern-day Bulgaria. Has my vote!

Neil Jonatan

Epic History is so very good at covering stories about incredible, epic individuals, such as Napoleon. I'd love to see more great conquerers covered in your videos: Cyrus, Genghis Khan. Also, great philosophers whose ideas conquered the world, like Karl Marx. Another interesting topic is great military failures, as you were so great at covering Napoleon's defeat in Russia and his overall downfall.

Gordian III

WW2 has been done to death by literally every channel (except this one of course) AWI has also been focused on by a lot of people (oversimplified etc) but Belisarius is different and needs more recognition imo.

Stefanos Mitrokostas

Anglo-Saxon England, American Revolution both sound amazing to me!!! But I've been waiting for the WW2 series from EpicHistoryTV since I discovered it 😁 Let's finally see it! :D

David Hennessy

I genuinely can't remember the last time I felt so connected to or excited about something like this little community thing going on with this channel. Looking forward to whatever gets chosen- I know we'll love it. There is no losing scenario here.

Amin Ibrahim

I have yet to see anyone do AWI properly. If I’m missing any great ones, please let me know so I can check them out!

Ronnie Lim

You should have a 5th choice - "All of the above" ^_^ I would love to see all of them, but understand the constraints, hope you'll cover them all some day.

Darko

Try Attila TW, Last Roman DLC

Darko

I don't have a problem with you choosing the next video series completely on your own. However, I feel that it is not fair to your patreons to ask for suggestions and then come up with a list entirely of your own choosing. Either don't ask for suggestions or take them into account. In any case, I do enjoy your work so keep it up.

EpicHistoryTV

Sorry you feel that way, I've tried to be completely open about the process. I did announce that WW2 and Anglo-Saxons would definitely be poll options, and that suggestions would help me to chose the other two options, but only if I felt they were achievable.

Dan Jaggers

As much as I would love to see EHTV do a WW2 series, I feel that currently there is an appetite for history that hasn't been looked at as much or in as much detail, Belisarius being one of them for sure. I'm still gonna hold out that my idea for a series on the Ottoman Empire and the Habsburg family will happen someday, and until then i'll always cast my vote towards all the polls coming forth.

Lewis C

Such a tough one. Belisarius would be fantastic though

Field Marshal

WW2 has been done so much already, like many times. Anything but that would be nice.

luc

Bélisaire is not my first choice but it's still very interesting. Can you just recap the period before it for the Byzantine Empire as an introduction because I really don't know her well? Please

Astra Solace

Toby, would you consider have a 2nd round of voting for this? Haha. Whereby the 2nd round consists of the Top 2 choices in this 1st round, then we all can get to vote again. I am not an American, but I would really want to see Epic History's take on the American War of Independence.

EpicHistoryTV

A second referendum?! I'm afraid not. But many of the topics in the poll will be covered in future, or will appear again in future polls.

EpicHistoryTV

I always aim to take a bit of time at the start of each video, to set the scene. So yes.

Astra Solace

Understood Toby. Looking forward to future polls. Also, you may consider some Viking or Nordic history option in the future: your Viking video has an insane amount of viewership, even beating your Venice / Blackbeard / Francis Drake videos despite being a newer video. This perhaps may signal Youtube's greater interest in those topics too. Which imo is essentially your path to getting even more Patreon supporters to hit that 5k goal and then 10k goal even faster! :D

EpicHistoryTV

I'm pretty sure that's just the box office appeal of the Vikings!

Preston Emborsky

I as much as any man would love to see the Seven Year's War, however, I also do not want to burn EH TV out on the age of musket. Working on other projects might even work in our favor that way. Plus, a step away from the 18th and 19th centuries might prove refreshing for us viewers as well.
